Aman Tokyo, Japan
6
Tokyo is a buzzing city full of psychedelic lights and energy, so it’s impossible to imagine serenity in the heart of it. Or is it? Aman Tokyo, managed by the world’s most exclusive hotel brand Aman, defies all myths and is the brand’s first urban concept digs. Sitting on the top six floors of the eye-catching Otemachi Tower, this minimalist sky sanctuary is classic Japanese with a touch of modern tech-savvy luxury. Choose from 84 rooms and suites, all with unique layouts but retaining Japanese tradition and style. Imagine large furo bathtubs in all rooms for the most indulgent soaks with Tokyo’s mesmerizing skyline in front of you.
A vaulted 30-something floor atrium aside, the amenities are overflowing at this Aman outpost. Our favorite was the massive indoor pool area with oversized daybeds, soothing lights, and the most amazing views. What’s more, there are multiple dining options and even unique tours such as an excursion into the traditional and eons-old Nihonbashi area, where we could even order custom kimonos. No wonder it’s one of Tokyo’s most expensive hotels.

Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, Tuscany, Italy
5
Did you know Florence in Italy is one of the best luxurious honeymoon destinations, and that the inimitable Four Seasons Hotel Firenze in Tuscany is at the top of the luxurious staying list. A historic and opulent luxury retreat with massive botanical gardens, this hotel has lived former lives as private homes filled with sculptures and artwork. The rooms and suites are understandably exquisite, especially the six signature suites, all of which feature original frescoes. The pinnacle is the standalone Pool Garden Suite, which comes with its own plunge pool and private garden.
The amenities are also befitting a Four Seasons property, especially the three year-round dining spaces of which one is the intimate Atrium bar, which reminded us of the colonial and antique heritage of Tuscany. There are even golf cart rides across the park and the utterly gorgeous pool, where daybeds and the Pool Tree Bar ensure that you’ll never want to leave. The zenith is the Four Seasons Firenze’s extensive spa, which sits in a two-floor pavilion that’s larger than some of the hotels in the city. Sigh.

The Plaza, New York City, USA
4
There’s no doubt that The Plaza is one of the best luxury hotels in New York City – and for a good reason. This Midtown Beaux Arts gem is a standing testament to old-world luxury, sitting right in front of Central Park and having been home to some historic moments in the history of the Big Apple.
The over-the-top floral displays everywhere — purple and red roses, orchids, and hydrangeas — might not have worked anywhere but here. Luxurious holidays are done right at the Guerlain Spa, followed by afternoon tea at the Palm Court, where you can dig into sandwiches, desserts, tea, and whatnot. Don’t miss drinks and cocktails with live music at the Champagne Bar in the evenings. Even though there’s no pool, staying at the Plaza is an experience you shouldn’t miss.
Modern and elegant at the same time, the rooms and suites here are indulgent, especially the Deluxe Courtyard Rooms, which have private terraces overlooking the lushly landscaped and serene surroundings. The bathrooms were perhaps our favorite part, where the mosaic tiles mimic those at Central Park! One of NYC’s most expensive hotels, the Plaza lives up to its billing.

Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa, Raa Atoll, The Maldives
3
Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa, Raa Atoll, The Maldives – the name says it all, doesn’t it? This Raa Atoll beauty, which sits a 40-minute seaplane ride from the capital Malé, sits in crystal-clear turquoise waters and is the only hotel on the atoll. We had the choice of beach villas and water villas; while the latter obviously sat over the water, the former sat just steps from it. What’s more, they are all assigned personal butlers! Notwithstanding which villa you choose, the digs are huge, elegant, romantic, and teeming with mod-cons. Cloud-like beds, private terraces with ocean views, and even jacuzzis in some of them will certainly make your stay memorable.
“Staying at the Emerald Resort was an experience of a lifetime. The overwater villa was exquisite and everything we’d dreamt of from a Maldives vacation!”
WOW Travel
Since it’s an all-inclusive resort, everything is included, right from meals and alcoholic beverages to amenities. There are five restaurants, but the pool bar and grill next to the huge ocean-facing infinity pool was definitely our favorite! Of course, nothing beats lounging on the daybeds under the thatched roofs on the beach, especially when there’s beach service where the staff keeps bringing us drinks right to our perch. Afternoon tea and pastries, DJ performances and live music in the evenings, a wonderful spa, motorized and non-motorized watersports (the latter being free of charge), and a kids club mean that there’s something for everyone here!

Titanic Mardan Palace, Antalya, Turkey
2
One of the world’s most luxurious hotels sits in the stunning Mediterranean city of Antalya in Turkey. We’re talking of the Titanic Mardan Palace, an all-inclusive luxurious escape on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. It actually lies in the Antalyan neighborhood of Lara, which is famous for being the most expensive luxury resort in all of Europe!
It’s not wrong, considering the unending list of amenities. Imagine this: a pool so massive that you cannot swim from one end to the other, as many as 4 aquariums, and a massive 12,000 square-foot spa. The icing on the cake is that since it’s a seaside resort, there’s even a private beach, and that too featuring sand that’s been imported from Egypt! Imagine being in the Mediterranean in Europe but lounging on African sand; now that’s a different kind of luxury, isn’t it?
On the inside, the hotel’s interiors are an ode to four of Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks, led by the massive Dolmabahçe Lobby. A five-storied glass ceiling, a majestic staircase, a slew of watersports and entertainment activities, more than 30 dining options, a championship golf course, and rooms blending modern and Turkish elements – staying here doesn’t get any more royal.

Six Senses Fort Barwara, Ranthambore, Rajasthan, India
1
We saved the best for the last – or the first, depending on how you see it. Behold the Six Senses Fort Barwara in Ranthambore in the state of Rajasthan, and one of the most expensive hotels in India. The country’s first Six Senses outpost, this 14th-century fort-turned-resort sits in the majestic Aravallis and has been the home of many Rajasthani royal families. The brand’s commitment to work with local communities is evident everywhere. For instance, the entire hotel is dotted with block printers, bangle makers, women selling masala chai and fresh nimbu-pani (lemonade) detox drink counters to beat the Rajasthan heat.
When it comes to modernity, there’s the ground-breaking and trademark ‘Sleep with Six Senses’ program that collaborates with famed sleep expert Michael J. Breus and the 30,000-square-foot Six Senses Spa. Of course, there are the usual luxurious touches, such as heritage and art walks, multiple multicuisine restaurants, a fitness center, and a massive outdoor pool.
Choose from just 48 indulgent suites, of which the Terrace Hot Tub Suite is particularly exquisite. However, nothing compares to the higher-end royal suites, like the Raja Man Singh Pool Suite, which boasts private enclosed gardens with a pool and a dining pavilion!
