We’d heard great things about Yoo2 Rio de Janeiro, and the online reviews convinced us to give it a try. Now, we can say it lives up to its hype as one of Rio’s trendiest hotels. First of all, Yoo2 is well located. Staying here, you’ll be close to Flamengo, the airport, and downtown. You’ll also enjoy views of Sugarloaf, Guanabara Bay, and Corcovado.

Speaking of views, our room had large windows that made the view part of the experience, and we appreciated being able to choose which landmark we wanted to wake up to. Everything was so well thought out and comfortable! We’re not surprised if you think this is a 5-star hotel.

Like most beach hotels, Yoo2 also boasts a rooftop space. The pool area offers one of the best panoramic views we saw during our trip, and it was always uncrowded. The rooftop bar was a highlight as well, with relaxed music and a great atmosphere, a great hangout spot if you don’t feel like venturing out.

Windsor Excelsior Copacabana

If you love our previous pick, you’ll also love the beachfront Windsor Excelsior Copacabana. We’re pretty sure the name alone already gives you an image of how well-located the hotel is. Major sights were within reach, and the neighborhood felt lively without being overwhelming.

We were lucky to be there on a Sunday, when the beachfront road is closed to cars. Walking along the boardwalk with locals, runners, and cyclists gave us a real sense of daily life in Rio.

We booked the Executive Double Room, and it was just as spotless as we hoped for. Moreover, having the sea right outside made a noticeable difference to the overall experience. The rooftop pool was also worth mentioning, offering a relaxed place to unwind while looking out over the beach.

JANEIRO Hotel

Best Boutique. When it comes to boutique beach hotels in Rio de Janeiro, JANEIRO Hotel is among the best. Being right across from Leblon Beach, we could touch the sands whenever we wanted with ease. Morning walks along the shore and watching the light change over the ocean from the hotel? Say no more!

There are only 51 rooms and suites on the property, and there are only a handful on each floor. While the ocean-facing rooms are clearly the highlight (we enjoyed ours), even the side-facing ones still offer partial sea views, which makes your stay feel special regardless of room category.

One of our favorite spots was the rooftop on the top floor, where the infinity pool looks straight out to the ocean. It’s a quiet, peaceful space, perfect for a swim or just sitting with a drink from the small bar nearby. The location was also a big plus. We were close to casual juice spots and within walking distance of great restaurants and shops. No car needed!

Miramar by Windsor Copacabana

Most Pet-Friendly. Miramar by Windsor Copacabana is set by Posto 5 on Copacabana Beach. Yes, the location is great, but the rooftop pool was the highlight for us. Spending time there with a clear view of the ocean was the most special time we had at the hotel. The views were even more stunning than the pictures on the internet.

As expected from one of the best hotels in Rio de Janeiro, the rooms are spotless and feature a smart layout so you won’t feel cramped. We booked one of the higher-floor suites, and we highly recommend that. It has generous space and balconies with sweeping views of the beach below. Not to mention, this hotel also welcomes four-legged travelers with a set of pet amenities.

One thing we appreciated was how easy the hotel made beach days. Crossing the street brought us straight to the sand, where towels and umbrellas were already taken care of. It made spending time at Copacabana simple and stress-free, and we found ourselves going back and forth between the beach and the hotel without any hassle.

Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana

Just like the other hotels on this list, the location of Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana is fantastic. Sitting right at the edge of Copacabana Beach, the hotel has uninterrupted views of the ocean and landmarks like Sugarloaf, one of the most beautiful places in Brazil. We particularly liked how we were away from the busiest parts of the beach.

When it comes to the room options, you’ll always win as they’re nothing short of gorgeous and equipped with all the essentials. Ours even opened onto a balcony facing the water. We also had access to the Fairmont Gold lounge, which made arrival smoother and mornings more peaceful, especially during breakfast when the hotel itself can get lively.

That’s not all! We spent a lot of time by the rooftop pools (yes, plural), especially the one overlooking the beach. Meals were a highlight, too, from refined local dishes at the main restaurant to casual coffee and açaí breaks with a view. With the spa, beach club, and nearby spots just steps away, we rarely felt the need to leave the area.

Emiliano Rio

When we think of tropical sophistication in Rio, Emiliano Rio comes to mind right away. The hotel opened in 2016 on Copacabana Beach and feels like a modern upgrade to one of the city’s most classic locations. It has a clean, contemporary look that fits naturally along the shoreline, making it the perfect choice for modern travelers.

We stayed in one of the waterfront rooms, and our time there was easily our favorite part of the stay. The interiors lean into Brazilian modernism, with thoughtful furniture choices, a private balcony, and a spacious bathroom with a walk-in shower. Like many other hotels, the sea views are front and center, and the adjustable shutters allow you to have full privacy.

The rooms aren’t the only mind-blowing thing. Enter the rooftop pool. The L-shaped pool offers wide-open views of the beach, the ocean, and Sugarloaf Mountain, making it an easy place to spend a few hours. We’d also recommend making time for a meal at Emile Restaurant, which delivers one of the most memorable modern Brazilian dining experiences we had in the city.

CDesign Hotel

Best Value for Money. Want to be wiser with your money? Consider staying at CDesign Hotel, one of the most popular beach hotels in Rio de Janeiro! The second we arrived, we were impressed by the staff. The reception was efficient, and everyone was polite and attentive, with bell staff and security readily available. Multiple elevators made access to our room easy, and we also appreciated the scented corridors.

