These hotels combine the modern amenities and the traditional uniqueness you seek in this part of the world. Since Ubud is a big area, first-timers might find it hard to choose the best place to stay. That’s where our list comes into play. This will help you decide to choose your own best of the best hotels in Ubud, Bali.
Where to Stay in Ubud
When it comes to choosing a place to stay in Ubud, you need to keep in mind that public transportation is not Bali’s strongest suit. You can get around by taxi, but that’s not an affordable option. There are online taxis, but those are considered illegal especially in this part of Bali. Not to mention that roads and their infrastructures in Ubud are not accommodating to a large group of people. So, you’ll have to deal with the traffic during your commute from one attraction to another. Getting around on foot is the easiest option. So, make sure to choose hotels in Ubud, Bali that is within walking distance of the places you want to visit.
First-timers should not stray too far from the Ubud Center. It’s where you can find most of the popular restaurants, bars, and shops. This area includes Hanoman Street, Cok Gede Rai Street, and of course, Ubud’s main road, Jalan Raya Ubud. The Monkey Forest is only a few minutes away from this part of the town. That said, since it’s usually packed with tourists, we don’t recommend hotels around here for those looking for a more relaxing and tranquil vacation. Instead, look for those at least 10-15 minutes away from the Ubud Center, such as Campuhan, Pengosekan, and Sawah Indah areas.

This extends to the on-site yoga studio where you as a guest can join in. For a complete relaxation mode, book for at least 3 nights to get a complimentary massage!
Location-wise, Bliss is only 5 minutes away from the Ubud Center. Even better, the resort provides a free shuttle there. As you can tell from its name, each unit in this hotel is a villa on its own, making it perfect for a getaway amidst Ubud’s greenery. Needless to say, the ambiance here is very quiet. Amora is located on the edge of the Campuhan River. As mentioned before, Campuhan is one of the areas where you can have a more secluded experience, further away from the center. Sri Bungalows Ubud
8
Sri Bungalows Ubud was known as Bucu View Resort by Pranama. Even with a different name, it still sits right in the middle of Ubud’s green areas, which makes it one of the best hotels in Bali as well. As you’d probably known by now, hotels in Ubud Bali do not offer grandeur, but they provide more opportunities to reconnect with peaceful nature.
Expect wooden furniture and decoration, all the way from the hotel’s lobby to your bedroom. If you book the villa unit, you’ll have your own pool overlooking the river. With the in-room breakfast service, you don’t have to wake up early just to fuel up for a day filled with adventure.
The famous Monkey Forest is just 5 minutes away on foot. Located on Bisma Street, you’re within walking distance of Ubud’s main attractions.
Meruhdani Boutique Hotel Ubud
7
Previously named Alila, Meruhdani Boutique Hotel is the perfect place to get away from the rest of the world. Don’t believe us? The resort sits literally on the edge of a lush valley of the Ayung River and can be accessed only via winding narrow roads between verdant rice fields. In fact, the only ‘disturbance’ will be the birds and monkeys frolicking in the trees around! If this doesn’t make it one of the best hotels in Ubud, we don’t know what will.
The place might have been styled after a traditional Balinese hillside village, but radiates a modern, hip vibe, making it one of the best gay-friendly hotels in Bali. This one’s for Instagram, complete with thatched roofs, panoramas of the lush valley, and even a sculpture garden.
The excellence extends to the resort’s amenities, beginning with the serene spa sitting in the garden. The main eatery serves, among other meals, a lip-smacking artisanal breakfast, while the poolside lounge is perfect for a sexy nightcap. Besides the 24-hour fitness center and library, the showstopper is the spectacular infinity pool that juts out over the valley!
While the standard rooms are heavenly enough, we’d recommend the upgraded ones or the villas that have valley views and come with deep soaking outdoor tubs and pools. Nevertheless, all rooms feature snazzy minibars, bespoke toiletries, and decks or balconies.
Pramana Watu Kurung Resort
6
Rice fields are not your only option when it comes to Ubud’s greenery. In fact, most of Ubud’s areas are surrounded by forest. From Pramana Watu Kurung Resort, you’ll have a great view of the forest. How does a yoga class in the middle of this natural beauty sound like? Start your day with this refreshing and relaxing experience every morning here.
Use the hotel’s bikes for free to explore the areas around the hotel. Or just stroll around under the shade of the forest. Not far from the river, you can reach one of the river-rafting clubs in a few minutes.
But for more relaxing water activity, you don’t even need to leave the resort. There’s an outdoor swimming pool on-site, overlooking the lush forest and the river right underneath you. Some rooms also offer this stunning view from the private patios. Basic room amenities such as a flat-screen TV, DVD player, and free toiletries are also available.
Natya Resort Ubud
5
Planning to have a barbeque by the forest? Natya Resort Ubud offers you a nice spot for that. The sun terrace overlooking the beautiful pool is something not all hotels in Ubud Bali have. If you book a certain unit, you’ll have a private pool and a dining area, too. Now that’s what we call a private elegant party!
Even though it’s nestled in a foresty area, right on a valley, and bordered by a river, Natya offers free Wi-Fi throughout the property. On top of that, you can have the hotel pick you up and drop you off at the airport at a reasonable charge.
The outdoor infinity pool is where you should start and end your day. Perhaps with a quick lap or two or simply relaxing and marveling at the tropical beauty. What we would recommend, though, is to request a massage treatment right by the pool. It may not be the best massage, but the view makes it 10 times better!
Chapung Sebali
4
It’s not often that hotels in Ubud, Bali is known for its pool bar. And yet, Chapung Sebali excels with its Jungle Fish bar right next to the on-site infinity pool. Open to the public, this is not the place to be if you seek for a tranquil moment. But if that’s not an issue, go ahead and enjoy a glass of cocktail overlooking the valley.
We personally love its location. The hotel is nestled in a traditional Balinese village up on the hillside, surrounded by the lush forest. Instead of rooms, the hotel offers individual villas where every guest can have full privacy.
Even though it’s not so close to Ubud Center and its attraction, you won’t get bored as there are plenty of things you can do on-site. From rice-field trekking to horse-riding, to yoga classes, there’s something for everyone.
A massage service is available by request. Moms and Dads, you’ll be happy to know that you’ll enjoy every stroke of Balinese massage with some peace of mind with the hotel’s babysitting service.
