Few things compare to the joy and excitement that come when we’re preparing for a vacation. The idea of packing up and setting off to a new destination is always exciting. However, it also means that we need to do some careful planning when we leave our home behind. Securing our home is always at the top of our minds, whether we’re off for a short holiday or a long one. Luckily, with the Vivint home security for a holiday, securing our home isn’t a huge task we need to check off our pre-vacation to-do list. Luckily, we found a smart, high-tech home security system in Vivint. It even came with a user-friendly app, besides top-tier equipment and equally excellent professional installation.
So, whether we’re traveling for a weekend or a month, our Vivint system helps us stay connected to our home at all times. It provided not only security but also immense peace of mind, especially since we were traveling. Here’s why Vivint is the perfect setup for travelers who are jetting off on holidays.

Checking In With The Vivint App
Have you ever wondered what’s happening at your house while you’re away? The Vivint App gives us immense peace of mind, bringing together all the products we’ve mentioned in this article in one place. For instance, the Vivint indoor and outdoor cameras give us a live feed of what’s happening around our home. What’s more, we could even choose customizable detection zones on cameras, receiving immediate notifications when there’s activity specifically in those areas. Moreover, Vivint’s motion detectors will trigger motion alarms, if there’s any, when our systems are armed when we’re away. That alerts the 24/7 monitoring team, which notifies us immediately. Did you know that we can even control our home’s smart lighting system via the app? Yes!
With the Vivint smartphone app, we could control all aspects of our smart home, no matter where we were. Whether we want to unlock our front door to talk to the delivery guy, arm/disarm our security system, or want to check out the live feeds on our nanny cams — we can do all that, and much more, through the Vivint app.

Keep An Eye With Vivint Cameras
There are many reasons why one should have a motley of cameras to cover your home. Whether you’re concerned about leaving your home unattended or leaving your pets, security cameras offer peace of mind. The Vivint Indoor Camera Pro allows us to stay connected even when we’re away. We were able to access its live video feed anytime. Plus, thanks to the two-way talk for easy communication, we could even talk to our pets without having to rely on others or even neighbors to provide updates.
Are you worried about someone important stopping by while you’re away? That’s why we also invested in the Vivint Doorbell Camera Pro, which was a caller ID for our front door. Thanks to the night vision and the HD wide-angle lens, we could clearly see who would stop by. What’s more, it also had a two-way talk feature, allowing us to see and speak to our visitors via our phone. Additionally, it was very helpful as we were expecting packages while we were traveling as well. When the delivery driver approached our door, we received a notification on our phones. Then, we told the delivery driver where to leave the package.

Get Secure With Smart Locks
One of the best additions we made to our home security system is smart locks. They not only provided convenience and security, but also allowed us lock/unlock our front door remotely via our handy smart home app. Moreover, we could even easily reset/deactivate codes from the app. So, it gave us peace of mind that only people we trusted would have access to our home. If that wasn’t enough, we could even create custom entry codes for everyone in our family. Additionally, we could safely give codes to people who needed to access our home, such as house sitters and petsitters. So, we didn’t need to make extra copies of our home keys, nor did we have to hide them under flowerpots or over doorjambs. When other people use their specific code, we receive notifications on our phones of who entered and when.
Besides all this, have you ever wondered, “Did I lock the front door?” when you’ve left for a holiday? For all this, and for what we mentioned above, the Vivint Smart Locks from Kwikset are ideal. Using the Vivint app, we could not only lock/unlock our doors remotely but also give out upto 300 unique access codes for trusted family members and friends.

Make Your Home Look Lived-in With Smart Lighting
According to most law enforcement officials all over the world, thieves often look for homes that look unoccupied. While leaving the lights on 24/7 would solve that problem, no one leaves the lights on all the time now, do they?
This is where Vivint Smart Lighting Solutions came to our rescue, allowing us to ensure that our home was well-lit at the right times, whether we were at home or away on vacation. This wireless lighting system is integrated with our Vivint smart home app, allowing us to turn lights on/off and even dim them from the app. Plus, we could even create lighting groups for specific floors or rooms in our house, and turn them off and on as we needed. If that wasn’t enough, we could even set custom rules for turning our lights/lighting groups on/off at specific times, mimicking our habits when we’re at home. So, it makes our house look like it’s being lived in when, in fact, we’re away.

Stay Alert With Motion Detectors And Sensors
If you have a fairly huge house, especially an independent one, then motion detectors and sensors are a fantastic way to make sure that no one is entering or even lurking about the house. The Vivint Motion Sensor provided us with complete coverage around the clock. When the system was armed, the motion sensors triggered motion alarms, which, in turn, would alert our 24/7 monitoring team, and they would notify us immediately. What’s more, the Vivint motion sensors could also communicate directly with our Vivint security cameras and Smart Thermostat. Thus, we could activate recording, turn the lights on and off, and even adjust the temperature. If that wasn’t enough, the Vivint motion sensors even featured two pet-adaptive settings that allowed us to adjust sensitivity levels according to the size of our pet. So, we could let our pet run free without worrying about it setting off the motion sensors.

Other Controls
Vivint has a whole lot of other aspects, products, and services for securing your home. One is the Vivint Garage Door Control, which allowed us to open and close the garage from the Vivint app. Plus, we’d even receive alerts if the door were left open too long, so we could shut it with a simple tap on the app.
Secondly, nothing provides us more peace of mind when we’re away quite like a 24/7 monitoring system of our house. That’s why the Vivint Professional Home Security Monitoring System works like an extra set of eyes on our home. Whether you get notifications about motion sensor alerts, smoke alarms, or anything else, Vivint’s monitoring center would notify us and dispatch proper emergency personnel to our home, if required. Playback DVR is another useful addition to our vacation security setup. Vivint’s Smart Drive allowed us to view 24/7 footage of everything that happened within our camera’s field of view while we were away (available only on Vivint’s Gen 2 cameras).

What Is a Smart Home?
A smart home is a group of connected and programmable IoT (Internet of Things) devices that employ Bluetooth or Wi-Fi technology. They allow you to remotely control all connected devices in your home via a smartphone or a touch-screen control panel.

How Many Home Security Cameras Do I Need?
That depends on the size and the layout of your house. However, if you need an overview, you require indoor and outdoor security cameras. As a thumbrule, it’s a good idea to have 3-4 cameras divided between an indoor camera, 1-2 outdoor cameras for the front and back of the house, and a doorbell camera for the front door and packages.
Should I get a wired or a wireless home security system?
For most homeowners, wireless systems are better due to easy DIY installation, flexibility, smart home integration, and portability, while wired systems are superior for ultimate reliability in permanent homes or large properties where installation isn’t an issue, offering consistent power and less interference. Choose wireless for convenience and modern tech, wired for unmatched stability and security in fixed locations, or a hybrid for the best of both worlds.
