Zlatni Rat Beach Resort
11
How would you like to stay in an upscale beachfront hotel that is hardly a minute’s walk to Zlatni Rat? That’s why we’ve started with the amazing Zlatni Rat Beach Resort, which overlooks the famous beach and the Adriatic Sea. This peaceful coastal oasis ensured that we could get all the rest we wanted with lovely views of the beach, which we could reach at any time of the day, thanks to our proximity.
Choose from a host of bright, polished, and contemporary rooms and one/two-bedroom apartments. What’s more, they all came with minifridges, flat-screen TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi, and balconies with garden/sea views. If you want more space, the apartments even feature separate living and sleeping areas. Are you looking for something special? The six deluxe suites even have grassy terraces and private hot tubs, perfect for relaxing.
Besides an excellent staff that’s available 24/7, the hotel also has a restaurant that serves all meals, including cocktails, brunch, and high tea. In fact, they even offer renting an exclusive skipper-guided boat to visit hidden coves around the Adriatic Sea or go diving and windsurfing. The best feature was the breakfast buffet that was served in the hotel restaurant, which we enjoyed with superb views of Zlatni Rat Beach.

Hotel Kaštil, Bol

Hotel Kaštil sits in a centuries-old stone structure right on the seafront in the pretty town of Bol, making for an inexpensive yet romantic hideaway for couples. The Baroque structure, which belonged to the local Vusios noble family, became Bol’s first hotel and was the pioneer for tourism on the island!
We were enchanted right off the bat, as a lovely old marble staircase, complete with stone arches, led us to the three upper floors. While there were no extra amenities per se, the hotel did have an extremely friendly and helpful staff who’d help arrange everything from restaurant reservations to excursions. Additionally, we enjoyed discounts at the Thalasso Wellness Centre at Hotel Elaphusa nearby. While the on-site restaurant served all meals on a lovely first-floor level terrace, the seafront pizzeria was ideal for light meals. Our favorite was the Varadero bar, which would serve cocktails and coffee all day, winding up with DJ music after dark.
We had the choice of 32 small-ish rooms, which were very comfortable, though. In fact, most of them had sea views, and many, including ours, even had lovely wrought-iron balconies. 80s-style wooden furniture and dark green carpets paired wonderfully with mod-cons like modern bathrooms, satellite TVs, and minibars.
“Soundproofed windows, sea views from the balcony, and a checkout time of 12 noon – what could be better?”

Boutique Hotel Bol, Bol

The modern Boutique Hotel Bol in the town of Bol on the island of Brač is like the baby bear’s bed from the tale of Goldilocks — it’s just right. Tucked on a hillside, the hotel has wonderful views of the Adriatic Sea and Hvar Island. Even then, it’s a less than 10-minute walk to the main town center, while Zlatni Rat beach is a 20-minute walk along the delightful pine tree-lined seaside promenade. Even then, the hotel has a shuttle to the beach, as well as the bus station and port in Bol. What could be better?
An olive theme runs across the three-storied modern structure, with it being the dominant color both in rooms and common areas. Adding to the nature theme are wood panels, hardwood floors, and decorative pebbles. What’s more, the amenities included a small fitness center, an inviting outdoor pool, and even a Finnish-style sauna. The staff was more than happy to help with vehicle hires, booking excursions, etc. Not only was on-site parking free, but the hotel also offered complimentary pick-up services from the nearby port and bus stations. Additionally, there were perks and extras with discounts to watersports, transfers, taxis, and even spa treatments (outside), free parking at Zlatni Rat beach, and even welcome drinks. Besides delicious breakfast spreads, the all-day lobby bar served cocktails, beer, wine, and cold and hot drinks.
All rooms are bright and spacious with olive-green furnishings, pebble accents, and natural wood, with amenities like bathrooms with slippers and bathrobes, electric kettles, and minibars. Our sought-after Deluxe Sea View suite has a south-facing balcony with partial Adriatic Sea views. However, even other rooms opened onto terraces overlooking the mountains and the pool.

