Housed in a former diamond factory, the Sir Albert Hotel successfully charmed us with its character. The redesign by Alon Baranowitz and Irene Kronenberg blends the building’s industrial past with a warm, contemporary atmosphere. Everywhere we looked, there were thoughtful details. We’re talking about quirky art pieces and sleek Dutch and Italian design that gave the hotel a stylish yet inviting personality.
Our room had the same sense of detail, with copper-toned curtains, colorful rugs, and shelves stacked with art books and magazines. The comforts were spot on too. We loved the crisp Egyptian cotton sheets and Illy espresso machine for our morning coffee. Waking up to views of Amsterdam’s famous narrow houses outside the window made the stay feel even more memorable.

The location couldn’t be better. Set right in the Museum Quarter, we were just steps from the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, and plenty of cozy cafés. Perfectly perched along the Amstel River, De L’Europe Amsterdam has been dazzling guests since 1896. The building itself sits on the site of Amsterdam’s very first inn, and since being acquired by the Heineken family in 1950, it has remained a striking ode to Dutch heritage. Set along the Herengracht, one of the city’s most iconic canals, the hotel stretches across five historic canal houses, placing us right in the heart of Amsterdam’s charm. We stayed in one of the 88 rooms, each of which has a pared-back elegance. Think panelled walls, gold accents, and rain showers that make mornings feel indulgent. Guests also get access to the gym, while those booking the Grand Suite are treated to extras like a sauna, valet service, and even a private lounge.
Of course, no stay here is complete without diving into the food scene. The hotel has two restaurants and two bars, and we loved how they each offered something different. VonOost is the star of the show with its inventive tasting menus and intimate Chef’s Table experience. On the other hand, Spring Café Brasserie quickly became our go-to for laid-back meals and snacks throughout the day, especially when we wanted something lighter.

Best Eco-Friendly. When it comes to boutique hotels in Amsterdam, we found the Ruby Emma Hotel to be one of the best value-for-money stays we’ve had.
