The Lodge at Flying Horse
11
We begin with The Lodge at Flying Horse, where we attained peak levels of romantic relaxation amidst the Rocky Mountains. This boutique resort and club offerings in Northern Colorado Springs were the perfect all-around place to enjoy the outdoors as well as spend some romantic time together. We had the choice of many gorgeous lake-facing rooms and suites, and we ended up choosing the Deluxe Suite. Ours was an expansive corner suite that had a separate sleeping and living area. We loved the natural light streaming in through the windows and the views of the mountains, Pikes Peak, and the Garden of the Gods from the balcony. Moreover, our luxe bathroom not only had a shower area large enough for two people but also a bathtub that was large enough for the two of us.
Since we’d taken a package, we not only got a night’s stay off, but we were even able to squeeze in some downtime at the spa. The Spa at Flying Horse was a lovely space where wellness met luxury, and we enjoyed a 30-minute aroma soak followed by an 80-minute couple’s massage. Topping it off was the assorted fruit and cheese platter, along with our choice of champagne that was delivered to our room. We also enjoyed tee time at the golf course as well as dining at the onsite restaurant and bar with wonderful views of the surroundings.

Black Forest Lodge B&B

There’s something about rustic mountain cabins that is very romantic, and the Black Forest Lodge B&B was just that. Located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the lodge, tucked amidst Ponderosa pines, was all about panoramic views while also being just 10 minutes from the heart of Colorado Springs.
We had a wide choice of cabins here, which all came with plush beds, private bathrooms, and seating areas, and ours even had a complete kitchen. So, there were times we’d whip up light romantic meals together right in the confines and comfort of our cabin. Since there was a fridge and a microwave, we could even stock up on delicious meals we’d had outside. What’s more, our ‘honeymoon’ cabin even had a fireplace and a jetted tub, which meant we were able to spend lots of time indoors together.
Despite the Rocky Mountains location and ambiance, the B&B lodge was as modern as it could get. Amenities included high-speed Wi-Fi, a business center, and lots of open space to lounge and enjoy the Rocky Mountains scenery.

Who would have thought that a 200-acre-huge resort on the slopes of Cheyenne Mountain would turn out to be so romantic? Welcome to the Cheyenne Mountain Resort, A Dolce by Wyndham, which was also close to all of the most popular attractions of Colorado Springs, allowing us to indulge in romance as much as we were able to explore.
We were bowled over by the superb scale of the amenities here. The swimming facilities were particularly impressive, especially the Olympic-sized pool where we were able to swim laps. The other pool was more intimate where we were able to get in some quiet romantic time. Besides a Pete Dye golf course and tennis courts, there were three restaurants on the property. While the breakfasts were hearty, we loved the champagne brunch on Sunday as well as the make-your-own Sundae stations in the evening. Enjoying a nightcap in front of the massive stone fireplace before retiring to our rooms became a ritual. The highlight, though, was the couples massage and treatment at the Alluvia Spa and Wellness Retreat.
We had the choice of multiple rooms and suites across eight discrete buildings on the hillside, all with lots of spaces and private balconies. Our room, the king room, boasted a plush bed, a huge balcony with gorgeous mountain views, and a luxurious bathroom with bespoke bath products.

Most unique. Don’t be fooled by the name; Glen Eyrie Castle & Conference Center made us feel like modern-day kings and queens, and even treated us so! This historic Christ-centered property sits on beautifully landscaped grounds in Colorado Springs with spectacular views.
Our time here was most idyllic. After a hearty breakfast in the morning, we’d go hiking along one of the trails, some directly to the Garden of the Gods. After we’d be back, the grounds with benches and hammocks were perfect for lounging. We’d never miss tea time, which was as special as it got, with sandwiches, salad, soup, three-tiered sweets and canapes, and individual pots of tea! What’s more, we even enjoyed a 90-minute tour of the castle, where we learned all about its history. Two gardens on the property, Echo Rock and Rose Garden, were perfect for enjoying a walk with our significant others, while downtime even included board games and cornhole.
We had the choice of 95 rooms and suites across 7 buildings, and we chose one of the best Castle King Rooms. Ours was not only spacious, but also had an elevated four-poster bed, a glass atrium porch, a private balcony, and seating in front of a fireplace. Plus, there was a large shower for two people and a bathtub in the private bathroom. Since we’d opted for the celebrations package, our room had an assortment of handcrafted treats and a chilled bottle of nonalcoholic sparkling cider waiting for us. It also included breakfast and a deluxe celebration plate with petite cakes, assorted macarons, and Napoleon mille-feuille.