Hotel Villa Adriatica, Supetar

Best value for money. The family-run, adults-only Hotel Villa Adriatica sits in a quiet residential area close to the beach in Supetar. In fact, Banja Beach is a mere 5-minute walk, and the historic town center is a 15-minute stroll along the lovely seaside promenade.
We loved the abundance of cozy corners at the hotel for lounging outdoors, such as the alfresco bar area and the plant-filled garden dotted with palm trees. However, we were thrilled to find a surprising number of amenities, given the mid-range status of the hotel. With a focus on personalized service, the best on-site amenities included the heated outdoor pool and multiple hot tubs in the verdant gardens. Additionally, there were many indoor and outdoor bar areas to lounge and enjoy drinks. Moreover, there’s also an indoor wellness area with an indoor hot tub and sauna, with a massage treatment menu (paid). Despite there being no restaurant, the hotel had an à la carte lunch menu of light meals (sandwiches, salads, soups) and served a fantastic buffet breakfast.
We had the choice of 23 rooms with cheerful additions like soft mood lighting, vibrant artwork, decorative textured wallpaper, and wicker furniture. What’s more, all rooms opened onto terraces, but the best of the lot were the four second-floor sea-facing rooms, which is where we were. Slick bathrooms, electric kettles with free coffee/tea, and minibars rounded up the amenities here.

Villa Giardino Heritage Boutique Hotel, Bol
7
In the heart of Bol’s old town, Villa Giardino sits in a charming, three-storied whitewashed villa with Venetian-style window shutters and a beautiful, secluded garden looking straight out of one of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s stories. As we were greeted with a glass of homemade lemonade in the aromatic plant-filled gardens, we felt like we’d stepped back into the golden age of the Mediterranean. Not only is it just a five-minute uphill walk from the town center and waterfront, but it’s also a delightful 25-minute stroll to Zlatni Rat, along the pine tree-lined seaside promenade.
The serene vibe is everywhere with tons of quiet spaces to linger in: the rambling front and back gardens, the plant-filled inner courtyard, and the cozy art- and book-filled lounge. The warm staff and the concierge provide personalized service, including booking excursions of all sorts and even guided olive oil and wine tastings. Moreover, the hotel offered free pick-up and drop-off services to and from the bus station and the port. Our favorite place was the outdoor swimming pool in the back garden, which felt like we were in our own Garden of Eden. Finally, the covered terrace gardens are where we’d be served generous buffet breakfast spreads every day. Did you know that this is also where evening happy hour took place? Yes!
The digs boasted wooden floors and furnishings, wicker baskets, large potted plants, white curtains, and natural fiber rugs, complemented by mod-cons. That said, 11 of the 15 rooms had sea views, with the rest enjoying views of the lush gardens. If you want to splurge, the Presidential Suite boasts double French doors opening onto a huge terrace with sunbeds and panoramic sea views!

Hotel Osam, Supetar

We were looking for an adults-only hotel on Brač, and what better than Hotel Osam that sat right on the car-free, palm tree-lined seaside promenade in Supetar? Not only were we away from the traffic noise, but we were also close to all the seaside action. Moreover, the island bus and mainland ferry stations are a 5-minute walk, while the lovely Banja Beach is a 10-minute walk.
The hotel is spread over two interconnected structures, a 1970s-style structure and a handsome historic palazzo. Aside from attentive and friendly service, the highlight here was the outdoor pool that sat on an upper seafront terrace, complete with loungers. Additionally, we also had access to the outdoor pool and wellness amenities at the nearby sister resort, Sentido Kaktus Resort. Afternoons were reserved for the oversized sofas in the media room, where we’d munch on popcorn and watch movies on the smart TV. While the pretty restaurant serves a Mediterranean menu and breakfast, the rooftop bar is extremely popular for its DJ nights and views.
Room interiors are simple but stylish and set to a monochromatic color palette of black tufted headboards, crisp white linens, soft grey accent walls, and wooden flooring. Some rooms and suites in the period building feature original stone walls. Almost all open onto sea-facing balconies – with those on the upper floors offering the best views. Though the Luxury Harbour Suite lacks a balcony, it makes up for this with direct views of the picturesque harbor. Rooms come with minibars, electric kettles and safes, and bathrooms are fitted with roomy walk-in showers. Superior rooms and suites add more floor space and sofas or sitting areas.

