The land on which the town of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, sits, is the land of the Osage people. Despite protecting it from neighboring tribes, they allowed people across tribes — hostile neighbors or otherwise— to bring their ill folks onto their land. Why? The natural springs that the land sits on are believed to have healing properties. This benevolent historic gesture of goodwill continues in present-day Eureka Springs, which is touted as the ‘Gay Capital of the Ozarks.’ It’s not surprising, given how many options for a gay resort Eureka Springs had. Since the town is also known for its Victorian architecture, we found a bunch of utterly gorgeous gay-friendly historic hotels too. Plus, the city itself is listed on the National Register of Historic Places! What’s more, these stays ranged across budgets, locations, and vibes, but they all had one thing in common — they were all extremely welcoming and gay-friendly.
Clearly, this Bible Belt LGBTQ oasis has been one of our favorite gay destinations in the country, especially since it’s also been touted as one of the best small gay-friendly towns. Publications have gone as far ahead as to call it the “gayest small town in America.” It’s not surprising, given that it’s also notable for being Arkansas’ first city to issue the first same-sex marriage license in Arkansas way back in 2014. That, combined with an array of activities and things to see, makes it sound just as it is, a diverse town. Here’s a guide to staying in this gay-friendly Arkansas oasis.

The Wanderoo Lodge
11
Best gay-owned. Owned and operated by gay couple Ethan and David, the outdoor adventure lodge of Wanderoo Lodge was one of our favorite stays in the heart of Eureka Springs. A Quasar Progress Pride flag flies outside the lodge all through the year, which is an indication of the open-mindedness of the owners and the wonderful vibe here. The former motel is now the town’s “front porch,” which welcomes everyone from LGBTQ families to off-duty drag performers and even leather-clad bikers. The property not only has rooms, but even the Gravel Bar, a restaurant, and even a shared lounge. The magic happened around the fire pit, where we enjoyed an alfresco barbeque dinner and swapped stories with fellow gay travelers. Thanks to the free Wi-Fi across the property, we could plan our itineraries for the days ahead.
When it comes to the rooms and suites, they were all very comfortable and very un-motel-like, for those who are anxious. What’s more, they all had private bathrooms with complimentary bath products, coffee machines, and flatscreen TVs. Our room even had a balcony and looked out to the verdure surrounding the property.

1905 Basin Park Hotel

Since we love historic properties, we decided to stay for one night at the 1905 Basin Park Hotel. This historic hotel claims to be the most entertaining in town and practically towers over every other building structure in Downtown Eureka Springs. That’s because the hotel is said to be haunted, but the hotel embraces rather than shuns this so-called ill-repute. It even provided an underground downtown tour to us for free, which was a great way to begin our stay in the city.
On the inside, it’s famous for its luxe amenities, which we were able to enjoy. Our favorite was Spa1905, which allowed us to rejuvenate and relax in a tranquil atmosphere. We didn’t have to go far for food too, thanks to the Balcony Bar and Restaurant which provided all meals. While they only had a coffee service in the lobby on all days, they included a delicious continental breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays.
Aside from free Wi-Fi being available in all rooms and suites, they also had coffee-making facilities, cable TVs, plush beds, and modern bathrooms. We loved the bright accents in the historic rooms, especially our deluxe room with a spa bath that made us feel that we were in Eureka Springs.

Romance is the name of the game at the gay-friendly AAA Four Diamond Christian B&B Angel at Rose Hall. We loved the elegantly restored Victorian Mansion that was perfect for our romantic getaway in Eureka Springs. Owners Darrell and Susan Morgan were very warm, welcoming, and friendly, and answered all our questions about the town and what to do. Our days would begin with sumptuous gourmet breakfasts in their spacious breakfast room. Despite changing daily, there was always coffee, tea, fruit juices, dessert, meat, scones, potatoes, a main hot entree, and fresh seasonal fruit.
When it comes to staying, we had the choice of five very romantic king suites, which made staying here very intimate and exclusive. What’s more, they all had private furnished patios, private ensuite bathrooms, and two-person Jacuzzi tubs. Since we’d opted for their special anniversary/honeymoon package, we were even treated to breakfast right in our room! Romance doesn’t get any better than this.

Best gay-friendly treehouse hotel. Imagine staying in luxury amongst trees; that’s The Grand Treehouse Resort for you. This wasn’t your usual gay-friendly hotel, as the rooms were upscale yet adorable treehouses tucked high in the treeline. But don’t let that deter you, as the digs were far from rustic. If anything, they had all the possible comforts we could of! We had the choice of six rooms, all of which were air-conditioned for comfort. What’s more, they were all very spacious and boasted plush beds, seating areas, windows, kitchenettes, seating areas, dining areas, and flatscreen TVs, just like regular hotel rooms. There were even private bathrooms attached to them all, complete with towels and hairdryers and whatnot!
Since this is an outdoorsy property, the focus is on the outdoors, with activities like hiking and biking on offer. But that didn’t mean that we couldn’t relax, as there was a hot tub and a lovely sun terrace on the property. On days when we weren’t exploring the town, we’d lounge here, reading, drinking, and eating. Free Wi-Fi, a garden, and free private parking round up the amenities here.

