Honu Waikiki
6
Best Private Rooms. Kicking off this list is Honu Waikiki, one of the most loved hostels in Waikiki HI. Traveling solo can be fun, but it’s also nice to meet people along the way. Honu Waikiki absolutely delivered on that front! The common areas, especially the awesome rooftop terrace, were perfect for hanging out and swapping stories with people from all over the world. Of course, I spent my spare time there, meeting new people and sharing exciting stories of our adventures.
Now, let’s talk location. The hostel itself is situated between cool shops and local attractions. While not exactly in Waikiki Beach, it’s only a short 20-minute walk away. And based on my experience, it didn’t even feel that long. On top of that, they have free beach chair rentals if you need them. My room was another perk. It wasn’t just a dorm bed – it was a spacious one-bedroom suite with a full kitchen, a lanai (like a little balcony), and even an extra bed in the living room! But if you want to stay at the dorm, they have one, too.
Seaside Hawaiian Hostel Waikiki
5
Best Amenities. Just two blocks from the beach, the Seaside Hawaiian Hostel is a hidden gem worth exploring. I kid you not; I could practically smell the ocean breeze from here during my stay. Plus, all the shops, restaurants, and nightlife were a short stroll away. Sounds like I won’t have a dull moment here! But it’s not just about location. This place feels like a hidden oasis, too. They have hammocks strung up everywhere, perfect for relaxing, and a beautiful courtyard with banyan trees for shade. I actually had a hard time believing I was in the heart of the city.
The best part? They had tons of stuff I could borrow – boogie boards, snorkel gear, beach mats – you name it! Plus, the Wi-Fi was free in my room and the courtyard. Speaking of rooms, some dorms sleep four to six people, each with security lockers to keep my things safe. Traveling with someone special? They also have private rooms, although bathrooms are shared here, unlike some other hostels. They even have luggage storage and laundry facilities, a major plus! This place has everything a traveler could need.
Hostelling International Honolulu
4
Best for Solo Travelers. Hostelling International Honolulu offers a social but relaxed stay away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. You’ll love this place no matter what kind of traveler you are. Don’t worry. Waikiki Beach is super close, and public transport is nearby. But I included this hostel on this list because there are hiking trails nearby, making it the perfect option for outdoor enthusiasts.
Moreover, this hostel offers dorm rooms segregated by gender, which is nice for solo travelers. There are also a few private rooms available if you prefer more privacy. Despite being shared, both the bathroom and shower were clean and well-maintained during my stay. Additionally, there was a fully equipped kitchen where I could whip up my own meals, which was a great way to save money. In the evenings, I enjoyed relaxing in the common area with a TV and a lounge – a great place to meet fellow travelers.

Waikiki Beachside Hostel

Best Service. For a laid-back Hawaiian experience, the Waikiki Beachside Hostel is the perfect spot. The best part? Waikiki Beach is just a few minutes’ walk away! Seriously, it was amazing to have a comfy bed so close to the action after a long day of soaking up the sun and catching some waves (Diamond Head Crater is stunning, by the way). Speaking of waves, surfers will be happy to know they’re right next to some famous Waikiki breaks, too. Not to mention, the staff here are awesome. They were so friendly and helpful, with a real chill Hawaiian vibe.
Hawaii can be pricey, but Waikiki Beachside Hostel helped me have an amazing adventure without breaking the bank. They even have free rentals of beach gear, including some fun stuff like corn hole and spike ball to keep you entertained on the sand. Not to mention, the dorm was better than I expected. Mine had a lovely bed sheet and the people I met were also so cool. I also liked how there were lockers to keep my stuff secure. But you should bring your own lock as the hostel doesn’t provide one.

Polynesian Hostel Beach Club
2
Best for Young Travelers. The Polynesian Hostel Beach Club is the place to be if you’re looking for an epic time. The vibe here is incredible – it’s all about meeting awesome people who are stoked about adventure. This is to be expected from one of the top hostels in Hawaii Waikiki. And guess what? The staff here are travelers themselves, living the dream in Hawaii, and totally ready to help you do the same. I stayed in the mixed dormitory room, and it was even better in person. Every corner was clean, and though not a 5-star bed, mine was comfy enough to give me a good night’s sleep. Plus, I was able to cook in the huge kitchen, allowing me to save some cash and fuel up for all the exploring I’d be doing.
Speaking of which, this place is unbeatable. I was literally steps from Waikiki Beach. Yep, how much closer can you get? Plus, the Honolulu Zoo, Aquarium, and Diamond Head Crater are all right there. At night, Waikiki comes alive! There are many amazing restaurants, bars, and clubs, all within walking distance. I could easily paint the town red without ever needing a taxi. You can join the hostel’s tours and exciting activities if you want. This is the perfect place to crash, connect with fellow travelers, and launch yourself into an unforgettable Hawaiian adventure. I highly recommend it!

The Beach Waikiki

Best Location. You can’t talk about the best hostels in Waikiki Beach Hawaii, without mentioning The Beach Waikiki Boutique Hostel. First of all, let’s talk about location. This place seriously can’t be beaten, as it’s only half a block from Waikiki Beach. I was able to enjoy the sand in mere minutes. No wonder they call it “The Beach” Waikiki. Besides that, only a short walk from the hostel is ALOH Health Bar & Cafe. I loved the organic acai bowls and pressed juices. They were so delish and fresh. Better yet, guests of this hostel will get a special discount no matter what they order.
When it comes to accommodations, this hostel has a variety of dorm options, including female-only dorms. When I was there, everything was super clean, and they even had some cool extras like free Kona coffee in the mornings, boogie boards, and beach chairs! Safety is a priority, too, with lockers in the rooms and a security deposit system. If you’re a social butterfly, feel free to hang out in the outdoor area with the other backpackers and play Jenga together. There is a quiet time at 10 PM, but don’t worry, if you’re looking for a night out, the staff often organizes something for those who want to keep the party going.

It’s also home to Ala Moana Beach Park, a great place to relax and soak up the sun. Ala Moana is a good option for travelers who want to be close to the beach but also want to do some shopping.
If you love to hike, you should consider staying somewhere in the east of Waikiki, near the Diamond Head Crater, which is a popular hiking destination. There are also a number of beaches in this area, including Kapiolani Regional Park and Sans Souci Beach. This is a good option for travelers who want to be close to nature and who don’t mind being a little further from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki.
