Off Interstate 64
The Mardi Gras Casino is located in Cross Lanes, West Virginia. For us, this location was more than ideal. Just a mile off Interstate 64, it was so easy for us to access since we were coming from Charleston. We also loved the seclusion. While we were close enough to major roads for convenience, the setting still felt removed from the bustle of main highways.
The surrounding area offered some interesting attractions, too. We discovered the Dutch Hollow Wine Cellars is only 7 miles away, and it was the perfect choice for our afternoon excursion. Similarly, Nitro City Park lies at the same distance, providing a nice option for outdoor recreation if you want to take a break from the gaming floor.

Deluxe Accommodation
During our stay at the Mardi Gras Casino, we spent our nights at the Deluxe King Room, which was everything! It was spacious, which we appreciated, and the modern decor gave it a fresh, updated feel. The king-sized bed was comfortable, and we found the room well-equipped with everything we needed. We made good use of the 40-inch TV for some downtime, and the chair with the ottoman was a nice addition for relaxing. Other convenient amenities include an in-room safe, a mini-fridge, and ironing facilities.
Now, if you’re looking to really treat yourselves, the hotel also offers two Presidential Suites. While we didn’t personally stay in one, we learned they come with a separate living room area, a distinct bedroom space, a sleeper sofa for extra guests, and even a wet bar. It sounds like the perfect option for those wanting a more luxurious and spacious experience. If we were celebrating a special occasion, we’d consider splurging on one of those suites.

65,500 sq ft Casino
One of the main reasons why we stayed at the Mardi Gras Casino was because we wanted to check out the casino. It was a blast! Walking into that 65,000 sq ft space was like stepping into a party. With over 700 slot machines, it was hard to know where to start, but we were drawn to the popular titles. We had a great time trying our luck on Buffalo Chief and Dragon Link – those games are definitely exciting!
The energy in the air was contagious, and with 35 live table games going on, plus poker, there was something for everyone. We even managed to walk away with some extra cash in our pockets, which added to the fun. All in all, we had a fantastic time at Mardi Gras Casino & Resort and would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and lively casino experience.

Greyhound Racing
We’d heard whispers about the excitement of greyhound racing but had never actually experienced it ourselves. So, when we were at Mardi Gras Casino, we knew we had to check it out. It was our first time, and the energy was palpable.
The fact that races happen Tuesday through Saturday, starting at 6 PM, made it easy to plan our evening. It added a real buzz to the place. As we approached the track, the anticipation grew. We were glad to know beforehand about the 21+ age requirement, so there were no surprises there.
From the moment the starting boxes opened, we were hooked. The sheer speed of the dogs was incredible. They burst out of the gates with such power and grace. What really got us was the thrill of the chase, especially around those left turns. There was a collective gasp from the crowd every time they rounded a bend, each dog vying for position. It was truly exhilarating. To check out the racing schedule, click here!

Fine Dining
What about the dining options? The Mardi Gras Casino knew exactly how to please us, and we were spoilt with options. Our most memorable dining experience, though, was at The French Quarter. This restaurant positions itself as one of the premier dining destinations in the Charleston area, and we can see why. The atmosphere was extremely comfortable, making it feel equally suitable for a romantic dinner or a fun night out with friends. We opted for a delightful combination of land and sea, ordering the Lobster Ravioli and the Certified Angus Beef Porterhouse. Both dishes were expertly prepared and absolutely delicious.
We also highly recommend Cafe Orleans for something quick and casual. This spot offers a great selection of quick and easy fare in a food court-style setting. You can find everything from classic burgers and quesadillas to tempting baked goods and gourmet coffee.
“The dining options can make or break your trip. Thankfully, none of them at the resort was disappointing.”
