Hotel Metropole
11
We begin with Hotel Metropole, which is not only the tallest hotel in the town but also then highest-located hotel in all of Interlaken. This luxurious four-star hotel offered wonderful views of the iconic Jungfrau Mountain.
We had the choice of nearly 100 elegantly furnished rooms and suites, all of which came with large windows with sweeping views of the town and the Bernese Alps. Not only were they airy and spacious, but also there were options where the rooms came with balconies. In fact, our suite had a spacious balcony with alfresco seating and iconic mountain views. What’s more, they all had mod-cons like flat-screen TVs, modern bathrooms, and even seating areas.
One of the highlights of this hotel is the fabulous Top o’Met restaurant, which not only offers a unique dining experience but also offers stunning and unobstructed views of the whole town, the two lakes, and the Jungfrau Mountains. We’d love to unwind and relax at the wellness center, which had massage treatments, a steam bath, and a sauna. A state-of-the-art fitness center and another restaurant wrap up the amenities here.

Carlton-Europe Vintage Adults Hotel

If you’re looking for an adults-only stay in Interlaken, then look no further than the Carlton-Europe Vintage Adults Hotel. Not only is it just designed for adults, making it a relaxing and peaceful stay, but also the setting is such that it offers splendid views of the town and the surrounding alpine beauty.
We loved the mishmash of vintage decor and modern amenities in the hotel, which lent it a charming and unique atmosphere. Not only that, but also the rooms and suites were very spacious by Swiss standards, featuring plush beds, modern bathrooms, seating areas, antique touches like chandeliers, and large windows or balconies with amazing views. It was this eclectic, playful vibe that we’d come back to after we’d been out the entire day, exploring Interlaken.
The beautifully maintained gardens were the ideal place on the property to unwind and relax, complete with views of the mountain scenery around. What’s more, it had not one but four eating and drinking establishments. While the signature restaurant served all meals, including a stunning breakfast spread, there was also a cafe serving homemade burgers and fries. We’d sip everything from coffee to cocktails at the Chimney Bar and then enjoy nightcaps at the cozy apero- & wine bar. However, our favorite place was the outdoor swimming pool, or rather pond, complete with French boules and outdoor chess, which made it the ultimate wellness area.

Boutique Hotel Bellevue

A quiet riverside setting and yet a central location is what set Boutique Hotel Bellevue apart from all others in Interlaken. Not only were we just a few minutes from Interlaken West train station, but also most of the other sights, landmarks, restaurants, and shops in the town were close by. However, what sold us was the views that this boutique hotel offered of the river and the mountains from the balconies, which were present in all rooms!
We had the choice of 38 rooms and suites, all of which were stylishly decorated and in a variety of styles accommodating everyone from solo travelers to larger groups. Moreover, all rooms had mod-cons such as TVs, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and modern bathrooms. Of course, the balconies from where we could soak in the picture-perfect alpine scenery was the best feature of the digs.
The stylish design and intimate ambiance aside, the boutique hotel even offered us hearty Swiss breakfasts every morning. The delicious breakfast buffets included local cheeses, fruits, pastries, and fresh bread, besides great coffee and juice, of course. Also, do you have a furry, four-legged companion? They’re allowed to stay and roam everywhere in the hotel besides the breakfast room!

Gasthof Schoenegg B&B

Best B&B. Breathtaking views take on a different meaning at the Swiss chalet-style Gasthof Schoenegg B&B. Sitting just north of the town center of Interlaken in the neighborhood of Goldswil, this gorgeous B&B sat on the edge of a valley, offering unobstructed and close views of the River Aare and the Bernese Alps in the distance.
We loved the rustic-style rooms, all of which boasted spacious terraces with panoramic views. The typical Alpine-style furniture was very comfortable, especially when combined with mod-cons such as luxe bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, and the like. The wood-paneled walls and floors gave it a very rustic chalet feel, but the creature comforts made our stay very comfortable.
On arrival you will get the Interlaken Card entitling to free use of public transportation within Interlaken and the surroundings and to several discounts. You can park your car for free on site. This being a B&B, we were served delicious breakfasts every morning in the cozy, country-style restaurant with spectacular views of the river and the mountains in the distance. When the weather was nice, we’d lounge on the expansive sun deck with alfresco seating. Not only was parking available on the property, but also we received an Interlaken Card on arrival, which allowed us to use public transport within the town and the surroundings for free, along with a ton of other discounts!

