Choosing Marriott hotels in the English capital can be daunting, considering just how many options we were faced with. The Westin London City
6
Best London City Marriott. We begin with one of the most contemporary of London’s Marriotts, The Westin London City. When this five-star Marriott outpost opened, the focus was on wellness, making it one of the strongest additions to the hotel scene in London City. Moreover, the riverside location between Millenium and Southwark Bridges with spectacular views of the Thames was unmatched.
“Views of the Thames and all of London’s iconic landmarks on our very first visit to the city? Sign me up!”
WOW Travel
This Westin is the UK’s first outpost for the US Marriott-owned Westin chain, and it shows. The slick-with-a-dose-of-American-cool vibe complements the characterful touches well, like the entrance lobby’s suspended paper sculpture. But, our favorite was the softly lit basement spa with a daybed-lined pool and a sleek whirlpool. What’s more, it also had a thermal suite with an experience shower, an ice bath, a steam room and sauna. A gym aside, the hotel had a restaurant and the Hithe + Seek wine bar. It overlooked the Thames and was the perfect place for cocktails with views.
Finally, it was the 200+ rooms we loved, the best of which had views over the Shard or St Paul’s. The rooms felt restful, especially with the trademark Westin “Heavenly Beds,” neutral color palettes, and the soft, jewel-toned pops. If that wasn’t enough, the marble bathrooms were stocked with Aqua Viva bath products.

The London EDITION
5
Best boutique. The London EDITION is fun Fitzrovia bolt hole, striking the perfect balance between elegant and edgy in the heart of SoHo. So, shopper’s paradise at Oxford Street is merely 10 minutes away, but there were a lot more things than just that that we loved about this hotel. Within the columned façade with the bulb-embossed entrance sat a showstopper of a 19th-century stucco ceiling in the lobby, which itself doubled as a low-lit bar.
The superb service and the warm and friendly staff only elevated our staying experience, which also included the sommelier who taught us a great deal about the wine we drank. Despite there being no spa, there was a well-equipped fitness center. However, we loved the drinking and dining options here, especially our evening drinks at the Lobby Bar with its impressive pool table set. Nightcaps were best enjoyed at the initmate, 19th-century-club-like Punch Room, which served nearly 30 speciality punches. The main restaurant served not only other meals but also a relaxed and hearty breakfast. And of couse, the Oxford Street location was a winner.
We loved the delightful havens of cozy comfort that the chalet-style rooms were, with minimalistic but chic decor. Wall-hidden drink cabinets, artistic lights, pristine white bathrooms, and the balconies in the larger suites, like ours, with spectacular London views were the pinnacle of modern luxury.

London Marriott Hotel County Hall

Best location. There’s no denying that all of London’s Marriotts have extremely coveted locations. However, one cannot beat the location of the London Marriott Hotel County Hall. Sitting at the foot of the Westminster Bridge, with sweeping views of the Thames, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and even the London Eye!
What we particularly loved was the quirky, elegant nods to the city landmarks throughout: the bowler hat-printed curtains and the orange chairs akin to the seats at the former London County Council chamber. The traditional entrance with Victorian-style wall lamps, a marble fireplace, and shining parquet flooring was grand, as were the amenities. Besides the main restaurant, we enjoyed afternoon tea in the Library and complimentary breakfasts at the M-Club Lounge. The sauna and fitness center aside, the huge indoor pool was definitely one of the highlights.
The digs, though, were completely contemporary with king beds, carpeted floors, muted grey-and-white palettes with occasional pops of color, TVs, minibars, and marble bathrooms with Floris bath products. Since we had a suite on the top floor, we even had a balcony right next to the London Eye!

London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square

London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square is the original London Marriott, occupying a prime spot in the heart of Mayfair. The plummy Mayfair address also puts the hotel close to some of the city’s most coveted dining and shopping spots, as well as the utterly green Hyde Park.
On the inside, the welcome drink and the grand monochrome marble lobby was a fitting introduction to our trip, befitting the first London Marriott. Warm and friendly service aside, the hotel also featured a fitness center, an executive lounge, and a massive, pillar-free ballroom. We started off our evenings with creative cocktails at the 1920s-themed Luggage Room, followed by an Asian dinner at Gordon Ramsay’s glitzy Lucky Cat. If you’re staying in the executive rooms, you also get access to the executive lounge, complete with a complimentary breakfast. If not, we’d highly recommend digging into an à la carte breakfast at the ground floor Gordon Ramsay Bar and Grill.
We loved the cool, calming look of the rooms thanks to the soft grey, deep blue, and crisp white palette. Comfy beds aside, the rooms also had comforts like slippers and robes, minibars, and marble bathrooms. If you want to splurge, some of the suites have balconies and fireplaces too.

London Marriott Hotel Park Lane

In the very heart of Mayfair lies the London Marriott Hotel Park Lane, right opposite Marble Arch at one end of the prestigious Oxford Street. The marble lobby with the stunning floral displays and centerpiece of a fireplace caught our eye immediately.
When it’s a location as central as this one in London, one doesn’t expect too many amenities. However, this Park Lane Marriott outpost was a delightful surprise with its well-equipped basement gym and an indoor heated pool. In fact, it’s one of the only hotels in this neighborhood to even have a pool in the first place, especially one that was so inviting with lounges and a steam room. Lanes of London served classic British fare, including a superb breakfast that included the likes of egg dishes, berry-topped pancakes, granola, hash browns, waffles, and even a whole lot of continental options.
We were most impressed by the soundproofing in the rooms, given the busy road that the hotel sat on. Neutral hues aside, they featured padded, ceiling-high headboards, marble bathrooms with high-tech fixes and Penhaligons bath products. Did we mention that the Premier Suites even have deep marble tubs? Yep. In fact, this is one of the best family hotels in London.

JW Marriott Grosvenor House London

Best overall. One of Park Lane’s shining jewels, the iconic JW Marriott Grosvenor House London is the very embodiment of classic luxury. The views of Hyde Park and the stunning Victorian architecture of what is one of the city’s original luxury hotels were breathtaking. In fact, it was the first London hotel to have ensuites and is famed to be where the late Queen Elizabeth II learnt to skate! Even today, it remains a London favorite.

The former home of the Dukes of Gloucester and Westminster, this JW Marriott outpost felt more like a regal private residence, but with typically London stuff thrown into the mix: think afternoon tea and top-hatted door staff. Personalized service is the standout here, with the hotel reaching out prior to the guests’ arrivals to know all about personal preferences. A well-equipped fitness center aside, the hotel also has an executive lounge, a yoga room, a steakhouse with the largest collection of whiskies outside the US, and even a lobby bakery/cafe. That’s not all; it’s home to the famed award-winning Corrigan’s Mayfair too! Breakfast is befitting the brand and location; think a hearty spread that included everything from classic Full English to lobster omelets.
The nearly 500 rooms and suites all boast a subtle nod to Hyde Park with an understated botanical theme, with the suites akin to glamorous private residences. Comfy beds, Nespresso machines, and marble bathrooms with Aromatherapy Associates and Bvlgari bath products are standard in all rooms and suites, with some suites even featuring terraces. The color palette is equally fitting: fawn, cream, lilac and dusky pink with pops of deep blue, yellow, burnt orange, and floral motifs.
