The luxury hotels in St John US Virgin Islands are mostly subtle, and that’s exactly what we love about them. There are no extremely large resorts or over-the-top luxury on this island. What you can expect, though, are private accommodations tucked into lush hillsides, charming boutique hotels with amazing views, and unmatched exclusivity. Another reason we think splurging in St John is worth it is that much of the island is protected as national park land, which means fewer crowds and more privacy. Thatβs exactly our kind of luxury. Below, youβll find some of the top luxury hotels that truly capture that magic.

The Flamingo House
11
It only took a night for The Flamingo House to win us over. In fact, it’s one of the most comfortable luxury hotels in St John! Yes, the uphill walk from the Cruz Bay ferry might look intimidating at first, but itβs actually pretty manageable and puts you in a great central spot. Check-in was smooth, and when we got to our studio, it looked exactly like what we saw online. It was slight, airy, and with a nice private outdoor space.
One thing that stood out to us was how thoughtfully they arranged everything on the beach. We didnβt need to rent or buy anything since they had it all ready, from snorkel gear to beach chairs. When we werenβt out exploring, we found ourselves hanging around the garden gazebo in the late afternoon.
What really makes this place shine, though, is where itβs located. Being able to walk into Cruz Bay for meals or drinks without stressing about transportation made a big difference for us. Everything felt close and easy. We really had a blast staying here, and we’re sure you’ll have the same experience.

The Hills
10
Perched above Cruz Bay, The Hills is a great choice for families and big groups. One of the things we liked the most when we were there was the views. They were easily the highlight of our stay. No matter where we were, the ocean was always there to greet us. Plus, with only 22 villas on the property, the whole place felt so exclusive.
Our villa had three bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a terrace we used for meals and downtime. Some villas even come with private pools, which makes it easy to relax all day. Thereβs also a clubhouse with a restaurant, bar, and fitness center, but we mostly kept things simple and enjoyed having everything we needed in one place.
Even though it’s in a gated area, getting to Cruz Bay is quick and easy. We liked being able to head out for dinner or to the beach, then come back to somewhere quieter. The surrounding area felt safe, too, even when we were walking at night. You won’t regret spending your nights here.

Whether youβre the type to spend your days poolside, beachside, or even get in a workout at the resortβs fitness center, Gallows Point caters to every kind of traveler. And letβs not forget the chance to relax in the hot tub or snorkel right on the beach.
Dining at Gallows Point was amazing, too, with the iconic Ocean 362 offering world-class fine dining. Unicorn by the Sea
8
Perched above Fish Bay, many travelers stay at Unicorn by the Sea because of the views, and we can now tell why. Whether we were sipping tea early in the morning or winding down at sunset, the views never got old! We could also visit other gorgeous spots like Cruz Bay and some of St John’s best beaches easily. However, aside from the views, this place has so much more to offer.
This villa boasts an open-air gourmet kitchen as well as a spacious living area, so we could always enjoy the Caribbean breezes. Downstairs, we had two master suites, which open directly onto the pool deck. There’s even a separate guest cottage for those traveling with friends.
By the time night rolled around, we slowed things down completely. We were either floating in the pool, firing up the grill, or just stargazing. The calm here is hard to describe until you experience it yourself. Though luxurious, it’s not over the top and still highly comfortable. And to be honest, that’s what made Unicorn by the Sea so memorable for us.

The Saint Resort
7
Best for Spa and Relaxation. Despite being new in St John’s hotel scene, The Saint Resort has successfully made a name for itself. First opened in 2025, everything here feels fresh and calm. We also loved the subtle island influence. However, we think this adults-only resort is especially interesting for travelers who want to disconnect and unwind.
The amenities here are varied, and we naturally gravitated toward the outdoor pool area. It was such a nice place to relax and make some new friends. We also loved the hot and cold stone tubs. Need a massage? Don’t worry, as the resort also provides spa services so you can fully relax. We had the 60-minute hot stone massage, and it was divine. Finally, you can also join one of the many yoga classes by the pool. Best of all, when we were there, there was a fire dance performance!
For our two-night stay, we slept in the Francis Room. It was recently renovated with modern furniture, and every corner was spotless. The king-sized bed was comfortable, and we were able to enjoy the ocean views from the comfort of our room. Compared to the more luxurious suites, itβs not flashy, but it was surely cozy and exactly what we needed.

