Aunty Lydia’s Ohana
11
Our first recommendation on this list is Aunty Lydia’s Ohana. It really gave us a chance to experience the old Hanalei charm. The house was so lovingly cared for, and it felt like a privilege to stay in a place with such a deep family history. The location was perfect, too. We were just a short walk from the beach, which was great for cooling off. The house was also really close to town, so it was easy to grab food or souvenirs. We loved being able to see the surfers from the highway and feel the pulse of North Shore life.
Another highlight of the house was the kitchen, where we could cook up fresh fish and produce we got from the farmer’s market. We enjoyed our meals outside under the carport, taking in the mountain and waterfall views. During our stay, we slept comfortably with the air conditioning in each bedroom. The beds were a good mix, with a king in the master, a queen, and two twins in another room, so our whole group fit perfectly. If you’re looking for a taste of authentic Hanalei and a relaxing home base to explore the North Shore, then Aunty Lydia’s Ohana is the perfect place to stay.

Wilikeiki

So, what’s so special about Wilikeiki? First, its location is fantastic. Just steps from the sand, this rental offered us stunning ocean views from both the living room and the lanai. Almost every morning we were woken up by the sound of the waves. Once we woke up, we would have a hearty breakfast on the lanai, watching the surfers catch some morning rides. This cottage was also well-equipped for our stay. The full kitchen allowed us to cook meals easily. Meanwhile, the cozy reading corner was a great spot to curl up with a book after a day of exploring the island.
The bedroom upstairs with the California king bed was comfortable, and having laundry facilities on the ground floor was really convenient. Even though it’s just a one-bedroom cottage, Wilikeiki had everything we needed for a relaxing retreat. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to other couples or solo travelers looking for a beachfront escape in Kauai.

Nestled amongst the lush Hawaiian foliage, the Hale Ko’olau Treehouse felt like a secret hideaway. It didn’t take long for us to be charmed by the bright and airy space. The high ceilings and beautiful furnishings created a sense of openness, while the air conditioning ensured our comfort during the warm days. This house checked all of our boxes. The master suite with its king-size bed was incredibly comfortable, and the private lanai offered breathtaking mountain views that we never tired of. We spent many mornings sipping our coffee here, taking in the fresh air and the beauty of Kauai.
Meanwhile, the open living area was perfect for cozy evenings. The little touches, like the rainforest granite countertops and handcrafted copper sinks, added a unique elegance to the space. However, one of the highlights of our stay was grilling on the BBQ in the evenings. The lanai provided the perfect setting for enjoying delicious meals under the starry sky. The whole experience at Hale Ko’olau Treehouse was truly unforgettable.

Moae House

Another addition to this list is Moae House. One of the top vacation rentals in Kauai North Shore, this house has vibrant tropical flowers and plants surrounding it. One of our favorite things to do throughout our stay was to simply relax and do nothing on the lanai. The views from there were flawless. Waking up from a nap to the sunset on the lanai was the definition of slow living. Apart from that, we’re sure you’ll adore the lush gardens.
This detached home offers more than just beauty; it’s functional too. The two bedrooms were more than enough for our group, and the winds kept us comfortable on even the warmest afternoons. We loved spending time on the nearby bluffs, marveling at the Pacific Ocean, the playful seabirds, and even whales during their migration south. For those seeking adventure, Kauai didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed tennis, horseback riding, and hiking, and for some retail therapy, there’s shopping nearby. And of course, no Hawaiian vacation is complete without the beach.

Hoku Lani

Best Decoration. Hoku Lani is a charming one-bedroom unit, which was perfect for our getaway on Kauai. The location, right near the entrance of Princeville, was ideal for exploring the North Shore. Hanalei Bay and Anini Beach, both known for their beauty, were less than a 10-minute drive away. We also loved having easy access to the rest of Princeville with its grocery stores, restaurants, and walking trails. There were so many things to see and do that we never felt bored.
This place was sparkling clean and beautifully decorated with a unique blend of Polynesian, celestial, and retro styles. We think the design deserves an A+. After a day of beach exploration, the queen-sized bed was the best place for us to call home. We also enjoyed relaxing on the lanai, catching glimpses of the ocean, and feeling the cool winds. An additional perk was having access to the Mauna Kai Condominiums’ amenities. The pool was one of the biggest on the North Shore, which always tempted us for a swimming session. We also enjoyed using the BBQ pavilion and the ping pong table.

Best for Solo Travelers. We’re sure you won’t regret staying at this Private and Beautifully Decorated Bungalow in Princeville. The minute we stepped inside, we were impressed by the spaciousness and the thoughtful updates. The high-end island furnishings were both classic and comfortable, creating a truly inviting atmosphere. One of the biggest highlights for us was the peace and quiet. No neighbors above, below, or on either side meant we could truly relax and unwind. The expansive lanai became our own private oasis. We would enjoy our breakfast each morning or sip drinks in the cool evening there.
Speaking of the lanai, the view out to the landscaped backyard bordering a tree-lined path leading directly to Anini Beach was breathtaking. We loved the convenience of having this beautiful beach just a short walk away. You can go snorkeling or relax on the white sand whenever you want to. Moreover, the main suite was a luxurious retreat, featuring a king-size Tempur-Pedic bed, a cozy seating area, and a dedicated workspace. The classic Hawaiian furnishings and native wood built-ins throughout the bungalow added a touch of local charm, and the convertible sleeper sofa in the living area provided extra sleeping space.

