Oklahoma is deeply rooted in Native American culture, whether it’s cultural displays, museums, and more. Even when it comes to practicality, it’s far ahead in the game, especially in terms of marijuana usage. Oklahoma’s marijuana laws continue evolving, just like those of the other states in the last few years. While the use of recreational marijuana is still illegal, using medical marijuana is legal. But it’s so easy to get a medical marijuana license in the state that it’s been fully legalized for all intents and purposes. This is evident in the sheer number of 420 friendly cabins in Oklahoma that have propped up in the last few years. In fact, the state has nearly 9,000 licensed marijuana businesses, which include almost 2,400 dispensaries. Oklahoma? More like Toke-lahoma!
Since Oklahoma also recognizes industrial hemp-derived CBD oil as legal without a license, it’s evident that the state has built the country’s only free-market marijuana industry. So, when we wanted to smoke up peacefully and stay in equally amazing outdoorsy stays, Oklahoma was the place to be and travel to. Here’s our guide to the best 420-friendly lodgings in the Sooner State.
Thousand Oaks Resort, Langley
5
Best resort cabin. Getting high was a whole other high at the Thousand Oaks Resort (formerly Hempton Heights), one of the best cannabis-friendly cabins in the Sooner State. In addition to being weed-friendly, it was also adult-only, so we actually found peace at this 30-acre-huge, oak-tree-lined resort.
This family-owned and operated resort boasted absolutely modern digs that included 16 updated cabins, of which cabins 1-11 and 16 even had private jacuzzi hot tubs. What’s more, most of the cabins had living areas and full kitchens, and all of them came with mod-cons such as Roku TVs and coffeemakers. If that wasn’t enough, there was even an RV park with full hookups for those who were traveling with the best Outdoorsy RVs.
Even when we left our cozy quarters, this resort had lots for us to do. The saltwater pool with daybeds along the side and poolside service was an absolute standout, as we could relax like we wanted. Even though it was seasonal, it was one of the best perks of staying at this property. Moreover, there was also a 24/7 game room/rec center with board games, arcade machines, and a pool table. For outdoorsy peeps like us, there were walking trails to explore at the back of the property and fire pits where we’d enjoy alfresco nights roasting s’mores. An onsite coffee shop serves an array of meals, plus energy drinks, teas, and even room service.
The resort offers a ton of amazing add-ons and packages like munchie packs and charcuterie boards. However, the highlight is that we could consume cannabis anywhere and everywhere on the property, except in the pool. Plus, we didn’t require a medical license to book our stay either. The best bit? We could consume it on the pool deck!

Texoma Getaway, Cartwright

The title says it all, doesn’t it? Welcome to Texoma Getaway, which is exactly what it advertises, a “tiny house on a cannabis farm.” This tiny but stunning house sits on a sprawling 10-acre land in Cartwright, right next to its own cannabis cultivation facility and site! We loved the serenity of this 420-friendly oasis away from the chaos of the urban landscape, along with all the amenities and comfort we needed for a fantastic stay.
Nicknamed “Camp Cana” by the owners, this 400-sq-ft one-bedroom house boasts a wonderful wraparound porch with alfresco seating. It was a wonderful way to soak in the views of the property. Thanks to the full-sized kitchen, we didn’t have to worry about meals. Moreover, the fact that there was even a laundry space ensured that we didn’t have to worry about running out of clothes! That, along with the modern bathroom and cozy bedroom with a plush bed, made our stay very comfortable.
We could smoke anywhere outdoors on the property, which we loved. Did you know that the owner and host here has several certifications with not only the International Tea Institute, the Wine and Spirits Education Trust, and the Court of Master Sommeliers but also in cannabis with the Green Flower and the Trichome Institute? Yes!

Vanaprastha, Stigler

Best rustic. If you’re the spiritual kind, then Vanaprastha is the place where you should be. The offbeat commune is tucked in the middle of the gorgeous outdoors just a few miles from the town of Stigler and is one of the 420-friendly cabins in Oklahoma. This place is set amongst one of the higher peaks in the area, is medical marijuana-friendly, and only offers tents (no camper/RV/cabin access). So, you might have to hike since not all sites are accessible by a 4×4 vehicle. While some sites are primitive, others have conveniences such as firepits, toilets, and potable water.
On the property, you’ll find hiking opportunities, both with and without guides, classes for building primitive structures, yoga, fitness, and more. The surrounding region is said to have seen settlements for everyone ranging from Seminole and Chickasaw natives to Choctaw and Cherokees too. Clearly, the spiritual energy on this land is significant, and when you add toking to it, you’ll feel a different high.

