Eugene sitting at the southern end of the Willamette Valley dons many caps. It’s a charming university town where Nike was born, and sports runs through its veins. However, Eugene has far more things to offer. We’ve been to Eugene before, and we were amazed by its art. The colorful murals were nothing short of astonishing, and we were also amazed by the hippie counterculture. Museums, diverse restaurants, and craft brews abound in this safe town. What’s more, the gorgeously verdant Willamette Valley with its rivers and trails lies just south, earning it the moniker of ‘Emerald City’. Undoubtedly, Eugene is one for foodies, intrepid adventurers, and explorers alike. The best hotels in Eugene Oregon are an amazing lot, and they allowed us to explore the town at our own pace. From luxurious hotels to historic inns, we’ve stayed at some of the best accommodations.
Since Eugene lies just 60 mi (96 km) from the Oregon Coast, it’s also an excellent base to explore the surrounding region. In fact, the Oregon Coast is home to one of the 10 spectacular sea stacks around the world. Moreover, Eugene makes for a great winter vacation destination, too. In fact, the Crater Lake National Park, which is one of the 22 best winter vacation destinations, is just a couple of hours southeast. Thus, Eugene has a lot to do that belies its small size. To that end, here are our favorite hotels in the city!

Graduate Eugene

Graduate Eugene, which was formerly the Hilton, is one of our favorite hotels in the city. Once we entered the lobby, we encountered a giant wooden toy duck, along with 43 pairs of Nikes at the check-in desk. Moreover, the hotel was filled with lots of quirky art that had been sourced from local antique shops and thrift stores. We were surprised that nothing was ho-hum here, right from the amenities to the accommodations. Since wellness is an important point nowadays, the hotel features both a state-of-the-art fitness center, as well as an indoor pool. The dining choices are equally eccentric. For instance, Poindexter Coffee offers sandwiches, salads, and baked goods, complete with wall art of No. 2 pencils! The lobby restaurant, on the other hand, dishes out the casual and hearty fare.
Spruce green accents and wood-paneled walls take center stage in the rooms, with every detail speaking to Eugene’s surroundings and history. A playful homage to the University is evident in the ‘TrackTown’ pillows and floor lamps that depict Nike, the goddess of victory. The window-facing desk – this is a college town – and the well-designed bathrooms, complete with custom duck wallpapers, are cheerful. There’s one more piece of information that surprised us during our stay. The hotel has a Topgolf Swing Suite, one of only four in the U.S. The idea is that being active should also be fun, and so if you want to practice your swings, then this is where you should be.

Tru by Hilton

The Tru by Hilton on the banks of the Willamette River lies almost halfway between Eugene Downtown and Springfield. It’s part of the vibrant cluster of hotels that serve the Eugene-Springfield travel market. The five-story hotel offers a hip, young, and unique Hilton experience right off the bat. We knew we made the right choice by staying here when we saw the lobby was stocked with play zones. There were board games, pool tables, and snacks and drinks. Besides express check-in/check-out, the hotel even features a shared lounge where you can relax.
Free Wi-Fi is a mainstay everywhere, while the fitness center bodes well for you if you’re a fitness enthusiast. While we were there, we would begin our day with a fantastic American buffet breakfast offered at the hotel. We would also soak up some sun on the terrace. Rounding up the amenities are luggage storage, room service, and a 24-hour front desk. All rooms at Tru by Hilton are modern and spacious to boot and come with flat-screen TVs and desks. Private ensuite bathrooms are immaculate and modern, making your stay comfortable.

Valley River Inn Eugene/Springfield

The Valley River Inn, one of the best hotels in Eugene Oregon, offers an urban escape while staying close to nature. The hotel occupies an enviable and idyllic location on the banks of the Willamette River, halfway between Eugene Downtown and Springfield. If you’re all about the great outdoors, then this is definitely where you should be staying. The inn offered us a whole lot of recreational activities like hiking, biking, golf, white water rafting, fishing, and more. We could also hop on to one of the terrific winery tours in the region.
The hotel is not without history. Since its establishment in 1973, it’s played host to everyone from former President Bill Clinton to music god Elvis Presley. Its on-site restaurant serves delicious Northwestern fare and is very popular with locals too. However, the highlight is the seasonal outdoor pool, coupled with a year-round fitness center, and an indoor hot tub. It was the perfect way for us to unwind and laze on the property. Bikes are also available. Thanks to them, we were able to ride along the river on sun-kissed days. Besides a business center and spaces, the property even has a wonderful bakery and a gift shop that sells local wines. Breakfast, albeit paid, is one hearty affair.
The rooms are an ode to Eugene’s persona, with wall-mounted woodblocks, birch-paneled headboards, and accent walls with branch silhouettes. All rooms also have private balconies or patios, many of which overlook the river and make for a fantastic spot to enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine. Besides all standard mod-cons and creature comforts, rooms have spacious, modern bathrooms with shower/tub combinations. If you want to splurge, go for the Casanova Suite which has extra space and a wet bar.

