Cliff House at Pikes Peak, Manitou Springs
11
Our family of all adults are history and culture nuts, so we had to stay at the Cliff House at Pikes Peak. This 1873-built Victorian-era jewel was originally intended as a stagecoach stop between Leadville and Colorado Springs. So, it’s not surprising that it’s had world-renowned entertainers, presidents, and even royalty as past guests.
Today, we can see their names on the distinctly unique and extremely well-designed digs: the Clark Gable, the Teddy Roosevelt, and the Katharine Bates, to name a few. We loved the special-occasion getaway feel of the rooms and suites, which had heated towel racks, steam showers, and bathtubs for two people. Since we were a party of six adults, it suited our family perfectly. No wonder it’s also considered one of Colorado Springs’ most romantic hotels.
Since it sat right off the main street in Manitou Springs, we had no issues exploring the city before heading back to the hotel for a meal or drink at one of the two restaurants. Even then, we were just 20 minutes from the city center of Colorado Springs.

Best budget-friendly. Since we’re eco-conscious travelers, we were thrilled to stumble upon the SCP Hotel Colorado Springs. SCP, which stands for Soul Community Planet, is a group of hotels offering sustainable stays but sans all the usual eco-preachiness, which we and the rest of the family appreciated. Plus, we also loved the hotel’s design, which was the perfect blend of sustainable practices and Scandinavian minimalism. The eco-friendly design even extended to our minimalist room, which was bright and airy with plant-based foam mattresses, locally-made furniture, eco-friendly bath products, and whatnot. Moreover, they even had yoga mats and Himalayan salt lamps, making for a relaxing atmosphere perfect for our Colorado Springs family vacation.
Since we as a family are all about wellness, we loved the focus here. Not only were there yoga and cardio classes but also they would plant a tree for every stay. So, we felt a lot better about our carbon footprint as we sipped craft coffee in the lobby. After a long day of exploring the city and indulging in outdoor adventures, the outdoor pool was a huge welcome. For those who prefer workouts, there was also the state-of-the-art fitness center with a variety of equipment. Are you looking for a more mindful experience? There was even a meditation room in the hotel that was a peaceful retreat indeed.

Best location. Nestled against the majestic Rocky Mountains, the Cheyenne Mountain Resort was the perfect serene family-friendly escape sitting just 10 minutes south of the heart of Colorado Springs. Its biggest selling point is the location, as it offered us spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains, no matter where we were.
However, this resort was absolutely fun for the kids due to the plethora of kid-friendly amenities, starting with the five indoor and outdoor pools. We spent our days by the outdoor pool, which had a Kidz Splash Pad, perfect for the kiddos to jump and swim around. When the kids were sleeping, the adults-only pool was our savior for some much-needed quiet, followed by some time at the Alluvia Spa. We also took advantage of the Pete Dye-designed golf course for some tee time and wonderful views. Another huge surprise for the kids was the private beach — who knew Colorado Springs had beaches? We spent hours on the banks of the 35-acre lake, which had water sports, picnic spots, and more. While there were three restaurants, the kids loved the Mountain View Restaurant for its all-you-can-eat buffets. Did we mention that kids ate free here? Yes!
The rooms and suites at Cheyenne Resort in Colorado Springs are what drew us here in the first place. While they had spacious rooms, the choice of suites was excellent for our large family. Did we mention that our One-Bedroom Junior Suite even had two balconies overlooking the golf course? Yes!

We can’t get over our fantastic experience staying at the Flying Horse Resort & Club, a AAA Four Diamond Hotel that’s one of the best luxury hotels in Colorado Springs. The resort lived up to its repute as a luxury resort, thanks to its excellent range of amenities and superb service.
One of the highlights of our stay was when we got the opportunity to enjoy some tee time at their two championship golf courses, complete with stunning mountain views. While the kids were being babysat, we enjoyed some much-needed downtime at The Spa at Flying Horse is a must-visit. However, the most fun we had was with the children at the outdoor pool, an immaculate space surrounded by breathtaking mountain views. With delicious poolside snacks and drinks, comfy lounge chairs, and plush towels, it’s no wonder it’s one of Colorado Springs’ best hotel pools. We weren’t disappointed when it came to dining either; the onsite restaurants served a whole lot of variety when it came to cuisine.
We had the choice of many amazing lake-facing rooms and suites, and we chose the Deluxe Corner Suite for its separate living and sleeping areas. Besides the natural light streaming in, we had fantastic views of the Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, and the mountains from our balcony.

