Location, Location, (Harbor-side) Location
They say that where you stay on holiday determines how your holiday will be, and Hampton by Hilton St Thomas seems to have made it its motto. This Hampton outpost sits right on the harbor in St. Thomas, overlooking Long Bay. In fact, it sits right between Gates 1 and 2 of the Havensight Cruise Terminal and Port. So, not only did it make day trips and island-hopping a breeze, but we were also right across from Havensight Mall for a spot of shopping. What’s more, the local nightlife and a million restaurants and bars were right down the road. Hence, we didn’t have to venture far when it came to seeking variety in terms of food.
If that wasn’t enough, we were a mere five-minute drive from the territorial capital, Charlotte Amalie, which is a 1600s-founded, busy cruise-ship port. So, history and culture vultures like us were in candyland, as we had plenty of historic sites to explore. These included the redbrick 17th-century Danish fort of Fort Christian, the oldest standing structure in the USVI.
What also helped, along with the location, was that the hotel had both onsite parking and airport shuttle services. While the shuttle services were paid, the on-site parking was completely free!

Gorgeous Rooms With Island-Inspired Décor
We’ll be honest — we weren’t sure what to expect from a Hampton outpost in the Caribbean, but the rooms at the Hampton by Hilton St Thomas blew us away. We had the choice of 126 rooms and suites, all of which were airy and bright, and with distinctly island personalities. Think pops of blue accents, laminate wood floors, and a wonderfully open yet cozy layout with tons of space for walking around.
However, what we loved was that no matter which room one chose, whether an executive one or the suite, all rooms came with views of either the city, the pool, or the harbor, or the city. Our King Room with a harbor view was one of the loveliest harbor-facing rooms we’ve ever stayed in. What’s more, all rooms came with a bunch of practical amenities, including flat-screen TVs, desks, microwaves, fridges, and even tea and coffee makers. Not only were there hairdryers in all the bathrooms, but they were also stocked with complimentary bath products.
After long days exploring the island, sinking into the premium Hampton bedding felt like an absolute luxury. Did we mention that every room, including entry-level ones, came with free Wi-Fi and signature hot breakfasts? Yes!

Scrumptious, Customizable Breakfasts
Have you ever heard of breakfast being ‘customizable’? Well, they certainly are at Hampton by Hilton properties!
As we mentioned earlier, notwithstanding the room type, Hampton by Hilton St Thomas offers free hot breakfast for its guests! The brand’s breakfast is several notches above the usual basic continental spread, and the star was undoubtedly Hilton’s iconic waffles, which it introduced way back in 2009. Not only were the waffles fresh, hot, and crisp, but they were also customizable. The rest of the meal was no less impressive, especially with the oatmeal station with plenty of toppings, juice choices that went beyond apple and orange, and French toast sticks, among other things.

Well, Well, Wellness: Relaxing With Hampton by Hilton
As the first international branded hotel on St. Thomas (and the USVI), the objective of Hampton by Hilton St Thomas was to cater to all kinds of travelers, whether business or leisure. And the well-designed and thoughtful wellness-focused amenities and facilities are a testament to that.
In fact, one of the best parts of our St. Thomas vacations was to make a splash in the gorgeous outdoor pool on the 2,000-sq-ft huge deck after breakfast. Overlooking the harbor and Long Bay, the pool deck was sprinkled with white deck chairs, daybeds, and parasols. So, we’d enjoy languorous swims with stunning views, followed by equally long lie-ins on the daybeds, and then enjoy a drink from the poolside bar and read a book. We also loved the modern and well-equipped fitness center, which allowed us to work out even on vacation. It certainly helped burn off all those Caribbean calories we had been putting on with all the delicious local food!
Besides a business center and meeting rooms for business travelers, the 3,800-sq-ft patio was a great place to hang out after a long day of work. Whether you’re here for leisure or work, the bar and lounge, which overlooked the harbor, was a fantastic place for drinking tipples and impressing clients!

- The hotel’s location is excellent, as it sits right across from Havensight Harbor and Pier and the Havensight Mall. Plus, St. Thomas airport isn’t far away either.
- The onsite free parking is rare, and the free Wi-Fi and free hot breakfast buffets are the proverbial cherries on top.
- We loved the well-maintained, modern amenities.
Cons
- Since it sits opposite the harbor, it’s not exactly a quiet location. However, the windows are excellent at blocking out most of the sound.
