When we were on the lookout for a nice and quiet escape to enjoy the abundant greenery, the Pacific Northwest, specifically the state of Washington, caught our attention. We also wanted to head to this gorgeous place to explore the other “greenery” that’s legal here, i.e., the cannabis culture! While recreational marijuana is legal in the state, it still cannot be used in “public view.” And that meant that we had to turn to weed-friendly hotels to roll a joint in peace. Luckily, we found numerous options for 420-friendly hotels in Washington, especially in Seattle, where edible consumption and even vaping are allowed if the property permits it.
Since smoking in other cities is usually allowed only in private smoking rooms, we found a profusion of hotels and even B&Bs with weed-friendly rooms. In fact, we even found a few exclusive weed-friendly “bud and breakfasts,” as they call themselves! Hence, stoners in Washington looking for a warm welcome would do well to turn to these establishments that allow weed on their property. One tip: Ensure that you read the fine print as to where you can smoke on the property, such as the rooms, the garden, or somewhere else. Here’s a guide to 420-friendly Washington.

The North Admiral Penthouse, Seattle

The very first place on this list is anything but a traditional cannabis hotel. Welcome to the North Admiral Penthouse, which offered us fabulous views of the city. This luxurious two-floor apartment in the eponymous North Admiral district made for a captivating toking-friendly abode for the two of us. Since smoking is prohibited indoors, the best place to light up on the property was the penthouse deck. That’s because it commanded spectacular views of Seattle’s cityscape.
We found the rest of the penthouse to be equally amazing. It came with a master bedroom, a washer-dryer setup, and even a kitchenette for cooking meals. Thanks to the modern bathroom and the free Wi-Fi, we were ensured a very comfortable stay. There were plenty of things to do downstairs, too, including an art gallery, an organic coffee shop, and even a beer and wine lounge. One thing you need to note is that this stunning apartment sits on the 4th/5th floors in a building with no elevator. So, you need to be able to haul your belongings, including yourself, up the stairs.

Best hostel. We were looking for a smoking-friendly hostel in Washington, and there’s no place better than the Green Tortoise Hostel in Seattle. These Emerald City digs are one of the friendliest and most inclusive places we’ve ever stayed at. Since it sits right next to Pike’s Place Market and the waterfront, we were able to explore the city in our own way.
We loved the rooms at this hostel, which included dorms (only for women) as well as private rooms. There were even beds with privacy curtains and gender-neutral restrooms. That said, the bathrooms with heated tile floors and rainfall showerheads really set them apart from the others.
If that wasn’t enough, the staff was more than happy to help us with free walking tours, pub crawls, bicycle rentals, and computer access too, if needed. But the best bit of all is that despite indoor smoking not being allowed in Seattle, the hostel had a 420-friendly smoking lounge. So, when we wanted to light up and smoke, we could do so without making others uncomfortable. Finally, the place offered free breakfast every day, with brownies on Sunday. (Not the special kind, unfortunately!)

We were looking for 420-friendly digs outside the bustle of Spokane in eastern Washington and fell in love with River House Bed and Breakfast in Nine Mile Falls. This gorgeous B&B sits right on the banks of the Spokane River, with lush gardens and hammocks where we could smoke in peace. We had the choice of two rooms, Jessie’s Room and the Bungalow Suite, both of which came with mod-cons and luxe bathrooms. The Bungalow suite even had a porch where we’d enjoy our morning coffee and evening libations.
That said, smoking isn’t allowed anywhere in the rooms or on the porch. That’s why the B&B has some of the most gorgeous outdoors ever, where we could inhale concentrates, roll a joint, and consume edibles in peace. During evenings, we’d love curling up in front of the outdoor fireplaces and grilling dinner at the barbeque grills and enjoying it alfresco.

Most romantic. We wanted to enjoy a trippy holiday out in Washington’s great big outdoors. And we actually found an escape into the woods at the fairy tale-worthy Mountain Views B&B in Monroe.
This treehouse-based property is home to many whimsical treehouse options, such as Trippy Treehouse, Potleaf Treehouse, and the 420 Treehouse. What’s more, we could smoke not just outdoors but also indoors, and the B&B even provided us with a vaporizer. If that wasn’t enough, the rooms all have HDTVs, heavenly pillowtop beds, and even private bathrooms. Since this is a pet-friendly B&B, we even got our doggie along, and they had companions in the form of not just another dog but also a donkey, a horse, a pig, and even a swearing parrot! We chose the Pot Leaf Treehouse set amidst old-growth, moss-covered trees down a stone path. We’d roll joints in the comfy seated area, in the hammock below, or even in the hot tub. Moreover, the full-size plush bed ensured a good night’s sleep.
This quirky, 420-friendly farm even has a newly renovated kitchen, Wi-Fi, and even a massive hot tub. All in all, if you’re looking for a socially distant, cannabis-fuelled dream of a glamping experience, then this Treehouse property is just the thing for you.

