Set in Ghent, 1898 The Post is housed in the city’s old post office. As you can see from the picture below, the building is nothing short of grand and dramatic, with gothic details that make you admire it. And thanks to its central location, we were able to basically walk to wherever we wanted. Since we visited during the holidays, the Christmas market was literally just outside.
Inside, The Kitchen is one of our favorite spots. It has the cozy charm, complete with an open fireplace and big windows looking out over the city. Breakfast was delicious and generous, but it was the homemade pastries in the afternoon that impressed us the most. And when evening rolled around, we couldn’t resist heading to The Cobbler. The bartenders’ mixed cocktails were to die for.
The rooms here are everything you want in a boutique hotel: intimate, elegant, and just a little romantic. With antique furniture, high ceilings, and sloped rooftops, each space feels unique, but they haven’t forgotten modern comforts. Our king-sized bed was so good we struggled to get up in the morning.

Chateau de Wallerand

Just like many other castle hotels in Belgium, Chateau de Wallerand has been beautifully restored, offering both historic charm and modern amenities. The location is exceptionally tranquil, and the surrounding area is perfect for a run or cycling along the river.
We booked one of the elegant suites, and it was so well thought out that we couldn’t think of a single thing we’d change. From the high ceilings to the plush bed, every little detail felt perfectly executed. Our bathroom, stocked with Diptyque products, made even the simplest shower feel like a spa ritual. Everything was spotless and so thoughtfully curated.
One of the highlights of our stay was spending a lazy afternoon in the spa. Between the hammam, the sauna, and a quick dip in the pool, we left feeling completely refreshed. And then, as if that wasn’t enough, the evening brought an unforgettable dinner at the château’s gastronomic restaurant. Each course was a treat!

Château de Vignée

Best Dining. Château de Vignée is a small castle hotel by the river. From our room, we could see the water winding through the trees, and stepping out onto the terrace in the morning with coffee in hand was pure peace. We also loved that there were walking trails starting right outside, from a quick 3 km loop to a longer 13 km hike, which made exploring the green countryside effortless.
In the mood for some self-pampering? Head to the spa center! We really loved floating in the small indoor pool while looking out onto the gardens. The sauna overlooking the river is also worth visiting, as it offers another level of calm. Best of all, our dog got to enjoy almost every bit of the trip with us. He padded around the hotel like he owned the place, only missing out on the spa and the Michelin-starred dining room (understandably).
But nothing topped the dinner at Ardenne. Every dish surprised us! Just when we thought the chef had gone with a “safe” classic, he threw in a twist that completely blew us away. It was bold but never gimmicky. Moreover, the sommelier turned the wine pairings into a story, weaving in geography, seasons, and science in a way that somehow made us learn a lot.

Domaine de Ronchinne – Château et Ecuries

Best for Families. Domaine de Ronchinne, just outside the postcard-worthy village of Crupet, is a secret hideaway for families. The estate stretches over a huge 42-hectare park, but instead of feeling overwhelming, it gave us a sense of calm. Within minutes, we were already plotting how to spend the weekend without ever leaving the grounds.
Days here were far from boring. We cycled under tall trees, played a round of mini golf that got far too competitive, and watched kids dart between playgrounds with endless energy. When the weather turned, we ducked inside to the playroom for table football and ping-pong tournaments that kept us laughing for hours. Later, we curled up in the lounge, drinks in hand, swapping board games until the sun dipped.
The best surprise, though, was the variety of places to stay. The château had that timeless grandeur, the stables were full of rustic charm, and then there were the more playful options: a treehouse hidden in the woods or a sleek little loft cube with floor-to-ceiling views.

Le Château de Mirwart

Mirward has a certain enchanting charm to it, and right in the middle stands Le Château de Mirwart. The castle looked every bit as magical as we’d hoped, but with the bonus of modern comforts. We loved that we could park easily, wander through the garden, and then settle on the terrace with a glass of wine.
Our room carried that same mix of charm and convenience. We had a desk to jot down travel notes, a coffee machine for slow mornings, and plenty of toiletries. It was obvious they had thought of everything. We got lucky with a balcony, which turned out to be our favorite spot. Sitting out there with coffee, watching the morning light stretch across the trees, was a quiet luxury.
And then there’s the location. Surrounded by trails and rolling countryside, it was basically an invitation to get outside. We rented bikes from the château and pedaled through forests and winding paths. Whether we were hiking, cycling, or just lounging back at the terrace, our time here was nothing short of enjoyable.

