El Portal Sedona Hotel

How would you like to stay at what is one of the best spa hotels in Sedona, Arizona? We’re talking about the El Portal Sedona Hotel, an award-winning boutique inn that’s literally ensconced by rockwork, grapevine trellises, and trees, making it a lush, romantic hideaway in the middle of Sedona. The hotel is most known, however, for being connected to the massive spa and wellness center at Los Abrigados Resort and Spa. So, we were able to use the wellness facilities of a gorgeous resort in the same complex, including everything from massages and body treatments to tai-chi, Pilates, and even yoga. Free Wi-Fi, a garden, and a shared lounge and bar aside, another standout here was the outdoor swimming pool, which was most heavenly to swim in.
The rooms and suites at this hotel were no less of a delight either. We had a wide variety of staying choices, ranging from impressively spacious rooms to themed suites. Moreover, some of them, like ours, even had patios, fireplaces, and spa baths. Our romantic Grand Canyon suite boasted a plush bed, fluffy robes, a jacuzzi for two, and, the best of all, a patio with a small fireplace, just for the two of us.

Best value-for-money. Imagine finding a romantic chain hotel in Sedona, but without the vibe of one. Welcome to the Los Abrigados Resort and Spa, which was nestled in the heart of the red rocks landscape. We had our pick between studios and one/two-room suites, all of which were extremely spacious by Sedona standards. Moreover, most came with both kitchenettes and balconies, but our one-bedroom suite was something even more special. Overlooking the pool, the suite was spacious and even came with a balcony with alfresco seating. It was the best place to enjoy a cup of joe and start the day.
Of all the amenities here, the full-service Sedona Spa was the most amazing, boasting a vast menu of massages and treatments, and even a unique eucalyptus steam room and a dry sauna. The fitness center, the mini-golf course, and the sports club were perfect for those who wanted to stay active. Since we were on our romantic anniversary getaway, all we did was relax in the heated pool and soak in the hot tub. Barbecuing at the grill and enjoying a romantic dinner at one of the many restaurants was the best way to end the day.

Arroyo Pinion Hotel

If you’re looking for a budget romantic nest that’s also very nice, consider the Arroyo Pinion Hotel. This West Sedona hotel allowed us to indulge without having to burn a hole in our pockets, while also offering a gorgeous setting to relax and unwind. We were treated to spectacular views of Thunder Mountain. What’s more, there were many amenities on the property that enabled us to enjoy the serene landscape even more. Aside from the wonderful breakfast every morning, our favorite place on the property was the outdoor pool area with its jacuzzi and cabanas. It’s where we’d enjoy a languorous swim and a lounge, followed by a soothing soak in the hot tub.
However, nothing could beat soaking in a bubble bath right in our room, just steps from our bed! That’s because we’d opted for the Jacuzzi Suite, which featured a hot tub right in our room, as well as a fireplace and a private patio for the ultimate relaxation. What’s more, we also had other mod-cons at our convenience, like a coffeemaker, a microwave, a mini-fridge, and a cable TV.

Ambiente, A Landscape Hotel

We’re eco-friendly travelers, so imagine how thrilled we were to find a romantic yet sustainable love nest in the form of Ambiente, A Landscape Hotel. Waking up to sweeping views of Sedona, and that too within a swish glass atrium; that’s Ambiente for you. We loved everything about this adults-only resort, a first-of-its-kind landscape hotel in North America. What’s more, its amenities had minimal impact to the natural environment. For instance, the signature poolside restaurant served delicious food, including vegan options. Swimming in the pool was an out-of-the-world experience, after which we headed to the intimate Velvet Spa for a couple’s treatment. Did we mention the pre-treatment experience at the Dark Sky Lounge? It was a 30-minute sound-and-vibration-based therapy that was deeply relaxing.
We had the choice of 40 “atrium” rooms and suites, all detached, private, and with rooftops that had better views than Sedona itself. Floor-to-ceiling bronze-tinted glasses offered both privacy and views. We’d split our time in the oversized black bathtub-for-two in the bathroom and the rooftop deck, complete with a fire pit and daybed.

