We stayed in a small cabin just outside the park on our first trip. Waking up to the sound of birds and the smell of pine trees was an experience we’ll never forget. Our stay at Yosemite Valley Lodge was pleasant. We think it’s ideal for families and groups wanting to immerse themselves in the magic of Yosemite. Positioned directly opposite Yosemite Falls, the lodge offers newly updated rooms that harmonize with the surrounding natural beauty. The design, featuring ample glass and wood, allows natural light to flood in, presenting charming views from every angle.
We were impressed by the comfort of our room. It had a lovely balcony with a stunning mountain panorama, a comfortable desk, and a spacious private bathroom. With a flat-screen TV, luxurious bed linens, and plenty of closet space, it felt just like home.
Each morning, we enjoyed a brief walk to the base of Yosemite Falls, where the morning mist refreshed our day. Dining was amazing, with the Mountain Room serving delectable meals amidst the stunning Yosemite landscape. Best for group travels. Staying at Yosemite View Lodge in El Portal was truly unforgettable. Situated just at the entrance on Highway 140, the lodge lives up to its name by offering stunning views. From our room’s private balcony, we enjoyed the magnificent sights of the Merced River and the vast expanse of the park. We felt like we had our own piece of Yosemite.
The activities around the lodge were a highlight of our stay. We embarked on a thrilling whitewater rafting adventure starting right in El Portal. Moreover, exploring the restored steam engine and caboose near the El Portal Market added a touch of local history to the trip. Yosemite View Lodge is an ideal choice for those exploring Yosemite or simply relaxing in a serene setting.
Dining at the River Restaurant and Lounge was memorable, featuring classic American dishes with the choice of indoor or patio seating. After a day filled with activities, unwinding in the hot tub, swimming in the pool, or relaxing by the fireplace was a perfect end to the day.

Best budget. Staying at The Monarch Inn was memorable. Nestled in the breathtaking landscape of the High Sierra, this hotel truly reflects the natural beauty of Yosemite. From the moment we walked into our room, we knew it would the days ahead would be great. The plush bed, draped in crisp white linens and piled high with fluffy pillows, beckoned me to relax after a day of exploring. The soft hues of the room’s decor created a tranquil ambiance.
The modern amenities added to the experience. The television with DirecTV and premium HD channels provided endless entertainment options, while the whisper-quiet Individually Controlled Air Conditioning and Heating ensured our room was always at the perfect temperature. Every morning started with a freshly brewed coffee from the Keurig coffee maker.
The seasonal outdoor pool was an excellent escape, perfect for a refreshing dip while soaking in the stunning surroundings. Daily coffee and tea service added a delicate touch to each morning.

Situated in a scenic area, the Narrow Gauge Inn offers more than just accommodation. It provides a rich, immersive experience in nature and history. When we visited for the first time, the inn’s rustic charm was evident, reflecting its origins as the 1952 Swiss Melody Inn, crafted by Swedish immigrants Rudy and Luce Stauffer.
We enjoyed a delicious meal in the lodge-style restaurant on our first evening. The stone fireplaces, antique oil lamps, and beautiful stained glass created a cozy ambiance. The seasonal fine dining menu showcased local flavors. The following morning, we explored the inn’s stunning grounds. The creekside trail felt like a hidden gem, surrounded by a vibrant array of azaleas, ferns, and dogwoods. The gentle murmur of the stream provided a soothing backdrop, and we even encountered some friendly wildlife, including raccoons and squirrels.
The staff at the Narrow Gauge Inn was truly welcoming. Their extensive knowledge of the area and eagerness to recommend activities, such as visiting the nearby Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, was really helpful. Their warm hospitality made me feel like part of their extended family.

Staying at Big Creek Inn was an unforgettable experience. Perched at 5000 feet and only 2 miles from Yosemite’s south entrance, this spot is perfect for those craving tranquility and natural beauty. From the moment we arrived, the gentle sounds of Big Creek set the tone for our stay. Self-check-in was effortless, so we could begin our Yosemite journey immediately.
Our second-floor room provided breathtaking views and the calming sounds of the creek. A delicious continental breakfast was delivered right outside our door in the morning. Our room featured a luxurious soaking tub, a streaming TV, a mini fridge, and a private balcony perfect for stargazing in the evenings. And the common area, with its self-serve beverages and snacks, made everything so much better.
After a day of exploring Yosemite’s awe-inspiring trails, we enjoyed unwinding on the deck, watching wildlife in the meadow, or indulging in a movie from the extensive DVD collection. Big Creek Inn prioritizes comfort, relaxation, and privacy.

Situated in the quaint town of Oakhurst, this cozy, western-style motel is the perfect sanctuary away from home. The room at The Oakhurst Inn was immaculate and super comfy. It featured everything we needed, like a cable TV, microwave, and refrigerator. A coffee machine was also available for our daily dose of coffee. Every morning, they provided a delicious breakfast buffet with options ranging from continental to a full American breakfast. It was the perfect way to start the day.
After exploring the stunning Yosemite landscapes, we loved relaxing in the seasonal outdoor swimming pool and hot tub, which provided much-needed relief for our tired muscles. We also enjoyed spending quiet evenings on the terrace, soaking in the serene atmosphere. The nearby restaurants, China Delight and Oakhurst Grill, were our go-to choices for dinner.

