The Pierre, A Taj Hotel
11
We begin with the 1930s-built elegant Pierre, a Taj Hotel and part of the Taj Hotel group. This icon has been a luxury landmark for nearly a century and has gotten even swankier after the recent USD 100 million overhaul. A lobby filled with exclusive South Asian art greets guests, with fresh floral arrangements and gilded moldings everywhere. The sense of quiet luxury is everywhere, especially when one walks on the pristine and polished white marble floors. It’s no wonder that the Pierre is one of the NYC’s romantic hotels.
Of all the rooms and suites here, all of which have Turkish marble bathrooms, the most expensive room is the 39th-floor Tata Presidential Suite. This nearly-2,000-sq-ft-huge 2-bedroom suite is connected to all the suites on the floor. The result? A six-bedroom stunner that offers utmost exclusivity and privacy. Just like the rest of the Pierre, the decor is subtly luxurious, with Murano chandeliers, damask wallpaper, and a silver-leaf dining table. Now you know the reason for the USD 20,000 price tag.

Lotte New York Palace
10
The Lotte New York Palace is yet another pricey hotel in NYC. Part of the hotel occupies the 1880s-built Villard Houses in Midtown Manhattan, which have been designated as NYC landmarks. The other part is the 51-storied skyscraper, atop which sit the singularly exquisite Royal Suites. The swankiest, largest, and most expensive of them all is the 5,000-sq-ft-huge Champagne Suite, a sprawling two-bedroom aerial oasis spanning three floors and boasting breathtaking views. So, what does a USD 25,000 per night suite have? Think a marble foyer, a crustal pendant chandelier, and a 29-ft-wide mural, making it one of the most expensive hotel room options in NY state.

The Point, Saranac Lake

Let’s step out of the Big Apple for a bit and head straight to Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks, where North America’s first Relais & Châteaux property sits. We’re talking about The Point, the only Forbes Five-Star property in Upstate New York and the very first member to make it to the Relais & Châteaux list nearly 40 years ago. The fanciful stone-and-timber mansions are the personification of the romantic 19th-century notion of “roughing it.” but it great luxury, style, and comfort. Today, this is the only Gilded Age Adirondack Great Camp open to the public, and it’s worth it.
The staff greets you with a glass of champagne at the main stone house, whisking you and your luggage away. This all-inclusive resort has fully stocked bars tucked away all around the property, with the staff quickly picking up on our preferences. Moreover, the 24/7 kitchen has an open-door policy with food appearing magically round the clock. The kicker? It’s helmed by Loic Leperlier, who’s spent all his time at award-winning Relais & Chateaux hotels and multi-Michelin starred restaurants. Plus, you can eat just about anywhere – even the pub, which has a pool table and a jukebox.
Each of the 11 rooms are special, with sublime views of the surrounding forest or Upper Saranac Lake, private decks, sprawling bathtubs, half-canopy beds, stone fireplaces, and bathrooms that look like they’re come from spaceships. Rooms usually start at USD 4,000 per night, going up to USD 5,500 or 6,000 for the Weatherwatch Suite, making it most expensive hotel options in NY state.