Hotel Lipa, Postira

In the heart of the northern Brač gem that is Postira, the four-star Hotel Lipa sits right across from the pebbly Porat Beach, with stunning views of the Adriatic Sea. With a beachside location that’s close to everything in Postira, what could possibly be better?
Choose from 28 rooms and 6 junior suites, which sit in a tasteful and purpose-built modern structure. What’s more, they were all airy and bright, and featured terraces or balconies with wonderful sea views. Moreover, mod-cons such as minifridges and flat-screen TVs ensured that we were comfortable when we stayed, with the larger apartments even adding separate living areas with plush pull-out sofas.
Downstairs, the hotel’s amenities made sure that we enjoyed a laid-back and luxurious holiday. Our favorite part was the wonderful outdoor pool, along with the sauna and the jacuzzi. The owner, who was busy enough as it is, even ran his own farm that used home-produced olive oil, wine, vegetables, etc. at the on-site restaurant, which also featured terrace dining when the weather was nice. Not only could in-room massage treatments be arranged, but the hotel also had a brand-new, manmade private beach around the bay, making it one of the few hotels in the heart of Lipa to have its own stretch of sand!

Bluesun Hotel Elaphusa, Bol

Best family-friendly hotel. Helmed by the Croatian hotel chain with several properties up and down the Dalmatian Coast, Bluesun Hotel Elaphusa is a lovely family-friendly hotel for the entire family. Sitting on a seafront promenade amidst pine trees just outside Bol, we were a mere 10-minute walk from Zlatni Rat. What’s more, this former, typically 1970s resort hotel has undergone a renovation, transforming it into the contemporary yet laidback hotel we see today.
Besides an excellent staff, the hotel is centered around the huge freeform outdoor pool, complete with a kids’ pool, parasols, and sunbeds. After a swimming session, we’d head to the excellent Thalasso Wellness Center with 12 treatment rooms, many saunas, a hydro-massage whirlpool, and a heated seawater pool. Moreover, Borak Beach, with its plethora of watersports, sits right out front. Don’t miss eating at both the on-site restaurants, the concierge’s services, and the hotel’s packages.
Choose from 306 light and airy rooms and suites, all of which have sea-inspired blue and emerald hues, comfy beds, wooden floors, minibars, and spacious tiled bathrooms with bathtubs and ‘Am Aroma’ bath products. Even the most basic rooms had French balconies!

Hotel Vitar, Bol

Best views. What if there was a way to enjoy the spectacular bird’s-eye views of Zlatni Rat and still be able to reach it quickly? Welcome to Hotel Vitar, which is perched high above the town center of Bol but is still within a 10-minute stroll of it. Since Zlatni Rat beach is just under a mile away, the hotel even has a free shuttle to transport us there and back quickly. What could be better? We’ll tell you that too; there’s a free shuttle to the port and bus station, where passenger ferries depart for Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar, and Korčula every day.
Don’t let its box-like, whitewashed exterior deter your spirits; this might just be Bol’s most stylish hotel. We were immediately dazzled by the lobby with lush greenery against austere black walls, which created a surprisingly intimate and relaxed vibe. The rooftop with the open-air swimming pool, whirlpool tub, and sweeping sea views was our favorite spot. There was also a small sauna and tons of sun loungers for relaxing. Small glass-enclosed fitness areas on every floor, free transfers everywhere, free parking, discounts for restaurants, spa treatments, taxis, and watersports make this place extremely desirable. Even then, buffet-style breakfasts are served in the light-filled dining room every day.
Choose from 27 minimalist rooms, all of which feature warm wooden floors, satiny silver blackout curtains, designer, custom-made furnishings, and decor. Besides the open-plan bathrooms, there was a boatload of creature comforts, such as large comfy beds, electric kettles, stocked minibars, and balconies in all but five rooms. We loved our Deluxe room, which had a freestanding bathtub and sea views.