Kinship Landing

We’re a family of four adults and wanted to stay somewhere in the heart of Downtown, and we couldn’t find a better place than Kinship Landing. One of Colorado Springs’ best boutique hotels, we also loved it for its unique and thoughtful design, especially for adult families. We had the choice of many suites, but the City King suites were as luxurious as they got for the heart of Colorado Springs. Not only did they have plush beds and floor-to-ceiling windows with excellent views, but they also had deep soaking bathtubs right in front of the bed. Did we mention that there were fireplaces too? After a long day of exploring the city, we could spend some time in our suites without feeling like we were completely indoors. Do check out their weekend getaway packages.
The rest of the hotel was incredibly unique. We were completely taken in by the unique camp deck, where we strung hammocks, listened to music, read, and spent time together. Even the Home Bar and Cafe was unlike any hotel lobby we’d ever seen. The open-to-the-public base camp with community tables, fireside lounges, and cozy booths was the perfect place to drink, eat, make merry, and mingle with other guests.

The Mining Exchange

It’s interesting that the Western Museum of Mining and Industry, which interprets and preserves Colorado and the American West’s rich mining history, lies right in Colorado Springs. So, we weren’t surprised to know that there was a historic hotel in the city that occupied the former site of the Colorado Springs Mining Stock Exchange. We’re talking about The Mining Exchange, a gorgeous hotel sitting across four Italian Renaissance-style-cum-Art Deco structures in the heart of the town. Not only does it retain old touches like original steel vaults on every floor, a marble fireplace, and metal stairways, but it also complements it with antiques like a Franz Wirth piano and gold-hued décor to boot.
Since we’re a family of history nuts, we were thrilled to stay at this hotel, where the concierge gave us some excellent tips to explore the area and the hotel. The amenities weren’t any less impressive; aside from a fitness center, the highlight was the full-service spa. After a long day of outdoorsy adventures, we scheduled some downtime at the spa, accompanied by chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne. The onsite restaurant was terrific, serving delicious Cajun and Creole classics with cocktails. However, we were most impressed by the Gold Room at the hotel, which is also a music venue.
All rooms and suites had different layouts, but we chose and loved the Remedy Suite with two queen beds. It not only had two bedrooms but also a gorgeous bathroom, a seating area with a TV, and lovely decor.

The Antlers, A Wyndham Hotel

The Antlers, A Wyndham Hotel, is one of the best hotels in Colorado Springs for families like ours. Since we were visiting the city when it was already starting to get quite chilly, we were thankful for the indoor pool. The kids had a great time here, especially after a long day of exploring the city. Of course, when the weather was nice and warm, the outdoor pool was superb, with views of the city and the mountains as the perfect backdrop. The family was thrilled with the rest of the amenities too. Not only was there an onsite fitness center, a restaurant, and a bar, but we even had spa and salon privileges at its sister hotel, the Mining Exchange right down the street. Now that’s what we call modern conveniences!
For a downtown hotel, we were impressed by the space in the rooms, even the standard entry-level ones. Since we were a family of four adults, we chose the King Suite with mountain views. It not only had a huge bed but also a separate living space with a sofa bed. So, we were super comfortable, especially since there was lots of storage space, a spacious and luxurious bathroom, a flat-screen TV, and even a small fridge and a coffeemaker.

Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort

As a family, we’re all crazy about cycling as a sport and a recreational activity. Hence, it was a no-brainer to stay at the fun-filled Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort. Run by four generations of cyclists, this family-owned motel leans hard into the “Colorado lifestyle.” That’s why it not only sits in a prime spot for biking trails and has bike rentals but even has cycling-themed rooms. That’s the reason our cycling-crazy family chose to stay here.
The entire property had a casual charm that made it feel like we were at a fun family and friends sleepover rather than a formal hotel stay, complete with a lively atmosphere and cozy rooms. All rooms and suites were on the ground floor, allowing us to ride our bikes right into our rooms and hang them on the walls! Moreover, we loved the orientation of the rooms, either facing each other or next to each other, allowing us all to stay close despite staying in different units. The best bit was the roster of special events, like food truck gatherings, concerts, and open mic nights hosted here, which ensured that we had a lot of fun.

Best kid-friendly amenities. “Kid-friendly” is the main motto at the Great Wolf Lodge, which sat just 10 minutes north of the city center of Colorado Springs.
The main draw here is the indoor waterpark, where the children had an absolute blast. Not only did it boast 13 thrilling slides, but it even boasted a massive, jaw-dropping 79,000 sq ft pool, the centerpiece of all the fun. We were particularly blown away by the poolside dance party, where people and families of all ages grooved to the music, having an amazing time. Moreover, we enjoyed an excellent pool time too, as we rested on the loungers with the kids playing nearby and the beautiful scenery surrounding us.
While the main attraction was the indoor waterpark, there was a whole lot of other fun awaiting us. These included the arcade, where the kids would have fun for hours, a mini golf course, a ropes course, and even a bowling alley. Finally, with six restaurants on the property, the kids were never bored when it came to food. The rooms were suitably amazing and spacious, ensuring that we enjoyed a wonderfully memorable vacation.

Garden of the Gods Resort and Club

If you think that the Garden of the Gods Resort and Club sounds exclusive, that’s because it sure feels and sounds like it, even if it’s not. Lying not far from the eponymous natural landmark, this sprawling resort sits in a private country club that made for a truly refined staying experience for our entire family. While the USP is fantastic views of the Garden of the Gods park, the fact is that we could see the striking rock formations from everywhere, no matter where we were in the resort.
Since it was a private club earlier, our family was treated royally and we thoroughly enjoyed club-like privileges. Since we’re all outdoors lovers, we loved the indoor/outdoor tennis courts and the 27-hole golf course, but our favorite was the two pools. Thanks to the presence of the adults-only pool, we enjoyed some quiet family time before heading to the Strata Integrated Wellness Spa for a nice massage and treatment session. Finally, eight restaurants ensured that we were never short of choices when it came to food. However, we did have a favorite: the Grand View, where we savored heart breakfasts watching the sun hit the red rocks.

The Broadmoor

Most kid-friendly. The Broadmoor might be an iconic, century-old Colorado Springs resort, but it has to be the most kid-friendly resort on this list for more reasons than one.
“Staying at the Broadmoor was fun with the kids, but in a luxurious manner!”
WOW Travel
For one, it’s one of the very few places in the region to have a kids’ camp and club on the property. We’re talking about “The Bee Bunch,” which offers camps for children aged 3-12 years old. The camp was active when we were here and our kids had a blast. When we wanted to enjoy some downtime at the spa or the pool, there were babysitting and childcare services to take over for us. Later, when we’d get the entire family together, we enjoyed meals at the 11 exceptional restaurants on the property, including Play, a fun take on a family-friendly eatery, complete with a bowling alley! Since it was summer, we even paddleboated on the Cheyenne Lake. Did we mention that they even hosted complimentary family movies every night at the movie theater when we stayed here? It was the best way to end a lovely day.
Even the rooms and suites here were no less excellent, being traditional and comfortable at the same time. While we had the choice of spacious regular rooms, we chose the two-bedroom cottage, which was a completely different way to experience staying here. Two bedrooms, a cozy living room, two modern bathrooms, balconies, a fully-equipped kitchen, and lake and mountain views — need we say more?
