Where to Stay in Dortmund
As Germany‘s eight-largest city, Dortmund is known for many things. Among them are the beer, its rich industrial heritage, and the famous football team – Borussia Dortmund. Speaking of football, one of the must-visit places in the city is the German Football Museum, which is located in the city center. Lucky for you, some of our hotel picks are located around the city center. Football addicts should stay in that area so they’ll only be a blink away from the museum.
Year-end is one of the best times to go to Dortmund, as Christmas Markets are opened during that time every year to celebrate Christmas. The Christmas market is split into many different sections around the city, which means some of the best hotels in Dortmund, Germany are there too!
Taking you away from the crowded area, you can also have an unforgettable journey in Hörde, a city district in the south of Dortmund. Some of Dortmund’s top attractions are located there, such as the castle ruin Hohensyburg and Phoenix Lake. Those who delight in spending their holiday in a chilling area can find an alternative stay around Hörde.
Although there are plenty of options to choose from, you need to make sure the hotel that you’re going to book is worth it and have everything you want. Ask your friends for some recommendations if necessary or take a look at the hotels close to the top things to do in Dortmund. When done, get ready to fully enjoy yourself in the sublime city of Dortmund!
Hotel Königshof Hauptbahnhof Superior
To kick off the list of the best hotels in Dortmund, Germany, we recommend you Hotel Königshof Hauptbahnhof Superior. It has a very reasonable price considering it’s very near to the train station and city center. Although it doesn’t offer the most spacious room or fanciest bathroom, amenities are complete including a minibar, laptop safe, and hairdryer. The bed mattress and pillows are exceptional too.
The hotel is also known for having well-trained staff. All staff are courteous and surprisingly speak great English, which is a great help for international tourists. They can recommend some popular places to visit, too.
Right behind the hotel is a BVB pub, where loyal fans would gather and watch football matches together. That said, the German Football Museum is only 0.4mi (0.6km) away. The experience inside the museum is priceless. Don’t skip the 360 theatres where the exhibit videos are shown. Make sure to allocate an hour or two for this masterpiece!
Coffee Fellows Hotel Dortmund
Ever thought how it would look like to turn a coffee shop into a hotel? Well, here it is. Also located near Dortmund center, Coffee Fellows Hotel Dortmund is located above its coffee shop. The hotel’s interior design is dominated by warm colors such as wood brown and grey, giving you the perfect café vibe. We’re surprised by how spacious the standard single room is. The amenities include WiFi, a flat-screen TV, and a private bathroom with free toiletries.
The location of this hotel is great for shopaholics. Dortmund Christmas Market and Westenhellweg shopping street are only less than 0.5mi (0.3km) away. A wide range of shops can be found there, from fashion boutiques to bookstores, everything you need can be bought there.
As expected, the impressive coffee is the hotel’s biggest selling point. There are plenty of options to choose from, cappuccino, espresso, macchiato, cold brew, you name it. The coffee beans are fresh from the farm and handcrafted. This simple yet gratifying hotel should be coffee lovers’ go-to. As they say, a good cup of coffee equals a good mood!
The Grey Design Hotel
The Grey Design Hotel has won people’s hearts by being one of the budget-friendly hotels in Dortmund, Germany with great access to the city’s main attractions. A 5-minute stroll will get you to the city’s top places, like the Christmas market, Signal Iduna Park, and Theater Dortmund.
The hotel isn’t costly and despite that, it’s not lacking in quality. The room is clean and soundproof, featuring a minibar and a glass-decorated bathroom. Without spending extra cash, you can find yourself sitting beside the bed lamp while reading your favorite novel at night in the standard single room.
An on-site bar is available in case you’re bored and down for a drink. There’s also a gym around 0.5mi (0.8km) from the hotel with an additional charge. To compensate for the missing hotel gym, there’s a bowling alley available for the guests to enjoy.
Hampton By Hilton Dortmund Phoenix See
Another well-liked hotel in Dortmund among travelers is none other than Hampton By Hilton Dortmund Phoenix See. Although considered quite new, it provides everything with a great standard and tackles all the basic things a nice hotel would have. We’re satisfied with the big and spotless room. The bathroom is super clean and everything inside feels brand new.
Also suited for business travelers, there’s a big working desk in each room. Ample business facilities such as a business center, meeting rooms, and conference facilities are available for bigger events too.
The hotel isn’t located in the middle of the city per se, but the surrounding area is nice. We recommend joining the Dortmund Phoenix Lake Segway Tour. Together with other tourists, get ready to be entranced by the Emscher river as you’re on your way to Phoenix Lake. Have fun riding the segway while exploring the lake!
If you prefer home-like hotels to luxury ones, Hotel Specht might pique your interest. Not only it provides a single and a double room, but you can also bring your best friends or family along and stay at its two-bedroom apartment. Since the cozy room has a lot of space, traveling with your precious ones makes it more enjoyable. After all, the more the merrier!
Furthermore, we’re impressed with the bathroom. It’s extremely clean and well maintained along with complete toiletries. There’s also a bathtub so you can spoil yourself with a bath bomb after a long trip.
