Hidden right in the center of Kalamata, Garden City Resort is a conveniently located hotel. We loved how we could wander out to shops, cafes, or the beach within minutes. But we didn’t have to always venture out. We loved the peaceful inner courtyard, filled with lush plants and the soft sound of water by the pool.

We highly recommend booking the Superior Junior Suite. It had its own entrance, a bright living room, and a separate bedroom, giving us tons of space. The terrace overlooked the pool, and we ended up spending most evenings there with a glass of wine. Everything, from the soundproof walls to the soft linens, made it easy to unwind.

We also had fun dining at Saffron Restaurant. The atmosphere was warm and elegant, the service genuinely kind, and the food? Absolutely divine. Each dish had that “wow” moment. And once we were done dining, we used the hotel’s bikes to explore the town! Don’t worry, it’s complimentary.

CENTRO Suites

CENTRO Suites is one of the newest hotels in Kalamata Greece, but don’t underestimate it despite its age! We arrived at the hotel by walking down a cute pedestrian street since cars can’t go right up to the entrance. It’s located right in the middle of the city, on the main square, which makes it super easy to get around on foot. There are tons of cafes and restaurants just steps away, serving everything from coffee and snacks to full meals. We did have private parking for the car, which was really convenient.

We stayed in studio B6 on the second floor, and it honestly couldn’t have been better. The place is brand new, really clean, and nicely taken care of. It had everything we needed: a comfy bed, a kitchen, a great shower, and a nice view of the square. And the space? Massive!

Finally, thanks to the convenient location, you can easily take a full-day trip to Pylos, Methoni, Finikounda, and Koroni. While it might not be the fanciest hotel, the spacious studios and hard-to-beat location make it a stellar option for travelers.

Best Boutique. You’ll 100% love the IRA – ΗΡΑ Hotel. One of the best things about this boutique hotel is the staff. We had accidentally booked the wrong dates, but instead of making it a hassle, they simply smiled, fixed our reservation, and didn’t charge us a thing. That kind of kindness really set the tone for the rest of our stay.

The hotel is tucked right in the heart of Kalamata, just steps away from cozy cafes, hip restaurants, and the city’s lively vibe. We walked everywhere and never had to worry about parking since the hotel offers private spaces. When we needed a break from exploring, we took full advantage of the hotel’s spa. To top it all off, they even surprised us with a small gift that added a personal touch to our visit.

We stayed in the Junior Suite, and it was everything we hoped for. The central air conditioning was a total win. No weak little units that barely cool the room! We also really appreciated how the housekeeping team kept everything pristine, with fresh water bottles waiting for us each day.

Grand Hotel Kalamata sits right on the waterfront, so our mornings usually started with a slow stroll along the harbor and a coffee stop by the sea. We loved how easy it was to explore the nearby restaurants and shops, then hop in the car (there’s parking right behind the hotel) for day trips.

FYI, this hotel stands on the site of the historic Hotel America from 1929, but everything inside is nothing short of modern. Think smooth marble, soft tones, and gorgeous furniture. With only a handful of rooms and suites, it feels intimate and personal. We especially loved how the staff seemed to anticipate what we needed before we even asked.

After spending a lazy hour at the spa, we would head up to the rooftop bar just in time for sunset. Dinner downstairs was also an experience on its own. The Michelin-starred chef put creative twists on Greek classics, and each dish was as beautiful as it was delicious.

Elite City Resort

Best for Families. For traveling families, we highly recommend the Elite City Resort. Right between the calm Messinian Bay and the dramatic slopes of Mount Taygetos, it’s both coastal and mountainous at once. Aside from that, we were only minutes away from the sea. Sounds fun, right?

We brought our kids along, so we went with the obvious choice: the Family Maisonette with Garden View. This mezzanine-level room was big enough for all of us to spread out, but still cozy and calm. Better yet, our terrace was bigger than we expected. And thanks to the bathtub in the spotless bathroom, our bedtime routines were easy.

Our stay at Elite Hotel in Kalamata Greece revolved around the pool and food, which is the best combination. The huge pool was where time disappeared; we would float, read, and sip something cold until the sun started to dip. Dinner at Ef Zin Restaurant was also always a treat. The local ingredients made every dish taste 10 times better. And while we were enjoying our drinks, our kids were having fun in the play area.

Messinian Icon Hotel & Suites

Just 10 minutes outside Kalamata, you’ll find Messinian Icon Hotel & Suites. The hotel sits on a mountainside, looking straight out toward the sea. Although we were able to see the view from every corner of the hotel, we were never bored with it. The hotel is close enough to town for quick trips.

There were three of us, so we booked the Family Room. It had a terrace that made us want to stay outside all day. Some rooms even open right onto the pool. We were honestly tempted to “accidentally” book one! Not to mention, waking up to the sea every morning was pure magic.

After waking up, we would spend our morning in the pool and end our day at the cocktail bar or the Sobremesa restaurant. There’s also a wellness center, a gym for the ambitious, and even a cheerful kids’ room that makes it perfect for families.