Imagine living in a charming smoke-friendly Victorian home in the very heart of Spokane – that’s the 1899 House Bed & Breakfast for you. Like other places, this B&B doesn’t allow smoking indoors but allowed us to smoke pipes or joints in the privacy of the front porch or the east patio. Even then, this was rare for any 420-friendly accommodation, and we were impressed. What’s more, we could even enjoy smoking up near the trickling waters of the lovely fountain on the verdant and landscaped grounds.
Officially the Edward Louise Powell House, this restrained Queen Anne-style B&B has three suites, the Dora, Rigby, and Hospitality Suites, which come with all mod-cons, snacks, and fresh flowers. While the Dora and Hospitality suites share a bath, Rigby has a private one, and that’s where we stayed. It was one of the most memorable stays we’ve ever had.

Best adults-only. While looking for an adults-only place, we came across what is a historically registered, cannabis-friendly B&B in Tacoma, the Blue Whale Inn. We loved everything about this centrally-located inn, right from the hosts’ hospitality to the gorgeous Puget Sound views from the room. In line with their consumption policy, they provided a Storz and Bickel “Mighty” vaporizer for use in the common areas of the property. Plus, they even allowed us to use a vaporizer in the rooms. Since we couldn’t use cannabis indoors, we were allowed to use them in the accessible parts of the house, including the grounds.
On the inside, we were treated like royalty. We loved our master suite, which came with a plush bed and ensuite bathroom with bath products. Our days began with home-style ‘from-scartch’ breakfasts using fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Plus, we were also treated to other delicious homemade meals, including fresh artisan bread that the hosts baked themselves in their kitchen.

Thompson, Seattle

Best hotel. It might not advertise it outwardly, but the Thompson in Seattle is one 420-friendly hotel. In fact, when a guest visited the hotel back in 2017, she found some very welcome treats after a long and nauseating flight – a basketful of goodies from the Goodship Edible Company! The Willy Wonka of the cannabis world had sent her chocolates, pastilles, some Marlet Natural pre-rolls, whole flower from Dutchy, and even high-potency buds from Headlight. Since offering actual cannabis products isn’t permitted, this is a very creative way for cannabis-friendly accommodations to please their guests.
This hotel, which also happens to be one of Downtown Seattle’s best boutique hotels, greeted us with a glass of wine. Then, the hospitable staff led us to the amazing rooms and suites with floor-to-ceiling windows. We enjoyed a very comfy and rather wonderful stay in the King Room with the Water View, which offered superb views of Elliott Bay. Wrapping up the amenities were the rooftop terrace, lounge and bar, two restaurants, and the 24-hour fitness center. The best bit? All of them, especially the rooftop terrace, offered spectacular views of the Olympic Mountains and Elliott Bay.

Cecil Bacon Manor Bed & Breakfast, Seattle

The Cecil Bacon Manor Bed & Breakfast, formerly the Bacon Mansion, is perhaps one of the most well-known and popular 420-friendly stays in the Emerald City. This Capitol Hill B&B sits in a stately Tudor mansion named after its architect, Cecil Bacon.
What’s more, the hotel’s cannabis-friendly promise was something that it lived up to. For one, since smoking indoors isn’t allowed, we could smoke on the porch, the patio, or any of the outside areas as we pleased. That is, as long as there wasn’t a window or door nearby.
If that wasn’t enough, this 1909-built place was a great spot for us history lovers, as the structure is over 100 years old and retained most of the original exterior and floor plan. On the inside, we even found a library, a grand piano, marble fireplaces, stained-glass windows, and a chandelier. And while it didn’t outwardly advertise itself as a cannabis-friendly hotel, guests who call and ask about the cannabis-friendly accommodations will have their needs attended to.

Bed Baked and Beyond Cherry Hill Guesthouse, Seattle

The Bed Baked and Beyond Cherry Hill Guesthouse is one of the most popular 420-friendly B&Bs in Washington. This Victorian-style home was just like Bacon Mansion, but it’s far quainter and caters specifically to cannabis enthusiasts and aficionados.
While they don’t allow smoking indoors, keeping in line with the state’s policy, they have a very nice “Pot-ting shed” smokers’ lounge, if you know what they mean. What’s more, they also have two outdoor seating areas in the form of porches and even a backyard with a fire pit where we could smoke. In fact, the backyard, with its field of daisies and lawn chairs, was like a smoking haven.
We had the choice of a host of rooms, including the utterly charming 1940s Ballard’s Bungalow. Since we were on a romantic retreat, we chose the harem-like Sweet Suite, which has an enormous sexy red-and-gold bed, a private bathroom, and a TV. Our days began with delectable complimentary breakfasts of coffee, organic tea, seasonal fruits, and homemade gourmet muffins. In fact, the hosts even invited us to sample complimentary craft beer at the bar during the evenings. What fun!

