Best Historic. It has been a while since our stay at The Lafayette Hotel, Swim Club & Bungalows, but we still can’t get over it. This historic hotel, with its glamorous past and vibrant present, made us feel like we were 1940s movie stars. When we first arrived, we were instantly enchanted by the beautiful lobby with its Art Deco design.
But if you think it’s fantastic, wait until you see the rooms. Our Family Suite was a riot of textures, patterns, and colors. Our suite featured a king bed and a charming bunk bed nook. Canopy beds with tiger-striped fabric, snake-shaped reading lamps, and hand-painted rococo toilets created an atmosphere that felt simultaneously luxurious and whimsical.
The culinary experience at the Lafayette is a delightful adventure. Beginners, the 1940s-style diner, serves luxe spins on Americana classics. We couldn’t get enough of the banana bread pudding French toast. Meanwhile, Quixote, the Oaxacan restaurant, offers innovative dishes like the show-stopping crab corn doughnut topped with blue crab and caviar. Need a drink? The lobby bar serves New Orleans-style cocktails, while the pool bar offers tropical drinks. And let’s not forget the in-room bar, stocked with nearly 50 spirits and cocktail tutorials.
