Slovenia is no big country. However, there’s a plethora of gems waiting to be discovered! One of them is Novo Mesto, a small city that’s nothing short of lovely. Our team had the chance to spend a few days there, and it truly exceeded our expectations. The Old Town is charming, and walking along the Krka River was super relaxing. But because of its size, there are only a few hotels in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. Luckily, this also means you don’t have to spend a long time deciding which one should be your home during your trip. We’ve stayed at each of the following hotels, and each of them has their own charm. So, why not read this post and get to know them better?
Since we’re talking about Slovenia’s gems, you should also read our post about the best hotels near Lake Bled! It’s the only island in Slovenia that’s popular for its picturesque views.

Hotel Pri Belokranjcu

Best Budget. Travelers who don’t want to spend a lot can consider staying at Hotel Pri Belokranjcu. This isn’t a fancy hotel, so you shouldn’t expect over-the-top amenities from it. However, we do have to point out that there’s a bar on-site! Aside from the in-house restaurant, the bar is the only spot where you can enjoy a drink. We did have a good time there, though. The service was good, and there was a wide variety of beverages to choose from.
The hotel’s surrounding area is popular for cycling. So, if you want to cycle your way to the nearby shops, feel free to rent a bike from the hotel. In addition, car rental is available, too. While we couldn’t work out since there was no fitness center, we did spend a good minute in the sauna. It was the best way to relax and detox after a day of exploration.
The rooms at this hotel are on the smaller side. We weren’t surprised, though. However, you don’t have to worry; they were clean and cozy. Each room is equipped with standard amenities like a coffee maker, hairdryer, and toiletries. Of course, this hotel doesn’t forget the freebies, including free parking and Wi-Fi.

Hotel Center Novo Mesto

Best Location. As the name suggests, Hotel Center Novo Mesto is situated in the heart of the Old Town. Staying at this hotel means you’ll never be too far away from some of the area’s must-visit places. During our stay, we could find many cafes and eateries within easy walking distance. Better yet, the hotel is only one block away from Krka River. Also, it took us less than a five-minute walk to reach Dolenjska Museum Novo Mesto. And if you want to take the train, it’s only 11 minutes away on foot.
The location of this hotel isn’t the only thing it’s proud of. All of the staff members were exceptionally friendly to us, and their services were flawless. But we want to highlight none other than Hotel Center’s Vienna-inspired cafe. After exploring the shops nearby, we would head to the modern cafe and relax. It offers a wide variety of drinks, including healthy options, too.
This hotel caters to all types of travelers. Solo and budget travelers can book the Economy Single Room, and families can opt for the Family Room. We spent a night at the Superior Double Room and enjoyed our stay there. We had everything we needed, including slippers, free toiletries, and a sofa.

Best Amenities. Among all of the hotels in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, Hotel Dolenjc has the best amenities. Though it’s only a three-star hotel, it sure doesn’t feel like one. My team and I had the chance to spend a night here and had a blast. We rarely went outside as there were so many things to do on-site. Guests can have a friendly competition playing billiards, and foodies can fill their tummies at the pizzeria. Meanwhile, kids can enjoy their time in the playground. But we had the most fun in Hotel Dolenjc’s bowling alley! Set on the ground floor, it features four lanes and is open every single day.
“With a nice bowling alley, a pizzeria, and a kid’s playground, it’s only fitting for Hotel Dolenjc to be the best hotel in the city. Near the highway, this hotel sure doesn’t disappoint.”
WOW Travel
In the mood to venture out? No problem! The historic Hmeljnik Castle is only around 3.48 mi (4 km) away from the hotel. And if you don’t mind driving for a few minutes more, you’ll find Novo Mesto Cathedral. Yes, this hotel is far away from the airport. Thankfully, it offers an airport shuttle service for its guests, albeit at an additional charge. But on the bright side, parking is free.
There are plenty of room options on the property. From Family Room to Classic Triple Room, every single one is bright and comfy. We stayed in the Double Room and had a good night’s sleep. We didn’t hear any noise, thanks to the soundproofed walls, and the views from our room were simply beautiful.

Where to Stay in Novo Mesto, Slovenia
Again, since Novo Mesto is a small city, it doesn’t really matter where you decide to stay as you’ll easily find your way in the streets. Most travelers would want to stay near the city’s main square, which is Glavni Trg. It’s where you’ll find tons of shops and restaurants. Those who want a drink or two can also find bars.
In addition to that, we also recommend the Old Town Center. Surrounded by the Krka River, this place is home to various historic buildings. Though there’s nothing much to do here, we still enjoyed walking around the town and observing the old houses.