Old Town GuestHouse B&B

We wanted a B&B experience rather than a hotel, which is why we chose the Old Town GuestHouse B&B. Sitting in a gorgeous historic Victorian neighborhood, this delightful B&B sits in place of what was formerly a firehouse, jail, and city hall. However, it turned out to be one of the most romantic digs in the city. We had the choice of eight lovely themed rooms that made for exceptional digs. What’s more, the price of our room included not just breakfast, but even free off-street parking, which was a huge bonus for the neighborhood we were staying in!
All rooms offered extraordinary mountain views, but ours, the Victorian Rose room, had all the elements primed for romantic adventures. There was a fireplace right in front of our plush bed, but it was the view of Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak from our hot tub and private balcony that was incomparable. Since this was an anniversary celebration, we’d even taken their strawberries, chocolate, and champagne package. So, when we arrived, there was a bottle of iced champagne awaiting us! If that wasn’t enough, there was even a gourmet gift-boxed sampler of mixed fruits, which included fruit bites, chocolates, and strawberries — romance at its peak.
The rest of the B&B was equally impressive. Our days used to begin with hearty breakfasts comprising eggs, hot entrees, pancakes, coffee, tea, juice, and whatnot. After a long day, we’d let off some steam in the game room with pinball and a pool table or watch movies from the in-house DVD library. Free Wi-Fi and an alluring and walkable neighborhood completed the place.

The St. Mary’s Inn, Bed and Breakfast

Best B&B. Simply beautiful — that’s how we’d describe The St. Mary’s Inn, Bed and Breakfast. This B&B was the perfect nest for our romantic weekend in Colorado Springs. We enjoyed a warm welcome from high-school sweethearts Jay and Pam Piper at this charming Victorian mansion, which set the tone for our stay. What’s more, we were just a short stroll from all major attractions, allowing us to explore the city on our own time too. Our days began with the heartiest of breakfasts — eggs, French toast, and fluffy pancakes — before we headed out to explore the city.
But our most romantic moments were back at this romantic inn, where we enjoyed more than just a dreamy night’s sleep in our four-poster bed. We had the choice of nine individualized air-conditioned luxury suites, all of which boasted plush beds, flatscreen TVs, and modern, private bathrooms. However, our suite, the Rosewood Suite, was the epitome of romance. It not only had a separate sitting area and a fireplace but even had a spa-style bathroom with an oversized shower area and — the best bit — a two-person jetted hot tub with skylights.

The Mining Exchange, a Wyndham Grand Hotel and Spa

Our idea of romance is digging into the region’s past, so what better place to spend a romantic sojourn than The Mining Exchange, a Wyndham Grand Hotel and Spa? For us sophisticated city slickers, staying at this contemporarily romantic boutique hotel felt right at home. We were ideally located right in the heart of Colorado Springs, allowing us to explore the best attractions and sights in the city on what was an exploration-filled romantic vacation.
So, what made this hotel so historic? Everything! The place was formerly the Colorado Springs Mining Stock Exchange, and it still has the original steel vaults on every floor. Today, the hotel sits across four buildings in Italian Renaissance-style structures, with a touch of Art Deco. Every corner was Insta-worthy, with metal stairways, gold-hued décor, and even an antique Franz Wirth piano front and center, with a marble fireplace to complete the picture of perfection. The amenities weren’t any less impressive; besides a fitness center, the standout here was the full-service spa, where we scheduled some downtime complete with champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries. Finally, we also enjoyed digging into Creole and Cajun classics with cocktails at the onsite restaurant.
All rooms and suites here boasted different layouts, but we chose and loved the Remedy King Suite. Not only was it spacious, but it boasted huge windows, a separate seating area, and sexy green-tiled bathrooms with spacious showers for two people.

The Cliff House at Pikes Peak

Most historic. The Cliff House at Pikes Peak is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Colorado Springs. The former 1800s stagecoach stop is now a historic Rocky Mountain retreat that blends Victorian opulence with romantic luxury. Did you know that the place was once a health resort for the wealthy, with former guests including Clark Gable, Crown Prince Ferdinand, and J. Paul Getty? Yep.
The entire Victorian architecture made for a very intimate romantic ambiance, while the gracious hospitality and classic service made us feel special. Besides the fitness center, the place even had a DVD library and a fantastic staff who were all very eager to tell us all about the place’s history. Both restaurants were the romantic highlight here; we enjoyed a quiet romantic five-star dinner in the Dining Room, complete with savvy sommeliers telling us about the perfect wine pairing. However, the most romantic spot was the Red Mountain Bar & Grill, where we sipped on beers, whiskeys, and locally sourced vodkas around the firepit.
That said, the romance factor in the rooms here was out of the world, especially the Buffalo Bill Celebrity Suite. This suite not only boasted a gas fireplace for cozy evenings indoors but also a marble bathroom and our very own private spa tub for two.

