If you’re over the big hotel chains, we think you’ll like Hotel Agua Azul Beach Resort. This is like a little secret hideaway on Barú Island. The location is truly special, as it’s tucked away on a quieter stretch of the island, far from crowds and noise. Everything felt unreal when we were there. The water was crystal-clear, and the sand was soft and bright.
We spent most of our days suntanning on the private beach and dipping in the pool, both of which are gorgeous in their own way. The beach is peaceful and perfect for long, lazy swims, while the pool offers a great spot to cool off with a drink and soak in the view.
This isn’t a budget stay, but we thought it was completely worth it. The food alone made us happy. We had incredibly fresh fish, simple Caribbean meals, and coconut water that somehow tasted better than any we’ve ever had. It’s safe to say that the next time we pass through Cartagena, we’ll be making the trip back to Agua Azul.

Next, we have Hotel Caribbean Cartagena, which is just a short walk from Laguito Beach. Compared to some beachfront hotels in Cartagena Colombia, it’s a smaller, boutique-style spot, which we loved. Aside from the location, we also enjoyed the service. During our stay, the staff always greeted us like familiar faces.
With around 30 rooms to choose from, we found our place felt refreshingly boutique, especially compared to bigger chain hotels. Our room was extremely cozy and had all the essentials like air conditioning and a TV. And after a good night’s sleep, we would kick off each day with a freshly brewed coffee and Colombian-style spreads.
One of the highlights for us was the outdoor area. We’d flop into the cool pool with a view toward the sea and laugh about how perfect it was for an afternoon break between beach walks. There’s also a smaller pool for kids and a jacuzzi facing the water, which felt ridiculously indulgent with a sunset cocktail in hand.

We really loved our stay at Hotel Caribe by Faranda Grand! The hotel has this beautiful colonial charm and sits in a super convenient spot, with plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops nearby. Being right across the street from the beach was a huge plus for us, too.
This hotel is massive, and we’re not even kidding. It has several buildings spread out across lush grounds. We spent a lot of time lounging between the two pools and the large hot tubs, which are surrounded by plenty of comfortable seating. There are both indoor and outdoor dining areas, so you can switch things up depending on the mood (or the heat). The fitness setup also impressed us: two separate gyms, one focused on weights and the other mixing weights and cardio.
We stayed in the colonial building, and it quickly became our favorite part of the hotel. The complimentary juice and coffee station was such a nice addition, and our room was spotless. Our package included breakfast/brunch, and we had both local flavors and familiar international options. One unexpected highlight was the wildlife. There’s so much of it around the property, and our photos barely do it justice.

If you’re set on squeezing some golf into your Cartagena trip, Dreams Karibana is it. It’s one of the most prominent beach resorts in Cartagena, Colombia, for travelers. The course itself feels pretty exclusive. Access is limited to members, people who live in the community, and hotel guests.
The resort sits a bit outside the city, just past Estelar Manzanillo, so it’s definitely not in the middle of the action. That said, we didn’t have any problem looking for food and nightlife nearby. The upside of the location is the calm, resorty feel. Once you’re there, it really does feel like an escape.
Now, let’s talk about the amenities. This hotel boasts a gorgeous swimming pool, and we also loved our time at the spa. We lost half a day pampering ourselves with various treatments there. We were also right on the beach, which never hurts. Highly recommended!

Best All-Inclusive. We also highly recommend Estelar Playa Manzanillo, an all-inclusive option. The property is really beautiful, with two refreshing pools and a massive stretch of beach lined with plenty of chairs. We spent a lot of time just hanging out by the water, watching the sky light up at sunset.
The food, though, surprised us in a good way. It was nothing wildly fancy, but consistently good across the board. As expected with a true all-inclusive, drinks are included, along with buffet meals, snacks during the day, and the option to book dinner at a few on-site restaurants. There was nightly entertainment, and during the day, our kids had fun, low-key activities in one of the pools.
Now, this hotel is not the nearest to the city. A nice compromise here, though, is the free daily shuttle into town, which gives you a chance to explore Cartagena during the day and still retreat back to a peaceful beachfront setting. For beach lovers who want just a taste of the city, it’s a pretty great balance.

