New England is such an iconic destination. Whether you want to explore all six states or just a couple of them, you’re guaranteed a memorable vacation. It offers quite literally everything. From the highlands to the shores. From the atmospheric Vermont and busy Boston to the airy beaches in Cape Cod. New England is a haven full of amazing cities and an infinite amount of fun activities to experience with our pets. The best part is there are so many amazing hotels for us and our pets to choose from. In fact, if we could list more than 11 best pet-friendly hotels in New England we would, but that would take a novel-length article for us to finish.

That said, we made sure to include most of the big cities all over New England. There are a couple of hotels from Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. That way, whichever state you choose as your destination, we have it covered.

Lord Camden Inn

The Lord Camden Inn is a recurring pick for us. The last time we were in Camden, we ranked this hotel as our overall best pet-friendly hotel in Maine. And our second time here was just as great, if not, even better than the first time.

Firstly, the hotel’s welcoming vibe and atmosphere always make us and our dog feel cherished. The staff was always lovely and never failed to greet our dog with high-fives and treats. Opting for a room with a balcony and a partially exposed brick wall added to the charming New England aesthetic. The hotel provided our dog with a plush fleece bed, water and food bowls, and gourmet biscuits. They even went the extra mile and gave us a list of nearby pet-friendly spots and vets.

Furthermore, for the “Pampered Pooch Accommodation” services, we had to pay an extra fee of $50 per pet/night. The amenities, attentive staff, and ideal location make it worthwhile even on the pricier side. And lastly, the hotel accommodates a maximum of two dogs per room with no size restrictions. So it’s definitely worth checking out.

The Francis Hotel

The Francis Hotel in Portland, Maine, stands out as one of the most unique places we’ve visited. Its blend of minimalist furnishings and vintage architecture, showcased in a charming red brick building, creates a distinctive atmosphere. Our favorite spots included the stylish lounge and the pet-friendly patio are perfect for enjoying the weather with our dog. Beyond its aesthetics, the hotel provided a delightful stay.

When it comes to pet care, The Francis Hotel excels. They allow pet dogs for a fee of $35 per night, along with a $250 cleaning deposit. This motivated us to ensure our well-trained pups left no mess. The hotel even designated a tiled space in our room for our dogs to enjoy their treats. A welcome bag in the room, containing treats, a bowl, and a personalized welcome board made our dogs feel extra special. Moreover, the hotel permits pets to be left in the room for up to 2.5 hours, allowing us to enjoy spa treatments and evenings at local restaurants.

The Eliot Hotel

Best Hotel With No Pet Fee. For the iconic Boston, we had no choice but to stay at one of the most iconic pet-friendly accommodations in the city, The Eliot Hotel. Built in 1925, this historic hotel in Boston exudes historical significance which was apparent in its regal decor and atmosphere. Most importantly, they excel on both fronts when it comes to hospitality for us humans and for our pets.

The hotel welcomes both cats and dogs with no size restriction. Moreover, there were no extra pet fees! When we stayed here, we were with our two dogs, and the staff greeted them with enthusiasm and treats. For our room, we had a suite, complete with a separate seating area featuring cozy couches, which became our dogs’ claimed territory. Notably, our pets were given pet bowls and more treats and were allowed to be left unattended in the room as long as they were crated.

Furthermore, beyond pet-friendly amenities, the hotel’s Back Bay location proved ideal. Nestled in this iconic Boston area, we easily found excellent local restaurants and parks for our dogs. In summary, The Eliot Hotel offered a great deal and delivered a fantastic stay for us and our pets.

Queen Vic Guest House

From the busy streets of Boston, we move to the seaside of Provincetown for a lay-back vacay. In this quaint beach town, we secured a room at the Queen Vic Guest House for us and our dog. Once a historical captain’s abode, the Queen Vic is now an amazing pet-friendly boutique hotel with excellent services and even more amazing hospitality.

Moreover, since the hotel is locally owned, the staff were extra attentive and helpful. Our check-in was smooth sailing. The pet fee came to $45 per pet/night, which was worth considering how nice our experience was. That said, the hotel welcomes a maximum of two dogs per room with no size restrictions. It worked well for us, considering we only brought one dog with us. Unfortunately, cats aren’t allowed.

Now, when it comes to the accommodation itself, we had nothing to complain about. Our room was great, complete with charming decor, a plush bed, and all the necessary amenities. Our favorite part of the hotel was the lovely garden where we would hang out with our dog. Plus, the hotel’s location was a highlight, too, since it’s right in the heart of Provincetown, with the beach only a block away.