Unlike some hotels in Dortmund, Germany, Hotel Specht is somewhat a bit far out of the city. Luckily, there’s the S-Bahn train station nearby that connects us to the center of Dortmund. Considering the number of calories we’re taking from the delectable food, a walk to the train station is very much needed.
Boutique 102 Dortmund City
Don’t forget to add Boutique 102 Dortmund City to your list! As expected by its name, the hotel has a very simple and modern look. Clean freaks like us are wowed by the cleanliness of the hotel. The moment you step inside, you’ll know that it’s very well taken care of.
The room itself is relatively big, with more-than-enough space for you to dance! We like the awesome bed. Not only it’s massive, but it’s also super soft and comfortable. We’re not kidding, once you lay on the bed you won’t ever want to get up. If you’re craving for some cold drinks, a bar is available in the lobby where you can have a bottle (or two) of the famous Dortmund beer.
Located in the heart of Dortmund, we recommend visiting Their-Galerie. It’s a multi-level shopping mall which is very near the hotel with magnificent architecture. Its wide range of retail offers will guarantee one of the best shopping experiences in town.
stays design Hotel Dortmund
In terms of uniqueness, stays design Hotel Dortmund stays unrivaled. Stationed just 1.5mi (2.5km) away from downtown, it’s not holding back from going all out on the suite design. That is the biggest reason it stands out from the rest of the hotels in Dortmund, Germany.
Aside from the expensively fluffy pillows, the deluxe suite offers eccentric decorations with daring colors matching certain themes, something you won’t be able to get at any other hotel. Among the striking themes are Moulin Rouge, Music, Hollywood, India, and many more.
For example, the Moulin Rouge deluxe suite is inspired by the Moulin Rouge cabaret. The wall and the toilet are all red everything, along with some gold and black accents on the furniture. We can’t seem to take our eyes off the headboard, which is shaped into a big red love sign. The hotel even goes as far as putting rose petals and a feather fan on the bed. A+ for the one-of-a-kind experience.
Radisson Blu Hotel Dortmund
We fancy well-located hotels, including Radisson Blu Hotel Dortmund. Since it’s just 4-minute away to Dortmund’s downtown by train, you should try to blend in with the locals and explore some lovely spots in the area. Lucky for you, Westfalenpark is just an 8-minute walk away. It’s a mesmerizing park with a mini train as well as occasional outdoor events that travelers love.
Feel like spending the day in the hotel? We suggest you start your day by having breakfast at the in-house restaurant, where they also serve gluten and lactose-free food. Then you can visit the wellness area to use the steam room, swimming pool, or have relaxing spa treatments by professional masseurs and estheticians.
One little detail worth mentioning is the TV. We know, there’s nothing special about a TV being in a hotel room. But what’s exciting is that besides German channels, there are English ones too! International visitors can finally enjoy their last hours before sleeping watching something that they can understand!
At least one of the best hotels in Dortmund, Germany must be from the NH Hotel Group. On this list is NH Dortmund, the only 4-star suite hotel right in the center of Dortmund. Its strategic location makes it convenient to go to St. Mary’s Church, Dortmund Concert Hall, and others.
Among all the rooms, we need to give the family room a 10 out of 10. It’s well laid out and fresh. The airy living room has a very pleasant sofa and is separated from the bedroom. The enormous bathroom is perfect and has a bathtub. It’s our guilty pleasure to spend our time in it longer than we should, but who won’t?
In all sincerity, NH Dortmund is an allrounder that manages to surpass our high expectations. It may not be the most affordable option, it’s worth every penny. With all the facilities it offers to make sure visitors have the maximum comfort, going back for another stay in the future is certainly on our plan.
l’Arrivée Hotel & Spa
Nothing embodies self-indulgence better than l’Arrivée Hotel & Spa. The mansion-like hotel is quietly located in the south of Dortmund where it’s surrounded by tall woods and eye-catching houses. The room is spacious, having a large double bed, flat-screen satellite TV, and also a seating area.
The treatments in the 1000 meters square spa and wellness center are first-class. The spa area has an indoor swimming pool, steam room, massage, and plenty more on the list. We recommend you to have a unique sauna experience where you can have a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside.
There’s also a fitness center where you can pump some muscles before relaxing in the big hot jacuzzi. Golfers can have fun in Dortmund Gold Club too, which is just 1.8mi (3km) from the hotel. With everything l’Arrivée Hotel & Spa offers, we feel like it brings out the best experience of luxurious treatments in the woodland.
Dorint An den Westfalenhallen Dortmund
One word to describe Dorint An den Westfalenhallen Dortmund, excellent. Among all the hotels in Dortmund, Germany, it excels in every aspect you can think of. Location wise, it’s just 3 station stops from Dortmund center. It’s also situated right across the Westfalenhallen exhibition ground, one of the most visited places in Dortmund.
The room is huge and spotlessly clean with complete amenities. The hotel also provides amazing facilities suited for events or business trips. There are 13 conference rooms with a capacity of up to 300 guests and more rooms are available for events.
Our favorite facility is the whirlpool in the wellness area. Nothing feels as good as spoiling yourself by relaxing in a whirlpool full of bubbles. It makes you forget about all the bad things in life, even though only for a moment! Overall, everything is top-notch like what we expect from the finest hotel in Dortmund.