Hidden Springs B&B

Most romantic. Another romantic retreat in Eureka Springs (the town is full of them, really) is the award-winning Hidden Springs Bed & Breakfast. Tucked in the historic 1902 Tobe Smith House, the gay-friendly B&B is famous for its many package options, with the “Romantic Rendezvous Package” that we chose being especially popular. Since we had the choice of just five suites, cottages, and a carriage house, staying here felt like we were living in a rich friend’s well-kept home. What’s more, all rooms had private bathrooms, plush beds, linens, and the like. The real winners were the for-two hot tubs in three of the rooms, which were perfect for a romantic sojourn. Our room even had a balcony with chairs overlooking the greenery, where we’d enjoy our morning cup of coffee and each other’s company.
We loved the rest of the B&B too, especially interacting with owner, host, and chef John, who’d tell us all about the history of the house and cook us fantastic breakfasts. He’d even bring our breakfasts with fruits, tea, juices, bread, quiches, and apple pancakes to our room!
We’d highly recommend checking out the different packages here. Moreover, the inn has a lot of extras, including tours, massages, and even floral arrangements for those celebrating something special. Check out all the extras and specials.

Magnetic Valley Resort

Best clothing-optional resort. We were looking for an excellent men-only gay resort in Eureka Springs, AR, and what better place than the Magnetic Valley Resort? Situated on lush acres around five minutes from Downtown, this place offered a private getaway for gentlemen from all walks of life. We loved interacting with hosts Charlie Thomas and husband Alvin Byrd, who are also long-time Eureka Springs residents. They even recommended the best places to see, things to do, and delicacies to eat around.
The clothing-optional resort was no less amazing, and the hosts and the staff made us comfortable right from the get-go. Our favorite place was the gorgeous pool area, which was one of the most unique spaces we’d ever seen. While the resort stood on one side, the verdant grounds stretched out on the other side of the pool. So, we were able to soak in mesmerizing views when we swam and even lounged on the daybeds with cocktails and eats from the onsite cafe. What’s more, there were even waterfall showers and hot tubs to the side. There was even a gift shop where we could buy gifts, supplies, and any last-minute needs. Since we were staying the weekend, the resort was packed with guests and even day-trippers, with lots of gorgeous people by the pool. What fun!
We were able to choose from a vast array of accommodations that ranged from single-person shared dorm rooms and private double rooms to even campsites and RV spots. Our room had a comfy bed, a ceiling fan, a seating area with two chairs, windows for ventilation, and a private bathroom with linens and bath products. What more could we ask for?

Rock Cottage Gardens B&B

Most luxurious. We wanted to stay away from the town’s bustle and yet close to it, which is why we chose the utterly charming gay-friendly Rock Cottage Gardens B&B. We felt like we’d been transported to the English countryside, and enjoyed a luxurious, laidback, and private stay here. Proud owner/innkeeper Bruce Greek gave us a fantastic tour, which is when we also met the other enthusiastic innkeeper and housekeeper. Together, they made us feel right at home and made our stay memorable, answering questions about the town, what to explore, and where to eat.
“We loved our indulgent stay at Rock Gardens B&B. The hosts were amazing, the vibe was gay-friendly, and the rooms were amazing.”
WOW Travel
What impressed us was the USD 30 credit we got every day for hearty breakfasts at Myrtie Mae’s, a mere two-minute walk from the B&B. What’s more, the inn even provided us with a gift bag with local coffee, a Keurig coffeemaker, and free bottled water in our cottage. With five cottages and a two-bedroom bungalow as choices, we were thrilled to be staying here. All of them had private ensuite bathrooms with jacuzzis and spa robes, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, and Keurig coffeemakers were also standard so we could plan our next day in the town.

How amazing would it be to stay in the heart of a walkable town but also on a small mountaintop? Welcome to the amazing gay-friendly Woods Cabins, which sit in one of the dreamiest settings we’ve ever seen. Located a mere 10-minute walk from the main street in Downtown Eureka Springs, the B&B sits on a small lush mountain top, complete with cobblestoned walkways and a waterfall. So, we were all secluded and private, and still close enough to the center of town, down a beautiful tree-lined path.
Staying here felt like staying at a B&B but with the comforts of a hotel. We loved the lush greenery all around, and the gardens were landscaped and well-maintained. So, after a day of exploring the town, we’d park our car for free on the property and enjoy a walk in the garden. Our evenings were spent drinking coffee or wine on the terrace, followed by a barbecue dinner where we mingled with our fellow travelers, gay and otherwise. Concierge service, a hot tub for relaxation, and a 24-hour front desk wrap up the amenities here.
If you were impressed by the setting, wait till you see the rooms, all of which have patios, coffee machines, microwaves, fridges, private bathrooms with bath products, flatscreen TVs, and plush beds. Sigh.

