Our first recommendation is Hotel Dei Capitani, set right in the heart of Montalcino. The building dates back to the 18th century, and you can definitely feel that sense of history as you walk through it. Don’t worry, though, as this hotel doesn’t feel “ancient”. During our trip, everything was comfortable and well-kept.

We were lucky enough to get one of the rooms that faced the back of the hotel, which meant we got incredible views of the Orcia and Arbia valleys every morning. Besides that, the garden and pool area below looked gorgeous. That’s not all, as there are also other rooms, which include split-level rooms with an old-world vibe that perfectly fits the town’s medieval feel.

One of the things we liked the most was the sun terrace. It was so peaceful to just lounge in the big chairs and take in the view. And if we weren’t doing that, we would be swimming or planning our next wine tasting.

Podere Brizio may just be the kind of Tuscan stay you’ve been hoping for. The property is surrounded by olive trees and vineyards, giving it that classic countryside vibe. It’s part of a working farm that produces Brunello wine and olive oil, which adds a nice local touch. Throughout our stay, everything felt effortless. We had quiet mornings, open views, and plenty of space.

Breakfasts were a real highlight. Every morning, we were served homemade cakes and local seasonal products, and it all tasted fresh yet simple in the best way. A staff member even offered us tea with lemon and herbs they’d just picked from the garden! The team there made us feel really welcome.

Though sightseeing trips were super convenient, we spent most of our time on the property itself. There’s a pool, a small spa, and even a tennis court — all free to use. Of course, you can also unwind by wine tasting or exploring nearby towns.

Best Budget. We absolutely loved our stay at Casa Vacanze la Pineta! For a budget hotel in Montalcino Italy, the location was perfect. It’s tucked in a peaceful area just a 15 or 20-minute walk from the city center. Having private parking right on the property was also a total win, especially since we didn’t have to stress about finding a spot after exploring all day. At night, it was wonderfully still, perfect for light sleepers like us.

The apartment itself was bright, spotless, and thoughtfully arranged. We stayed on the second floor, and the terrace view was just breathtaking. The space had two separate rooms that gave us plenty of privacy, a massive kitchen stocked with everything we needed for cooking, and comfy beds. Each room had its own air conditioner, too. We also appreciated the complimentary bottles of water.

Of course, we can’t forget Sara, our wonderful host. She was so responsive and friendly. Any question we had, she replied in minutes. There was even a printed guide folder waiting for us, filled with local tips and recommendations. It’s those little details that made our stay so memorable.

We stayed at agriturismo l’arte dei semplici mainly because it was close to Podere Il Ripi, where we had a wine tasting planned. However, it turned out to be such a good choice. The place is quiet, pretty, and has that relaxed farm stay vibe that makes you feel instantly comfortable.

We decided to have dinner at the on-site restaurant, and we were so glad we did. The food was excellent. It was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. After that meal, we couldn’t imagine going anywhere else to eat. There’s also a wine shop on the property, which made it easy to pick up a bottle to take home.

Furthermore, our room was clean and comfortable, and we appreciated the small details like the complimentary bottle of wine and the still and sparkling water waiting for us. So thoughtful of them! And when we weren’t relaxing in our room, we were probably wandering around the garden and or swimming in the pool.

Mastrojanni Relais

Tucked away in the rolling hills of Tuscany, about 15 minutes from Montalcino, Mastrojanni Relais is a secret haven. When we arrived, Matteo greeted us with such warmth. He showed us to our rooms, an exclusive area on the top floor of one of the buildings, and we were speechless. Each of the three rooms was beautifully decorated and stocked with a complimentary bottle of Mastrojanni wine that didn’t last long.

Speaking of which, the restaurant became one of our favorite parts of the stay. The staff were genuinely friendly and attentive. One evening, we opted for the pairing menu, and it was such a treat. Each dish was perfectly matched with incredible wines. It was one of the best dining experiences we had in Tuscany.

Whenever we had some spare time, we would lounge by the pool, soaking up panoramic views that stretched over the vineyards and hills. The private wine tour was another highlight. Anna, our guide, wasn’t only friendly but impressively knowledgeable, weaving together the history, process, and personality behind each bottle.

If you want to explore Montalcino at your own pace while enjoying endless glasses of wine, stay at Borgo Canalicchio Di Sopra Relais. First of all, the location is super convenient. Staying here, we were only a short drive to Montalcino and close to the other towns we wanted to visit. Lucia, who managed the property, made everything easy. She took great care of us and even hosted our wine tasting, where she shared so much about the local wines and the region in general.

