On a budget but still want to stay at a hotel? Consider Masaya Santa Marta, a hostel with a hotel feel. Everything we wanted was within walking distance: Plaza de los Novios for nightlife, the marina for booking well-priced tours, and the main Santa Marta plaza for daytime wandering. Being right in the historic center, we were surrounded by bars, cafés, and restaurants.
The vibe of the hostel really works for travelers. There’s a good mix of dorms and private rooms, which makes it especially great for backpackers, and the rooms themselves are spacious and air-conditioned. Breakfast is available every morning if you want something easy, but we also appreciated having a fully equipped communal kitchen when we felt like cooking.
Our favorite spot, though, was the massive rooftop. Up there, you’ll find a pool, a bar, a restaurant, and sweeping views over Santa Marta’s rooftops that are perfect at sunset. Luckily, we immediately felt at ease here. The hotel is secure, staffed around the clock, and tucked into a lively area with tons of great restaurants nearby. You can even explore the area on the hotel’s bike.
We stayed in the Junior Suite on the third floor, and it was such a cozy, stylish accommodation. No need to stress about stairs either, as there’s an elevator, which made things easy with luggage. The staff personally showed us to the room and even surprised us with a cold drink shortly after we settled in. Speaking of which, breakfast was delicious, with the option to go traditional Colombian (which we happily did), plus fresh fruit and juice every day. Meanwhile, the inner courtyard was straight-up magical, and the pool was a little oasis we kept coming back to.
What really made the experience special, though, was the staff. Everyone greeted us by name and made the hotel feel personal in the best way. A couple of quick tips: taxis can’t pull up directly to the entrance, so expect a short walk at drop-off. That said, we honestly can’t say enough good things about our stay.

Set in a peaceful area, it’s one of the most perfect places to slow down. The property is thoughtfully divided between a tranquil indoor garden and a poolside restaurant area, so there’s always a calm corner to retreat to. Our room was air-conditioned, comfortable, and inviting, and the overall cleanliness stood out right away. Daily housekeeping was meticulous, from fresh bath towels to pool towels, and the level of care easily matches a solid four-star stay.
What sets Camali apart is its design. Unlike your typical hotel, it feels like a big, open hacienda where everything flows together. Best Adults-Only. Santa Marta has a reputation for being loud and lively, and while that’s fun for some trips, we were craving peace. Casa Verano Beach Hotel was exactly that escape. Tucked away in a quiet stretch near Pozos Colorados, this hotel feels worlds apart from the city chaos.
One thing we really appreciated: it’s adults-only. No kids, no background crying, just calm vibes all around. The hotel itself is small and stylish, with a lush garden that wraps around a beautiful pool, dotted with palm trees and comfy loungers where we happily lost track of time. There’s direct access to the beach, which was a huge highlight for us. Pozos Colorados is quiet, uncrowded, and refreshingly free of pushy vendors.
That said, Casa Verano isn’t about bouncing from bar to bar or trying every restaurant in town. You’re a bit removed from Santa Marta’s food and nightlife scene, so this stay works best if your plan is to unplug fully with your loved one. We treated it like a reset: beach, pool, naps, repeat.

Best Value for Money. If you want both comfort and affordability, we think Hotel Boutique Casa Carolina is a great option. As one of the best hotels in Santa Marta Colombia, it lets you enjoy the city without blowing your budget. You can pick between a cozy Double Room or a more spacious Loft, and no matter what you choose, the staff really goes out of their way to make you feel taken care of. From check-in to check-out, they were friendly, helpful, and invested in making sure we were having a good time.
One of our favorite parts was having a place to truly unwind. The spa was a big win! Those massages hit the spot and helped us reset completely. There’s also a swimming pool and a few laid-back common areas where we could cool off and relax during the afternoon heat.

Instead of the typical hotel room, we had a full-on apartment with real living spaces, a proper kitchen, and room to unpack and settle in. That’s not all! The best part was that we didn’t have to give up polished, hotel-level service just to have that extra space.
The beachfront location also made our stay even more amazing. We could step straight out toward the sand, spend the day by the ocean or the outdoor pool, then retreat to the quiet of the property’s garden areas when we wanted a break from the sun. The hotel is comfortable enough for a longer stay, but still special enough for a short getaway where you want to feel pampered.
Though a bit removed, the hotel’s location is far from inconvenient. We had the peace of a beach escape, but Santa Marta’s city life was still within easy reach whenever we felt like exploring. This is the kind of place that makes extended stays tempting, especially if you’re traveling as a family or just appreciate having space to spread out.

Staying at Casa de Isablella, we were right in Santa Marta’s historic center. We were a quick two-minute stroll from the beach, about five minutes from Parque de los Novios, and just as close to Plaza de Bolívar. That last part came in clutch because there are several banks and ATMs nearby, which made grabbing cash super easy.
We booked the Double Room, which was spotless and comfortable, with reliable hot water, super fast Wi-Fi, and a bed we were happy to crash into. If you’re a light sleeper like us, we’d recommend booking a room on the ground or second floor. They’re a bit more shielded from street noise and made our nights extra peaceful.
We also have to talk about breakfast. It was hands down one of the best hotel breakfasts we had on the trip. Everything was cooked to order and served at the table, with homemade breads, fresh arepas, and pancakes. On top of that, the staff made the experience even better. They were friendly, chatty, and professional, always greeting us with a smile.

Best Views. Set in Colombia’s largest Caribbean bay, the scenery from Zuana Beach Resort was almost too good to be true, with the Sierra Nevada mountains tumbling straight into the sea. Furthermore, everywhere we went, there were subtle nods to Caribbean culture and folklore, which made even downtime around the resort feel meaningful. Most Intimate. There’s something so special about Hotel Boutique Don Pepe. Housed in what was once a 16th-century convent, it boasts only a handful of rooms. Thus, it feels super intimate. Our room was the Deluxe King Room, and we were so in love with it. It had high ceilings and muted natural colors, and it somehow felt so calm. The best part was that every morning we were woken up by warm light filtering through old windows.
During our downtime, we loved to head to Bar Solymar. There, one drink naturally led to another, especially once we discovered their cocktails were built around beautifully aged Colombian rum. However, if you don’t drink, you can enjoy the inner gardens. They’re not only beautiful but also peaceful, filled with soft breezes and rustling palms.
Moreover, the service made everything better. A fresh cocktail suddenly appeared when we were ready for it. We also got plenty of customized recommendations from the staff, whether it was things to do or top restaurants to visit. The staff at the restaurant even remembered our coffee order!
