With our entire family being huge Major League Baseball fans and with the kids playing baseball, too, the great ballparks of the Midwest have always fascinated us. Of them all, the topmost item on our MLB bucket list was watching the Cardinals play at the famed Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. And let us be the ones to tell you that the experience surpassed our already high and wonderful expectations! What made this bucket list trip all the better was staying in a hotel in St Louis, MO, close to the baseball stadium. After all, what could be better than staying close to where the St. Louis Cardinals were playing besides watching them play? What’s more, we found a wide variety of hotels across budgets, sizes, and vibes, and the sheer number of choices made our selecting a stay around Busch Stadium all the more difficult!
That said, St. Louis is more than just the Cardinals. For one, the Gateway City has great historical significance, with legendary adventurers Lewis & Clark walking its hallowed grounds. What’s more, it also hosts one of the country’s largest Mardi Gras celebrations, is the birthplace of the ice cream cone, and is home to the country’s largest beer-producing plant. Yes! To that end, here’s our guide to the best places to stay to catch the Cardinals games in the ‘Rome of the West.’

Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark

Best Busch stadium views. The Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark doesn’t just have an envious location; it’s also one of the best family hotels in St. Louis! So, it was an excellent place for us to stay since we visited the city with a bunch of enthusiastic kids who were also huge MLB fans. Not only was the Busch Stadium a stone’s throw away, but most of St. Louis’ major attractions, including the Gateway Arch, were within walking distance!
We had many choices of rooms and suites here, and what we loved about this Hilton property was that they offered confirmed connecting rooms. This was very important to us since we were traveling with kids, and we appreciated the thoughtful amenity. What’s more, the best digs in the house offer Busch Stadium, and they’re divided across different floors and room categories. Our chosen room on a higher floor with two queen beds gave us stupendous views of the home of the Cardinals. Moreover, the room was amazing when it came to amenities – plush Serenity beds, HDTV, free Wi-Fi, and even Peter Thomas Roth bath products in the luxe bathroom.
“Staying next to the Busch Stadium has always been a pipedream – and the Hilton property was magnificent!”
WOW Travel
The rest of the hotel didn’t disappoint either, given that it’s a Hilton property. The kids loved the spacious indoor pool while we enjoyed some much-needed us-time at the jacuzzi. In fact, even the pool had superb Busch Stadium views from the floor-to-ceiling windows. A fitness center aside, the rooftop bar was the perfect place to enjoy a drink with spectacular views on baseball nights. While the kids had the time of their lives at the restaurant, we could also order food from the adjacent restaurants.

The opening day of the MLB season is always thrilling, but perhaps the excitement was highest at Live! by Loews St. Louis. Sitting right across the street from Busch Stadium, this hotel is as luxurious as it’s known for its pregame vibe on opening day. Not only did we enjoy the electrifying atmosphere here, but we did so with delicious libations and listening to the tunes of a live DJ! In fact, the hotel and the stadium just have an outdoor “mock” baseball diamond for events between them – that’s how close to Busch Stadium we were. If that wasn’t enough, we could even hop onto the Ballpark Village shuttle that’s offered for special and sporting events – it’s right outside the Loews’ front door. It’s no wonder it’s also one of St. Louis’ best 5-star hotels.
While there are some excellent rooms and suites on offer here, the stadium-view rooms are very popular, so we naturally chose them. In fact, Loews even offers special discounts and packages, such as the tailgate rate, which includes late checkout, an everyday USD 25 F&B credit, and even a complimentary upgrade to the next available room category. Moreover, our room was spacious, with a flat-screen TV, a fridge, a coffee machine, and chic bathrooms.
Just like other Loews hotels, the St Louis outpost features a shared lounge, a fitness center, and a lovely terrace overlooking the stadium. Moreover, there’s even a bar and restaurant serving American cuisine, a business center, and even an onsite ATM machine.