Zlatni Bol Apartments, Bol

If you want to freedom to visit Zlatni Rat at any time during your Brač vacation, then choose the modern self-catering apartments of Zlatni Bol Apartments. Not only is the beach a mere 20-minute walk, but the apartments are set in a quieter part of the town, so we could catch up on sleep too. If that wasn’t enough, Bol’s lovely fishing harbour, shops, cafés, and restaurants are all around. Owners Tamara and Goran live on the top floor, with the apartments spread over three stories.
Choose from four spacious and elegant apartments and five studios, all with kitchenettes and glass doors opening onto either terraces or south-facing balconies with alfresco furniture. Candles, cream linen curtains, wooden floors, and whitewashed walls all create an upscale, homely ambiance. Not only were the spaces air-conditioned, but there were even ceiling fans in some rooms for air circulation. Moreover, tiled bathrooms had modern fittings and bath products. If that wasn’t enough, all apartments had in-built fully-equipped kitchens with everything we possibly needed to whip up meals. The best bit, though, is that the ground-floor studios, like ours, even had patios with barbecues.
The charming hosts did everything to make sure we enjoyed our stay, whether it was sharing useful information or booking excursions and even watersports. In fact, guests here got a 10% discount at Borak Beach’s Big Blue for scuba diving, sea kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and windsurfing! The supermarket, bakery, and fresh fruit markets, which were a five-minute walk, catered to all our needs.

Hotel Lemongarden, Sutivan
1
Best overall. Sitting at the top of the list is Hotel Lemongarden in the town of Sutivan. This beachfront hotel offers superb and unobstructed views of the Port of Sutivan and the Adriatic Sea. Did you know that this hotel is also an adults-only paradise and has a private beach? Yes! This lush and verdant heritage hotel’s gardens bloom with Mediterranean flowers and trees, complete with antique stone structures.
Set across three adjacent 300-year-old stone structures, the hotel’s properties are surrounded by the manicured, lush gardens full of herb and vegetable patches, lemon, hibiscus, rose, and palm trees, and bushes of bougainvillea. Whether it’s the private beach or the palm-fringed pool, the vibe was that of a quiet country estate. Even though there’s a spa with a Finnish sauna and steam room, we loved the massages that were offered at the beach pavilion. Back at the hotel, a cocktail lounge and a signature destination restaurant serve delicious drinks and farm-fresh modern Mediterranean fare. While we could bike to the beach on free bikes provided by the hotel, the hotel even arranged free transfers by golf cart. Additionally, the staff was very helpful and could book everything from restaurant reservations to excursions.
All 35 light-filled rooms across the 3 structures featured Mediterranean-inspired décor, with bright colour palettes and hues, vibrant and contemporary artwork, and floral-patterned textiles. What’s more, they added stylish features like luxurious bathrooms, design-style lamps, high-quality linens, and Murano chandeliers for extravagance. The best bit is that all room categories have either a terrace or a balcony with garden or sea views.

Where to Stay in Brač, Croatia?
While the pretty towns of Bol and Supetar are extremely popular, there are also some lovely towns to stay in the island’s rocky interior. Bol on the island’s southern coast is vibrant and popular, mostly due to the fact that it’s home to the world-famous Zlatni Rat beach, a stunning stretch of golden-white sand extending into the Adriatic Sea. It has a great selection of restaurants, shops, and a lovely boardwalk. Did you know that it’s also one of the most popular catamaran charter locations in Croatia? Yes! Next, there’s the northern Supetar, the island’s largest town and an excellent starting point for exploring the island. Not only is it home to the main ferry port from the Croatian mainland, but it also has a charming harbor, historic streets, local eateries, and gorgeous views of Split.
For a quiet, serene, and charming experience, head to the northwestern and southwestern towns of Milna and Sutivan. While both have a tranquil and relaxed atmosphere, Sutivan is believed to be the oldest town on the coastline of Brač. Finally, choose the towns of Blaca and Pučišća for history and architecture. While Blaca is a cliffside monastic settlement rather than a traditional town, the latter is famed for its stunning stone architecture.