Hotel Charlotte provides a captivating Old West experience, merging historic allure with contemporary comfort. Upon arrival, we felt like we had entered a bygone era, thanks to the 1921 Gold Rush-era architecture. Each of the 13 distinct guest rooms served as a cozy sanctuary after a day of exploring Yosemite. Our room featured charming rustic decor, free Wi-Fi, satellite TV, and a private bathroom.
We appreciated the 24/7 access to lobby amenities, including coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and light snacks. Complimentary muffins and fresh fruit were provided every morning. Dining at Charlotte’s Tavern, the hotel’s restaurant and bar, was the most memorable part of our stay. The homestyle comfort food was delicious, and the handcrafted cocktails were the perfect way to unwind after a day of adventures.
The history of Groveland enriched our stay at Hotel Charlotte. Learning about Charlotte DeFerrari, the hotel’s founder and namesake, added depth to our experience. Her story of resilience and ambition, having built the hotel in 1921 and turned it into a beloved landmark, is woven into the fabric of this charming property.

Established in the 1920s to attract discerning guests, this historic lodge continues to captivate with its seamless integration into the natural beauty of the park. The hotel welcomed us with a beautiful decor we’ve never seen anywhere else before. It was so unique and enchanting. Everything we saw here reflected its storied past.
From cozy rooms in the main lodge to spacious suites boasting private fireplaces and balconies, each space offers a sanctuary amidst Yosemite’s magnificent landscapes. The centerpiece of our dining experience was The Ahwahnee Dining Room, where soaring ceilings and expansive windows framed panoramic views of Yosemite’s iconic scenery. We were immersed in culinary creations that celebrated local flavors and ingredients.
The Ahwahnee Bar boasts an inviting atmosphere and outdoor seating options for a more relaxed ambiance. It’s perfect for enjoying a refreshing drink or a delicious casual meal with views. This place is the true spirit of Yosemite’s natural wonders. We stayed at Ahwahnee for three nights and can’t wait to return!

Best for solo travelers. Nestled along the tranquil shores of Twin Lakes, Tamarack Lodge is Mammoth’s best-kept secret. Our time at this historic resort was memorable. They combine rustic elegance and nature, providing the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. Built in 1924, the lodge radiates vintage charm. We opted for a lakeside cabin with a snug kitchen and fireplace. The cool summer climate at 9,000 feet meant air conditioning wasn’t missed. We awoke to stunning views of the serene lake and majestic mountains.
The days were filled with outdoor adventures. We rented a mountain bike to explore the picturesque trails and later enjoyed a relaxing paddle on Twin Lakes. The lodge offers guided hikes and fly fishing lessons, allowing for a deep connection with the alpine environment. In winter, the groomed, snowy trails are perfect for cross-country skiing.

Best amenities. AutoCamp Yosemite will give you an unforgettable adventure. Nestled beneath the awe-inspiring granite cliffs of Yosemite, our glamping experience was the perfect fusion of nature and luxury. We were mesmerized by the stunning view of Bridalveil Fall as we savored locally crafted Sierra Orchard cider. We enjoyed exploring the scenic trails on the complimentary bikes and appreciated the convenience of the outdoor swimming pool and terrace.
Our Premium Airstream Suite was an oasis. The spacious 31-foot Airstream featured a bright, airy sitting room and a fully equipped kitchenette. The bedroom was the star among all, boasting a queen bed with high-thread count linens positioned under a panoramic window that showcased breathtaking views of the natural landscape. The galley sofa can be easily converted into a double bed.
Another key feature was the modern, spa-like bathroom, complete with a walk-in rain shower and a generous vanity area stocked with luxurious bath products. We opted for a charming Cottage with a cozy outdoor sitting area and a fireplace that added a nice touch to our experience. For those seeking even more privacy, the Explorer Cabins offer two-bedroom sanctuaries with private decks, perfect for immersing in the tranquil forest atmosphere.

The kids especially enjoyed the pool’s fun water features. The indoor pool, featuring nightly ‘Dive-in’ movies, provided entertainment and relaxation no matter the season. After our daily excursions, we relaxed in one of the four hot tubs or enjoyed a rejuvenating massage at Ascent Spa.
A standout activity was the archery lessons. We also rented electric-assist bikes and glided through the aromatic pine forests on the broad dirt roads. The kids had an exhilarating time on the resort’s outdoor climbing wall, and we all loved the guided nature walks that led us to hidden waterfalls behind the property. Our personal favorite spot is Yosemite Valley. This area is perfect for those who want to maximize their time in the park, as you’ll be close to landmarks like Half Dome, El Capitan, and Bridalveil Falls. This is where we can find many unique good hotels near Yosemite National Park. The valley’s strategic location makes it easy to hop on shuttle buses that connect to various trails and points of interest. Secondly, we also love to stay around El Portal. This is a small community located just outside the park’s western entrance. It’s an excellent option for visitors looking for affordability. It’s a tranquil town with good dining options.
For those willing to stay a bit further from the park, Mariposa offers a charming, historic town atmosphere with various lodging options. This area is about an hour’s drive from the park’s entrance, but it’s well worth considering for its quaint bed-and-breakfasts and boutique inns. Mariposa is also rich in Gold Rush history, offering unique local attractions such as the Mariposa Museum and History Center. Another good spot is Oakhurst. It’s located south of the park and provides a larger selection of restaurants and shops than other nearby towns. Staying here also places you close to Bass Lake.
Northwest of the park, there’s Groveland. The town has historic charm and is home to California’s oldest continuously operating saloon, the Iron Door Saloon. And lastly, we also recommend Fish Camp.