Signature Inn Eugene

Best Budget. Only a block away from some of Eugene’s most favored restaurants, the Signature Inn Eugene provided us with a cozy place. The rooms here aren’t the biggest or fanciest. However, it’s nothing short of comfortable either. A good choice for budget travelers, we stayed in the King Room, which was a mix of retro and modern. It had everything we needed, from a fridge to toiletries. Speaking of which, we also found the bathroom to be clean, which was a huge plus for us.
During our stay, we would kick off our day with a cup of coffee, which was then followed by a continental breakfast, which is free, by the way. If you’re not the type to have a meal early in the morning, you can relax in the patio area and enjoy the views. While there’s no swimming pool or fitness center to keep you busy, you don’t have to worry as it’s near downtown Eugene and all of its excitement!

The Campbell House Inn

Bask in wallet-friendly splendor in the heart of Eugene’s Historic District at The Campbell House Inn, one of the finest Eugene Oregon hotels. The 1892-built, fully-restored luxury bed-and-breakfast cradles oodles of historic charm and lies right next to the gorgeous Skinner Butte Park and the Willamette River. We were spellbound by the boutique Victorian estate that sits on lush, landscaped grounds. Since it’s an inn, it doesn’t have the amenities of a regular hotel. However, we didn’t miss them either. Even though there’s no on-site restaurant, the inn does serve a delicious hot complimentary breakfast and even hosts complimentary wine receptions during evenings. During sunnier days, the outdoor area is the perfect place to dig into the hearty breakfast, which has hot entrée choices and freshly-made baked goodies like sconces.
You have the choice of 13 historically decorated rooms in the main structure, as well as 8 extra suites in the Carriage house. All of them come with modern creature comforts like complimentary minifridges, free Wi-Fi, cable TVs, seating areas, as well as private bathrooms. Since we wanted something more intimate and romantic, we decided to go for the suite in the Carriage House. It had everything we badly needed, from a whirlpool tub to a fireplace and patio.

La Quinta by Wyndham Eugene

The La Quinta by Wyndham Eugene looks more like a quaint but superb little bed and breakfast than anything else. The hotel sits in an impressive grey-and-white, low-rise structure and is surrounded by the best foliage in Eugene. Since the hotel features basic self-catering facilities, the on-site convenience store is a blessing. We think we visited the store more often than we should. A business and fitness center aside, the hotel even features a guest launderette.
The highlight, however, is the fabulous indoor Olympic-sized swimming pool. This makes sense given that the hotel lies in a sports town just down the road from the University of Oregon. The cherry on top is the free Wi-Fi and the hot, complimentary breakfast that’s offered every morning. And though free, we really enjoyed the breakfast a lot. Meanwhile, all rooms and suites at La Quinta are beautifully decked out, and spacious to boot. Flat-screen TVs, plush beds, and modern bathrooms are a mainstay in all. Besides that, the rooms even have coffee-making facilities, a fridge, a microwave, and work desks, too.

Home2 Suites by Hilton Eugene Downtown University Area

Not too long ago, we had the chance to stay at Home2 Suites by Hilton Eugene Downtown University Area. As the name suggests, this hotel is only a few blocks away from the University of Oregon. In addition to that, we were able to reach downtown in mere minutes. We never felt bored as there were so many bars, restaurants, and shops to explore within easy walking distance. Getting around is also a breeze for those who don’t drive as there’s a bus station nearby.
The suites on-site are nothing short of amazing. As our home away from home, our studio-sized suite had enough space for our stuff as well. Plus, they were equipped with hip decorations that made the whole vibe feel somehow cozy. Don’t spend too much time napping, though. Make sure to also take a dip in the indoor swimming pool and work up a sweat in the fitness center.

