Dynamic, pulsating, and lively, New York City, famous as the “City That Never Sleeps,” makes for one amazing destination for a vacation, even for families. When planning our family vacation to the Big Apple, we realized that our biggest travel expense would be food. While we did want to dig into NYC’s local delights, there would be times when we’d want not to eat out, even if it was to save money. While we’ve seen many hotels with microwaves and mini-fridges, they could sometimes begin to feel like college dorms. That’s why we sought out the best hotels with kitchens in New York City.
Not only were they a great way to save money on food, but it was a great way to ensure that our family would eat healthy. The fully-equipped kitchens/kitchenettes in the hotels we found were precious little details, complete with microwaves, coffeemakers, fridges, stovetops, and even silverware and dishware. This perk certainly had a superb effect on our traveling experience. So, why not choose hotels in the Big Apple with kitchens so you can whip up easy meals on the fly? Here are the best choices for stays with kitchens/kitchenettes in NYC.

Trump International Hotel & Tower New York
11
We begin with an unlikely hotel for this list, which is the Trump International Hotel & Tower New York. This hotel was perfect for our extended stay and is great for larger groups of travelers and families. That’s because they have not just deluxe and superior rooms, but also one/two/three/four-bedroom suites. Furthermore, every single room and suite boasted jaw-dropping floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the Manhattan skyline and Central Park. However, the suites were a class apart, all of which came with fully-equipped kitchens so we could whip up home-cooked meals whenever we wanted. While the Junior Suites have kitchenettes, our Executive One-Bedroom Suite had a full European-style kitchen with Sub-Zero kitchen appliances. So, we were able to even enjoy cooking lavish meals the evenings we stayed in.
Besides amazing suites and a killer location smack dab in the heart of Manhattan, the hotel, not surprisingly, has some excellent top-notch amenities. The 6,000 sq. ft. fitness center with a decadent spa and a heated indoor lap pool is the highlight. Additionally, there are two world-renowned restaurants, Nougatine and the Michelin-star Jean-Georges. It’s no wonder it’s one of the best hotels in Manhattan.

The Lombardy

In a city (in)famous for its small living spaces, it’s hard to imagine a boutique hotel having kitchens in the accommodations. However, the Lombardy offers spacious rooms and even larger suites, all of which feature unique luxury touches. While the entry-level standard rooms are like those of any other NYC hotel, it’s the studios and suites we can’t stop raving about.
The smaller studios with a king or two queen beds come with stocked kitchenettes, complete with sinks, toasters, microwaves, coffeemakers, and fridges. So, we were able to unwind with a nice cup of joe whenever we wanted, besides whipping up light meals, of course. Do you want to indulge? Check out the residential-style suites with a king or two queen beds, which offer the convenience of a full kitchen. The stocked kitchen has not only sinks, toasters, microwaves, coffeemakers, and fridges, but also stoves and tabletop items.
Despite being a boutique hotel, we enjoyed free continental breakfasts every morning at the Martini Bar. While it was simple — fruit, toast, croissants, muffins, juice, coffee — it was enough to kickstart our day on a high note. What’s more, the friendly front desk even gave us printed maps when we couldn’t find our way sometimes, as well as help out with other issues readily.

Mint House at 70 Pine

We were looking for good 2-bedroom suite hotels in New York City since we were traveling with kids in tow, and we couldn’t find a place better than Mint House at 70 Pine. Nestled in an Art Deco building in the heart of the Financial District, the hotel sits in an excellent location close to Downtown, the subway, Wall Street, and Pier 17. What’s more, it had many amazing amenities, including the likes of a gourmet grocer, a modern fitness center, a golf simulator, and even a bowling alley.
However, what we were truly impressed by were the accommodation options, which ranged from studios to two-bedroom suite options. What’s more, they all had full kitchenettes/kitchens with utensils, dishware, glassware, and stainless steel cookware. Additionally, the spaces also had full-sized fridges, microwaves, stovetops, and even separate islands with sinks. Since we were a huge group traveling together, cooking meals was not only easy but fun, as we’d all hang out together during the process. We were impressed by the choices in even these units, especially since this is one of the few sleek boutique stays in the city with two-bedroom suites. Finally, they all had washer-dryer units, smart TVs, Wi-Fi, Malin+Goetz bath products, and Frette linens.

