Staying at Motel 6 hotels always provided us with the comfort of its familiarity. We know what to expect, and the Motel 6 often delivers it, from its comfortable budget-friendly rooms, helpful staff, and when we get lucky, a desirable location. That said, in cities like San Francisco, a Motel 6 hotel makes a great alternative to the most expensive options. With San Francisco having well-connected public transportation, we could easily reach all parts of the city with ease. So no worries if we happen to be on the other side of downtown, we can still easily get around. Now, without further ado, here is our curated list of the Motel 6 hotels in San Francisco.

Motel 6 San Francisco CA Lombard Street

Best location. Motel 6 San Francisco CA Lombard Street hands down has the best location. It’s situated on the busy Lombard Street, with lots of local shops and restaurants around the block. And while a bus stop is just across the hotel, we could easily walk to Marina Green and Fort Mason in under 15 minutes. That said, our experience here was okay.

Other than its ideal location, the hotel gave us a relatively comfortable place to sleep. Our check-in was quite pleasant. The staff was nice and helped us have a smooth check-in. The staff also informed us that there were complimentary coffee stations. And while we didn’t bring a pet with us, we could see other guests staying with their furry buddies. Turns out, the hotel also allowed pets at no extra charge!

Lastly, as for our room, it wasn’t the most modern-looking, but it was clean enough. However, we appreciate the extra mod-cons like cable TV, microwave, and mini-fridge. The bathroom was also clean, and we got free toiletries. All in all, in its price point, we for sure lucked out on the location.

Motel 6-Belmont, CA – San Francisco – Redwood City

Best Motel 6 near Aiport. If you don’t mind a bit of a drive, then you’ll enjoy staying at Motel 6-Belmont, CA – San Francisco – Redwood City. It’s only 30 minutes from downtown San Francisco, so not that far. And if you need to stay at a hotel near the San Francisco International Airport, then guess what, you can get there in 13 minutes! Plus, the restaurants and shops in the area are much cheaper, making it ideal for us who wanted a cheap alternative in the first place. For one, we recommend the neighboring Hobb’s Restaurant for a hearty meal.

That said, besides its relatively easy access to downtown San Francisco, Motel 6 also offered us more facilities. Instead of just the usual comfortable lodging with its in-room neat amenities, we also got to enjoy an outdoor pool and a sun terrace. Beyond that, we did get a cable TV, and also a microwave in our room. Additionally, the hotel also provided various vending machines, on top of the other conveniences like free WiFi, and free parking.

Motel 6 San Rafael

Motel 6 San Rafael may not be located in central San Francisco, but it is just under 15 minutes from the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. The hotel’s Francisco Boulevard location also put us on a busy street with various restaurants nearby. And whenever we need a quick ride to downtown SF, luckily a SMART train station was just 3 minutes away.

That aside, the hotel has the signature friendly hospitality that we expected from any Motel 6 we’ve been to. For starters, from the moment we got here, the staff mostly didn’t bother us too much, but would happily help us with anything we needed. And while this Motel 6 didn’t come with a pool, their other amenities like a laundromatte, and vending machines were still welcomed conveniences. Our room was also to our liking. It was spacious and clean with added amenities like a mini-fridge, a microwave, and a cable TV. Overall, Motel 6 San Rafael served their purpose well as an easy cheap alternative while still giving us good services.

Motel 6 San Francisco CA Fisherman’s Wharf

When it comes to ideal location Motel 6 San Francisco CA Fisherman’s Wharf makes a good competition to the other Motel 6 in Lombrat Street. This one for sure brought us closer to the iconic Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39. We could easily get there in 10 minutes, and even faster with the bus, which conveniently stops right in front of our Motel 6.

Furthermore, when it comes to hospitality and services, it’s as good as any other Motel 6 we’ve been to in San Francisco. With its price point, our room was good and comfortable. We also got to enjoy amenities like a cable TV, and a microwave. Our en-suite was also clean, and there were free toiletries and conveniently a hairdryer. As for other services, the motel offered us a complimentary hotel beverage station in the lobby, and, according to other guests we’ve met, pets are allowed for no extra charge.

Overall best. The Motel 6 San Francisco, CA Great Highway is hands down one of the Motel 6 we’ve stayed at in the Bay Area. It has all the features we wanted for our Overall Best motel, from its ideal location, and exemplary services, to unforgettable hospitality.

For starters, the Motel 6 has an oceanfront location, with the famous Golden Gate Park literally across the street. So other than having our days spent on the beach, we also got to check out all the fun activities at the 1,017-acre park. As for the Golden Gate Bridge itself, it’s only 15 minutes away. Additionally, with the Lincoln Way bus stop around the corner, we were able to easily reach North Beach and its bustling entertainment center.

On top of its incredible location, the hospitality and services are among the best we’ve experienced in a budget lodging like the Motel 6. The staff was always kind and helpful. We also appreciate that our room looked exactly like the picture. It was spacious and clean, with good natural lighting. Our bathroom was also pristine and had a bathtub. Lastly, the motel didn’t have many facilities, but at least we got a free parking spot. And for meals, there were more than enough dining options within walking distance, and also a grocery store.

There may not be that many Motel 6 in the area, but all 5 motels that we have on this list are certified to leave you satisfied and have your money’s worth. That said, the Motel 6 San Francisco, CA Great Highway made its mark on us the most for being the only oceanfront Motel 6 in SF and giving us more than we’d expected. Where to Stay in San Francisco

Central San Francisco is the ideal area to stay at when you want to sightsee and check out all of the spots that made San Francisco so iconic. There’s the North Beach with its bustling entertainment centers, the Bay Area with its famous Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf. Additionally, Union Square and Nob Hill also make a great tourist destination for its historical buildings and luxurious shopping centers.

But for us budget travelers, finding affordable hotels in central SF can be tricky. But thanks to Motel 6, we were able to find a few in Lombard Street and Fisherman Wharf’s. While others were on the outskirts of SF’s city center, we got lucky and discovered local favorites like Ocean Beach. The area is less crowded, way cheaper, and close to the Golden Gate Park. As for getting to downtown San Francisco, we could easily catch a bus, a tram, or a train, making traveling around a breeze. The winter months are safe options when you need to San Francisco with a budget. Hotel rates are relatively cheaper in these months. But if you plan it right, you can visit SF even in high seasons and book cheap hotels early. That way you can enjoy SF at its peak season, and not blow away your budget.

How much do you need to spend in San Francisco?

The average daily spending can be up to $100, but that’s when you splurge on eating out, shopping, going for a night out, and picking one paid sightseeing spot per day. But we were most definitely able to cut our spending down by getting cheap food, making our food, or going to a non-touristy area for food. Also, most of the famous places areas in SF are free, so going to the paid ones is avoidable. Plus, to get around, we mostly avoid taxis and just stick to buses, trams, and trains.

Is 4 days enough in San Francisco?

Well, San Francisco is a big city, but 4 days should get you covered in most of the touristy spots including Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown, and more. But if you’re gunning for local favorites, then you’d need more than 4 days or a second trip.