Sky Ranch Lodge Resort & Botanical Gardens

The Sky Ranch Lodge Resort & Botanical Gardens is best described as “an escape in the sky.” Carved into the rust-hued palette of Airport Mesa on the fringes of Sedona, the setting couldn’t be dreamier or romantic.
One of the bestselling points about this property is the superb views of the gorgeous red rock canyons and sunsets from the private patios of the rooms here. The digs here radiate oodles of vintage charm and come with a boatload of conveniences and mod-cons. Think luxurious bathrooms with slippers and robes, plush, sleek beds, and local tea and coffee. What’s more, some rooms, like ours, even have stone fireplaces and slash or kitchenettes. However, they all came with fridges and microwaves, making our stay very comfortable. Our Sky King room was a particularly luxurious second-floor retreat, complete with a split balcony, a cozy fireplace, and majestic views of the botanical gardens below.
“Staying at the Sky Lodge felt unreal; we were miles up above the landscape, and yet in one of the most verdant spaces for miles around.”
WOW Travel
If you were impressed by the rooms, wait till you see the rest of the resort. The garden bar was perfect for enjoying local wines and craft beers after which we would take long and romantic walks on the paths that wound through the lush gardens with fountains. During the day the jacuzzi and the outdoor pool complete with stunning views, were our favorite places to relax. If we wanted to move about, we take the complimentary shuttle and explore the neighborhood. The best bit? The botanical gardens here have been certified by the Arboretum International Society, an honor like nowhere else in the world.

Whispering Creek Bed & Breakfast

We have yet another B&B on this list; this time, it’s the Whispering Creek Bed & Breakfast. This B&B radiated an alluring and homely vibe, making us feel like we were at home, away from home. The attentive staff, the amazing Uptown location, and the utterly romantic vibe all made our stay very memorable.
Despite its central location, the B&B gave us a sense of privacy and serenity. The plant-covered patio and blossoming gardens became our favorite places to unwind. The innkeeper and hosts would chat with us nineteen to dozen as they served us delicious complimentary homemade breakfasts. Did we mention that this B&B is also pet-friendly?
We had the choice of just four rooms, making our stay very intimate and exclusive. Our cozy King Room was the perfect place to unwind after a day of adventuring around Sedona. Not only did it have a plush, cloud like bed, but it also had a fireplace, a smart TV, and even a private patio. However, the highlight was the luxurious bathroom with the whirlpool tub, making it one off are most favorite amenities in the room. What better way to unwind at the end of a day with your partner than in a world put whirlpool tub?

Enchantment Resort

We wanted to stay at the resort that had made it onto Travel + Leisure’s “World’s Best Awards” list in two years! Behold the Enchantment Resort in Boynton Canyon, around 20 minutes north of Sedona. Besides the privacy and seclusion, we also loved the resort for the breathtaking canyon views it offered, especially during sunrise and sunset.
In terms of amenities, the resort had everything under the sun. Thanks to its reciprocal arrangement with Mii Amo Spa, one of the best destination spas in the world, we enjoyed an amazing couples’ treatment and wellness experience. Since we’d taken a package, we even had spa credit. Our days began with long breakfasts at onsite restaurant, followed by a swim and lounge at the pool, complete with drinks from the poolside bar. There were tons of activities to choose from right on the property, including stargazing, lawn games, and arts and crafts.
Our package also included a signature welcome amenity tailored to our romantic vacation celebrations, offering us everything from berries and truffles and seasonal fruits to chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne. Plus, we had many room choices (our cozy casita was the best), all of which had private decks and stunning views.

A Sunset Chateau

Most romantic B&B. We’d never imagined that a B&B would be so romantic, but the Sunset Chateau broke all our myths, and then some. This secluded West Sedona B&B sat amidst a lush garden with a hiking trail in its backyard. So, whether we wanted to explore the outdoors or relax indoors, we could do both! The owners, both artists, have filled the place with curated artwork and trinkets, making every nook and corner Insta-worthy. However, the icing on the cake was the hilltop location, which afforded us 360-degree views of the surrounding red rocks.
Despite being a B&B, the place teemed with amenities. Aside from a thoughtful and helpful staff, we even had a complimentary concierge to tend to us. Moreover, the complimentary gourmet breakfast was a great way to begin the day, after which we’d swim in the saltwater pool and soak in the outdoor jacuzzi.
We had the choice of just eight suites, making our stay very intimate and exclusive. Our Adobe Romanticas Suite had an open, spacious layout, a kitchenette, a king-sized bed, and even a fireplace. The bathroom even had a massive two-person jetted jacuzzi tub which added to the romantic vibe all the more.

