Imagine one of Italy’s most iconic free attractions (until now) amassing nearly EUR 3,000 on a daily basis! We’re talking about the most famous fountain in Rome, the iconic Trevi Fountain, a.k.a. Fontana di Trevi. This baroque and flamboyant ensemble of wild horses and a gamut of mythical figures occupies an entire side of the crowded 17th-century Palazzo Poli. Not only do thousands visit it daily, but they also keep up the tradition of tossing coins into the water to ensure their return to Rome. Staying in one of the hotels in Rome, Italy, near Trevi Fountain, might sound like a nightmare, but it doesn’t have to be — if you choose your stay carefully, that is.
Not surprisingly, most of the stays around here are on the higher end of the budget spectrum. However, there is also a fair share of affordable hotels that allowed us to not have to break the bank. The best bit? They all offered superb views of the fountain or were within a stone’s throw, so we could visit it anytime.
No one said that staying near what is one of the world’s most famous fountains and one of the top things to see in Rome was easy, but we’ve made it a bit easier for you. Here’s a roundup of the best stays near Trevi Fountain.

Casa Modelli
11
We begin this list with Casa Modelli, which was a minute’s walk from the street opposite Trevi Fountain. These charming digs offered a variety of rooms and suites, all of which were modern and air-conditioned, allowing us to stay here comfortably even during summer. What’s more, they all came with flat-screen TVs with Netflix, electric kettles, and even kitchenettes. So, we could cook light meals whenever we wanted. Plus, they all came with private bathrooms with complimentary Ferragamo toiletries.
Just because it’s a simple property doesn’t mean that it didn’t have amenities. For one, we loved the large terrace that offered gorgeous city views, including that of Trevi Fountain. What’s more, they offered a sumptuous Italian breakfast spread every morning on the lovely terrace.

Palazzo Talia

Hollywood glitz meets Renaissance Roman glamour at the gorgeous Palazzo Talia, which stays true to its Renaissance roots with classical sculptures, frescoes, and architecture, but with modern flair. Tucked in a historic 16th-century palazzo, the place was formerly a home to a series of high-ranking clergy, after which it became a school for the who’s who of entertainment, politics, and diplomats. Finally, the Roman Federici family transformed it into the luxurious hotel we see today. The best bit? It’s a less than five-minute walk from Trevi Fountain.
“Bespoke luxury within a five-minute walk to Trevi Fountain? What’s not to like?”
WOW Travel
Choose from 10 rooms and 16 suites, all of which feel like dreamy Art Deco private apartments, with warm, welcoming hues, stunning lighting, and chic, contemporary furnishings. We chose one of the best rooms, which faced the courtyard and was on the second floor, with gorgeous clock tower views and maximum natural light. For something splurge-worthy, the top-floor Guadagnino-designed Terrace Suite is your best bet.
Downstairs, the signature restaurant served lip-smacking Italian classic dishes with Roman twists. We never missed aperitivi at 5:30 pm every day at Palazzo Patio with artfully crafted cocktails and delightful light bites and snacks. Plus, we also never missed enjoying a nightcap at the ground-level Bar della Musa. Wrapping things up was the luxurious subterranean spa, which is an ode to the ancient Roman bathhouses. Think a glittering caldarium pool, treatment rooms, and a cedar-panelled sauna, besides a small Technogym-outfitted fitness center.

Trevi Fountain Luxury Guest House

If you’re looking for a guesthouse near Trevi Fountain, then don’t look any further than the Trevi Fountain Luxury Guest House. This magnificent, antique-style home with wooden ceilings took us back to the wonderful times of ancient Rome. Comfort meets history at this charming Roman retreat, which comprises a bevy of apartments sitting within a gorgeously restored 18th-century aristocratic palace.
The apartment we were staying in sat on the first floor, and had two bedrooms, allowing our party of four adults to stay here comfortably for a longer time. Even though it didn’t have a lift, we had no issues dragging our luggage up a few steps. What’s more, it had a well-equipped and contemporary kitchen with all the appliances we required for cooking meals when we didn’t want to step out. Besides a stovetop, microwave, oven, and fridge, the kitchen even had coffeemakers, cutlery, and a washing machine too. We’d enjoy meals at the dining table, in the living room while watching movies on the flat-screen TV, or on the spacious and beautiful balcony surrounded by flowers and plants. On days when we didn’t want to eat meals outside, this setup suited us perfectly.
The rest of the loft was equally impressive, with the two double bedrooms and two modern, private bathrooms, one ensuite and one right next to the bedroom door. Besides being stocked with complimentary bath products, they were immaculate and well-maintained. Rounding things up is the super-fast, free Wi-Fi, which allowed us to stay connected all the time.