We stayed in a Seafront Room with a small balcony overlooking Recreio beach. It was spotless, bright, and fragrant, with very comfortable bedding and high-quality linens. The bathroom was super clean, featuring a glass panel that could switch between clear and frosted at the touch of a button, along with a strong shower and good amenities.

The rooftop was one of our favorite areas, with a heated infinity pool, bar, fitness center, sauna, and spa available at an extra cost. We were welcomed by an attendant and given fresh towels through an easy exchange system. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable, especially in the late afternoon, and breakfast was excellent, offering a wide variety of fresh, high-quality options in a spacious setting with beautiful sea views. Totally what we expected considering the rates here!

Santa Teresa Hotel

Santa Teresa Hotel turned our amazing trip into a flawless one without breaking a sweat. Set in the hills of the Santa Teresa neighborhood, it’s much more intimate than the usual beach-centered stay. Walking through the property, we saw details like fruit trees and quiet corners that made us forget how busy the city could be. But if you need to socialize, the beach is right below!

Our Deluxe King Room also reflected the hotel’s strong design focus. Thoughtful touches like soft bathrobes, fresh orchids, and large wood-framed mirrors made the space feel comfortable. It was easy to see why the hotel attracts well-traveled guests looking for something distinctive.

One of the highlights of our stay was dining at the hotel’s restaurant, which lived up to its reputation as a standout in the city. We also spent time at the terrace bar, where the rum selection showcased Brazil’s diversity beyond the usual cocktails. Throughout the hotel, local art and handmade pieces added character, and we appreciated being able to take a closer look and even bring a few items home.

Hotel Fasano Rio de Janeiro

Nothing oozes exclusivity as effortlessly as Hotel Fasano. Set on Ipanema Beach, it’s one of the most fashion-forward hotels in the whole of Rio. When we first went there, we were in awe of its modern design. It was chic, sophisticated, and cool. Aside from that, the service was also smooth and professional.

However, the highlight for us was the rooftop area. The pool overlooks Ipanema and Arpoador, with wide-open views that stretch all the way to the Two Brothers mountains. Around sunset, the rooftop bar becomes the place to be, with guests gathering to watch the sky change colors. Turning around, we could also spot Christ the Redeemer in the distance.

Since we wanted to go all out, we opted for the Suite. It was sleek, comfortable, and had huge windows that made the ocean feel close at all times. We also dined at the hotel’s Italian restaurant, Gero, which doesn’t have scenery to compete with the rooftop but easily makes up for it with excellent food. The pasta and risotto were standouts.

PortoBay Rio de Janeiro

Best Views. PortoBay Rio de Janeiro is all about convenience. We never had to walk far thanks to its location. Restaurants, bars, and cafés were just steps away, so exploring the neighborhood felt effortless both during the day and at night. It’s a great base if you want to be surrounded by the energy of the area.

Of course, the views from the hotel are great, too. For the best pictures, we recommend heading to the rooftop area, so make sure to fully charge your phone! From the pool and lounge area, we had a clear look at Copacabana Beach and the ocean. Many of the rooms also face the sea, which means the view is part of the stay, not just a bonus. Even the gym on the upper floor overlooks the coastline.

Speaking of which, our room wasn’t big, but we had the best time there. What mattered most was that the bed was super cozy! Waking up was honestly so hard, not because we were tired, but because the bed was too good.

Copacabana Palace

Best Luxury. Copacabana Palace is a 5-star landmark in Rio, and it’s easily one of, if not the best choice for beachgoers. As the name suggests, this hotel is located exactly on Copacabana Palace, with views along the shoreline and out toward the surrounding landmarks. Although there are many other new hotels in the area, it still felt well-maintained when we were there.

One of the things we appreciated the most was the massive size of our room, which was made even better by the ocean view. We couldn’t complain about a single thing, especially when we could wake up to the sight of the beach every single day. On top of that, every single amenity worked perfectly. No minuses!

Dining was another strong point. The breakfast that we had was varied and fresh, and we particularly loved the fresh tropical fruits. Plus, Mee, the on-site Pan-Asian restaurant, is a destination on its own for dinner thanks to its wagyu and wine. And if you’re the active type, you’ll definitely want to take advantage of the tennis courts and state-of-the-art gym.

Where to Stay in Rio de Janeiro

If you come to Rio de Janeiro with the beach in mind, we have a few recommendations. First, it’s none other than the iconic Copacabana, Rio’s most iconic beach neighborhood and often the first choice for visitors. Stretching for miles, the beach is always alive with joggers, volleyball games, and sunbathers at every hour of the day. Staying here puts you right in the middle of the action, with easy access to restaurants, beach kiosks, nightlife, and public transport. On top of that, Copacabana also has the widest range of hotels.

Just around the corner, Ipanema offers a more stylish and refined beach experience. The sand is cleaner, the crowd trendier, and the neighborhood itself is highly walkable, with excellent restaurants, boutiques, and bars. Ipanema’s beach culture is famously divided by “postos” (lifeguard stations), each with its own vibe, and sunsets here are considered some of the best in the city.

Next to Ipanema, Leblon is the most upscale and relaxed of the three. Known for its quieter beach, Leblon offers a calmer atmosphere while still delivering beautiful ocean views and top-tier dining. The beaches here are usually not as crowded, the hotels are more luxurious, and the overall experience is more sophisticated.