We’ve stayed at Palmarito Beach Hotel a few times, and it’s one of those places that never disappoints us. Out of all the beach clubs and small resorts on Tierra Bomba, this one has easily become our go-to, especially when we’re thinking about overall value. For what you get, it’s hard to beat anywhere else around Cartagena’s nearby islands.
One of the things we really love about Palmarito is its secluded beach. It’s noticeably more peaceful and semi-private than many other spots on Tierra Bomba. The jetty right in front keeps the water calm and gives the whole place a relaxed vibe, especially with those views across the bay toward Bocagrande. There are plenty of beach beds and chairs to spread out, a small pool for cooling off, and even a little soccer field. And the food? Always solid. Plus, their coco locos and piña coladas are honestly some of the best we’ve had anywhere in Cartagena.
While the rooms here are simple, they’re totally comfortable. They’re not flashy or luxury-level, but they’re clean, functional, and have everything a traveler needs. If you’re looking for a Tierra Bomba beach resort that delivers great bang for your peso, this place is tough to top.

Perfectly located on the quieter end of Barú, Hotel Isla del Encanto is the place to be to unplug. We stayed here for a few nights, and it ended up being one of our most memorable stays in Cartagena. The service was top-notch, and one of our favorite memories was having dinner right on the beach as the sun went down.
The rooms aren’t standalone bungalows like some ultra-exclusive resorts nearby, but instead part of a row of townhouse-style buildings with upstairs and downstairs units. That said, we thought our room was beautiful and very comfortable. We had air-conditioning, a TV, and everything else we could need. The property itself is spacious, with two excellent pools (one reserved just for overnight guests) and a wide beach lined with lounge chairs and plenty of shade.
While it worked perfectly for us as a romantic getaway, it’s also very family-friendly, with a kids’ area in the guest-only pool and a small playground. There aren’t tons of organized activities, but they can arrange boat trips for snorkeling, visits to the Oceanarium, or even a stop at the nearby aviary, which is well worth seeing. Oh, there’s also a spa here!

It made us appreciate our experience even more, as luxury here comes with a real commitment to sustainability.
Despite being a beach hotel, there was so much for us to do than just beach time, although the beach alone is reason enough to come. We loved getting a taste of local culture through hands-on activities like sombrero-making and exploring the island’s wild side on guided bike rides and underwater adventures. The spa deserves a special shoutout, too. Our treatments leaned into ayurvedic rituals and hydrotherapy, and by the end, we were basically floating.
The resort itself is sleek and modern, having opened in 2021, and it shows in all the right ways. There are 187 rooms total, and every single one looks out over the sea. Talk about a flex! That said, if you can swing it, the top-floor suites in towers 4 through 10 are next-level, with panoramic ocean views that made our jaws drop.

The Blue Apple Beach Hotel is just as unique as its name. Though the beach is public and not private, it felt completely secluded since it sits on the quieter side of Tierra Bomba, where almost no one else wanders. Based on our experience, it was never crowded. Add in a gorgeous pool, stylish beach beds, and a lush garden area, and you have everything you need and more.
What caught us by surprise was the quality of food and drinks here. Instead of the usual overly sweet beach cocktails, we found creative, well-crafted drinks. Best Value for Money. For what we paid for, Hotel Almirante sure gave us a lot. We highly recommend this place if you want to stay in Boca Grande. It’s right on the main road and literally across from the beach. Everything we needed was close by, too. From shops and malls to restaurants, we had everything. Plus, getting to the Old City took only about 15 minutes by car.
We stayed in the Junior Suite, and it was exactly our vibe. The room had a clean, modern, minimalist feel, with huge windows that flooded the space with natural light. The balcony was the highlight. It was spacious, breezy, and provided us with a beautiful sea view.

The hotel also surprised us with how much there was to do on-site. Just getting there feels like you’re slipping into a secret corner of the Caribbean, far from the buzz of the city. Everything about the setting screams escape, from the lush greenery to the water in every direction.
The bungalows are what really steal the show. Each one looks like it was designed to blur the line between indoors and outdoors, with interiors that could easily compete with other top-tier five-star beach hotels in Cartagena.