Umiltà 36

In a location as central as this — a five-minute walk from Trevi Fountain — finding discretion and privacy is like stumbling upon buried treasure. Umiltà 36 is nothing less than a treasure; tucked on a side street, this luxury boutique hotel is like a veritable museum just steps from one of Rome’s most popular sights. The interiors come alive with a variety of styles, from contemporary to classic modernism and even Art Deco.
We loved the clean-lined, moody, and crisp rooms and suites, with geometric designs and indulgent fabrics in play everywhere. Since we wanted a bit more space, we chose the suites, which even came with private living rooms and kitchenettes to cook meals. Moreover, the rooms either overlooked the pretty hotel courtyard or the pretty Roman rooftops.
We especially loved the public spaces at this hotel, which included two restaurants: the signature Dandy Café and the brand-new seafood establishment Aquamarina. A fitness center and free Wi-Fi everywhere round up the amenities.

Hotel Accademia

Best value for money. Hotel Accademia is a rare hotel near Trevi Fountain. Firstly, it sits in the street right behind Trevi Fountain, a mere three-minute walk away. Secondly, it boasts of an elevator, which is rare in the hotels that we usually find near Trevi Fountain. If that wasn’t enough, the hotel is modern to boot, and extremely value for money. So, if you’re traveling with older people or kids, then this hotel is perfect. We had the choice of nearly 100 rooms across 5 floors, all accessible by elevator. What’s more, they all were equipped with creature comforts such as plush beds, travertine marble bathrooms, satellite TVs, minibars, and even fitted carpets and individually controlled air conditioning.
The amenities were no less impressive, despite this not being a five-star or luxury property. Besides concierge services, the hotel even served a fantastic full American buffet for breakfast. This was impressive considering they didn’t have an on-site restaurant. Finally, the location is quite close to bus stops for city tour buses as well as public buses.

Maalot Roma – Small Luxury Hotels of the World

Staying at Maalot Roma is like enjoying the “Roman Holiday” in reverse. Housed in the former home of 19th-century opera composer Gaetano Donizetti, this five-star hotel is a two-minute jaunt from Trevi Fountain. Irrevently young, Maalot boasted a lively and vibrant ambiance, far from the uppityness and pish-posh nature of regular five-stars. That vibe is reflected in the eclectic art deco furnishings and interiors, whether it’s the bold colors everywhere or the portrait of Marilyn Monroe in 18th-century clothing in the lounge.
We loved the digs, which were vibrant, bright, and flooded with natural light. The theme was maximalist, with bespoke and boldly patterned headboards, framed Vogue covers on the walls, delicate brass mirrors, statement onyx lamps, and plump floral scatter cushions. The Calacatta Arabescato marble bathrooms were equally eye-popping, complete with spa-style rainshowers. While all rooms offered views of Via del Corsom, our one-bedroom suite even came with a sofa bed to boot.
Downstairs, the Don Pasquale restaurant with a glass dome and another on-site eatery serve delicious Italian and Mediterranean fare for all meals, including high tea and even cocktails. In fact, the rooms are arranged around the glass dome, making it a lovely meeting and exchange space. There’s a basement gym as well.

Piccolo Trevi Suites

A hop, skip, and jump away from Trevi Fountain, quite literally, put us at Piccolo Trevi Suites. So, we ended up visiting Trevi Fountain multiple times, and would even walk by it when coming back from other sightseeing expeditions. It couldn’t get better than this! Tucked in a 15th-century structure, this rustic guesthouse-turned-aparthotel was perfect for our extended stay in the city.
We were blown away by the comfy accommodations, which included spacious rooms and suites in different sizes and layouts. However, they were all furnished contemporarily, were air-conditioned, and came with sleek private bathrooms with complimentary bath products and city views. What’s more, they even had flat-screen TVs, work desks, and free Wi-Fi. If you’re looking for more space, then the apartments are ideal as they even added period fireplaces and kitchens, which were very useful when we wanted to whip up meals and didn’t want to eat outside all the time during our extended stay. Also, please note that the hotel only has stair access to the rooms and suites.

Palazzo Scanderbeg

Most luxurious. We lived like modern-day royals at Palazzo Scanderbeg, which sits a two-minute walk from Trevi Fountain. Channeling classic elegance with a modern edge, this townhouse hotel offered the privacy of an exclusive residence but with the conveniences of an upscale hotel.
We had the choice of 11 rooms and suites, as well as an annex with an independent entrance. Think opulent Renaissance-style parlors shaped into suites and apartments that were surprisingly spacious. While they had some original features, they boasted a contemporary vibe and aesthetic with modern decor, such as coffee machines, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. However, the suites feature some grander architectural details, like high ceilings with molding and exposed wooden beams, with the added modern touch of kitchens. Did we mention that some of the upper-level suites even came with part-time butler service? Yes!
With the limited number of stays, service here was gracious and attentive without being intrusive, and it felt like we were staying in an upscale private home. Besides a welcome drink, there were even round-the-clock concierge services available, especially since there’s no spa or fitness center on the property. However, there was room service until 11 pm, which was very much appreciated.

