Okay, we’ll be honest and admit that we weren’t really “workout shorts” people – leggings, yes, but bike shorts? You can forget about it. We thought that bike shorts wouldn’t look very flattering on us, but when the temperatures began rising, we had no choice but to ditch our full-length bottoms for something more comfortable. And when we set out to find great shorts that we would actually look forward to putting on, we found the Lulu biker shorts 4-inch ones. The mid-thigh-cropped workout shorts are among the brand’s bestselling bottomwear and have been trending hard for quite a few years now. And their popularity shows no signs of fading away. So, what are you waiting for? Check out our detailed and comprehensive guide to the best biking shorts from Lululemon.
Wunder Train Biker Shorts
6
The Wunder Train Biker Shorts are easily the most compressive biker shorts we’ve tried on. These high-rise shorts are designed for the sweatiest workouts and with extra shape retention. This is thanks to the fast-drying Everlux fabric, which has a four-way stretch, is supportive, and flexible. In fact, it has the most compression or “hug” for staying up through training sessions. Additionally, this fabric was great for us as we wore our shorts more than once before washing, trying to get the most out of it. Besides coming in 4-inch, 6-inch, and 8-inch inseams, they also come in a “Contour Fit” version with extra room through the thighs and hips for curvy builds.
In fact, Lulu’s Wunder Under Pants, the longer version of these shorts, is one of the best hot yoga pants.
” I was so happy and frankly a relief to see and wear shorts that don’t ride up all the time.”

Base Pace High-Rise Shorts
5
Are you looking for shorts that don’t dig into your thighs and also stay in place? You need the Base Pace High-Rise Shorts in your life. And we can say this with conviction as we had the same amazing experience with these shorts.
For one, these biker shorts have a “gripping” fabric on the inside at the bottom seam instead of the usual hard seam. This greatly prevented the shorts from rolling up our thighs during training sessions and runs. What’s more, they’re made from the sweat-wicking, quick-drying Nulux fabric that’s weightless and is designed to be stretchable four ways. At the same time, it felt breathable, cool, and sleek to the touch, which didn’t leave us sweating. Finally, these high-rise shorts come in both six and eight-inch inseams.
Pros
- These shorts run true to the size.
- They come in all sizes ranging from 0 to 20.
- They’re designed for sweaty activities without leaving us feeling sweaty.
Cons

Align Biker Shorts
4
This is “the” pair of biker shorts that made biker shorts cool again. Behold the Align Biker Shorts, which is one of Lulu’s bestselling products of all time. They’re our top pick when it comes to comfortable bike shorts, and it’s easy to see why. For one, they’re using the same super-soft buttery Nulu fabric, just like its world-famous Align Leggings. It’s weightless, stretches four ways, is breathable and sweat-wicking, on top of everything. So, we indulged in many activities that involved stretching without worrying too much about tearing the shorts or not being able to do it in the first place. If that wasn’t enough, the shorts come in two rises, super-high-rise and high-rise, as well as 4 inseam lengths, 4, 6, 8, and 10-inch inseams.
Pros
- These shorts are lined for coverage.
- They’re made from the brand’s proprietary Nulu fabric.
- They come in multiple color, rise, and inseam options.
Cons
- The sizing could be a bit off.

Speed Up High-Rise Lined Shorts
3
We love a plethora of color options when it comes to shorts. That’s one of the reasons why we loved the Speed Up High-Rise Lined Shorts. We had the option of not one or two but nine colors, including the gorgeous poolside blue you see below. That said, there were many other things we loved about these shorts. Firstly, they boast a flat and wide waistband that was all about keeping us comfortable on long training sessions and runs. In fact, the stretchy waistband is also great for postpartum and even pregnancy. Compared to other high-rise shorts, we felt that these lined shorts offered more coverage through the butt and thighs. Hence, we were comfortable in our own skin. Even then, these shorts come in various rises, high-rise, mid-rise, and low-rise, as well as 2 inseam lengths of 2.5 and 4 inches.
Pros
- They come in various sizes ranging from 0 to 20.
- These shorts offer great coverage, despite being shorter than other shorts.
- They come in great color, inseam, and rise options.
Cons
- They’re expensive.

Track That Shorts
2
One of the best shorts we came across in our hunt for biking shorts is the Track That Shorts. This was specifically designed keeping us athletic kinds in mind. We liked the ‘split short’ design on the sides, which provided just the additional room in the hip and the leg opening area that we wanted. Moreover, these shorts felt way more “flowy” and lightweight as compared to other Lulu shorts. This is mainly due to the swift, lightweight fabric, a mixture of 86% polyester and 14% elastane. If that wasn’t enough, the shorts even have a small side zipper pocket that we could use to securely hold our keys, cards, and some cash during our runs and workout sessions. Finally, these shorts come in two inseam lengths, three and five inches, and two rises, high and mid-rise.
Pros
- These shorts come in four colors, two rises, and two inseam options.
- There are also size options ranging from 0 to 20.
- The shorts are very flowy and sit easily on the body.
Cons
- There are mostly just neutral color options.

The Hotty Hot Shorts are, without a doubt, the best 4-inch Lulu biker shorts we’ve ever seen or worn. These shorts offered weightless coverage for deep squats, long runs, and everything in between. There are a lot of things going on for these shorts, starting with the iconic wide-leg opening and curved hems that help maximize movement. They’re made from lightweight, swift fabric that’s stretchable four ways, is sweat-wicking, and quick-drying. In fact, it’s the fabric that supported us through physical and mental short runs. Not only did we feel good and comfortable in these lightweight shorts, but we were also able to run with more confidence. Finally, the infinity drawcord for a customizable fit and the mesh fabric panels wrap up the amazing list of features. It’s no wonder that it’s part of the best Lululemon matching sets for women.

- We loved the continuous draw cord, as it wouldn’t get lost in the wash and was easy to cinch.
- The discreet zip pocket is great for stashing small items.

How To Choose The Best Lululemon Biker Shorts?
Liner and grippers
When it comes to bike shorts, there are some specific factors we need to consider, such as liners and grippers. Crotch liners, which are synthetic now as opposed to chamois leather earlier, help greatly avoid chafing when riding. Look for shorts with a smooth, large, absorbent, and moderately padded single piece of liner, which has the best chance of making you feel comfortable. Additionally, we looked for shorts with leg grippers, as there’s nothing more frustrating than shorts riding up and the material bunching in the crotch. Also, we made sure that the leg grippers were securely sewn in, made from a sticky, rubber-like material, and felt snug and not tight.
Length
- Waist length: The better-made cycling shorts are cut high in the back to keep skin covered in the bent-over riding position. Likewise, they are low in front so that you can bend forward without restriction. The front shouldn’t be so low, though, that it’s below your hip bones with nothing to help hold it up.
- Leg length: Hem lengths can be both long and short. The long ones end just above the knee, while the short ones are even shorter and preferred by those who attend spinning classes.
Waistband
The waistband is perhaps the most important feature of the biker shorts. For one, we looked for shorts whose elastic was wide enough, so it didn’t feel like a cord around our middle. At the same time, we ensured that there was a waistband and not just a drawstring. Also, a combination of the waistband and drawstring also works – just a drawstring won’t work.
Stretchability and fit
Finally, we come to the stretchability and the fit of the shorts. Most shorts are made from stretchy spandex, as they’re easy to pull on and take off. The idea is to provide assistance while pedaling, which spandex helps to do. The spandex fabric ‘stores” kinetic energy on the rear part, releasing it when we push down.
