Say hello to Hotel Prinz-Luitpold-Bad, one of our favorite hotels in the Bavarian Alps. The building, with its old-world charm dating back to 1864, sits cradled by the mountains, and the view from our balcony made us stop in our tracks. Every morning, we would throw open the curtains to endless peaks and fresh alpine air. The location couldn’t have been better either, with Neuschwanstein Castle and Lake Constance just a scenic one-hour drive away.
If you consider yourself a fitness enthusiast, you’ll love the on-site wellness area. After long walks, we would soak in the sulfur water pool, which was both calming and restorative. The natural pond was gorgeous. And since it’s fed by fresh spring water, it was freezing, but in a good way. It was impossible not to relax when you’re here.
Our Standard Double Room was just right. It was simple, elegant, and super comfortable. We had a little seating area and a balcony where we would end our days, watching the sun disappear behind the peaks. Furthermore, the thoughtful details like bathrobes, toiletries, and a hairdryer ready to go made our stay so easy.

Located high above Nesselwang, BöckLodges is a mountain heaven. At over 1,500 meters, the view alone had us grinning: endless peaks and a kind of silence that only the Alps can offer. The best part? Getting up there was a breeze thanks to the free cable car ride, which already made the trip feel like an adventure before we’d even checked in.
The lodges themselves are beautifully designed, blending cozy alpine charm with modern comfort. Each one comes with a fireplace, a private sauna, and a balcony, the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine. Each morning, our hosts delivered a breakfast basket right to the door, packed with fresh goodies. We stayed in one of the larger lodges, spread over two floors, which gave us plenty of room to sprawl out.
When it came to meals, the Panorama Restaurant took excellent care of us. Lunch was always easy to enjoy on the spot, but dinners required a bit of planning ahead since orders needed to be placed before the kitchen closed. Still, by 6 PM sharp, warm plates would arrive right at our lodge. Nothing beats having dinner with an alpine sunset in the background.

We arrived at Das Freiberg Romantikhotel ready for a few days of fresh air and mountain views, and the location didn’t disappoint at all. Nestled in the Allgäu Alps, the hotel made it so easy to get outdoors. Whether it was a short walk to the Nebelhorn Cable Car or taking advantage of the free cable car rides included in our stay, everything was effortless.
Meanwhile, the on-site wellness area quickly became our favorite. Slipping into the warm outdoor pool with mountains rising in the background felt like pure luxury. We rotated between the saunas and even tried the steam and infrared baths, which left us feeling like new. What about the food? We alternated between fine dining at Maxi Genussreich and the more modern, relaxed vibe at Fetzwerk.
If you want to stay here, we recommend booking one of the studios. It was spacious yet snug, with a little kitchenette for late-night tea and a balcony where we spent most mornings. Moreover, the soundproofing made it wonderfully quiet. It was exactly what we expected from a four-star stay.

Best for Wellness. As one of the best hotels in the Bavarian Alps, Allgäu Sonne was everything we hoped for in a mountain escape, and more. While the views of the Alps instantly had us hooked, it was the wellness amenities that stood out. We’re talking about two sparkling indoor pools, an outdoor pool that’s perfect in summer, and a panoramic sauna.
Staying active here is almost too easy, and honestly, a lot of fun. We joined a couple of the daily sports classes (up to eight offered each day!) and even tagged along on one of the guided hikes. The panoramic fitness area itself is huge and surprisingly motivating, with big windows framing the peaks. We also loved those little details, like having water stations, juice, and tea always available. Allgäu Sonne is truly made for wellness enthusiasts!
Food was another highlight of our stay. From a five-course gourmet menu to themed buffets and even a gala dinner on Sunday, each evening felt like a celebration. Our personal favorite? Enjoying dinner outside on the terrace in the summer air, followed by live music and a little dancing in the Stießbergstüble.

Best for Families. Hotel Franks might be exactly the kind of place you’ve been craving. The Frank family has clearly perfected the art of mountain escapes. It’s part alpine lodge, part modern hideaway, and we’re sure your family will love it, too. There’s this cozy, old-world charm running through the place, but it never feels stuck in the past.
All of the rooms on the property nail that spot between rustic and chic, with plenty of natural wood and soft textures. However, what made the difference was the staff. The second we arrived, we were greeted like old friends. Everyone was genuinely kind, happy to share local tips, and somehow always around when we needed them.
And then, of course, there’s the wellness side, which is basically a way of life here. The spa is huge, complete with saunas and pools. Step outside, and you’ve got hiking trails at your doorstep and ski lessons ready to go in winter. And while you’re having fun, you can keep your kids busy in the playroom and kids’ club.

Berghotel Rehlegg is conveniently located in Berchtesgaden National Park. With Watzmann above us, it didn’t take us long to feel at home. We loved how easy it was to head straight from the hotel onto hiking trails, then come back to a place that felt equal parts traditional Bavarian and wonderfully relaxing.
While there were so many awesome accommodations to choose from, we decided to go with Studio Sonnenrose. The oak floors and warm Alpine furniture gave it so much character, while the handwoven wool carpet added a soft, homey touch. Our favorite? The terrace! Nothing beats sitting out there, being wrapped in blankets, and watching the mountains shift colors.
The food? It was wow! We loved the hearty German breakfasts that kept us full for hours. We also liked lingering by the fire with drinks at the bar or heading to the beer garden if the night was warm enough. When we weren’t eating or exploring, the spa with its saunas, pools, and a massage was our go-to.

