Let’s start with Hilton Santa Marta. Even though the beach is public, the hotel maintains a more private-feeling section for guests. It’s set slightly further from the shoreline, but we actually preferred that. It was calmer and less crowded. And the infinity pool? Easily one of the highlights, especially at sunset. The temperature is just right, and it’s impeccably clean.

When we finally made it up to our room, we were more than happy. It was roomy, spotless, and comfortable. Our beds made it very easy to sleep in. The bathroom amenities were a small but noticeable luxury, as they smelled amazing and clearly weren’t your standard-issue hotel products. We also appreciated the filtered water stations, which let us refill our bottles as often as we needed. In Santa Marta’s heat, that’s essential.

Another surprise was the dining credit included with our reservation. The conditions took a minute to understand, but we managed to use them and ended up enjoying delicious meals at two of the hotel’s restaurants. The staff, from the front desk to the restaurant teams, were consistently welcoming. Breakfast deserves its own mention! We kicked off our stay at Decameron Galeon with sandy feet and zero regrets. As the beach at Pozos Colorados is just steps away, it was almost too easy to slip into vacation mode. Surrounded by palm trees, the resort feels like a tropical escape. There’s a large pool for lazy afternoons, tennis courts for a little friendly competition, and even a disco bar for late-night fun.

When we weren’t at the beach, we were busy with the hotel’s activities. We squeezed in a gym session, tried the water bikes, and took a kayaking trip. Plus, there were live performances in the evenings to keep things lively. And when we needed a break, we could always rely on our air-conditioned room.

The food scene definitely delivered. We loved the seafood at Rococó and enjoyed the bold Asian-fusion flavors at Panasiático. This is a great choice, especially if you’re eyeing the El Rodadero area. The location made our trip so easy. It’s right on the beachfront, so walks by the sea were basically mandatory, and everything we needed was just steps away, from drugstores and supermarkets to little craft shops and clothing stores.

One of the highlights of our stay was definitely the restaurant. We ate there more than we planned because the menu had so many tempting options. Every dish we tried was flavorful and in big portions. On top of that, the staff was sharp and professional, and their service matched. And thanks to the always-available coffee station and the convenience of beach towel service, we felt completely taken care of the entire time.

We booked a Superior Sea-View Room on the 10th floor, and what a view! The room was ridiculously spacious, perfect for our group, with a mix of beds, a mini fridge, a sitting area, a desk, and a large, well-lit bathroom. However, the real star was the oversized balcony overlooking the ocean.

We stayed at Estelar Santamar Hotel & Centro de Convenciones on a family trip, and the hotel made everything easy. Even better, the hotel opens directly onto the beach.

While some people might argue that it’s hard to explore Santa Marta’s restaurants and nightlife from the hotel, its remote location was actually a plus for us. It became the perfect setting to completely disconnect and recharge. Beach walks, pool dips, afternoon naps, repeat.

The beachfront setting only elevated our stay. Each morning, we could walk straight onto the sand, split our time between the sea and the outdoor pool, and later unwind in the peaceful garden spaces when we needed a break from the heat. Talk about convenience!

The enthusiasm and service from the staff at GHL Relax Hotel Costa Azul made us quickly realize we were in good hands, even though we hadn’t spent a night there that time. The staff welcomed us warmly and made check-in quick and stress-free. As expected from one of the top beachfront hotels in Santa Marta Colombia, the staff even handled our luggage without us having to ask!

That said, our room was very comfortable, with a small closet and a mini fridge stocked with snacks and drinks. There was also a small sink near the entrance, so we could always wash our hands first thing first. If you want to splurge, you can choose one of the suites.

We loved the pool area, which includes both a kiddie pool and a larger pool for adults. The hotel is about 10–15 minutes from the airport, making it super convenient, though the nearest grocery store is a short cab ride away. There’s a small shop on-site for essentials, too.

Tamaca Beach Resort is an easy pick for this list. We still vividly remember our first impression. When we first stepped into the bright lobby, we were immediately awed by the infinity pool and the stretch of beach just beyond. Even though our room wasn’t quite ready yet, the staff didn’t miss a beat. They welcomed us to settle in for lunch and handed us towels so we could head straight to the pool and beach instead of waiting around.

When we finally got our room keys, we were thrilled to discover a cozy little balcony overlooking the ocean. There’s just something special about having that private outdoor space to sip coffee. The room itself was spotless and comfortable.

We also loved having the on-site restaurant just steps away, and there was plenty of variety to try. Location-wise, Tamaca couldn’t have worked better for us. It was the perfect home base for tours and day trips, and we always felt secure coming and going thanks to the visible security and car checks at the entrance. We enjoyed the freshly made arepas and had a vibrant selection of tropical fruits. Having stayed at plenty of beach hotels in Santa Marta, we can confidently say this was one of the most impressive morning spreads we’ve experienced.

And when we finally peeled ourselves away from the shoreline, there was plenty more to enjoy. Whether it was lounging by the pool, dining at the on-site restaurant, or fitting in a workout at the fitness center, everything we needed was right there. However, our stay was beyond scenery. As we explored the grounds, we started to notice how deeply rooted the experience is in Caribbean identity.