The Dean Hotel

Another classic New England destination is Providence, Rhode Island. When we visited this city with our furry friend, we found ourselves staying at the trendy Dean Hotel. It was nothing but an incredible experience. The hotel is simply excellent when it comes to pet-friendly services.

For starters, they happily welcomed our dog with no extra charges! Granted, their pet policies only allowed one dog per room, with a maximum weight of 20 lbs. And cats or other exotic animals like birds are sadly not permitted. That said, with us only bringing our puppy, we had no problem checking in. The staff even gave our dog some treats. When we got to our guestroom, we were delighted to find a pristine and spacious room with wood flooring, making cleaning our pup’s mess easier.

Furthermore, when it comes to the location, we found ourselves right in the heart of the city. Our favorite go-to pet-friendly pub, Murphy’s Providence, also happens to be just around the block. Plus, when we wanted to explore around, the hotel had complimentary bikes for us to take.

Nantucket Resort Collection

When traveling to New England, we simply can’t miss Nantucket. This historical whaling town offered us not only pristine beaches but also some of the best pet-friendly hotels in New England. One accommodation we had the most fun at was the luxurious Nantucket Resort Collection. It’s located within walking distance of the Historic Downtown and has one of the best deals when it comes to pet policies.

When we got here, the staff wasted no time in making us feel right at home. Our pups were given the utmost welcome. Treats and belly rubs were aplenty from the staff. With only a $175 pet fee per stay, our dog got a package consisting of bowls, a dog bed, toys, and waste bags. Plus, walking services for our dog from the resort’s Pet Concierge. And since our dog is very well-behaved, we were able to leave him unattended in our room. That said, the hotel allows a max of two dogs of all breeds and sizes per room. Cats, however, aren’t permitted.

The resort itself was the epitome of comfort and luxury. We felt very homey, but the chich decor complemented Nantucket’s atmosphere well. The beautiful gardens in the resorts quickly became our favorite spot, second only to the beach walkways.

The Goodwin

The Goodwin in Hartford, Connecticut, got the perfect old-timey New England vibe in the comfort of a cosmopolitan city. Standing tall since 1881 in the heart of downtown Hartford, this hotel is not only a landmark but also our chosen best pet-friendly hotel in town.

Upon entering the lobby, the staff warmly welcomed us, and our dog got some friendly ear scratches and their fave gourmet treats. Following that, we checked in, paid the $100 pet fee per stay, and then assisted to our guestroom by the staff. The room itself was very comfortable and spacious. Our dog especially loved the chaise. Beyond that, the decor was quite the star of the room; it was the combination of vintage furnishings and luxurious amenities.

Furthermore, when it comes to pet policies, the hotel’s was pretty standard. We find the pet fee to be reasonable, considering the benefits we were given. We especially loved the location since Bushnell Park is just a few blocks away. Plus, cats are also permitted, and there are no size restrictions for pets.

The Study at Yale

Best Atmosphere. When visiting New Haven, Connecticut, it was only natural that we stayed in a hotel right on Yale’s campus. Having said that, we chose The Study at Yale not only for its proximity to the Ivy League university but also because of its well-known pet-friendly services. It also doesn’t hurt that the hotel had the perfect academic aesthetics that New England is often romanticized for. In the lobby, there’s even a bookcase where we can peruse books while drinking our morning coffees.

However, for our dogs, a cozy spot and ample treats were the main priorities, making everything else a pleasant bonus for us. The hotel staff excelled in hospitality, ensuring a seamless check-in even with our two dogs. The pet fee was a reasonable $75 per pet per stay, aligning well with our budget. The guestroom offered ample space, featuring comfortable beds, a chaise, and various amenities. Lastly, our favorite feature was the large window providing a view of the campus’s iconic red brick buildings.

Mountain View Grand Resort and Spa

Nestled in the deep mountains of Whitefield, NH, the Mountain View Grand Resort and Spa proves to be our perfect pet-friendly getaway. Staying here, we had full, unadulterated relaxation with our furry buddy. The location allowed us to be away from the city’s noises. And despite being so secluded, the resort provided everything for our entertainment. From a golf course, a theater room, boutiques, pools, and wellness centers, to our fave, the farm, the resort had it all.

Furthermore, when it comes to the hotel’s pet policies, it was pretty simple. We were allowed one dog per room weighing a max of 40 lbs, and there was a pet fee per night. Our dog was given goody bags with toys and treats. In our guestroom, we were provided with a dog bed and bowls. Also, a pro tip: Make sure to prepare your dog’s vaccination cards since we were required to show our dogs’.

Lastly, with all of that taken care of, what was left were fun days to unwind with our dog. While our puppy loved to run amok in the lush yard, both of us greatly enjoyed playing with the farm animal.