The property itself was beautiful. It was stylish, spotless, and surrounded by vineyards in every direction. Our room felt modern but still cozy, with all the little touches that make a stay feel special. You could tell how much attention went into keeping everything in perfect condition, from the decor to the little details like the bedding and amenities.

Most days, we ended up just enjoying the place itself. We would relax by the pool with a glass of wine or sit on the terrace watching the light change over the vines. One of our favorite parts was starting the day with cappuccinos, brought to us by the amazing staff, and ending it with a glass of red at sunset.

On our first morning, we joined a truffle hunter and his dogs on a woodland adventure, later strolled through sun-drenched vineyards, and even shaped clay alongside a local ceramic artist. When we wanted quiet, the spa provided it in abundance. The heated outdoor pool, with its endless view of the Tuscan hills, also became our favorite place to simply float and breathe.

Dining was the highlight of it all. The Michelin-starred Ristorante Campo del Drago turned each course into a reflection of Tuscany’s landscape and flavor. Dishes like smoked eel with caramelized carrots, millet with walnuts and roots, and a honey parfait made from local nectar showcased the region’s soul with every bite.

Tucked just 10 minutes from the charming town of Montalcino, Capanna Suites turned out to be the Tuscan dream we didn’t know we needed. The view alone was enough to mesmerize us. We’re talking about endless rolling hills, golden vineyards, and that magical Tuscan light. We seriously couldn’t stop taking pictures!

Moreover, our room had that rustic charm but was surprisingly comfortable in a modern way. It had warm wood beams, sleek finishes, and plenty of cozy touches. The bed was so comfortable we had to drag ourselves out of it in the mornings, and the bathroom had everything we could possibly need (plus a few luxurious extras).

We didn’t make it to the infinity pool, but it looked absolutely stunning, perched right over the valley with a view that stretches for miles. Breakfast was such a lovely start to each day. We had fresh pastries, local cheeses, and great coffee, all served in a bright dining room overlooking the countryside. We did have dinner at the property, and wow, the food was incredible. Pair that with a bottle (or two) of local wine, and it was the perfect ending to a perfect Tuscan day.

Best for Wine Tasting. We stayed at Tenuta CastelGiocondo during a quiet off-season trip to Montalcino, and it was exactly the kind of place we needed to slow down. The property sits among rolling vineyards and stone buildings. It’s not a spot for a quick stop. Instead, we think this is where you come to relax, read, and take it easy. We had such a great time thanks to our suite, which was spacious and comfortable, with a sitting area, a big walk-in shower, and even a bathtub. With sunsets from our window, everything felt calm and effortless.

One of the best perks is the small spa area, which has a jacuzzi and sauna that overlook the vineyards. There are lounge chairs outside, and the whole setup is included in your room rate. All you have to do is just book your time online in one-hour slots. We liked that it opens early and stays open late, so it’s easy to fit in even if you’re out exploring during the day. It was clean, quiet, and never crowded.

We also did a wine tasting at the estate, which was a highlight. CastelGiocondo is one of the first four producers of Brunello di Montalcino, dating back to the 1800s, so it’s pretty special to experience it right where it all started. The staff walked us through the wines and shared some background about the production, and everything was paired with simple, traditional Tuscan snacks. It was a fun and laid-back way to wrap up our stay.

Best Resort. Our stay at Castello di Velona Resort, Thermal SPA & Winery was everything we hoped for, and more. Set among the vineyards of Montalcino, this castle resort offers that perfect mix of Tuscan charm and luxury comfort. It’s easy to reach, too, as it’s just a 30-minute drive from Siena. Or, if you want to go big and make a statement, you can even arrive by helicopter since there’s a helipad on site.

The spa and pools were the highlight for us, especially after exploring the countryside. We also love that the hotel produces its own wine and olive oil, which are featured in the regional dishes served on the terrace. Meanwhile, the rooms are spacious and elegant, with marble bathrooms, fireplaces, and vineyard views. If you stay in the newer wing, you also get a private patio and a spa bath! It’s a nice upgrade if you want extra relaxation.

Though we enjoyed the luxurious stuff, it was the service that impressed us the most. From the second we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely cared for. Everyone, from the valet to the general manager, went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. It’s rare to find a place that combines world-class elegance with such down-to-earth hospitality, but Castello di Velona nails it.
