Le Clos Sainte-Marguerite
11
We begin with Le Clos Sainte-Marguerite, a wonderfully rustic-chic B&B in the heart of Beaune. Tucked in a 14th-century house, this B&B is all about Murano glass everywhere, period furnishings, creaky, exposed beams, and modern interiors and touches that made staying here an absolute pleasure.
With just five rooms, the vibe here was peaceful, serene, and private. Our suite suited us perfectly – pun unintended – and even had a fireplace. Moreover, the bathroom even had a huge deep-soaking bathtub for two people, making for a very romantic ambiance. If you prefer smaller rooms, then the Double Rooms are just as cozy and comfortable, ensuring that you’ll never have to sacrifice comfort for space.
Our mornings at Le Close were slow and began with true-blue French breakfasts; indulgent, local, and fresh. The days were spent exploring Beaune’s and the Burgundy region’s history, and we couldn’t wait to get back to the quiet serenity of Le Clos.

L’Hôtel

On the fringes of the Old Town of Beaune sits the charming L’Hôtel, which sits in a traditional 19th-century blue-shuttered mansion. On the inside, the interiors are all contemporary chic without losing the original atmosphere of the structure. Views of the Petite Place Carnot are a bonus, indeed. With just 14 rooms to choose from, staying here feels exclusive. Moreover, the rooms are spacious and contemporary with rich details: think opulent bathrooms, exposed beams, rich curtains, and mahogany furnishings.
This place is a boon for foodies, thanks to the presence of the award-winning restaurant that serves classic French food. Moreover, there’s even a café bistro which serves snacks, which we could enjoy in the alluring and romantic interior courtyard. If that wasn’t enough, the hotel is also close to the Burgundy Wine Museum and Alex Gambal House, and even arranges for wine tours.

Les Chambres de l’Imprimerie

Located just outside the Old City walls, Les Chambres de l’Imprimerie made for a memorable stay as it was still close enough to walk to all the top sights. This industrial printing house-turned-B&B features a restored, large, and cozy living room and a dining room, which is where breakfast was served every morning. When the weather was nice, which is when we were visiting, we tucked into juice, chia pudding, creamy yogurt, homemade jams, fresh sourdough, and coffee in the sun-kissed courtyard. After a long day of sightseeing, the lounge, the gardens, and the table tennis and table football kept us entertained. Or, you could open a bottle of one of the delicious local wines and settle into our spacious and elegant rooms, complete with seating areas.
The list of activities at this B&B is never-ending. For instance, there are guided wine tours of the region recommended by our host, Sebastien. There’s even a bar where we could enjoy drinks, a terrace, and an outdoor seating area where we could unwind, and cycles for exploring the region.
We had the choice of just five rooms, which made staying here feel very intimate. Our suite overlooked the lush courtyard and was warm and roomy with a blend of mod-cons and vintage details. Comfy beds, polished wooden floors, flatscreen TVs, luxe bathrooms; this place really does have it all.

La Cour de Beaune

Best adults-only property. If you’re looking for a luxurious Beaune, France, Bed and Breakfast that’s adults-only, then check out La Cour de Beaune. It’s hidden on a quiet little lane right in the center of town, making it a short walk to all of Beaune’s highlights and sights. If that wasn’t enough, there are a plethora of wine cellars and vineyards around, making it the perfect romantic base for us to explore Beaune at our own pace. We loved the lush and peaceful atmosphere of the B&B, which extended to the wonderful homemade breakfast that was served on the terrace. Did we mention that Véronique even helped in arranging dinners, cellar tours, and more? Yes.
We loved everything about this 18th-century-built property, which has been lovingly renovated and radiates with understated elegance. The 2024 renovation was carried out by Véronique Capmeil, stylist of luxury houses such as Guerlain, Chanel, and Cartier. There were just two room options, one overlooking Beaune and the other overlooking the gardens. We loved our garden-facing Côté jardin room, which opened onto the gardens. Radiating a cocooning spirit, the room was both warm and spectacular with a sleek graphic bathroom, an inviting living room, and even a decorative fireplace.