Hemp Hotel, Oklahoma City

Best hotel. Now this one isn’t exactly a cabin, but imagine getting all the comforts of a traditional hotel along with the joy of toking! That’s the Hemp Hotel in Oklahoma City for you, which sits near the airport just a few miles from downtown OKC. This hotel is medicinal marijuana-friendly, which means that one could smoke here if they have a license to smoke, vape, etc. Since we had the license, we loved staying here, especially since we also had many options for both smoking and non-smoking rooms. So, make sure you choose them when booking your accommodations.
In addition, this Travelodge by Wyndham property has a lot of open space and many amenities. These include everything from free Wi-Fi to a business center. Wrapping up the amenities are a 24/7 front desk and room service.

Wilderness Homestead, Jay

Imagine staying at a “soak and toke” cave tavern-like modern hotel; that’s the Wilderness Homestead for you. We stayed at the Indica Inn & Sativa Suite in a private country setting on the fringes of the picturesque city of Jay. This one-of-a-kind two-bedroom cabin offered all modern amenities, including a king bed and two full-sized beds. What’s more, it also had a washer/dryer, a fully equipped kitchen to cook meals, free Wi-Fi, and an outdoor TV, of all things.
But what was really cool about this place is that it also had an actual cave that was lit at night with solar lights. So, we would cozy up in the cave and enjoy a campfire or sit right outside and bake delicious pizzas in the pizza oven that sat right outside. If that wasn’t enough, there was even a babbling brook that wound into the cave, making for the most perfect and peaceful blend of the outdoors and comfy indoors.
The best bit? They more than welcome cannabis as a medication, so if you have a license for the state of Oklahoma, smoke away to glory.

Where to Stay in Oklahoma?
If someone wanted to smoke cannabis legally just about a decade ago, they’d have been out of luck until they booked a trip to Amsterdam. But, since Washington and Colorado became pioneers in legalizing recreational marijuana, the “Green Rush” has only grown. Oklahoma has turned into the “Wild West for Weed,” and it’s easy to see why. While the state’s weed is legal only for medical card holders, they also accept medical card holders from other states. So, whether you’re hiking or watching a game, there’s always a pot shop close by in Oklahoma.
We begin with Oklahoma City, which ranks No. 1 for “pot passion.” In fact, OKC residents search for weed-related terms 117% more than the national average on Google. While other states grow patches, Oklahomans grow “fields,” as evident from the North Canadian River banks in Choctaw and Muskogee Counties. But one of the nation’s largest cannabis plots is Okemah, a tiny hamlet an hour east of OKC. There’s also the innocuous Inola, which lies just a few miles east of Tulsa. Finally, you’ll find dispensaries even in tiny hamlets like Lawton and Bristow, which sit between Tulsa and OKC and thrive on cotton and oil.
Are you driving over to Colorado too? Here are the best 420-friendly Boulder cabins. If you’re the city kind, check out the best 420-friendly Denver hotels.
Recommended Restaurants / Bars in Oklahoma:
- Gypsy Coffee House, Tulsa: This coffeehouse has been a bastion for artistic souls and free-thinkers. It partnered with Eufloria Dispensaries and is Tulsa’s very first cannabis-friendly cafe. While Eufloria stays open 24×7, Gypsy stays open until 2 a.m. Besides coffee and sandwiches, you can also consume cannabis with a medical license on the outdoor patio.
- Smoklahoma Lounge, Tulsa: This Tulsa spot has a dab bar, a space for private events, free Wi-Fi, and a pool table. The storefront is loaded with smoking accessories and is a very popular smoking spot for locals and tourists.
- Gator Alley Cafe & Lounge: This cannabis-friendly lounge and cafe in downtown OKC boasts a 420-friendly patio for safe outdoor consumption. It sits right next to the dispensary PlantMed and even hosts classes, events, parties, and much more. What sets it apart is that it displays some of the state’s favorite brands.
Recommended Activities in Oklahoma:
- Agora Event Center, Tulsa: Featuring breathtaking views of Tulsa’s skyline, the Agora Event Center is a gorgeous and elegant space for intimate meetings, weddings, and community events. Even though it doesn’t explicitly advertise itself as a consumption-friendly venue, it’s home to some of the dopest 420 parties to hit the circuit. In fact, it even hosted the one-year anniversary of The Sesh, Oklahoma City’s most famous cannabis meetup.
Best Cannabis Dispensaries in Oklahoma:
- Med Pharm, Broken Arrow: This mom-and-pop, veteran-owned store even goes as far as donating 30% of proceeds to the Oklahoma Pet Collective Society! But there are more reasons to love this medical-only pot shop, especially since it’s one of the state’s first dispensaries to operate on the maxim of “cannabis with a cause.” They have the best and strongest flower selection in all of Oklahoma. It even has 24×7 service and a drive-thru – now, what could beat that?
- Lifted Spirits, Tahlequah: So, what’s the secret ingredient at Lifted Spirits? Brotherly love! This store is owned and operated by two brothers from Eastern Oklahoma. But it also goes the extra mile on everything from custom merchandise to concentrate recommendations.