Hotel Rössli

Best value for money. Travelers on a budget and yet wanting to explore Interlaken and the rest of Switzerland should consider Hotel Rössli. This cozy, family-run hotel sits in a quiet yet central location in the heart of Unterseen and yet offered magnificent views of the Jungfrau mastif. What’s more, the boat pier at Lake Thun and Interlaken West train station were a mere five-minute walk away. During summers, travelers can be closer to the starting points of countless treks, while being close to the skiing and winter fun areas in winter.
We loved the sheer choice of affordable rooms ranging from economy singles, doubles, and triples to even family rooms, some of them even with balconies. So, larger groups like ours could also enjoy a bit of space, even if we were many people.
Even though it’s a budget hotel, the hotel had many facilities. For one, it had a garden terrace, which was the perfect place to unwind after long days in the outdoors. The sunbathing area was a blessing in summer, while the cozy lounge is where we’d be since we went in winter, complete with drinks. Even though there’s no restaurant on the property, we enjoyed varied breakfast buffets everyday. Additionally, there was even a half-board arrangement, which was available on request. Rounding things up is a bus pass which was included in the room price.

Backpackers Villa Sonnenhof

Best hostel. Who would have thought that an Interlaken hostel will have amazing views of the Bernese Alps? Behold Backpackers Villa Sonnenhof, which sits across 2 sections, a 200-year-old one and a shiny newer block. However, the older block, which was home to another hostel earlier, retains original touches, like the old staircase and the original moldings. The newer wing was where the reception, the rooms, and the breakfast place lay. We had the choice of private as well as dorm rooms, which were both female-only and mixed-gender ones. The shared bathrooms were immaculate and even featured chic design elements, such as frosted glass. Moreover, all rooms, even the sloping roof ones, had plenty of natural light. If that wasn’t enough, all rooms had large lockers, plugs, and comfy beds.

However, it was outside the rooms that the real vibe of the hostel lay. The reception was an all-in-one hub; it was a place to check-in, book tours, see timetables of buses and trains, and more. The real gem, however, was the lovely, lush lawn and patio behind the hostel, which boasted some of the nicest views in the town. We could see the Bernese Alps and even Jungfrau. Our days began on a high note with breakfast that included delicious cold, continental selections, along with some great coffee. Plus, the kitchen was extremely well-equipped for us to whip up light meals. A cute roof terrace connecting the two buildings, a lovely lounge room, a kids’ room, a laundry room, a games room, and a ski room wrap up the amenities here.

Hotel Beausite

Hotel Beausite is an elegant alpine property in thw quiet, green neighborhood of Unterseen that boasted gorgeous views of the surrounding Bernese Alps. We loved the choice of traditionally styled rooms, complete with large bay windows, crisp white linen, and parquet floors. With just 50 rooms, the hotel felt neither too large nor too small, and the rooms were all decked out individually, with each having its own flair and character. The views from our third and fourth-floor corner rooms were particularly spectacular, with Jungfraujoch right in the middle!
We’ve always loved hotels with wellness centers, and the one at Beausite exudes calm and serenity, making for a much-welcome escape after a busy day on the slopes. There was even a lovely garden area, which is ideal for relaxing, especially since it boasted unmatched mountain vistas. It’s also where the smart restaurant Gastronomy sits, serving superb regional cuisine, along with an excellent wine list. Not only is it open just for us hotel guests, but also breakfast was included in the room price. If that wasn’t enough, they even serve half-board, making it ideal for days when we wanted to lie in. The best bit? The town center is a short walk away.

Grand Hotel Beau-Rivage

Lakeside staying with incredible panoramas in Interlaken are best enjoyed at the Grand Hotel Beau-Rivage, which sits right on the banks of the Aare River. Housed in a historic structure, this traditional hotel radiates classic Swiss elegance. The best bit is that it offers a gamut of spacious rooms and suites, with the best featuring stunning views of the Bernese Alps.
We had the choice of as many as 101 rooms and suites, all of which were elegantly decked out, which means that we were really spoilt for choice. We’d look forward to opening the curtains of our Deluxe King Room, which had a balcony and spectacular Alpine views. In fact, many other rooms had views of the deep-green gushing waters of the River Aare.
The amenities at this hotel blew our minds, Firstly, there was a spa, complete with a sauna and a steam room, and an indoor pool, which were perfect for unwinding after a long day of indulging in outdoor adventures. Besides that, the property even had a garden and a wonderful sun terrace, as well as a wellness center with a hairdresser, fitness room, and beauty services. Did we mention that the property had two restaurants? Yes!

Swiss Hotel Apartments Interlaken

Best aparthotel. Are you staying in Interlaken for an extended period, and still want to feast your eyes on the amazing views around? We highly recommend Swiss Hotel Apartments Interlaken, which sit right in the heart of the town. In fact, we were a stone’s throw from the Interlaken Ost Train Station, as well as the rest of the town center. So, the location couldn’t be more perfect. However, what impressed us the most was that all apartments here came with balconies with views of the Bernese Alps, some of them gorgeously uninterrupted ones.
“The convenience and space of modern apartments with views of the Bernese Alps? What could be better?”
WOW Travel
Choose from spacious one/two/three-bedroom brand-new air-conditioned apartments, all of which feature living rooms, fully equipped kitchens, and sleek bathrooms with walk-in Italian showers. Not only did every apartment have its very own laundry room, but they all came with free W-fi, cable TVs, under-floor heating, and Molton Brown bathroom products.
Just because it’s an aparthotel didn’t mean that it didn’t have any amenities. For one, the apartment had underground secure parking with direct access to the lifts. What’s more, we enjoyed ski-to-door access, along with ski storage space and even a ski pass sales point with the 24/7 concierge. Plus, they even offered paid airport shuttle requests to Geneva and Zürich airports.

Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa
2
Best Jungfrau views. The Bernese Alps in Switzerland has two famous 4000ers — mountain peaks at least 4,000 m (~13,123 ft) above sea level — the Jungfrau and the Mönch. You can see the former — and the more popular one — right from your perch at Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa. This 19th-century Interlaken Grande dame has a mile-long list of esteemed former guests and has squarely kept pace with the times. Its selling point is the breathtaking views of the snow-capped Jungfrau summit from everywhere on the property. We loved the elegant rooms and suites, all of which were decked out in classic rustic-chic Alpine style with contemporary touches.
Every inch of this hotel is designed keeping comfort in mind and exudes luxury. The zenith of these indulgent amenities and touches are the exceptional spa facilities in the form of Spa Nescens. Not only does the hotel have a large indoor pool, but also a steam room, a sauna, and a fitness center. The spa is joined by a hair salon, massage therapy experiences, and even a dermatology clinic. In fact, there’s even an impressive health club with many pools and an indoor tennis court. Add three fantastic restaurants and lounges to that, as well as its location on Interlaken’s lakefront, and it’s what makes the Victoria hotel the best staying experience in the town.

Hotel Interlaken

Most historic. Sitting at the top of this list is what is one of the world’s oldest hotels, Hotel Interlaken. Built in 1323, it’s the oldest hotel in Interlaken and Switzerland, even, and is the very definition of timeless elegance. In fact, it’s lived former lives as a cloister, a tavern, and even a hospital, with the structure finally becoming a hotel in the 15th century and even receiving its own coat of arms. However, what sold us were the amazing views from the hotel: we could see the gorgeous, lush Japanese gardens and lawns, the Church, and the stunning Swiss Alps in the background.
This family-run hotel has everything going for it. For one, you can still see the original touches from its former lifetimes in the form of original décor and walls. What’s more, we had the choice of 55 chalet-chic rooms and suites, all of which were spacious and boasted equally stunning views. The traditional Swiss furniture paid homage to the building’s historic past.
Every morning, we’d wake up to delicious breakfast buffet spreads at the on-site restaurant Taverne. They even serve all other meals, including cocktails and high tea. Besides the modern Swiss cuisine, we also had a large selection of wines to look forward to. Did we mention that the property is a mere five-minute walk from the Eastern Train Station? Yep.

Where to Stay in Interlaken?
Interlaken might be a small town as compared to major world cities, but it’s still a Swiss mountain town, so it will feel large! That means that you need to decide where you want to stay, depending on what you want to do. If you want to be in the heart of the action, then Central Interlaken is the best place to stay. This neighborhood, which is the main town, is buzzing with activity hubs, shops, restaurants, and pubs. Moreover, it’s also where both of the town’s train stations lie, which are ideal for day trips into the Jungfrau region. Plus, it’s also great for catching buses to other Swiss towns and even hopping on a boat cruise, such as this amazing private sightseeing boat trip on Lake Thun, Interlaken.
Staying in Matten and Unterseen allowed us to stay just outside the bustle of the main town. So, they’re more authentic and quieter, yet we were within a stone’s throw of everything amazing in the town. While Matten has a more residential, meadow-like vibe with open green spaces, Unterseen has a wonderfully historic old-town feel, with traditional Swiss character and cobblestoned streets.
Finally, if the main aim is to explore the mountains, then Interlaken Ost is ideal. It’s where most excursions and trains Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, and Jungfraujoch depart from, making it the perfect base for alpine adventures. It’s also slightly quieter, making it a calmer setting at the end of the day. It might be a bit farther from the main nightlife and restaurant scene, but the views and accessing those very views is very convenient.
Which is the highest hotel in Interlaken?
Hotel Metropole is the highest place to stay in Interlaken and the town’s tallest building, offering the best panoramas of the surrounding lakes and Jungfrau. However, Harder Kulm is at a higher vantage point for views, although it isn’t a hotel.
Which place of stay in Interlaken offers views of Jungfrau?
Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa offers the best views of the Jungfrau Mountain due to its privileged location. Other hotels such as Hotel Alphorn and Hotel Metropole also provide Jungfrau views from specific places on the property, but you can spy the mountains from everywhere in Victoria Jungfrau.
Which is the best budget stay promising great views in Interlaken?
Your best bets are Hotels Beausite, Rossli, and Chalet Hostel@Backpackers Villa Interlaken for the best combination of mountain panoramas and affordability.