The Westin St. Louis

Most romantic. We’re both major Cardinals fans, so what better way to add some romance to the mix? We’re talking about The Westin St. Louis, one of the most romantic hotels in St. Louis. The best bit? It sits right across from the third base entrance of Busch Stadium, home to the Cardinals! Hence, it’s a perfect hotel to attend a game and well within walking distance if you want to visit the Gateway Arch. It’s what made our romantic St. Louis vacation all the better.
All rooms this this Westin outpost were styled in rich brown hues, and we loved the offerings – a minibar, in-room movies, and a spacious bathroom with a deep soaking tub. What’s more, we loved the tall ceilings of our Deluxe King room, which faced the stadium entrance and walls. Even though it was incredibly spacious, it looked even larger than it actually was due to the ceiling’s height. The enormous windows were certainly a highlight, and it was the perfect place for a staycation when we weren’t watching the games.
On days when we stayed in and went out, the first-floor warehouse-themed restaurant would be our first stop. Not only did it serve lip-smacking fare, but also it had an interactive display kitchen where we could actually watch the chefs whip up delicious meals. Thanks to the concierge and car rental services, we had a fabulous time watching the Cardinals play and even got to explore the city. The highlight was the luxury spa, where a couple’s massage was the best way to unwind after a long and spirited day.

We were looking for a unique hotel stay in St. Louis close to Busch Stadium when we chanced upon the historic Missouri Athletic Club. The 1903-founded private city and Athletic Club is also a hotel and sits right down the Ballpark Village on North Broadway. Even though it’s a 15-minute walk, why we liked this hotel is that it provides a free shuttle transfer to downtown attractions and sporting events, including the Cardinals games at Busch Stadium! So, staying here made a lot of sense.
The best bit of all was that we didn’t have to be members to stay overnight in one of the 74 rooms and suites here, a feature we appreciated. What’s more, every room came with free Wi-Fi, which helped us plan our St. Louis itinerary around the baseball games. Since we booked a suite, our space even had a living room with a seating area where we’d enjoy our morning cup of coffee every day. At the end of a long day, we’d watch our favorite movies on cable TV while lying sprawled out on the comfortable beds.
Since it’s a club, there were some features we found to be quirky, like free weekly newspapers being available at the front desk. Apart from this, the hotel even had two restaurants on the property, one which offered casual American fare and the other being a grille and bar.

Best boutique hotel. Just because we would be staying in downtown St. Louis didn’t mean that we had to change our living styles, which meant looking for a boutique hotel. And what better boutique stay in St. Louis than the eponymous Hotel Saint Louis, Autograph Collection? One of the loveliest St. Louis boutique hotels, this historic hotel was just a 10-minute walk from Busch Stadium. So, we were a hop, skip, and jump away from the amazing Cardinals baseball games.
Since we prefer the suite set-up when we travel, we had a ton of staying options at this historic hotel. Of the 140 digs, 52 are suites that feature fantastic views and gorgeous architectural elements. We loved the addition of thoughtful mod-cons, like a minibar, plush bathrobes, and even a coffeemaker in our suite. It was perfect to brew up a cup of Joe and unwind after a relaxing bath right in the confines of our digs. In fact, our suite even had a patio, which offered some of the most splendid views in the city.
Since this is a Marriott property, we already knew that the amenities here would be top-notch, and we weren’t disappointed. Besides a fabulous restaurant that served delicious meals, the property also had a bar where we’d enjoy nightcaps at the end of a long day. Since we were here in summer, we also enjoyed swimming laps at the seasonal outdoor swimming pool. Later on, we’d head to the spa to unwind with a body treatment or a massage.

Imagine finding an amazing hotel right down the street from Busch Stadium, but one that didn’t burn a hole in your pocket! That’s what happened to us when we found the Magnolia Hotel St. Louis, one of St. Louis’ best cheap hotels, but it looked nothing like it. What’s more, it was just a 10-minute walk to Busch Stadium, so we never missed even the pregame atmosphere around.
Originally known as the Mayfair Hotel when it was built in 1924, the Magnolia impressed us with its room sizes, especially since the prices were not so high. Not only were the rooms comfortable and spacious, but they also offered spectacular city views and came with a host of mod-cons. This included everything from luxe bathrooms with complimentary bath products to cable TVs. Plus, thanks to the free Wi-Fi, we could easily plan and change our St. Louis itineraries on the fly.
When the hunger pangs came calling, we’d head down to the only but excellent restaurant, which offered classic American dishes for all meals. After we’d be done exploring for the day, there would be complimentary cookies and milk awaiting us at the Magnolia, which certainly made our stay experience here memorable.