Pharae Palace

It’s really hard to pick a better spot than Pharae Palace. It’s one of those rare places that perfectly balances city buzz with seaside calm. Step out the front door and you’re right in the heart of the action; cross the street, and your toes are in the sand. For travelers like us who want easy access to both espresso bars and ocean breezes, this place nails it.

Here, the rooms are all about minimalist elegance. However, nothing tops the rooftop. Nothing screams relaxation like taking a dip in the rooftop pool. It’s the kind of moment you can’t capture properly on camera (though, of course, we tried). On top of that, the hotel also boasts a small but well-equipped gym and a bar that knows how to mix a proper local cocktail.

Let’s talk about the food. Breakfast here isn’t your standard buffet. We’re talking warm, flaky spanakopita, fresh local cheeses, and addictive honey. We made more than one trip back to the counter, no shame. Dinner at the rooftop restaurant, Horizon, was another highlight. Our tip: don’t call it a day before visiting the bar that knows the secrets of how to mix a proper local cocktail.

Belvedere Hotel

We recently spent a few nights at the Belvedere Hotel in Messinia, and it gave us one of the most memorable Greek getaways. It’s tucked in a quiet spot yet close enough to all the good stuff. Within minutes, we were able to visit the nearby beaches and sip a drink at one of the seaside bars. Need a change of scenery? Kalamata town is just a quick 2.5-mile drive away.

Back at the hotel, we spent most of our time either by the outdoor pool or at one of the two bars. What’s a vacation without a pre-dinner cocktail? The poolside bar was our go-to during the day, serving up refreshing drinks with a view, while the lounge bar had a more sophisticated vibe in the evening. We also enjoyed our dinner at the Belvedere restaurant. Every dish was beautifully plated, and that uninterrupted sea view took our breath away.

We were completely in love with our Executive Suite. The wooden floors and modern furnishings gave it a cozy feel, and having a private balcony to catch the sunset made it even better. We appreciated the little luxuries too, like the signature bath products, fluffy robes and slippers, and even a mini-bar that was dangerously well-stocked.

Grecotel Filoxenia

Best Beachfront. We had heard a lot of good things about Grecotel Filoxenia, but nothing compares to the actual experience. The location alone is amazing, as it’s between the Taygetos mountains and the Messinian Bay. The vibe here is relaxed but still feels upscale, and we could instantly tell the hotel puts real thought into keeping that local Greek charm. From the minute we arrived, everything felt easy. Friendly check-in, clean rooms, stunning views, you name it.

We chose the Garden Room, and it was hands-down the best choice for us as we were surrounded by the views of the greenery. The pool area was also our favorite spot. It winds through olive trees, and there are always plenty of loungers open. We spent a lot of time between the private beach and the pool, just relaxing. Feel free to bring your kids along, as there’s a kids’ club as well.

Food-wise, the hotel really shines. The main restaurant, Olive, became our go-to every night. The dishes were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully done. The octopus with fava bean purée was to die for. And after we filled our tummies, we would usually enjoy the live music with a drink by the sea.

We stayed at Elysian Luxury Hotel and Spa for just one night before an early flight, and it was perfect. The hotel is only a 10-minute taxi ride from the airport, but it’s so peaceful you’d never guess how close you are. The best part? It’s right across from the beach. Once we were done dropping our luggage, we immediately kicked off our shoes and walked along the shore.

We badly needed a good night’s sleep, so we decided to book the Junior Suite. It had its own private entrance, a big terrace with garden views, and even a pool with a view. Thank God we had packed swimsuits. Inside, everything was spotless and quiet. Think soundproof walls, crisp air conditioning, and a comfy bed.

The rest of the hotel is just as lovely. There are three pools — indoor, outdoor, and one for kids — plus a spa and gym for those who want to have a workout. We grabbed coffee at the open-air café the next morning and watched the first flights glide over the coast. For a quick airport stopover, Elysian turned out to be a small slice of calm we didn’t know we needed.

Horizon Blu Boutique Hotel

Best Suite. Perfectly set along Kalamata’s lively waterfront promenade, Horizon Blu Boutique Hotel has the best of both worlds. We had peaceful sea views on one side and easy access to the town’s buzzing cafés and shops on the other. Needless to say, we spent most of our mornings strolling the promenade, watching locals start their day against the backdrop of the Messinian Gulf.

We wanted the best, so we decided to go with the Executive Suite. Guess what? It came with a private pool! The cool water was a refreshing treat under the Greek sun. What’s more, every room in the hotel has its own veranda, so even if you don’t splurge on a suite, you’re guaranteed a slice of that stunning sea view.

Food-wise, Horizon Blu impressed us. The executive chef is clearly passionate about quality, as every meal felt like a carefully crafted experience. Breakfast was also a highlight, especially with the fresh juices and smoothies. We also loved sipping cocktails at the pool bar.
