Where to Stay in Ljubljana, Slovenia
With a rich history, a vibrant cultural scene, and a progressive culinary scene, Ljubljana is one of the most underrated cities in Europe. Despite its status as the capital city of Slovenia, the city is quite compact and easy to navigate. Most of the best hotels in Ljubljana, Slovenia, are concentrated in Old Town, a crowded quarter with cobblestone streets, winding alleyways, and captivating restaurants. It’s also home to Preseren Square, the city’s major meeting point, which is also featured on our list of the top things to do in Ljubljana.
For those traveling on a shoestring, there are several affordable alternatives for the best hotels in Ljubljana in the Trnovo district. Located in the south of the downtown area, this quarter is known as one of the trendiest. When we were here, we saw plenty of students and young adults in the area. There’s a lively Trnfest festival every August. While at the KUD France Presern atrium, you can enjoy music performances and theater shows every afternoon.
But if you think Trnovo isn’t hip enough, make your way north toward Metelkova. We were surprised by the streets lined with graffiti depicting Slovenian history, culture, and politics. For exciting performances every afternoon, go straight to Metelkova Mesto. Looking for a more peaceful atmosphere? Head to the west side and unwind at Tabor Park. If you want, you can also hang out with the locals in one of the exciting shops and restaurants around!
You may also want to consider looking for hotels in the Kozese area. This district is often a favorite among tourists who crave a city lifestyle with natural surroundings. One of the popular spots here’s the Kozeze Pond, a public space with gorgeous walking trails. For those who prefer more thrilling activities, try an exciting morning hike at Roznik Hill.