Jo&Joe Roma

Best hotel-hostel. If you’re looking for a chilled-out hotel-hostel near Trevi Fountain, then Jo&Joe Roma is where you should be. Sitting a mere 15-minute walk from Trevi Fountain, this former 16th-century monastery-turned-hotel-hostel is rife with unusual design spaces. For one, we had the choice of both dorms and private rooms at this place. However, they were anything but run-of-the-mill and designed funkily with pops of colors, plush beds (bunk beds in the dorms), and quirky design details. What’s more, all rooms were air-conditioned and came with immaculate and rather sleek private bathrooms (every dorm came with one bathroom) and were stocked with complimentary bath products. Did we mention that there were both mixed-bed and female-only dorm options? Yep.
Since it sits in a 16th-century structure, Jo&Joe has gone all out with its incredible common spaces, with original touches of the old structure having been preserved, such as the outdoor courtyard with the majestic fountain. It was where we’d sip on Aperol Spritz, enjoy Italian delicacies, and even enjoy live music. In fact, the place even had a dedicated space with a stage where we could enjoy DJ sets and concerts. A coffee shop, a bar, a modern restaurant serving Italian cuisine, a concierge desk, and a sun terrace and garden round up the amenities here.

Harry’s Bar Trevi Hotel & Restaurant
2
Tucked in a quieter street right across from Trevi Fountain is Harry’s Bar Trevi Hotel & Restaurant. The hotel was so quiet that we couldn’t believe that we were staying close to one of the most populated Roman landmarks and sights! We had the choice of 21 modern rooms divided between 15 in the main building and 6 in the outbuilding. All of which were fitted with soundproofing and blackout curtains. So, we were actually able to catch up on sleep and rest despite staying so close to noisy surroundings. Not only were all rooms air-conditioned, but they also had minibars, flat-screen TVs, and private bathrooms with bath products and bathrobes. For more space, some rooms even had separate seating areas.
That being said, Harry’s doesn’t operate like a budget hotel at all. For one, our favorite spot on the property was the large breakfast hall, attached to which was a wonderful panoramic terrace with extraordinary views of the neighborhood, including Trevi Fountain. If that wasn’t enough, breakfast was a sumptuous spread with a variety of baked goodies such as breads, croissants, pies, and cakes, as well as cured meats, assorted cheeses, veggies, eggs, juices, and fresh fruit! Did we mention that there was also free Wi-Fi throughout? What more could we ask for?

Hotel Fontana

Best Trevi Fountain views. Imagine staying in a hotel where your room overlooks the Trevi Fountain! If you’re prepared to deal with noise, then look no further than Hotel Fontana, which is the only hotel right in front of Trevi Fountain in Rome! Tucked into a 17th-century structure that was formerly a convent, this hotel is also excellent value for money. Moreover, most of the best sights to see and things to do in Rome are all within a 10-minute walking distance!
Breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace overlooking the city. Wi-Fi throughout is free. A varied buffet-style breakfast with sweet produce is served from 07:00 until 10:00, consisting of Italian pastries, fresh fruit, cheese, and ham. The RoofTop Lounge, overlooking the fountain, serves classic Italian specialities for an aperitif and dinner.
While the air-conditioned rooms are a bit on the basic end of the spectrum, they’re immaculate, well-kept, and uniquely decorated. What’s more, they all featured elegant wooden flooring and mod-cons such as flat-screen TVs and small, private bathrooms. Some rooms, like ours, directly overlooked the Trevi Fountain, which was the most expensive but worth the experience.

Where to Stay in Rome Near Trevi Fountain?
Trevi Fountain lies right at the heart of Centro Storico, the city’s historic center, and where most of the first-time visitors stay. Not only is it the most crowded area, but it also has the highest concentration of the must-see sights, is the most atmospheric, and is the most touristic. Here, you’ll want to walk around as much as possible and avoid private transport.
The area immediately north of the fountain is Colonna, the third “rione” (division) of Rome. Deriving its name from Piazza Colonna’s Column of Marcus Aurelius, the rione is home to a number of churches, palaces, and piazzas, besides hotels, of course. To the southwest sits Rione IX Pigna, the ninth rione of Rome and home to the famous Pantheon. Just like Colonna, it has tons of squares, churches, historic structures, as well as stays. Finally, most of the areas southeast and east of Trevi Fountain are occupied by the eclectic Monti. Featuring both classical and bohemian elements, it has a slew of archaeological sites and piazzas, as well as markets, vintage boutiques, hip wine bars, and family-run trattorias.
What is the only hotel in front of the Trevi Fountain?
Hotel Fontana happens to be the only hotel located right in front of the Trevi Fountain, giving guests glorious, front-seat views of the fountain.
Is it safe to walk around the Trevi Fountain at night?
Absolutely. In fact, the entire city center of Rome is pretty safe to walk, even at night, but travelers are advised to exercise basic caution, just like everywhere else.
What is the secret place behind the Trevi Fountain?
It’s an archaeological site that contains the remains of a Roman house and aqueduct and is called the “City of Water.” Many tourists are still largely unaware of these historical gems that lie so close to many of the other sights.
