Many hotels have tried to blend old and new only to end up failing, but art’otel Zagreb isn’t one of them. The hotel sits inside a beautifully restored historic building, but once you step inside, everything you see is sleek and contemporary. The location is amazing too, as it’s right in the heart of the city. We were able to walk pretty much everywhere, from major sights to cafés and shops.

We booked a room on the third floor and appreciated the little details like the Illy coffee machine. The room had air conditioning, but we also loved being able to open the impressively soundproof windows. Even with the hotel’s central location, it stayed quiet and restful. There wasn’t a minibar, but that didn’t bother us at all, thanks to the service areas on each floor stocked with snacks and drinks.

Breakfast was another strong point. The buffet offered plenty of variety, and we liked that it was paired with a menu of freshly made egg dishes, juices, and smoothies. One of the real highlights of our stay, though, was the basement restaurant and bar, YEZI. We ended up there more than once, drawn back by the Asian-inspired dishes, outstanding pastries, and seriously creative cocktails.

Boutique Hotel HOH

Boutique Hotel HOH is one of the most unique boutique luxury hotels in Zagreb, Croatia. It’s small, stylish, and cozy. Everything from the slick, minimalist interiors to the softer, homely details was well cared for. The whole place was immaculately maintained, including our room. We had a comfy bed, and the excellent soundproofing with double glazing allowed us to sleep like babies. On top of that, wehad a well-stocked minibar with snacks and drinks.

What really elevated the experience, though, was the staff. Honestly, they couldn’t do enough for us. Moreover, breakfast each morning was varied and delicious. We also made great use of the facilities: the gym and sauna were amazing, and the terrace was one of our favorite spots to relax with a coffee.

While there’s no restaurant on the property, it really wasn’t an issue. Zagreb is incredibly safe, and getting around is easy (walking, buses, and taxis are all simple). From the hotel, you can be pretty much anywhere within 10 minutes.

Hotel Jägerhorn

Best Historic. Hotel Jägerhorn isn’t just another fancy hotel in Zagreb. A little fact for you: this is the oldest hotel in the city, dating back to 1825. It sits in a quiet passage just off Ilica, the main shopping street. From here, it’s about a five-minute walk to the main square, and there’s also a staircase from the back courtyard that leads up to Upper Town. That made it easy for us to visit spots like Zagreb Cathedral, the Meštrović Atelier, and the Museum of Broken Relationships without relying on transport.

The hotel is small, with only 18 rooms in total, including singles, classic doubles, and a suite. That said, we highly recommend choosing a room on the second floor under the roof if you can. Those rooms are especially cozy thanks to the sloping ceilings, and the suite up there sleeps four, making it a solid option for families.

Breakfast was served in a bright room with glass doors opening onto the courtyard. The buffet offered a good range of options, including homemade yogurt, muesli, fresh fruit, cured meats, scrambled eggs, sausages, and croissants. Coffee is made to order using an espresso machine, and it was always so good.

Who says you have to empty your wallet? The DoubleTree by Hilton Zagreb is proof that luxury doesn’t always come with a hefty price tag. So, what do you get from it? First, the hotel is only a 10-minute walk from the main bus station. It was super convenient for us to get in and out of town. While it’s not in the historic center, the tram made getting there quick and easy.

Our Superior King Room was huge and clean. The king-sized bed was very comfortable, the desk was a good size, and the Wi-Fi was fast enough to handle everything we needed. Large windows made the room feel bright, and the bathroom was equally generous, with a separate tub and walk-in shower finished in black marble. If views matter to you, corner rooms and suites are the best option.

Service was also good throughout our stay. The staff were friendly and efficient, and we highly appreciated the complimentary chocolate-chip cookie at check-in. We also made time to use the indoor pool on the 10th floor, which has wide city views, along with the Finnish and Turkish saunas and a solid gym.

Hotel President Pantovcak

We had to include Hotel President Pantovcak on this list. The hotel is on a quiet residential street, about a five-minute walk uphill from Britanski trg. We liked being near the cafés and daily market there, and on Sunday, the antiques market was fun to browse. From Britanski trg, it’s only about a 10-minute walk to Zagreb’s main square, so getting around on foot was easy. T

The service was consistently excellent throughout our stay. The staff were attentive, friendly, and quick to help with anything we needed, from recommendations to reservations. There’s a solid restaurant on site and a small bar, too. One thing we didn’t expect was the small art gallery inside the hotel, which features works by Croatian artists like Edo Murtić and Ivan Lacković.

Hotel President Pantovcak only has seven rooms and suites, and each one is designed a bit differently. Our room was large, bright, and very comfortable, with big sliding glass doors that opened toward the garden. The decor mixes dark wooden floors, patterned rugs, quality fabrics, antiques, and modern art.