The Wesley, Walla Walla

Tucked in the historic Ward House in Walla Walla lies The Wesley Walla Walla, a rather unique and special accommodation. It was developed specially keeping cannabis users and usage in mind. The Wesley has room for 36 guests, making it a very intimate hotel-like place for us to stay. Plus, it even had a 250-people event space, in case someone wants to organize an event here.
The modern aesthetic of the B&B pairs beautifully with the classic Victorian 1878 architecture and the private, lush outdoor space. The entire property is cannabis-friendly, including both interior and exterior areas for consumption. When we arrived, they even gave us a welcome package featuring either cannabis or local wine.
What’s more, there are specific vaping-only common spaces and rooms so that everyone was comfortable. There’s even an interior “speakeasy” basement space for exclusive and special events. If that wasn’t enough, we loved the massive outdoor hot tub on the deck. After a long day of exploring Walla Walla, we’d enjoy a soak, followed by a lounge on the daybeds next to it.

Fat Duck Inn, Walla Walla

Sitting at the top of this list is the Fat Duck Inn in Walla Walla, one of the best 420-friendly stays in all of Washington. This historical vacation rental made us feel like we were visiting our grandma’s house, but with weed-friendly policies!
While the hosts didn’t mind cannabis usage at the inn, they don’t allow any smoking of any substances inside or on the grounds. Instead, they welcomed us to vaporize it or consume edibles instead. Hence, it was a great way to consume weed legally without worrying about disturbing or causing unrest to others.
The rest of the 1928 Crafstman Inn is equally amazing and featured made-to-order breakfasts as well as freshly baked cookies in the afternoons. We had the choice of five amazing suites, all of which had comfy mod-cons and even private bathrooms in all except one. Wrapping up the amenities is the beautiful garden patio, where we’d relax, stoned and not stoned.

Where to Stay in Washington?
The Evergreen State of Washington is one of the USA’s most marijuana-friendly states. While medicinal marijuana was legalized way back in 1998, even recreational marijuana has been legal since 2012, except in Federal places. One of the top places in Washington to enjoy weed is Seattle, which has a fascinating culture, art, and food scene too. The city is also home to many cannabis dispensaries, hotels, and even cannabis-based tours. Get high as you listen to music from legends like Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, and Pearl Jam, who call this city home.
Tacoma, which lies just south of Seattle, is a haven for people who love the ganja. This cannabis-friendly city has numerous locations to explore after you inhale concentrates, roll some joints, or grab some edibles, such as the Narrows Park, especially late in the afternoon. Next, the tiny and oft-overlooked Bellingham, in the shadow of the snow-filled Mt. Baker, is a great laidback cannabis-friendly town.
Finally, Kirkland and Bellevue’s small but vibrant cities have a handful of marijuana shops, even within their small limits. And, of course, they have magnificent outdoor spaces and natural beauty.

- Shawarma King, Seattle: No matter how late you’ve smoked up in Seattle, you’ll always find a Shawarma King open somewhere. With two U-District locations open until as late as 3 am, you can enjoy delicious Mediterranean favorites such as shawarma and gyros after a stony evening.
- Red Elm Cafe, Tacoma: This upbeat cafe founded by three creative sisters is perfect for early-rising patrons who’re smoked out early in the morning. Dig into delicious coffee and incredible waffles that’ll give you the energy to start the day on a different kind of high note.
Recommended Activities in Washington:
- Pike Place Market Walking Food Tour: There’s nothing in Seattle like exploring Pike Place Market, one of the best places to visit In Washington and one of the USA’s top tourist attractions. Led by a local, this delectable tour takes you deep into the heart of the bustling market as you exclusively sample some of the finest local and international food available here.
- Seattle Underground Walking Tour: Head down below Pioneer Square on this rather offbeat tour and explore a different side of Seattle. This tour takes you through three underground 1890s-constructed passageways as you learn about Seattle’s forgotten history.
Best Cannabis Dispensaries in Washington:
- World of Weed, Tacoma: Leafly calls this the #1 dispensary in Washington, and it’s a no-brainer why. That’s because they offer many untraditional and hand-selected strains from local farmers all around the state. Plus, they have a knowledgeable staff and a safety-first protocol. And their ganja is mind-blowing.
- Origins Cannabis, West Seattle: This is the kind of place that reveres weed as both a science and an art. What’s more, their deals and selection are equally thoughtfully laid out, as they sell everything from concentrates and joints to edibles, flowers, and more.
