Where to Stay in the Bahamas
For those seeking a vibrant mix of city life, historical charm, and convenient access to luxurious resorts, Nassau on New Providence Island is often the first stop. As the capital, it’s a bustling hub with colonial architecture, lively markets, and a fantastic culinary scene. The nightlife here is also unparalleled, with plenty of bars, clubs, and casinos to keep you entertained long after the sun goes down.
Just a short bridge away from Nassau lies Paradise Island. This pocket-sized island is home to some of the most famous resorts in the world, most notably Atlantis, with its massive water parks, marine habitats, and a plethora of activities for all ages. The beaches on Paradise Island, like the famed Cabbage Beach and Cove Beach, boast soft white sand and clear waters.
If your vision of the Bahamas involves untouched natural beauty, swimming with pigs, and a more serene, laid-back atmosphere, then the Exuma Islands are your dream destination. This chain of 365 cays offers breathtaking turquoise waters, pristine white-sand beaches, and a chance to truly disconnect. What to stay away from in The Bahamas?
While most tourist areas are safe, exercise caution in less-trafficked or remote parts of Nassau, especially after dark. Avoid engaging in illegal activities like drug use, as penalties are severe. Also, be wary of unlicensed jet ski operators or vendors offering suspiciously cheap excursions, as these can sometimes lead to scams or unsafe situations. Always be aware of your surroundings, secure your valuables, and follow local advice regarding safe areas and activities.
What is the prettiest place in the Bahamas?
We think Exuma Cays is the prettiest place in the Bahamas. This stunning chain of islands and cays boasts some of the most breathtaking natural beauty, characterized by crystal-clear turquoise waters, pristine white-sand beaches, and secluded coves. The famous swimming pigs of Big Major Cay, the vibrant coral reefs perfect for snorkeling and diving, and the untouched natural landscapes contribute to its reputation as a true paradise.
What is the safest Bahamas island to visit?
Eleuthera is often cited as one of the safest Bahamian islands to visit. Known for its laid-back atmosphere, charming colonial towns, and pink sand beaches, Eleuthera experiences a significantly lower crime rate compared to more populated islands like New Providence (Nassau). The local communities are welcoming and friendly, and visitors can enjoy a more relaxed and peaceful experience.