L’Auberge de Sedona

One of the best resorts to stay in Sedona AZ, L’Auberge de Sedona, is also a very romantic place to hole up for a staycation. Tucked on the banks of Oak Creek, the massive 11-acre property had “romantic escape” on its mind when it chose its layout. They had 62 luxury cottages, 21-lodge style rooms, and a standalone 5-bedroom Creekhouse. We chose “The Celebration Package,” which included a three-night stay in a private cottage ensconced amidst lush gardens and trees. It not only had free Wi-fi but also a plush bed, a cozy fireplace, and a sleek bathroom. The best feature, though, was the huge outdoor shower, making our dream of nighttime moonlit shower sessions a reality! Did we mention that our package also included custom meals delivered right to our cottage? Sigh.
We loved indulging in the amenities at the resort too, like dining at the award-winning restaurant, Cress on Oak Creek, complete with fabulous Creekside views. One of the best ways to wind down was at the L’Apothecary spa, where we could use the property’s signature ‘Oak Creek essence’ to make our own products!

Casa Sedona Inn
2
One of our most romantic stays in Sedona was Casa Sedona Inn, a boutique stay that also happened to be one of the best hotels in Sedona AZ with private hot tubs. It’s ensconced in a secluded spot in West Sedona, surrounded by lush gardens with Thunder Mountain views in the distance. We had the choice of many rooms here, all individually decked out in neutral shades. What’s more, they all had private balconies/patios, luxurious bathrooms, and even fireplaces, but our “Serena Vista” room was very special. Not only did it have views of the mountains, but it also had a huge jetted jacuzzi for two of us, making it a romantic stay like no other.
The resort was equally impressive when it came to the amenities too. We’d take long, secluded walks in the lush grounds before heading to the onsite Casa Sedona Restaurant for delicious meals. With views of the blossoming gardens and the landscape, dining here was as romantic as it got, even in the middle of the afternoon. An outdoor jacuzzi rounded up the amenities here.

Most luxurious. The utterly romantic Amara Resort and Spa, sitting on the banks of Oak Creek, was our splurge worthy romantic retreat in Sedona. The secluded yet luxurious stay offered spectacular views of Sedona’s landscape, and then some. We were swept off our feet when we saw the stays, all of which had plush, cloud-like beds, private balconies, and oversized soaking tubs perfect for the two of us to enjoy long and languorous soaks. We chose the Creekside King Suite for the ultimate in luxury and privacy. It not only had wonderful views of the creek running by the resort but also a spa tub.
The resort overflowed with romantic amenities and possibilities, beginning with our favorite, the picture-perfect outdoor pool and hot tub, complete with beverage services. The coveted Amara spa was our next stop, where the stress-relieving couples massage and body treatment was just what the doctor ordered. The best bit? We’d chosen their “Stay and Relax Package during our booking. Of course, we’d ride bicycles during the day and hop onto the city shuttle at night to experience its nightlife. We’d top off the day with the most romantic meal at the onsite restaurant SaltRock, snuggling on the fire pit-dotted outdoor patio with majestic views of the red rock formations.

Where to Stay in Sedona?
Small as it might seem, Sedona is quite large and divided into three main sections – The Village of Oak Creek, Uptown, and West Sedona. Uptown is one of its most popular neighborhoods, perfect for couples and first-time visitors for its restaurants, shops, and extremely walkable vibe. Plus, it also has free shuttle services to all popular trails around the city.
Secondly, there’s West Sedona, which is famed for its serenity, tranquility, and lack of crowds. Much quieter than Uptown, this neighborhood offered us easy access to some excellent scenic drives and trails, as well as secluded, luxurious stays. If peace is what you’re after, Oak Creek is another great choice, but it has more of a family-friendly atmosphere.
Finally, there’s Tlaquepaque, which is a part of Sedona’s city center area and is calmer than Uptown. Nevertheless, it has everything from art galleries, shops, and restaurants to even courtyards with fountains and gardens.
When is the best time to visit Sedona?
For a romantic getaway, it’s best to visit Sedona towards the end of summer/beginning of fall or during spring. The weather is perfect — it’s not too hot and not too cold – and the crowds are fewer.
Which is the best part of Sedona for a quiet romantic getaway?
That would be West Sedona, but if you want to stay in Uptown, there are some fantastic resorts that are removed from the hustle and bustle. So, you can enjoy the central location while also enjoying the peace.
What are some romantic things to do in Sedona?
Couples who’re outdoor enthusiasts can go kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, and even star gazing. If you prefer staying indoors, the best way to unwind is enjoy a couple’s massage at one of its many luxurious spas, with views of the red rock landscape.
