Tucked along the Bloemgracht, it has this lovely history that started back in the 60s when the founder simply offered his couch to travelers. Decades later, it’s grown into a boutique hotel, but it still holds onto that same cozy, welcoming spirit.
Staying here put us right in the middle of the Jordaan, which quickly became our favorite part of Amsterdam. The leafy canals, quirky shops, and buzzing cafes were all just steps away. Inside, it was stylish but down-to-earth. We loved grabbing free coffee and tea in the lobby, chatting with other guests, and fueling up on the breakfast spread made with fresh local goodies.
Our Large Double Room overlooked the canal, and honestly, that view alone was enough to have us rebook this room. It was snug but thoughtfully put together. This hotel is just over 10 minutes’ walk from Central Station and not much farther from the Dam. We loved how we could dive into the buzz of the nightlife one moment and hop on a tram to the museums the next, all without breaking a sweat.
Despite its location, though, what impressed us was the inside. Downstairs, the cocktail bar felt like an eccentric friend’s living room. It had Delft tiles, oddball prints, mismatched vintage chairs, even a playful fake monkey peeking out from a corner. It was cozy and quirky at the same time. Better yet, it doubles as a reception and breakfast spot!
Upstairs, the rooms are just as full of personality. Every room has its own style, from sleek Dutch design to over-the-top baroque complete with chandeliers. Our bathroom was small but clever, with heated floors and Rituals toiletries. Meanwhile, the little extras like the fridge with local treats, the espresso machine, and the white-noise machine showed that the hotel is super thoughtful.

Just a few minutes’ walk from Amsterdam Central Station, we found ourselves stepping into Hotel V Nesplein. The mix of vintage furniture, bare leather chairs, and those moody hanging bulbs gave it this cool-but-cozy energy. Our Superior Double Room had so much character too: parquet floors, a big king-sized bed, and a walk-in rain shower.
Thanks to The Lobby, we were always excited to start each day. Instead of a rushed buffet, we got spoiled with buttery croissants, stacks of pancakes, and plenty of cheeses and meats. The place didn’t just shine at breakfast either, as its relaxed vibe made us return for dinner one night, and it ended up being one of the best meals of our trip.
We also loved how easy the hotel made everything feel. The front desk staff gave us a few local tips that led us to spots we would’ve never found on our own. And after a day of canals, bikes, and museums, we would end everything by sinking into the library’s armchairs or sipping a drink on the terrace.

Most Quirky. Hotel The Exchange threw us right into Amsterdam’s creative heartbeat. Just steps from Central Station and Dam Square, with the old Stock Exchange right across the street, we couldn’t have asked for a better base. Within minutes, we were already strolling the canals, poking around the Negen Straatjes boutiques, and hopping trams to the museums.
The real deal, though, is inside. This place is a wild collaboration between fashion students and designers, so nothing feels ordinary. Chairs wear burlap “outfits,” walls are tiled backwards, and a giant necklace made of glass lamps dangles across a landing. We laughed at how sketchy the entrance looked, as it’s just a plain street door and a tiny reception booth. However, once we stepped in, it was like opening the door to another world.
Our King Suite gave us a comfy little sanctuary. We had a private entrance, a cozy sitting area with a coffee machine, and a sleek bathroom with a great shower. Our favorite part, though, was our lovely private balcony. It wasn’t flashy luxury, but it had just the right mix of quirk and comfort.

Most Romantic. The Canal House is set right on the Keizersgracht, Amsterdam’s grandest canal, and the hotel is made up of three old merchant houses that still carry all their 17th-century charm. With its ballroom, garden, and even a tiny teahouse, we’re glad we stumbled onto a hidden side of the city most travelers never get to see.
Inside, the vibe was pure magic. One wall holds an Old Master painting, the next a bold Marcel Wanders piece. Our room was just as moody and glamorous, with velvet, silk wallpaper, and little purple accents. The rain shower, Green & Spring toiletries, and even a kit of “forgotten essentials” made us feel so looked after.
Breakfast in the Great Room was simple but so cozy that we always looked for an excuse to have a second coffee. Later in the day, we’d slip into the bar for a glass of wine before heading back out into the canals. And our favorite hideaway? The Summer House in the garden. It’s a snug little spot for two, where we spent a rainy afternoon curled up with books and hot drinks.

We almost missed Hotel 717 at first, as it blends right into the row of 17th-century canal houses. Although low-key from the outside, the inside is a whole different conversation. It reminded us of a grand home. Think high ceilings, marble floors, and crackling fireplaces.
This hotel offers 23 beautifully decorated rooms, and our Executive Room came with silk wallpaper, a marble sink, and a queen bed we melted into. On top of that, having butler service on call also made us feel completely spoiled. Meanwhile, the in-room massage was the cherry on top.
The Livingroom quickly became our favorite spot. It’s part co-working space, part restaurant, but it never felt stuffy. Chef Jacob Jan Boerma’s menus were a delight, especially the generous breakfast.

Sitting on Dam Square, the Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam is just steps from the Royal Palace and a short walk to the Anne Frank House. Our bed faced the square, so mornings started with sunlight pouring in and evenings ended with the square glowing below. A favorite detail? The sliding wall to the bathroom. There was something almost indulgent about sinking into the tub while still gazing out at all the action.
After long days of exploring, the hotel’s spa was exactly what we needed. We didn’t book the treatment, but we did use the sauna, gym, and infrared cabin. Amsterdam might not scream “relaxation” at first, but this place proves you can enjoy the buzz of the city and still find a quiet corner to recharge.

We knew we were off to a good start the second we walked into The Hendrick’s Hotel. Situated right in the heart of Amsterdam, it made exploring the city ridiculously easy. Within minutes, we were out exploring the canals, stumbling on shops, and heading toward the big attractions without ever needing a tram.

Staying at The Dylan Amsterdam, we could transport ourselves from the canal to the hotel’s quiet courtyard effortlessly. Also, did you know that it once stood as a grand 17th-century theatre before being reborn as a hotel?
Our room had that cozy loft charm with wooden beams and a freestanding tub that begged for a long soak. It was like we were having a countryside escape, but with all the modern comforts. We’re talking about a soft queen bed, Illy coffee at our fingertips, and little Aesop touches.
The food sealed the deal here for us. Dinner at Michelin-starred Vinkeles was easily one of the best meals of our trip. Every course was paired with wine that somehow made it taste even better.