Ermitage de Corton

Best kid-friendly. Are you traveling to Beaune with kids? Look no further than Ermitage de Corton, a luxurious, classic country house sitting in the lovely town of Chorey-les-Beaune. It sits amidst vineyards right opposite the Corton “mountain”, hence the name. This idyllic bucolic retreat is all about focusing on regional wines and fantastic cuisine amid the lush green gardens and rolling hills.
Food is the main focus here, as we said earlier, with the chef aiming to shine the spotlight on local produce. The modern meticulous cuisine has a traditional Gallic line-up which is served in the stylish restaurant or in its inviting patio. What’s more, they even have a sommelier who offers wine tastings in the hotel’s cellar, as well as wine tours beyond. Moreover, the concierge can also arrange for other activities such as visiting the museums around, helicopter flights over the surrounding vineyards, and even bicycle rides through the countryside. Even kids have a ton to do at the hotel, like board games, a large garden with swings, and even goats to pet! Meanwhile, adults can relax at the outdoor pool or enjoy massages at the spa.
We loved the traditionally designed rooms featuring antique furnishings, wooden floors, and chandeliers.

L’Abbaye de la Bussière

Ah, L’Abbaye de la Bussière, the very epitome of a French wine country escape. Sitting in what is a converted 20th-century abbey, we can only hope that even the original monks lived this well. Think spiral staircases, stone arches, and walls surrounded by acres of vineyards and parkland, complemented extremely well by newly renovated interiors that look straight out of a design magazine. By now, we knew that despite its monastic heritage, the modern-day “Abbaye” was anything but austere.

With just 20 rooms and suites, staying here was as intimate and exclusive as it got. What’s more, they all differed greatly in layout and somewhat in style, keeping all original features in place. Nevertheless, they all featured rich fabrics, antique woodwork, and lavish modern touches, such as flat-screen TVs, whirlpool baths in renovated bathrooms, and views of the rolling parklands or the country-style gardens. Did we mention that a cornucopia of locally made welcome gifts – blackcurrant cake, Burgundian sparkling wine, Cassis, and peche liqueur – awaits guests in all rooms, each of which is named for a local Cistercian monastery? Yes!
However, the standout amenity here is the upscale modern French fare served at the Michelin-starred restaurant 1131. It’s like an Olympic display of French culinary prowess in a soaring cloister space, allowing the French sun to soak in. Continental breakfasts aside, the other amenities here include the excellent service, bikes for rent, and the three cozy lounge areas with log fires, board games, and books.

COMO Le Montrachet

If you want to stay in a lavish five-star property but don’t mind staying close to Beaune rather than in it, why not choose COMO Le Montrachet in Puligny-Montrachet? It’s a mere 15-minute drive south of Beaune and sits right in the heart of France’s fabled wine country. Oh, and it’s a famed COMO property! Did we mention that it’s the very first French COMO property? Yes! The 1842-built structure, which sits on a sleepy square in the French village, is framed by picturesque vineyards.
This stately château is high on the Gallic charm, but its standout feature is that it has wine caves with 17,000 bottles! Despite being new, the signature restaurant has quickly become a favorite of locals and tourists, serving exceptional, nutrition-rich French cuisine. Don’t miss out on the cheese cart — chariot de fromages — a refrigerated, aerated rolling selection of cheeses curated by a local master cheesemonger. With a heavenly seasonal outdoor pool serving poolside snacks and drinks, and in-room massages from a local therapist, Como’s surely got the “joie de vivre” down to a science. Do you love the outdoors? They have guided excursions and a collection of e-biking, hiking, and running routes.
Choose from just 30 rooms and suites across 3 buildings, all of which are decked out in one of three distinct colorways — sage green, deep blue, or soft gray. However, they all have intricate 18th-century Toile de Jouy motifs, slick mod-cons, and large, luxe bathrooms.

Hostellerie de Levernois

No luxury hotel list anywhere in France can be complete without mentioning a Relais & Châteaux property, right? Behold the Hostellerie de Levernois, a luxuriously quiet and serene five-star sitting in a wonderfully restored 18th-century villa just outside the village of Beaune. It’s surrounded by a leafy park sprinkled with 100-year-old magnolia trees in true French wine-country fashion, making it one of the most romantic luxe stays you can find in the French village.
This hotel is all about fine dining, high-end service, and a chic design that blends the old and the new. Gourmands will love the treats on offer at this hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant, which is helmed by award-winning chef Philippe Augé. We not only had the option to leisurely dine in the open-air section, but also at the cozy fireplace bar. When we wanted to unwind, the stone-walled swimming pool was perfect for a lazy swim followed by a languorous lounge. Massages and facials at the Sisley spa only added to the charm. Don’t miss the well-stocked wine cellar, which has more than 8,000 wines! If you prefer the outdoors, the hotel can even organize wine tasting and quad biking adventures.
We loved the elegant and quaintly decked out rooms that had terracotta tiles, antique pieces, oak parquet floors, exposed stone walls, and rustic wood-beamed ceilings. For more space and privacy, go for the lavish suites or villas.

