Who would’ve thought this cool hotel is a Boone, North Carolina yoga retreat? Say hello to The Horton Hotel! We loved that it’s right on a street full of shops and restaurants, so you can wander out for coffee or art browsing in minutes. However, what truly pulled us in was what happens on the roof every Wednesday.
That’s when they roll out the mats for rooftop yoga at 11:30 AM. For 18 USD, you get the class, a mat if you don’t have one, refreshing spa water, and some of the most insane 360-degree views of downtown Boone. It’s the kind of setting where holding a Warrior II while looking out over the mountains feels effortless, at least until your legs start shaking.
After class, it’s hard not to linger. The rooftop bar has a fire pit, perfect for a post-yoga cocktail or just people-watching while the day drifts by. As if that’s not enough, you should also note that the hotel is pet-friendly.

Staying here, the city’s pulse was right outside the door, with Uptown Charlotte’s mix of art, green spaces, and skyline views pulling us in. Being across from Romare Bearden Park meant we could people-watch from the lobby before deciding whether we were in the mood for a museum visit, a stroll in the park, or just a lazy coffee on the terrace.
What won us over, though, was how this place treated wellness as more than just a treadmill in the corner. The 1,100 sq ft fitness center was like a boutique gym. It has sleek machines, plenty of space, and an energy that actually made us want to work out. But the yoga studio with its mountain backdrop was the real showstopper, and we knew right away that’s where we’d be most mornings.
