In May 2012, Kirsten Dunst wore a floral-accented headband from D&G’s fall collection at the Cannes Film Festival – and seems to have reignited the trend of flower crowns. Since then, floral crowns have been everywhere, from red carpets to weddings, transforming into one of the most popular bridal accessories today. These natural headpieces first popped up as ethereal alternatives to veils in bohemian wedding ceremonies. Soon enough, women everywhere were customizing these colorful floral halos to suit every occasion, wedding and otherwise. When it comes to the floral crown, Etsy is where we found a treasure trove that ranges from chic and whimsical to sophisticated and elegant.
What’s more, they were perfect for formal and casual occasions, could be worn everywhere, from pre-wedding photoshoots to Coachella, and were as fashionable as they were well-designed. So, if you’re itching to get your hands on one of these unique and gorgeous pieces of head accessories, check out our detailed guide to flower crowns on Etsy.
Artistry by Wallflower Woodland Thistle Crown
6
There’s something mysteriously beautiful about autumnal wildflowers. That’s why we loved the handmade Artistry by Wallflower Woodland Thistle Crown from Etsy. This gorgeous and sweet boho flower crown combined small pale rose and russet-colored blooms with blush thistles. What’s more, it had sprigs of faux rosemary, heather, and wildflowers as the perfect accents. We loved the arrangement, which looked neither jumbled up nor carefully arranged, resulting in a beguiling effect. Finally, they all sat on a thin yet sturdy headband that was lined with pretty purple Autumn leaves, making for a stunning headpiece.
“We’ve always loved the idea of donning autumnal flowers on our head – and this crown was perfect.”

H Botanics Weddings Whimsical Forest Herbs Flower Crown

We love the boho style in just about anything, whether it’s outfits or even jewelry and accessories. Enter the H Botanics Weddings Whimsical Forest Herbs Flower Crown, which allowed us to look like Grecian goddesses on our Europe tour. This crown featured a crown and hairpins, which together allowed us to get the ‘branching’ style we loved. The floral part of the crown featured dried gypsophila flowers, which were yellowish in hue due to being dried – and that was part of their charm. What’s more, they were interspersed with artificial green leaves and forest herbs and came with an easy-tie floral wreath silk ribbon, which we could adjust around our heads. The best bit? We had size choices too for both adults and children, as well as the option to get a boutonniere.
Pros
- The crown is made from gorgeous dried gypsophila flowers.
- It’s interspersed with artificial green leaves and herbs to make it all the more beautiful.
- It came with hair pins for styling.
Cons
- Shipping times are long.

Sunflowers are probably the original floral crowns, aren’t they? There’s something about these bright, happy, yellow-colored flowers that immediately make you want to break out into a smile. That’s why we loved the Boho Halo Company Sunflower & Daisy Flower Crown. Firstly, we loved that this floral crown came in four sizes, i.e., for newborns, babies, children aged 2-12 years, and adults. So, no matter the age of the pretty people in the group, there was a headband for everyone! This enchanting rustic flower crown featured preserved baby’s breath and greenery twirled around a twisted bark-covered vine. On it sat the sunflower halo adorned with various daisies, sunflowers, floral buttons, wheat, and yarrow. Wrapping things up – literally – were the two small loops at the back, which could be tied with crochet lace, satin ribbons, or even jute twine – we had the option for that, too!
Pros
- This crown offered choices in not just sizes but also the ribbons to be tied at the back.
- It’s handmade and unique.
- It’s made from a mix of preserved and faux flowers.
Cons
- Shipping takes a little while, but not too much.

How To Choose The Best Floral Crowns on Etsy?
Choosing the right flowers
The first and most important thing when it comes to choosing flower crowns is choosing the kinds of flowers in the crown. Many kinds of flowers discolor and wilt quickly without water, so we chose blooms that have the best chance of surviving throughout the day. In order to achieve that, we chose the hardiest blooms that could sit out of water for a really long time. These include the likes of spirea, freesia, spray roses, and orchids, with the greenery including Italian ruscus and seeded eucalyptus. And if used properly, dainty white baby’s breath is also a great choice.
At the same time, we avoided temperamental and sensitive flowers that were more prone to yellowing and wilting. These include gardenias, hydrangeas, peonies, and poppies.
One of the safest things to do is to have a backup plan: two separate crowns!
Crown Size and Placement
The size and placement of the flower crown were the next things to consider, and this largely depended on personal preference. While some like the headpieces at the back of the head, others want the blooms to fall across their foreheads. So, while there’s no right or wrong, do consider your hairstyle, i.e., updos, braids, wavy open, or half ponytail, before zeroing in on a flower crown.
Fit
After size and placement, everything comes down to the fit of the crown. We measured the dimensions of our heads and then looked for crowns based on these measurements. Even then, there’s nothing that a few strategically placed bobby pins didn’t solve, going a long way in securing the crown on our heads.

How long do flower crowns last?
While that largely depends on the kind of flowers used, with basic care, floral crowns can last from 1 to 5 days without drying out.
How many flowers do I need for a flower crown?
The basic rule of thumb is to have one to two larger flowers and three to five smaller flowers for use as accents. Using too many large flowers will cause the crown to become too oversized or heavy. Also, choose some green stems as fillers.
Can anyone wear a flower crown?
Absolutely! Floral crowns aren’t just for brides – or even women. Anyone can wear them regardless of the occasion, age, and gender.