Manoir de Lébioles

There are so many reasons why we recommend Manoir de Lébioles. Nicknamed the “small Versailles of the Ardennes,” the château has plenty of grandeur, but what we loved most was how inviting it felt. It wasn’t over the top, but we were still spoiled with all of its amenities.
The spa quickly became our favorite spot. We tried treatments tailored just for us (and yes, the duo cabin is as wonderful as it sounds). Afterward, we lingered in the sauna, then curled up by the fireplace in the lounge. The restaurant was another standout. Chef Loïc Jambon crafted dishes that were both elegant and comforting, showcasing local flavors with a worldly twist.
While all of the suites on-site are great, we were biased towards ours, the Manoriale Suite. It wasn’t only spacious but also romantic, with pops of color that gave it character. Every morning, we would wake up to views of the rolling Ardennes. We were so sad to leave the hotel!

Kasteel Duras

We stayed at Kasteel Duras on our trip to Sint-Truiden, and we’re glad we decided to. The castle was built in the 19th century by Baron Jean Joseph Van der Noot and his wife, and it’s only a few minutes from the city, but far enough away to feel completely peaceful. The owner greeted us so warmly, setting the tone for our stay.
The castle grounds are beautiful, with a huge garden that practically begged us to take a slow walk before settling in. Our room had just the right mix of space and old-world charm, with furniture that looked like it belonged there for centuries. We were lucky enough to have a balcony too, which overlooked the gardens.
What really made the stay perfect was how well-located it was for exploring. From Duras, we easily drove to Leuven and even crossed into the Netherlands to visit Maastricht. But the highlight nearby was the Doorkijkkerk, Belgium’s famous “see-through chapel.”

Up next is Kasteel van Ordingen, a castle that rises out of perfectly kept gardens. The whole place feels calm and tucked away, even though Hasselt is just 20 minutes down the road. Pulling into the free private parking right on the property made things so easy, and we were immediately welcomed by the grand lobby.
We booked the Luxury Room. It was elegant but cozy, with crisp linens, a big comfy bed, and little touches like a coffee machine. Despite being a castle hotel, we also had all the modern conveniences. Even the towels were ridiculously plush and soft.
Breakfast was also a highlight. Some mornings we chose the buffet, other days we treated ourselves to à la carte plates. In our spare time, we would sip coffee on the terrace, enjoy the lounge, and indulge at the castle’s restaurant. We never ran out of little moments to savor.

Château de la Chapelle

There are so many charming castles to stay in Belgium, and Château de la Chapelle is certainly one of them. The setting was so peaceful, with rolling green countryside all around, and the castle itself managed to feel both grand and welcoming. Inside, it was such a fun mix! Classic château charm blended with modern touches and little quirky details that piqued our interest.
It was the four of us, so we stayed in the Family Room. It had plenty of space, warm parquet floors, and a private entrance. The best part, though, was the pool with a view. Nothing compared to swimming while gazing out at the countryside.
The food? Just as impressive! Dinner was an alfresco six-course feast that we’re still talking about. The château also had so many ways to relax. There’s a pool, hot tubs, a sauna, and a tennis court. But the standout moment was when we asked for a birthday cake. The chef went above and beyond, creating the freshest, most delicious cake we’ve ever tasted.

Martin’s Château Du Lac

Most Tranquil. Martin’s Château Du Lac truly blew our minds away. First, let’s talk about its hard-to-beat location. The century-old chateau sits gracefully between Genval Lake and a beautiful park. That alone is already a win. Not only that, the hotel’s surrounding area is great for morning walks. You can rent a bike from the hotel to explore the city, and if that’s not enough, know that Brussels and Leuven are both just a half-hour drive away.
All of the accommodations here are fantastic, but we figured the King Room was the perfect one for us. Its biggest selling point? That gorgeous lake view! The room was also spacious, with thoughtful stuff like bathrobes, slippers, and a cozy little seating area.
On-site, the hotel had more to offer than we could fit into one stay. There’s a fitness center and tennis courts for the sporty types, but we leaned more towards the indulgent side of things. Yep, we’re talking about the spa and sauna. Treatments like massages and facials are available if you’re in the mood to splurge a little. Food-wise, the hotel really shines. We’re sure you’ll enjoy the delectable breakfast at Genval.Les.Bains that overlooks the lake. And for dinner, feel free to alternate between the lounge’s modern gourmet dining and the cozy Kingfisher bar for a casual drink.

Best Location. Want to stay at the best castle hotel Belgium has to offer while still being near the city? You’ll definitely love Le Chateau de Namur. The city is just right down the hill, and in just 10 minutes, we could reach Saint Aubin’s Cathedral, check out the Belfry, or people-watch in the theater square.
Inside, this castle is just as charming. Our Executive Double Room had everything we needed: a comfy bed, a minibar for late-night snacks, and a bathroom stocked with everything that makes travel easier. At night, we couldn’t resist dinner at L’Ermitage, the hotel’s on-site restaurant that offers both set menus and à la carte options. The food screamed luxury, and enjoying a glass of wine on the terrace afterward was the cherry on top.
Furthermore, we never ran out of things to do during our stay. We played a little tennis, strolled around the gardens, sat on the terrace to enjoy our drink, and worked out in the state-of-the-art fitness center. It’s easily a 10-out-of-10 castle hotel!
