With beach season coming up in spring and summer, we figured this was the right time to find the perfect bathing suit to help us feel sexy, confident, and secure all season long. While a bikini wasn’t our first choice, we were looking for a little more movement than the traditional one-piece swimsuit. So, we decided to try the tankini – and once we’d tried a tankini, there was no going back! These popular ’90s swimwear comprises a tank top and a matching bikini brief – hence the name ‘tankini.’ And we still haven’t gotten over the well-priced yet stylish swimwear section at Target, even after all these years. The best tankini swimsuits at Target featured trend-forward swimwear that was not only trendy but also comfortable and delightfully affordable.
With tankini trends having evolved so much, we had the choice of many styles, whether shorts, halter necks, strappy styles, and even plus size and tummy control ones. Heck, there was even a wide range of choices for fuller-busted ladies. So, while we love the teensy stringy bikini just as much as the next woman, sometimes, we wanted traditional coverage with a bit more support. And nothing worked better than these classic, two-piece-but-looking-like-one-piece swimsuits, which left us secure without being constrained. Check out our detailed guide to the best tankinis at Target.

How To Choose The Best Tankini?
Fabric
When we went looking for tankinis, one of the first factors we looked for was the material or the fabric. Usually, all good tankinis we found were made from good quality fabric, which meant that they were not only quick-drying but chlorine resistant, too.
While a tankini offers additional coverage compared to the standard bikini, verifying that the swimsuit material has a UPF of at least 30 is still important. This protects the skin against the harmful UV rays of the sun. We looked for tankinis made from a fabric with UPF 50+ for excellent UV protection. Also, we checked the fit and the style to find products that offered additional coverage, such as mock necks, high back details, etc.
Fit and style
We searched for all kinds of stylish and flattering tankinis in a variety of different styles, colors, and prints to suit all tastes. For tankinis we’d planned to wear in the water, we looked for close-fitting ruched bodices to avoid the fabric “floating” in the water around our waist. That said, looser fits helped when we wanted to tie the extra fabric on the side while we were in the water. Also, many of these styles include in-built shelf bras, and some even have underwire options. That said, the fits of such tankinis are based on the actual bra size and not the dress size of the swimwear.
Activity
Finally, it depends on what kind of activity one is going to perform while wearing the tankinis. For instance, swimsuits for water sports usually have longer sleeves. So, if you choose tankinis with shorter sleeves, make sure that you reapply sunscreen every hour, and you should be fine.

Who should wear a tankini?
The best part about the tankini is that it can be worn by women of all body types and ages.
Do you wear a bra under a tankini?
Yes, many women choose to wear bras beneath their swimsuits, especially swimsuits that aren’t padded. In fact, if one is heavy-busted, then bras can be of great help in preventing breasts from bouncing around when they’re in the water.
How are tankini supposed to fit?
Tankinis with the right fit will sit neither too low nor too high – they’ll sit at the same level. If you find that the back of your tankini slides up your back while the front slides down, or you find the back slides down while the front rides up—this means, unfortunately, your tankini does not fit correctly.