Estate Lindholm
6
It’s so easy to love Estate Lindholm, especially if you like the finer things! When we first saw its pictures on the internet, we knew we had to pay it a visit. We absolutely adored the charming little details the hotel offered, like fresh flowers nestled in conch shells along the pathways and the honor bar where you could grab a drink and just charge it to your room. And letβs not forget about Mason, the resident cat, we had a blast playing with.
Our room, Waterlemon, was one of the newer additions on the property, and it was spotless. The best part, though, was the covered balcony. We spent most of our spare time there, soaking in the sights of ferries and sailboats gliding across the harbor. The views were breathtaking, and thanks to the huge sliding screen door, we enjoyed a lovely breeze that kept the room nice and cool all day long.
But the real star of the trip was the location. Being so close to everything made our trip easy. In just a few minutes, we could go from snorkeling at a North Shore beach to enjoying dinner in Cruz Bay. Why settle for either hilltop tranquility or lively fun when you can have the best of both worlds?

Wharfside Village Hotel

Spend at least a night at Wharfside Vilalge Hotel, and you’ll understand why it’s named one of the top luxury hotels in St John US Virgin Islands. First, let’s talk about its location. If you want to be in the heart of Cruz Bay, this is easily the best place to be. We were off the ferry and in our room within a minute! Since the town is so walkable and the open-air taxis are parked just steps away, we didnβt miss having a car at all.
Looking for a little nightlife? Perfect! There’s the Parrot Club just a stone’s throw away. It’s a local casino with tons of fun games. It was so convenient to grab a drink, soak up the local energy, and then just wander back to the hotel in a matter of seconds. We also loved the main floor of the hotel, which has this great beach bar vibe.
As for the rooms, theyβre super clean and beautiful. We highly recommend booking a beach view room, as thereβs nothing better than hanging on the balcony at night or waking up to the water. Moreover, the daily housekeeping kept us stocked with fresh beach towels, and having a small fridge for our drinks was another huge plus. Also, a rare island luxury: they have on-demand, unlimited hot water!

Lovango Resort and Beach Club

Best Packages. When it comes to luxury, all-inclusives are often the first thing that comes to mind. If that’s the case for you, check out Lovango Resort and Beach Club. Tucked away on its own private island, this resort is as exclusive as it gets. Throughout our stay, we were busy having a tanning session on the beach, hiking scenic island trails, and working out at the open-air jungle gym.
In addition to the fantastic location, we were also impressed with the genuine service. Every staff member we met and interacted with was kind and thoughtful. Not to mention, the food was amazing, too. Think fresh-caught seafood, fresh pastries, and Caribbean flavors that keep you coming back for more.
What really surprised us, though, was the range of packages. Whether youβre traveling solo, planning a girlsβ escape, or dreaming up an intimate wedding, thereβs something for you. The solo getaway is packed with perks like daily breakfast, beach picnics, yoga sessions, and even a private island excursion. The girlsβ trip package follows a similar playbook, perfect for reconnecting in paradise. And if youβve ever fantasized about a toes-in-the-sand wedding without the jaw-dropping price tag, Lovango might be your answer.
By the way, did you know that Lovango is also listed as one of the 11 best all-inclusive hotels in the US Virgin Islands?

Sea Shore Allure
3
We loved every aspect of our stay at Sea Shore Allure. We’ve read amazing reviews about this luxury hotel, and our experience was somehow even better than we imagined. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed with a basket of snacks and a bottle of wine. And that was just the beginning. The kitchen was thoughtfully stocked with essentials, and our one-bedroom villa spoiled us with stunning ocean views.
Staying here was just so chill. We spent the week grabbing quick tips from Delbert and Lee, who were always around when we had a random question. It was also a huge plus being able to just walk into downtown Cruz Bay whenever we wanted to grab dinner or do a bit of window shopping.
Now, we have to admit that the roads to the beaches are a bit challenging. Theyβre steep, but once you see that white sand and cerulean water, you forget the drive instantly. It’s totally worth the effort. Considering everything, it was easily one of our favorite vacations yet.