We wanted to watch the Cardinals play as much as we wanted to soak in the history of St. Louis. That’s how we found ourselves staying at the St. Louis Union Station Hotel, Curio Collection By Hilton. As the name suggests, this gorgeous sits right within the iconic St. Louis Union Station building. So, we were a mere five-minute drive from Busch Stadium while staying in the city’s most storied spot.
The 1894-built station-turned-1978-built lavish hotel beautifully blends nostalgia with modern living touches. We loved snapping photographs of elegant historic touches like the wooden carpentry and the stained glass windows. If that wasn’t enough, the vibe extended to its 500+ rooms, all of which pay homage to Union Station’s history. Modern touches like flatscreen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and swanky bathrooms beautifully complement them.
The rest of the hotel has the same 19th-century atmosphere, with the lobby boasting Tiffany-stained glass windows. While the restaurant is excellent, the breathtaking Grand Hall Lounge is where we loved digging into appetizers and drinking cocktails every evening. Despite being a historic hotel, this place had a sensational outdoor swimming pool with a super-high partial covering. So, we could enjoy a swim when the sun was out too.
All in all, staying at this Historic Hotels of America member transported us back to an extraordinary era in an entirely modern setting.

Best B&B. Choosing historic hotels to stay in St. Louis is difficult – there are so many! But when it came to choosing a B&B close to Busch Stadium that was also historic, Lehman House Bed and Breakfast was a no-brainer. Not only is it one of St. Louis’ historic hotels, but it also happens to be its longest continuously running B&B! If that wasn’t enough, it sits in the leafy neighborhood of Lafayette Square and is less than a 10-minute drive from Busch Stadium.
The 1893-built Romanesque Revival mansion charmed us the minute we set our eyes on it, complete with a spiral turret room and a covered front porch. Even on the inside, old-world touches like ornamental rugs and antique tables leave lasting impressions. At the same time, the B&B felt incredibly homey. For instance, our days began with fantastically detailed breakfasts, which included everything from fresh fruit to pastries. In fact, owner Marie Davies even hand-delivered them to our room! That, along with full four-course meals on the dining table, made us feel like we never wanted to leave.
Each room here boasts a special character and comes with mod-cons and even private baths. What’s more, they even have seating areas where one can relax. Our room had a flatscreen TV where we could watch our favorite movies and a kettle for cold St. Louis mornings.

If you want to do luxury living close to Busch Stadium, you do it right by staying at the Four Seasons St. Louis. Staying at this magnificent hotel on the banks of the Mississippi River offered us spectacular bird’s-eye views of the iconic Gateway Arch and the rest of the city. In fact, we were stupefied to know that the hotel possessed an extensive modern art collection said to be worth over USD 7 million. Oof. But the best bit for us MLB fans was that it was a mere 20-minute walk or a 5-minute drive to Busch Stadium!
When we weren’t screaming our heads off at a Cardinals game, we’d spend all our time at the hotel – because there was so much to do here. The Sky Terrace was the ultimate place on not just the property but perhaps in the entire city. In fact, the gorgeous rooftop pool, which is the hotel’s USP, is one of St. Louis’ best hotel pools. After a swim, we’d sprawl out on the daybeds or the cabanas and soak in views of the Mississippi River and the bridges while downing cocktails from the knockout poolside bar. Even the sky-level spa was mind-blowing, where we enjoyed a soak in the whirlpools after a much-required massage and body treatment. An onsite award-winning restaurant and an onsite casino wrap up the amenities here.
We had the choice of 200 contemporary rooms and suites that boasted jaw-dropping views from the floor-to-ceiling windows. While the best rooms had the Arch views, we chose the riverfront studio suite instead. While the mod-cons were the same plush ones across, ours treated us to views of the river.