The Kimberly Hotel

Diplomats and otherwise love the Kimberly Hotel, which boasts 154 luxury suites in spacious 500-to-600-sq-ft layouts, which is spacious by NYC hotel standards. What’s more, except for 11 of them, all one/two-bedroom suites have private balconies, which is an absolute rarity in NYC. However, what we liked the most about the hotel suites was that they came with home-style conveniences like kitchenettes, as well as discrete dining and living areas. These kitchenettes, or rather wet bar areas, come with microwaves, toasters, coffeemakers, fridges, and minibars, allowing us to store food as well as heat it for light, readymade meals. Plus, there are even two duplex suites in the Townhouse section for those who want to indulge.
Aside from the rooms, and the stately entrance, the rest of the hotel is amazing too. For instance, guests receive complimentary memberships to the New York Health & Racquet Club close by. So, we could work out, swim, and indulge in leisure activities too.

San Carlos Hotel

Imagine a hotel with four-star amenities that don’t break the bank; that’s the San Carlos Hotel New York for you. This Midtown Manhattan hotel was perfectly located for us to explore the best that NYC had to offer. We had the choice of 147 rooms and suites, all of which offered spacious layouts and luxurious amenities. One of them, which was the highlight for us, was the convenient kitchenette with a mini-fridge, microwave, and sink, as well as room service from Spice Symphony restaurant.
Since we wanted to splurge on our NYC vacation, we chose the Garden Terrace Penthouse Suite, which boasted a massive wraparound, outdoor terrace with stunning views of the Manhattan skyline. Besides the floor-to-ceiling windows, lovely living room, and plush bedroom, the place also had a dining room and a wet bar, it also had a kitchenette with a Keurig coffeemaker, dishware, utensils, mini-fridge, and microwave.

Hotel 32 32 NoMad

Finding a boutique hotel in NoMad with luxurious perks was sheer luck. We loved the Hotel 32 32 NoMad, where the accommodations felt like home after a day of traveling around the city. While rooms ranged from studios to penthouse suites, a few of them even had perks like a fully equipped kitchen, not even a kitchenette! The smallest room to have a kitchen was the Full Superior Studio, which we’d not seen in any other hotel, let alone an NYC one.
Our room, the Queen Superior with a Courtyard, was slightly different. Firstly, it had a full kitchen with a mini-fridge, a coffeemaker complimentary coffee pods, a microwave, dining and cooking utensils, and even a stovetop. What’s more, it even came with a 200 sq ft private patio, which, by NYC standards, was a luxury like no other. The modern furnishings, artwork, deluxe bath products, and free Wi-Fi made our stay all the more comfortable and better. Did we mention the minibars, slippers, and fluffy robes? Yep.
The location of the hotel couldn’t be better; it was within walking distance of Grand Central, Times Square, and the Empire State Building. What more could we want?

The Sherry-Netherland

Staying on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan has always been the dream, and when we were able to do it on our recent New York vacation, it was all the better. We’re talking about the Sherry-Netherland, a grand Art-Deco hotel in a 38-storey apartment building. We were awed immediately, what with the palatial marble lobby, a 1920s frescoed ceiling, and grand arches.
The design of the rooms and suites is unique here, as some apartments are part of the rental pool. Besides traditional décor, they all boasted period fixtures and hardware, tall ceilings, modern creature comforts, and lots of space, especially by New York standards. What we loved the most, however, was the fact that the suites began at a generous 750 sq ft and included a kitchenette, all in the very heart of Manhattan. Even our basic, entry-level suite, the Interior Suite, had a kitchenette with not just a fridge and a microwave, but even a two-burner stovetop. So, we were able to cook meals and especially enjoy a hot cup of coffee whenever we wanted. The rest of the suite was no different, with a luxury marble bath, free Wi-Fi, and even complimentary mineral water and soda.

Hotel Beacon

Best family hotel. We’re usually accustomed to less-than-grand hotel rooms, so the homely, residential-type, but luxurious studios and suites at Hotel Beacon amazed and delighted us. That’s because all spacious studios and suites come with fully equipped kitchenettes, even the most basic, entry-level Executive King Studios. Since we wanted a little more space than a studio, we chose the 620-sq-ft Queen Suite, which not only had a bedroom but also a separate living room with a sofa bed. However, the highlight was the fully-equipped kitchenette, which had a full-size fridge, Keurig coffeemaker, microwave, sink, and even a two-burner stovetop, along with utensils, dishware, and lots of storage space. So, we were able to whip up quick meals whenever the kids were hungry, which was all the time! This also helped us save on food expenses.
This hotel, which is one of the best family hotels in NYC, has an excellent Upper West Side location. It’s not only next door to the Beacon Theater, but also close to the Lincoln Center, Central Park, and the American Museum of Natural History. A small but well-equipped fitness center and the Beacon Bar wrap up the facilities here.