Hilton Burlington Lake Champlain

Best Location. Our recent New England escapade landed us in charming Burlington, VT, known for its picturesque streets and breathtaking views. Bringing along our furry cat, we chose the Hilton Burlington Lake Champlain, a favored pet-friendly haven.

The hotel’s modern allure suited us, accommodating up to two pets per room and adhering to our cat’s weight limit of 75 lbs, with a $50 pet fee per pet per stay. Our room, overlooking Lake Champlain, featured a large window, providing our cat with ample sunspots for her royal lounging.

Moreover, the hotel’s hospitality and facilities, including an indoor pool and fitness center, lived up to Hilton’s high standards. Its prime downtown location in Burlington served as a perfect launchpad for our exploration, conveniently situated across from Lake Champlain and Waterfront Park. Utilizing the hotel’s bikes, we effortlessly roamed town, with our cat comfortably perched in the bike basket, enhancing our delightful experience.

Woodstock Inn and Resort

At Woodstock Inn and Resort, we indulged in the epitome of tranquil luxury, accompanied by our four-pawed companion. Nestled in the peaceful Woodstock village, surrounded by the Green Mountains, this resort provided a serene escape into nature. The classic and regal decor added to the experience, making us feel like modern-day Rockefellers.

Moreover, the staff’s exceptional warmth extended to our dog, as they allowed two pets per room, be it cats or dogs. Although the $150 pet fee per stay leaned towards the pricier side, our furry bestie’s comfort was paramount. Additionally, the pet amenities proved outstanding, with our dog enjoying the garden and a beautifully appointed guestroom featuring his own bed, bowls, and treats. Outdoor meals amidst nature became a cherished routine.

With our well-behaved pup allowed unattended in our room, we had the freedom to indulge in the resort’s luxurious facilities. From heavenly spa treatments to lively tennis matches, the options were abundant. The prospect of winter skiing added an extra layer of excitement.

Three areas distinctly stood out in our quest for the quintessential pet-friendly destination: Boston, Woodstock, and Cape Cod. Firstly, Boston’s vibrant energy and historical significance create a dynamic backdrop for our exploration. The city boasts dog-friendly parks, charming neighborhoods, and numerous pet-friendly hotels, making it an ideal urban retreat for us and our beloved furry companions.

Pet-Friendly Restaurants / Bars in England

• The Bell In Hand Tavern – When in Boston, we couldn’t help but check out “America’s First Tavern” at The Bell In Hand Tavern. It has all the classic tavern menus, from burgers and pretzels to tacos and crafted beers. The outdoor tables are open to pets too, and the staff was nice enough to bring out a water bowl for our furry friends.
• White Cottage Snack Bar – This one is a local favorite at Woodstock, VT. Located right next to the Ottauquechee River, we were able to indulge in amazing food and even have a splash at the river. For dessert, we and our pup enjoyed some handmade ice cream.
• Sandbar at Jetties Beach – When in Nantucket, the only correct way to enjoy our meals is right by the beach. And at Sandbar at Jetties Beach, we got to enjoy exactly that. Our dogs got to run around, and we got to enjoy both the food and the view.

Pet-Friendly Activities In New England

• Boston Public Garden – The Boston Public Garden provides a green space in the middle of the bustling city. In the garden, we were able to have a nice stroll around with our furry friends and take pics for the ‘gram.
• Sugarbush Farm – This family-owned cheese factory in Woodstock, VT, is on our fave farm to visit. They’re pet-friendly, so we were able to bring our pup with us to look at the cheese-making process. While there, we also walked through the maple woods and had a tour of the sugar house, where they showed us how maple syrup is made. At the end of our visit, we got to sample the hand-crafted products and bought some for souvenirs.
• Land Bank Dog Park – While the beach is an obvious go-to activity with your dogs in Nantucket, you can also never go wrong with the good ol’ dog park.

Best Pet Stores In New England

• The Fish & Bone Boston – This local’s fave pet store is where we mostly get our pet supplies while in Boston. Whether we are in need of pet food, accessories, or grooming supplies, The Fish & Bone Boston has them all.
• The Quirky Pet – Located in Montpelier, The Quirky Pet left a long-lasting impression on us. True to its name, this locally-owned pet store had a quirky vibe and unique decor, but most importantly, its pet supplies are stocked to the brim. They had everything we needed for our pet. And the staff was nice and helpful in showing us their best products.
• Geronimo’s of Nantucket – Geronimo’s is one of our favorite one-stop shops in Nantucket. Like the other pet stores we have on this list, Geronimo’s also has a great selection of products for our pets. Whether it’s dog or cat food, toys, or beds, Geronimo’s got them. Plus, they also have all sorts of services, including a DIY dog washing service.