Lani Kai

Most Comfortable. After a stay at Lani Kai, our standard for vacation rental homes in Kauai Hawaii rose significantly. This rental is a stunning four-bedroom home nestled right on the shores of Hanalei Bay. True to its name, which translates to “Heavenly Ocean Home,” Lani Kai offered a luxurious and spacious retreat for our entire group. The house had a chic Hawaiian vibe, with slate floors, island-inspired furniture, and rich Koa wood accents everywhere we looked. We especially loved the two master bedrooms, each with a California King bed or a King bed, an ensuite bathroom with a soaking tub, and a private outdoor shower with a coconut-like tub.
The expansive living area was ideal for spending quality time together. Not to mention, the vaulted ceilings made the space feel even bigger, and the floor-to-ceiling windows brought the beauty of the outdoors right inside. We spent many happy hours lounging there, basking in the Hawaiian sunshine. Stepping outside, the lush yard with its fire pit, BBQ grill, and extra dining area was another highlight. We enjoyed delicious meals and relaxing evenings under the stars. Also, the location was simply unbeatable. It was just steps away from the turquoise waters of Hanalei Bay, where we would swim and enjoy the warmth of the sun.

Hale Mana

Hale Mana, a private estate on Kauai’s North Shore, was pure luxury from the moment we arrived. Imagine stepping onto a secluded three-acre property with breathtaking ocean views. That’s Hale Mana. The main house itself is massive. It’s 10,000 square feet and comes with five beautiful suites. We loved having all that space to spread out and relax. The amenities were incredible too. We spent countless hours swimming in the infinity pool, soaking in the hot tub, and unwinding in the steam sauna. There was even a yoga deck where we enjoyed morning stretches with a view and a media room for movie nights.
“At Hale Mana, we were pampered like kings and queens. It might be an expensive vacation rental, but the service is unbeatable.”
WOW Travel
That’s not all! We couldn’t believe it when we saw the giant amethyst gourd in the library. Apparently, it used to be in the Smithsonian. But the best part might have been the service. The staff at Hale Mana took care of everything. They arranged activities for us, from scuba diving to private yoga classes, and even set us up with a personal chef who cooked amazing meals. We felt completely pampered and relaxed the entire time.

Tiki Hut Cottage

Most Romantic. Our time at the Tiki Hut Cottage was one of the most magical. The moment you step inside, the large picture windows open right up to the lush tropical gardens, making you feel completely immersed in nature. Towering Cook pines frame the view, and skylights bring in even more light, creating a bright and airy space. Stepping out onto one of the two covered lanais, we would enjoy delicious Hawaiian appetizers and mai tais under the starry sky. It was the perfect spot for an intimate outdoor meal.
Speaking of adventure, after conquering the challenging Kalalau Trail, we couldn’t wait to soak in the private hot tub under the moonlight. It was pure serenity! The half-acre of surrounding gardens added to the feeling of seclusion, and the landscape lighting with the tiki torches created a romantic and intriguing ambiance each evening. The gardens were a paradise. We spent hours exploring the abundant flowering tropical plants, orchids, fruit trees, and water gardens. It was clear the owners were avid gardeners, and their passion for the land truly showed.

The Ikena Lani is one of those vacation homes for rent in Kauai Hawaii that offers you an unforgettable vacation. This luxurious custom home gave us a one-of-a-kind retreat. When we arrived, we were immediately surrounded by breathtaking ocean views. The award-winning design was evident everywhere we looked. The entire house had a serene feel, with beautiful hand-picked materials imported all the way from Asia. What’s more, Ikena Lani was incredibly spacious. With six bedrooms, there was plenty of room for our whole group to relax and unwind. We loved cozying up in the evenings in the media room, and the spacious living room and kitchen were our go-to places for group meals and gatherings.
However, the real stars of the show were the outdoor amenities. We spent God knows how long relaxing by the black bottom pool, soaking in the spa, and enjoying the tranquility of the koi ponds. On top of that, the wrap-around lanai overlooking the ocean and mountains was the best spot to unwind and take in the incredible scenery. Ikena Lani truly lived up to its hype. It was paradise found. Dolphin House

Most Luxurious. If you want to go all out and want to experience something extra fancy, rent the Dolphin House! We’ve explored so many vacation rentals on Kauai North Shore, but this one is certainly the crown jewel. When we arrived, we were instantly blown away. This place is massive – the largest oceanfront rental property in all of Hanalei Bay! The grounds were meticulously landscaped, with sprawling lawns leading all the way down to the beach. It felt like we were transported to a Hawaiian castle. The inside of the house also impressed us.
We loved the cherry floors and the granite bathrooms, which made everything feel so luxurious. The kitchen had top-of-the-line appliances, and the whole place had a great open floor plan. We spent most of our time relaxing on the lanai, enjoying the ocean views, but the sliding glass doors made it easy to go back and forth between the indoor and outdoor living spaces. The house also had all the modern amenities we could ask for. Think security system, air conditioning, and strong Wi-Fi. Oh, have we told you there are six ridiculously big bedrooms on the property?
