Yellowstone Valley Inn is a treasure. Our experience at this lodge was extraordinary. The picturesque view of the Shoshone River from the Riverfront Motel immediately caught our eye. Our room’s rustic decor and essential amenities like TV and free WiFi offered a cozy retreat after a day of exploration. The welcoming staff made us feel at home, adding to the overall pleasant experience.

A standout feature was the heated pool and hot tub, the only ones in the Wapiti Valley. Whether soaking alone or with other guests, it was the perfect way to unwind and relax after an adventurous day. Dining at the Yellowstone Valley Inn Restaurant was an authentic Western culinary experience. The delicious home-cooked meals served 5 nights a week were a treat. Besides, they also have an extensive selection of local draft beers and wines. With additional amenities like Alisa’s Coffee Bar, a fitness center, and a public laundry, Yellowstone Valley Inn surpassed all our expectations.

Alpine Motel

Best location. When we stayed at the Alpine Motel in the heart of downtown West Yellowstone, we knew it wasn’t just another cheap hotel. Just two blocks from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park, the location was unbeatable for our daily park adventures. Brian and Patty, the owners, greeted us with smiles and shared insider tips on exploring the stunning landscapes of Southwest Montana.

Our room was spotless and equipped with everything we needed. There was a comfortable bed, an HDTV with DirecTV, and fast, free Wi-Fi. The air conditioning was a lifesaver during the warm summer days, and the in-room refrigerator kept our drinks fresh. Besides, we also have access to a microwave and complimentary hot beverages in the lobby.

We found it incredibly convenient to explore local attractions from the motel. We walked to the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center, enjoyed performances at the Playmill Theater, and delved into the history of the Museum of the Yellowstone. For those traveling with family or friends, the Alpine Motel offers larger accommodations, including a two-room suite and a kitchen unit.

The Scout INN

The Scout INN is a cozy retreat in the vibrant heart of Cody, Wyoming. This locally owned and operated hotel promises the ultimate comfort and hospitality. During our visit, we immediately liked its perfect location. A short 6-block walk took us to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West Museum. Besides, the Cody Nite Rodea is just a quick 3-mile drive away. We think it’s an ideal spot for both adventure and relaxation.

Surrounded by excellent dining options, bars, shops, and entertainment, everything we needed was within easy reach. Plus, the proximity to Yellowstone Regional Airport, only 1.9 miles away, made our travel plans seamless. The rooms at The Scout INN are equipped with all the essentials. Those include air conditioning, a microwave, a mini-fridge, and a coffee station.

After a day of exploring, I appreciated the comfort of our room’s seating area and the upgraded flat-screen TV with cable. The free WiFi kept us connected and entertained.

Comfort Inn at Buffalo Bill Village

Best for solo travelers. Entering the Comfort Inn at Buffalo Bill Village feels like a warm welcome after a day of travel. This hotel is located just off Sheridan Avenue and has easy access to Cody’s top attractions. Our visit was delightful. Our room was a sanctuary of comfort. The premium bedding provided a restful night’s sleep, while the coffee maker was a handy perk in the early mornings.

With a dedicated workspace and complimentary WiFi, staying productive was simple. A microwave and refrigerator were available upon request, though the complimentary hot breakfast each morning was a highlight in itself. One of our favorite features was access to Buffalo Bill’s Resort pool, perfect for cooling off and relaxing. The hotel’s extensive amenities didn’t end there. The valet laundry service kept our clothes fresh, and the multilingual staff was always ready with friendly assistance and local tips.

Yellowstone Village Inn

Yellowstone Village Inn is a beautiful family-operated hotel managed with care by three generations. This is one of our favorite cheap hotels around Yellowstone National Park. Upon arrival, we were immediately surrounded by the peaceful setting on the outskirts of Gardiner, just a mile from the North Entrance to Yellowstone National Park. The expansive front lawn became a favorite spot, where we frequently spotted elk, deer, birds, and even bunnies. It was a dream come true for nature enthusiasts.

Our room was so comfy. It featured air conditioning, complimentary WiFi, and an impressive level of cleanliness that reflected the inn’s high standards. The private bathroom was modern, complete with complimentary toiletries and a hairdryer. Fresh bed linens and towels were also provided.

Mornings were blissful as we savored coffee at the picnic tables dotting the property. The majestic surroundings and serene ambiance provided the perfect backdrop for relaxation. Afternoons were spent soaking up the sun on the terrace, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.

Last summer, we had the pleasure of staying at the Yellowstone Gateway Inn. It’s one of the most excellent cheap places to stay around Yellowstone National Park. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the interior. We were greeted warmly and shown to our spacious room, which felt more like a high-end apartment than a standard hotel room. Our suite featured a fully-equipped kitchen, ideal for cooking our own meals after a day of exploring. There was also a separate living room with comfortable sofa beds and a 55” flat-screen HDTV.