EVEN Hotel Eugene

Best Concept. If your idea of staying in Eugene is staying healthy, then you’ll love the EVEN Hotel Eugene. Everything here, from the facilities to the rooms, is focused on well-being and health. In fact, some travelers who espouse this place have even gone so far as calling this hotel a wellness facility – and it’s true. To begin with, the hotel boasts a superb indoor swimming pool. We swam a few laps and it was truly exciting (and equally tiring). Right next to it sits a hot tub. After swimming, we would take a dip to soak our sore muscles. The well-equipped fitness center is a fitness enthusiast’s dream and is stocked with the very best equipment. Finally, there’s a host of alternative therapies available on-site, including massages and body treatments. Based on our experience, the masseurs were fantastic. They knew exactly where to put the pressure. Since the focus of the hotel is getting you active, even the restaurant offers healthy and gluten-free meals, apart from an incredible complimentary breakfast.
Even the rooms are focused on health and wellness! In fact, each room features some of the other fitness equipment to get your blood flowing, with some rooms even featuring stationary bicycles. To be completely honest with you, we chose not to book that room as we knew we would already be tired from working out in the gym. All standard mod-cons aside, the place even has ensuite bathrooms with spa showers for unwinding after a long day.

Hayward Inn

When talking about Hayward Inn, we have to mention its convenient location. Like some of Eugene Oregon best hotels, this accommodation is set right across the University of Oregon. Hence, don’t be surprised to find plenty of young travelers in the area. We personally enjoyed the location as it made everything feel more youthful. Plus, the hotel is close to some of Eugene’s top attractions, including the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry as well as the Hult Center for the Performing Arts.
Every corner of this hotel is immaculately clean and well-maintained. The rooms are spacious, and the staff members are also very helpful. During our stay, they always went the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. We also enjoyed the breakfast. There was a wide variety of choices to choose from, including sausage, eggs, pancakes, fruits, and yogurt.

Hyatt Place Eugene/Oakway Center

Best for Pet Owners. Hyatt Place Eugene/Oakway Center has an extremely friendly pet policy. While we didn’t travel with our pets, we did see some guests with their furry companions, and they were treated by some treats by the staff. This hotel lies on the other side of the Willamette River in the neighborhood of Cal Young and is close to the Oakway Golf Course. There’s a lot to love about the hotel, beginning with its slew of amenities. Firstly, it offers a splendid indoor pool, which is a great place to relax after a long day of exploring the town. A soothing hot tub lies right next to it, completing the picture of relaxation.
You can even grab snacks or meals from the on-site restaurant and market. Moreover, the bar offers fresh coffee in the mornings and delicious cocktails in the evenings. The hotel is also big on providing 24-hour facilities. There was one night when we couldn’t sleep and ended up working out in the gym. Additionally, there’s also a 24-hour business center. You’ll be impressed by the spacious rooms at this hotel, all of which feature seating areas and expansive private ensuite bathrooms too. Flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and plush and comfy beds complete the picture of perfection that the rooms are.

Riverpath Inn

Best Hidden Gem. Underrated and often overlooked, we think it’s about time we give Riverpath Inn the spotlight it deserves. Set in a quiet residential neighborhood, it only took us a short walk to reach the Willamette River from this Eugene Oregon hotel. In addition to that, we also found numerous local restaurants and parks in the vicinity, making it the best choice for those who want to experience Eugene like a local. The house itself is a beautiful old Victorian home that has been lovingly restored.
“While not as famous as other hotels in the city, Riverpath Inn still managed to give us a flawless stay. If you want a tranquil vacation at homey accommodation, this is the place to be.”
WOW Travel
The rooms on the property are well-appointed. We stayed in the Deluxe King Room, which featured a small refrigerator, bedside tables, and a super-duper comfy bed. It truly felt like we were having a sleepover at one of our friends’ houses. The inn has numerous amenities to make it a great place to stay, namely a shared kitchen, a dining room, and a living room with a cozy fireplace. There’s also a big backyard with a patio, perfect for relaxing.

Where to Stay in Eugene
Eugene is a small city, but it does have many neighborhoods from which you need to choose where you want to put up while you’re in town. The center of all action is Downtown, where attractions like the Autzen Stadium and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum are all within walking distance. Secondly, we have the Market District, which lies just north of downtown Eugene. It’s where all the city’s best craft beer pubs and fine dining places are at. The Market District also sits right next to the Willamette River and is home to the lovely Skinner Butte Park with its cycling paths and riverside walks.