The Lowell

Best boutique hotel. Tucked away on a quiet side street on the Upper East Side, The Lowell is an antique and art-filled boutique oasis. With just 74 rooms and suites that were beautifully designed by a former White House decorator, our experience was the most memorable and unforgettable.
Even the smallest rooms were a spacious 400 sq ft, which was very spacious by the Big Apple’s standards. We loved the pale blue and soft neutral color scheme, which perfectly complemented the wood-burning fireplaces, the polished oak floors, and the fresh flowers. Our one-bedroom suite even had a kitchen, which differed by suite size, but still had a full-sized fridge, a dishwasher, and even an elaborate minibar with spirits, snacks, and cocktail mixers. So, we were completely equipped to even host a party right in our very suite! Moreover, the city views were absolutely lovely, especially at twilight.
“We loved the Lowell and our spacious and elegant suite, where we could cook meals to our heart’s content!”
WOW Travel
Multiple bars and restaurants, some of the Upper West Side’s best, a fitness center, a breakfast salon, and a lounge only for hotel guests round up the amenities here.

Hyatt House New York Chelsea

Best chain hotel. We were looking for a reliable chain hotel for our extended stay in the city, and we were lucky enough to chance upon the Hyatt House New York/Chelsea. This extended-stay hotel in Manhattan’s prime Chelsea neighborhood was perfect for our exploration visit to the Big Apple. We loved the elegant rooms and suites at this hotel, especially since they came with the most fabulous views and — get this — fully equipped kitchens! Our corner suite boasted gorgeous wraparound floor-to-ceiling windows with spectacular views, but it was the kitchen that we loved the most. It had a coffeemaker with complimentary coffee pods, a two-burner stovetop, a chimney, a sink, a microwave, a dishwasher, and a full-sized fridge. We had a lot of fun cooking meals here since the kitchen island was right next to it. So, we’d all hang out together and have a lot of fun.
We loved other aspects of the hotel too, besides the stay. The rooftop terrace was particularly a luxury, especially in the heart of Manhattan, and offered lovely views of the city. What’s more, we even enjoyed free breakfast every day that we stayed here, which would fuel us for the whole day. Finally, thanks to free Wi-Fi, we were able to stay connected during the duration of our stay.

Most luxurious. Imagine the rooms being so spacious and swanky that you wonder whether you’re still in New York City. We’re talking about The Langham, New York, Fifth Avenue, which sits just a few blocks from the Empire State Building and also happens to be one of the best hotels in NYC with views. Straddling the line between lifestyle living and old-school ornate, the Langham boasted a sophisticated and luxurious vibe perfect for our extended stay in the city.
We loved the spacious rooms and suites filled with natural light and with large bathrooms. Besides all the space, they boasted a whole lot of extra features, too, which included kitchenettes. However, what made the 14 one-bedrooms suites so special was that they not only had washer/dryers but also Empire State building views and full kitchens — Miele appliances, microwaves, full fridges, stovetops, et al. Our family double-double room with a kitchen was perfect for our family of four people. So, it was like a luxurious retreat for our entire family.
Multiple award-winning restaurants, a gym and wellness area, and excellent service by a warm and friendly staff make this hotel just simply perfect.

Where to Stay in New York City?
New York City is huge, with five boroughs across three discrete pieces of land and hundreds of neighborhoods within. So, deciding which neighborhood we wanted to stay in was very important, depending on our stay preference and what we wanted to do during our stay.
Since we wanted to explore, see, and do a little bit of everything, Midtown Manhattan is one of the perfect neighborhoods. This neighborhood is a melting pot of cultures, cuisines, and sights, making it perfect for first-time visitors as well as families like ours. Besides being a prime neighborhood for sightseeing and activities, it also had a plethora of dining and drinking choices, shopping avenues, and many excellent choices for NYC family hotels. Secondly, there’s Lower Manhattan, a.k.a. Downtown, located just south of Midtown. It’s famous for its amazing nightlife, but according to us, it was fantastic to explore during the day too. Since it was a blend of many diverse cuisines and cultures, it was perfect for culture vultures like us.
Since Downtown and Midtown aren’t exactly inexpensive, we also sought out cheaper neighborhoods, like East Village and Astoria. While East Village was eclectic to the hilt with a great food and drinking scene, the culturally diverse Astoria was equally enchanting.