It’s hard to beat staying on the Mississippi River in the heart of St. Louis, right? And that too with views of the Gateway Arch and the St. Louis Riverfront. And that too just 10 minutes from Busch Stadium! We’re talking about Hampton Inn St. Louis-Downtown at the Gateway Arch, which was also an excellent base to explore St. Louis’ amazing attractions. Despite being a city center hotel, there were a lot of perks here that we enjoyed. The star amenity was the indoor pool, where we’d enjoy a swim and a lounge after a day of exploring St. Louis or catching a Cardinals game. Aside from the 24-hour fitness center, we appreciated the free hot breakfast spread, which was a great way to start the day.
We loved the sheer choice of contemporary rooms and suites at this Hampton Inn outpost, of which many of the best ones overlook the Gateway Arch. What’s more, they all boasted a gamut of comforts, including flatscreen TVs, comfortable Cloud Nine beds, modern bathrooms, and even free high-speed internet access. After a busy day exploring the city, the rooms sure were a great place to relax, put our feet up, and enjoy a heavenly sleep in Cloud Nine.

Imagine staying in a hotel sitting right between the iconic Gateway Arch and the Busch Stadium! Welcome to the Drury Plaza Hotel St. Louis At The Arch, which overlooks the Mississippi River and the Gateway Arch on one side and the home of the Cardinals on the other. In fact, the excellent location is what makes this the best hotel by St Louis Cardinals’ stadium, especially if you’re a huge baseball fan like us!
Our days at the Drury Plaza would begin with a free hot breakfast spread at the restaurant, which was perfect to fuel us up for half the day. After a day of exploring the city and/or watching a Cardinals game, we’d head back all sweaty from the St. Louis humidity, with a massive indoor pool to welcome us. A swim here, with views of Downtown, was the best balm after a long and humid day in the city. Plus, there was a hot tub too, which was ideal for soaking our sore muscles from walking around all day. Aside from a fitness center, the hotel also offers a same-day dry cleaning service. Are you here for a long time? The launderette was a savior!
Coming to the stays, the rooms and suites here are quite spacious by Downtown St. Louis standards. They had flatscreen TVs, free Wi-Fi in all the rooms, and a fridge and a microwave. Our king room was on a higher floor, and we even enjoyed partial views of the riverfront and the arch.

Where to Stay in St. Louis, MO, to see the Cardinals?
St. Louis is often called the “city of neighborhoods,” as every area has its own unique vibe, style, character, and identity. So, which is the best neighborhood to stay in the city to catch a Cardinals game or two?
No surprises here: Downtown is the best neighborhood in the city, hands down. First, and most importantly, it’s home to the Busch Stadium, which is home to the Cardinals. No matter where you are downtown, you can simply walk down to catch a game. What’s more, it has the nicest selection of hotels across budgets, types, vibes, and whatnot. And, of course, it’s also home to the city’s most important attractions, including the Mississippi riverfront. Plus, it’s very well-connected to the rest of the city. Downtown also includes Downtown West, the city’s business district, and the original 1764 French settlement.
Next, we have the lively Lafayette Square, which is just south of Downtown and one of the most alluring neighborhoods in St. Louis. Anchored by the verdant Lafayette Park, this neighborhood is an escape from tourists and still less than a five-minute drive to Busch Stadium. The local vibe is amazing here, with small bars and restaurants, specialty stores, cafes, and gorgeous Victorian mansions. Here, you have the chance to stay in amazing B&Bs.
Finally, another great neighborhood is Midtown, the geographic heart of St. Louis, just west of Downtown. Not only is it home to St. Louis University, but also a bunch of amazing museums, galleries, and live entertainment venues in the Grand Center Arts District.
Can you visit the St. Louis Cardinals Stadium?
Yes. If you don’t want to watch a game but visit the stadium, there are hour-long guided tours that offer interesting details about Busch Stadium.