Calichi at Picture Point

Best Views. We had high expectations for Calichi at Picture Point, and somehow, it still managed to exceed them. The second we arrived, the views over Coral Bay immediately stole the show. We couldn’t get enough! On top of that, the six sustainable villas are just as stunning as the photos suggest. Each of them is sleek, modern, and upscale.
Speaking of which, we could imagine ourselves not just staying, but living in the villa. It had everything we needed and more. With a full kitchen, we were able to slow things down and enjoy a cozy night in. Aside from that, we also had a private rooftop jacuzzi. We loved to soak in it while taking in the gorgeous views.
That said, the shared spaces are just as impressive. We especially loved the infinity pool, which basically melts right into the horizon. Thereβs even a putting green if youβre in the mood for a little friendly competition. We highly recommend Calichi, especially for couples or families who want both luxury and comfort.
“The views alone are enough of a reason for us to come back to Calichi!”

The Westin St John Resort Villas
1
Best Resort Amenities. Right from the start, we were able to relate to The Westin St John Resort Villas. It caters to the needs of families, large groups, or those looking for privacy by renting the entire villa just for themselves. We were glad to see that there were various accommodations for different types of travelers. There were villas and townhouses with beach views, each with its own distinct design. Some units even come with three bedrooms.
The most exciting part of our stay, though, was enjoying the resort’s private beach area. It spanned more than 1,200 feet of coastline! We loved swimming in the warm blue waters or lounging by the pool to get some rest when we weren’t outside. On days when we felt like relaxing, we took advantage of the resort’s fitness room and spa services. We also recommend Snorkels Bar & Grill to anyone who wants a good meal and drinks in the evening. This is especially true for beachside lunch and dinner options.
As far as location goes, it was perfect! Most of the must-visit spots on our itinerary were only a short drive away. We rented a car and were in the Virgin Islands National Park in about 15 minutes. Cruz Bay, with its shops and ferry access, is right nearby, too.

Where to Stay in St John, US Virgin Islands
Deciding where to stay in St John comes down to your style. First of all, we have Cruz Bay, which is the main hub of the island and where the ferry arrives. Youβve got restaurants, bars, shops, and tour operators all within walking distance. Itβs the best choice if you donβt want to rent a car or deal with steep island driving. The tradeoff is that itβs the busiest part of St John, but for many travelers, the convenience outweighs that.
On the quieter side of the island, Coral Bay feels slower and more residential. Itβs less polished than Cruz Bay, but thatβs part of the charm. Think small beach bars, local eateries, and fewer crowds. Itβs great if you want a more relaxed, off-the-beaten-path stay. But for convenience, you may want to rent a car here.
We also recommend Fish Bay or Chocolate Hole. These hillside areas sit between Cruz Bay and the quieter parts of the island, and theyβre known for stunning ocean views and private villas. They’re a great option if you want a bit of seclusion without being too far from town. Most places here are designed for relaxing, featuring amenities like think pools, terraces, and sunset views.
Which is nicer, St Thomas or St John?
We recommend St John if you’re after unspoiled beaches, nature, and a quieter vibe. However, St Thomas may be better if you want more restaurants, nightlife, and easy access to shopping and activities.
What’s the best month to go to St John?
The best time to visit St John is from December to April, when the weather is sunny, dry, and ideal for beach days. If you want fewer crowds and lower prices, May and June are great shoulder-season alternatives.
How many days do you need in St John, Virgin Islands?
Most travelers find that 3 to 5 days in St John is enough to explore the beaches, go snorkeling, and enjoy the islandβs laid-back vibe. If you want a slower pace or plan to do more hiking and boat trips, 5 to 7 days gives you a more relaxed experience.