Our stay at the Super 8 by Wyndham Gardiner was effortless. Situated on U.S. Highway 89, this hotel’s prime spot at the park’s north entrance made diving into the park so easy. We enjoyed a complimentary light breakfast with coffee, tea, and juice each morning. The free WiFi was a nice addition, allowing us to plan our park exploration. Sipping our morning coffee on the deck, with the majestic mountain views all around, was perfect.

The hotel’s array of amenities caters to diverse needs, featuring pet-friendly rooms, accessible and non-smoking options, and even guest laundry facilities. The ample free parking was handy, and the hotel also provided outdoor outlets for larger vehicles like RVs and buses.

After a full day of exploration, we returned to our comfy room each evening, complete with a flat-screen TV and daily housekeeping. With a 24-hour front desk and the flexibility of early check-in and late check-out, the Super 8 by Wyndham Gardiner made our Yellowstone adventure super smooth.

Best minimalist. Hampton Inn Cody is where adventure meets convenience in the heart of Cody, Wyoming. Positioned along US-16, this hotel is an ideal base camp for exploring Yellowstone National Park. We also have easy access to Buffalo Bill Dam & Visitor Center and Buffalo Bill Center of the West.

From the moment we arrived, the team was at our service, ensuring every aspect of our stay exceeded expectations. And when we stepped into the lobby, it was filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. We felt instantly at ease. Then we headed straight to our room, which was equipped with modern amenities, plush bedding, and free WiFi.

The next day, we took a refreshing dip in the indoor pool. And in the evening, after a day of exploration, we recovered and relaxed in the hot tub. Keeping up with our fitness routine was also easy with the hotel’s well-appointed gym. Each morning before exploring, we always started our day with a complimentary hot breakfast featuring an array of delicious options.

Best for group travel. Elkhorn Cabins and Inn was established in 1948 by Lon and Grace Hadley. This family-run motel and cabins have been a cherished part of the community for over 60 years. Now, this lodge is under new ownership but with the same commitment to genuine hospitality. It’s a popular cheap lodging option in Yellowstone, and most locals will recommend it.

This charming single-story motel offers snug cabins and inviting rooms. Besides the national park, we also visited the National Geographic IMAX Theater, just a short walk from the hotel’s front door.

Our experience at this hotel was excellent. Our spacious room came with a flat-screen TV and a work desk. After a day of exploring the park’s majestic landscapes and wildlife, we spent our time relaxing on our private patio while still surrounded by a beautiful view.

We embarked on an unforgettable escape to Jackson Hole’s hidden gem, The Rockwell Inn. Tucked away amidst the picturesque landscapes of Wyoming, this charming hotel promises excellence. We could recognize their attention to detail from the moment we stepped inside. We loved the mountain-inspired decor. Every corner exuded warmth and tranquility. What we loved about this hotel was how they offered plenty of special discounts.

Convenience is key at The Rockwell Inn. Our room came with coffee-making amenities. With that, we never have to worry about running out of coffee to drink. And in the morning, we enjoyed a delightful breakfast buffet the hotel always prepared. Some days, we were too tired and wanted to watch TV after a long day outside. The hot tub was definitely a highlight. It was a nice thing to have to help us recover after a long walk.

Gray Wolf Inn

Our stay at the Gray Wolf Inn was a wonderful experience. They offered the comforts of home with all the amenities of a hotel. Recently renovated and boasting a prestigious AAA 3-Diamond rating, this lodge is it a popular choice among travelers from around the globe.

We opted for a Deluxe King room, which was impressively spacious. It featured a king bed and a sleeper sofa, perfect for relaxing after a long day of adventures. The room also came with a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker, which added a convenient touch for enjoying snacks and morning beverages. The 49-inch flat-screen satellite TV provided great entertainment for our evenings.

Family suites are an excellent option for families or longer stays. We toured a one-bedroom Family Suite, which felt more like a cozy apartment than a typical hotel room. It included two queen beds, a living area with a sofa sleeper, and a fully equipped kitchen with an oven. The Two-Bedroom Family Suite offers even more space, with a queen bed in each bedroom.

When visiting Yellowstone, we can choose from 4 main areas. The first one is West Yellowstone, Montana. This bustling town offers a wide range of accommodations, from budget motels to more upscale lodges. You’ll find plenty of restaurants, shops, and activities to enjoy when you’re not exploring the park. The Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center is a popular attraction here. Next is Gardiner, Montana. Gardiner is a charming town located at the North Entrance of the park. It’s known for its rustic charm and scenic views of the Yellowstone River. Is it better to stay inside or outside Yellowstone?

Staying inside the park offers easy access to sights and wildlife but with fewer amenities and higher costs. Those hotels are definitely not budget-friendly! We actually prefer to stay at budget hotels near Yellowstone National Park around the North, West, or East Entrance. Other than the cheap prices, we also have more interesting spots to explore around the towns.

Can you go to Yellowstone without a car?