We stayed at Hotel Capital during the holidays and really liked it. It’s one of the newer luxury hotels in Zagreb, Croatia, and it definitely stands out for its style. The design mixes Art Deco details with a modern look, which we loved. When we were there, the lobby was nicely lit with chandeliers and had a relaxed vibe thanks to the jazz music playing in the background.

We booked a Superior Room, and it had all the essentials you’d expect, including air conditioning. The balcony with a city view was a nice extra and gave us a chance to enjoy the surroundings without leaving the room.

The location is a big plus, too. The hotel is right in the center of Zagreb, so we could walk to Ban Jelačić Square, museums, and shops without needing transportation. Service was friendly and attentive, and we ended up spending some time at the hotel bar, which serves very good cocktails.

Best Boutique. It’s hard not to like Hotel Le Premier when it manages to exude elegance so effortlessly. Think leather sofas and wood-panelled walls. Even for non-smokers, it’s an interesting spot to check out.

The restaurant ended up being the highlight of our stay. It’s led by a Michelin-starred Croatian chef, and the food was impressive. The lamb shank was to die for! We liked that the hotel also has a small spa area with two saunas, plus a fitness room for those who want to stay active.

We spent our nights in the Superior Double Room. It was quiet and comfortably decorated, with a clean, calming style that we adored. With only about 60 rooms, the hotel feels fairly intimate. Also, the location is another big plus. It’s right in the art and design district, and we were able to walk to many of the main attractions.

Hotel Dubrovnik

Hotel Dubrovnik is hard to beat when it comes to location. We were right on Zagreb’s main square, so getting around was incredibly easy. Upper Town is just uphill, Lower Town spreads out nearby, and the train station is less than a 15-minute walk away. With trams stopping right outside, we barely had to think about transportation the entire time.

We stayed in the Deluxe King on the sixth floor, and the room was everything we hoped for. The bed was big and cozy with fluffy pillows, and the seating area was great for quick 30-minute naps. The real standout was the view, which looked straight over the main square toward the cathedral.

Dinner at the hotel’s American Steak and Grill House was exactly what you’d expect: solid steaks and grilled dishes. The menu focused on meat, with options like burgers, T-bone steak, and fillet mignon, plus a few richer pasta and veal dishes. There were some vegetarian options listed, though they weren’t available during our visit due to a seasonal menu change.

Sheraton Zagreb Hotel

If what you need is a conveniently located hotel, you won’t be disappointed with Sheraton Zagreb, one of the top luxury hotels in Zagreb, Croatia. It’s just a short walk from the main train station, and the main square is about 10 minutes away on foot. We never had to worry about ordering a taxi or anything.

For our two-night stay, we booked an Executive King Room, and the size of the room was fantastic. It was roomy, comfortable, and easy to relax in. We also spent some time in the Executive Lounge, which was clean and luxurious. It offers a great view over the city, too. It was easily our favorite spot to take a break in the evening.

One of the standout features for us was the spa. It’s one of the better ones in Zagreb, with experienced therapists. We appreciated having free access to the indoor heated pool and the gym as well. For food and drinks, there were plenty of options: the main restaurant for sit-down meals, Café Imperial, or the Piano Bar for something lighter.

The building is big, grand, and hard to miss, with a large fountain out front and a classic Art Deco look dating back to the 1920s. This already screams luxury. Inside, the style is elegant but not tacky at all, with chandeliers, wide staircases, and lots of original details that remind you this is one of Zagreb’s most iconic hotels.

Our Esplanade Suite was spacious and very comfortable, especially the marble bathroom with heated floors and L’Occitane bath products, which we appreciated more than we expected. The room came with free access to the hotel’s health club, too, which is modern and well-equipped, and breakfast was included as well. Across the hotel’s 200-plus rooms, the standard is consistently high.

Best Service. The Westin Zagreb is where the city rolls out the red carpet, and honestly, it shows. This sleek high-rise has hosted everyone from George Bush to Vladimir Putin, and while we didn’t quite arrive with a presidential entourage, the atmosphere still felt quietly impressive. Service was smooth and discreet, as expected from a hotel of this caliber. All the staff members knew how to handle us like VIPs.

We stayed in one of the suites high up on the 32nd floor, looking for something that felt contemporary, dependable, and comfortable after long days out in the city. The room delivered on all fronts. It was cool, calm, and polished, with that reassuring Westin consistency. Location-wise, it couldn’t be easier: the main square is an easy walk, which made popping in and out of the city effortless.

When it came to downtime, we were spoiled for choice. Between the main restaurant, the stylish lobby bar, and a cozy café, there was always somewhere to sit and unwind. Add in a casino, a full wellness and fitness center, a Turkish bath, spa facilities, and a generous indoor pool, and we’re sure you won’t have a problem spending an entire day without going out.