Kinship Landing

Kinship Landing truly captured the essence of a romantic getaway. Located right in the heart of the town on S Nevada Avenue, the unique greenhouse-inspired thoughtful boutique hotel is a hostel and hotel all rolled into one. So, while there were shared bunk rooms and a communal kitchen, there were also lavish private rooms and suites with romantic touches. What fun!
Our city king suite was as luxurious as it got, with a deep soaking bathtub right in front of our bed and a huge floor-to-ceiling window right next to it. So, we could enjoy a soak together, sipping bubbly and taking in the views of the mountains in the distance. There was even a fireplace right next to it, allowing us to unwind in the comfort of our suite while sipping wine and enjoying the weekend getaway package. We were also enamored by the incredibly unique camp deck, where we strung a hammock, read, and listened to music.
The rest of the place had a fun communal vibe, which worked perfectly for us extroverts. We mingled with fellow travelers and couples at the onsite cafe and bar Homa, but it was the incredibly personal service that we loved. They’d keep texting us about everything, right from the best routes to get around and the best shops for wine in town to the best restaurants for dining in and take-out.

It’s hard to imagine that something called the “Garden of the Gods” will be anything but romantic, right? We’re talking about the Garden of the Gods Resort & Club, which was truly an oasis and ideal for our romantic getaway. Did you know that Yelp listed it as the number-one hotel in the US in 2022? Yes!
“We loved our time at the Garden of the Gods resort & club, as it was as luxurious as it was romantic!”
WOW Travel
It’s easy to see why, for this hotel was all about fantastic views of the nearby Garden of the Gods park. We could see the striking red rock formations from all over the place; the pool, the dining areas, and even our room’s balcony. Since the place was formerly a private club, we had club-like privileges and were treated royally. Since we’re both outdoorsy folks, we loved the 27-hole golf course, indoor/outdoor tennis courts, and the two pools, including the adults-only infinity pool where we stole some romantic time for ourselves. After pool time, we headed to the Strata Integrated Wellness Spa for a couples treatment, followed by some much-needed lounging in the Himalayan salt inhalation room. Eight restaurants meant we had a plethora of choices for food, but our favorite was watching the sun hit the red rocks as we dined on a hearty breakfast at Grand View.
Besides the 56 rooms with balconies/patios, we also had the choice of 1/2/3-bedroom cottages and bedroom casitas, and we chose the casita for our romantic sojourn. Aside from high-tech mod-cons for our comfort and Gilchrist & Soames bath products, our casita even had a private patio with water features and an inviting outdoor fireplace. Sigh.

The Broadmoor

Most luxurious. Italian Renaissance-style luxury in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains? Now that’s what we call romance. Besides us, The Broadmoor has welcomed its share of sweethearts, which also include a long list of movie stars. Tucked on 5,000 acres on the banks of Lake Cheyenne, it felt like we’d been transported to Lake Como.
Since it’s so colossal, the resort was a destination in itself and had everything that we needed for a romantic weekend without having to leave the property. It felt intimate despite the laundry list of amenities: 2 championship golf courses, 20 retail boutiques, 20 restaurants, and, our favorite, an award-winning spa with Himalayan pink salt-infused oxygen rooms and saunas. After a wonderful couples’ massage, we even hung out in the co-ed Mountain View Room with lovely views of the Rocky Mountains and the lush golf course. Finally, we could even indulge in in-room dining without having to leave our room, ensconced in our nest all day long.
Interestingly, the resort has three discrete, seasonal wilderness properties, including a fly-fishing camp, a down-home dude ranch, and, the pinnacle, all-inclusive mountaintop cabins, complete with gas fireplaces and majestic forest views. Since we wanted to indulge, we stayed in the stunning Edith Gaylord Suite atop the Lakeside Building, with panoramic views of the golf courses, the pool, the lake, and the mountains. Did we mention that we also took their superb romance package? Besides our accommodation, it included chocolate-covered strawberries and sparkling wine at turndown and dining credits of USD 200/night for all evenings of the package. If this isn’t romance, then what is? That’s why it’s one of the best places to stay in Colorado Springs.