Cliff Cottage Inn

Best location. Are you a literary nut looking for a gay-friendly stay in Eureka Springs? The Cliff Cottage Inn was made just for people like you and us. Every one of their seven suites is named after famous writers and artists from a century or two ago. The inn boasted a lovely verdant setting, right in the heart of the Historic District, with a main house and two Victorian and Craftsman homes each. What impressed us right off the bat was that they even had an off-street Downtown parking spot for every reservation. So, despite having a rental car and staying right in the heart of Downtown Eureka Springs, we didn’t have to shell out a penny for parking, and neither be worried about where we could park our car securely.
We took to hosts Justin and Asheli Robbins the minute we met them. Not only did they make our stay comfortable, but also delivered a full gourmet breakfast right to our suite. They even took requests to accommodate almost any kind of diet, including vegan fare. The best bit? We were even offered other in-room perks like wine/champagne, fruits, chocolates, and cookies as part of their romance packages. All five king and two queen suites were romantic and elegant. Our suite (and one more) even had a private hot tub for two, while another one had a well-equipped kitchenette too. Nevertheless, all of them were spacious with luxe bathrooms and plush beds. If an excellent location is what you’re looking for from a gay-friendly hotel in town, then this is it.

If you’re looking for a bit of whimsy in your gay-friendly Eureka Springs stay, try the Sherwood Court Cottages. This charming B&B has a bunch of lovely themed cottages, harkening back to simpler times, while also having all the mod-cons we could ask for. Our cottage had a lovely yellow theme, complementing the season we were traveling in. What’s more, it was air-conditioned and had a coffee machine, a microwave, and a fridge. Our room even had a kitchenette with a toaster, a minibar, and a stovetop, and it was worth it. So, we could prepare simple meals and even store food we’d brought from the outside. Besides a flatscreen TV, the cottage even had a private bathroom.
The cottages sit just a five-minute drive from the Downtown Historic District and offered us free private parking for our rental car. Moreover, they had free Wi-Fi across the property which was very helpful. Finally, innkeepers Stacey and Patrick Burnett even offered us concierge services for things to do and places to see around the town.

1886 Crescent Hotel and Spa

Sitting at the top of the list is the 1886 Crescent Hotel and Spa, which is part of the collection of 5 historic hotels that were built before 1906. The locals are so proud of this that they included the dates of the founding of the hotels in their formal names, hence, the name. We loved everything about the hotel, right from the amenities and activities to the stately architecture and the expansive grounds. Did you know that it’s also famous as “America’s Most Haunted Hotel?” Yes! This stately and historic gay-friendly property is what we were looking for in Eureka Springs.
Possible hauntings apart, the 76-room hotel sits in an imposing wood and granite property just 15 minutes from Downtown Eureka Springs. We loved the moody, Victorian design that, along with its myths and legends, makes for a very atmospheric ambiance. Our days began with free buffet breakfast spreads in the high-ceilinged Crystal Dining Room. When we weren’t exploring the region, we’d be at the seasonal outdoor pool, on the loungers, or at the spa. Thanks to four restaurants and bars on the property, we never had to wander too far for delicious fare or a drink.
Most of the rooms and suites offer spectacular views of the 15-acre grounds. What’s more, we had the choice of more historic rooms with Victorian decor and more modern, woodsy cottages with well-equipped kitchens. You might also want to check out the Treehouse Cottages nearby, which were charming wooden treetop cabins.

- Best location: Cliff Cottage Inn
- Most romantic: Hidden Springs B&B
- Best clothing-optional resort: Magnetic Valley Resort
- Best gay-owned: The Wanderoo Lodge
Get Some Culture in Eureka Springs
- Diversity Weekends: Eureka Springs is the only city in the country to hold not one but three Pride events in the year, during fall, summer, and spring. That’s not surprising, given that more than 30% of the denizens identify as LGBTQ. Aptly called Diversity Weekends, these have parades, activities, and live music, and invite everyone to participate. Partly funded by the local businesses and the City of Eureka Springs, the town’s Diversity Weekends are not to be missed.
Best Gay Bars / Clubs in Eureka Springs
Despite there being no exclusively gay clubs or bars, Eureka Springs has an amazing nightlife with a slew of gay-friendly places that welcome everyone.
- Eureka Live: Tucked in the heart of downtown, this place calls itself “The Most Diverse Bar in Eureka Springs,” and it’s true. Not only is it gay-friendly but also it offers weekly DJ dance parties, karaoke, and even drag shows on Fridays and Saturdays. They even have a beer garden that opens on weekends. Since they don’t open every evening, so ensure that you check their website for more information.
- Missy’s White Rabbit Lounge: This lovely little place plays live music and even holds LGBTQ meet and greets during Diversity Weekends.
Best Gay Saunas in Eureka Springs
- Palace Hotel and Bath House: While there’s no separate, dedicated gay-friendly sauna, the sauna at the gay-friendly Palace Hotel and Bath House is one of the most popular in the town. The century-old bathhouse is the only original bathhouse remaining in Eureka Springs, having opened in 1901.