Château de Challanges

Most historical. Sprawled on the banks of the Le Flun River on the fringes of Beaune is the Château de Challanges, a stunning 5-star property sitting in a beautifully restored 18th-century château. We loved everything about this enchanting property, which featured elegantly decked out digs with modern amenities while retaining the estate’s historic and rich bygone charm. Plus, it was the perfect base for exploring the region’s surrounding wine routes and cultural heritage.
We especially loved the history of the property, which was built at the same place where a farm of the Knights Templar stood. The builder was the great traveler Jean-Baptiste Jacotot, who brought to the farm many species of trees from his worldwide expeditions, many of which still stand on the verdant surrounding grounds. The serene gardens, along with the picturesque vineyards nearby, made for the perfect place to unwind and soak in the vibe of the region. Moreover, the amenities made it all the better, especially the heated outdoor pool in the wonderful, verdant setting. There are also massage services, a jacuzzi, and bicycles for rent. When the weather is nice, you can even enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast spread on the terrace, even though there’s no restaurant.
Choose from a wide variety of room categories, all of which are carefully decorated with all sorts of modern comforts. The suites are particularly amazing, as they also have minibars and even private balconies overlooking the parks and gardens. The highlight, though, was the bathrooms with whirlpool tubs.

Hôtel Le Cep & Spa Marie De Bourgogne

One of the best hotels in Beaune, France, is the Hôtel Le Cep & Spa Marie De Bourgogne. It’s all about celebrity treatment at this five-star hotel, which is part of the prestigious Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Nestled in the very heart of Beaune, the hotel radiated old-world charm as it sat across a bunch of historic structures from the 14th to 18th centuries. We loved wandering the little passageways and stone courtyards, soaking in the atmosphere that made for a truly Burgundy experience.
“Staying at Le Cep was a French countryside fantasy come to life!”
WOW Travel
Our room was the most charming we’d seen in a wine region. Every one of the digs is named after a specific Burgundy wine, which bowled us over. Moreover, the décor was a mix of cozy antiques, vintage furnishings, modern touches, and a huge bathroom with a massive separate bathtub large enough for two people to soak in.
That being said, the highlight here is the amenities. The signature restaurant Loiseau des Vignes is a culinary destination and features the very best of Burgundy, including the wine! Afternoons were reserved for the holistic center & spa, Marie de Bourgogne, and its massages, which left us feeling like we were in heaven. Heck, they even had a bar and cigar lounge, cellars, and a wine shop. Don’t miss their amazing vineyard tour on their fleet of FANTIC all-terrain electric mountain bikes!

Best overall. Sitting at the top of the list is Cèdre Beaune, A Beauvallon Hotel & Spa, a luxurious five-star property with a chic design, fine dining, and a fabulous wine collection. Overlooking the ramparts of Beaune, this 40-bedroom hotel emphasizes good food and overall well-being, making it one of the best splurges around the town.
For one, its refined Michelin-starred restaurant, Clos du Cèdre, sits in a 19th-century wine grower’s mansion, complete with an outdoor terrace and original decor. When we wanted to unwind, the lounge bar was perfect, with its piano, games, library, and an imposing fireplace, as well as a cigar cellar underground. Thanks to the concierge, we could experience everything from yoga courses and ballooning trips to wine tours on horseback. However, the highlight was the Nuxe Spa, which was tucked away in a stunning vaulted stone cellar. It not only had chic treatment cabins, but also a hammam, a jacuzzi, and even a herbal tea relaxation area.
The digs were an extension of the laidback luxurious vibe of the property, featuring mod-cons and Nuxe bath products in the sprawling bathrooms. What’s more, they retained the building’s wonderfully traditional grandeur, keeping it modern with luxe touches.