Most Romantic. Hotel Das Rübezahl is one of those places that feels too good to be true, especially for lovebirds. First, let’s talk about the location. Staying here, we were just a short walk to the Royal Crystal-Therma spa and a quick drive to the fairytale-like Hohenschwangau Castle. Whether you want to rejuvenate or have fun with your lover, the options are endless.
We booked the Deluxe Suite – Themensuite Royal, and it spoiled us in every way possible. The whirlpool tub and soft bathrobes made us feel like royalty, and the fireplace turned the room into the coziest spot on the property. It had all the little luxuries we could ask for: a minibar for late-night snacks, a flat-screen TV, and even an iPad! What more could we ask for?
But the real magic of Rübezahl was everything waiting outside our door. The complimentary breakfast was great, but we especially enjoyed the regional dishes at Rübezahl’s restaurant. We’re sure you’ll have a great time drinking a glass of wine by the crackling fire with your partner. Meanwhile, the spa is a world of its own. It boasts saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs with mountain views, and even Kneipp baths. To top it off, there’s an outdoor pool and Vespas to rent!

The Boutiquehotel Blaue Burg transported us to another world. The narrow mountain pass twisted higher and higher until we popped out above the clouds, with the Allgäu Alps stretched around us. Right next to the hotel sat the oldest castle ruins in Germany. We originally came for the fine dining, but the idea of heading back down the mountain in the dark was laughable once we saw the hotel.
We booked one of the suites, and it was oozing cozy alpine charm effortlessly. Think oak floors, warm pine walls, and a balcony view so good we kept sneaking outside just to take it all in. We also loved the extras: picking the perfect pillow off a menu, sipping espresso in fluffy robes, and sinking into a tub after a long hike.
The spa is also a highlight. We shuffled around in slippers, hopping between fireplace nooks, a Finnish sauna, and a deck where the Alps felt ridiculously close. We’re not surprised if many travelers are already plotting their excuse to come back to this hotel!

With mountains towering behind us and a glittering lake right at our feet, we couldn’t have asked for a better option than Naturhotel Café Waldesruhe. We loved being close enough to hop over to the Nebelhorn Cable Car for jaw-dropping views. At the same time, we were far away so we could actually hear the water lapping at the shore.
Our Junior Suite turned out to be way more spacious than we’d imagined. Two bedrooms, a cozy sitting area, and a balcony looking out over the garden. Of course, the minibar didn’t stay untouched for long, too. With five beds, it had room to spare, making it an ideal choice if you’re traveling with family or friends.
However, it was the little experiences that made our stay memorable. The breakfast buffet was fantastic (endless coffee and pastries), and we also loved dining at one of the five on-site restaurants from a Michelin-starred chef. We also kept things balanced by having a private yoga class. Aside from that, you can also take advantage of the heated pool, sauna, and other wellness amenities. Best Views. What’s the most special thing about Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt on Lake Tegernsee? We would say the ethereal views. We couldn’t have enough of the views of the mountains dipping into the water with that effortless Bavarian drama. However, the hotel itself also surprised us. It was sleek, stylish, and refreshingly free of lederhosen kitsch.
The real magic, though, was the wellness center. We spent hours wandering from pool to sauna, testing everything from steamy Finnish heat to calming Japanese vibes, and even found time to sprawl out on the hotel’s little private beach. For a minute, we forgot we were in Bavaria at all. Food-wise, we were spoiled: rustic Alpine dishes one night, Italian comfort the next, and of course a splurge-worthy dinner at the Michelin-starred Überfahrt. It was easily one of the most memorable meals of our trip.
Our Elegant Nature Junior Suite was a retreat within a retreat. Soft tones, lots of space, and just enough alpine charm without going overboard. But what really stole our hearts was the balcony. We loved enjoying our morning coffee and tea there with the mist still rising off the lake.

Best Luxury. While there are so many amazing hotels in the Bavarian Alps, nothing doesn’t hold a candle to Schloss Elmau. Just an hour’s drive from Munich, it’s surrounded by the Wetterstein mountains. But it’s not all views. We kept stumbling onto new corners. A cozy bookshop here, a cinema there, and even an indoor archery range. With a meditation garden and an ice rink, it was the kind of place that kept us busy.
The pools, though, completely stole the show. There’s a rooftop pool with its front-row view of Mount Wetterstein and the glowing infinity pools at the Hideaway Badehaus. We also loved the Japanese onsen, where everything slows down. For something wilder, we dipped our toes into Ferchenbach Creek before retreating to the heated lap pool above the rushing water.
We stayed in the Retreat Room, decorated with treasures from Indonesia and Iran, and those floor-to-ceiling windows made it impossible not to stop and stare. Thanks to the balcony, we had a lovely place to sip our coffee with views of the peaks. We also got a peek at the Summit Suite Retreat’s freestanding tub, set perfectly to face the mountaintops. It might be the most enviable bath we’ve ever seen.
