When people think of Cozumel, they usually picture fancy beachfront resorts, all-inclusive packages, and huge properties where you can find everything in one spot. Those places are nice, but staying at one of the best boutique hotels in Cozumel is a whole different experience. We always choose these smaller hotels when we want to relax and skip the crowds. They offer a more genuine connection to the island, a cozy atmosphere that big resorts just can’t provide, and a fun, lively vibe that makes every visit special. If you’re looking for a more exciting way to enjoy the island, these boutique hotels are the coolest way to do it.

Albatros by Bedsfriends
11
Call your “beds” friends, pack your bag, and head to Albatros by Bedsfriends for the perfect Cozumel escape. Set just outside the main town, this boutique hotel gave us the quiet beachfront escape we badly wanted. Thanks to its location, we were able to have peaceful mornings by the water. When it was time to put on our explorer hats, we just needed to rent a bike from the hotel.
We spent two nights in the suite, and it was one of the best suites on the island. It was cool, airy, and felt like the ones you usually see in magazines. When we arrived in our room, we were welcomed with fresh-cut oranges and watermelons. Additionally, we also had our own balcony. We especially liked the room names, each inspired by people who helped shape the hotel’s vision.
What else can you expect? Well, there’s an outdoor pool, a lush garden, and a restaurant. Technically, you don’t need to leave the property that often, as everything you need is probably there. It even boasts a bar for when you need a drink before going to bed. If you’re a young traveler who wants to have fun, we think this place suits you.

The Explorean Cozumel
10
Best Activities. True to its name, The Explorean Cozumel is one of the best options for travelers who want a more adventurous side of Cozumel. We loved that every day came with the chance to do something memorable. Throughout our stay, we had fun snorkeling in the water, kayaking, horseback riding, and hopping into a dune buggy. Not a day went by without something exciting.
At the same time, the resort never compromised on comfort. Our Casita King was bright, big, and comfy. The bathroom was especially lovely, thanks to its marble furniture, wood accents, and rainfall shower. The best part? After a good night’s sleep, we had fresh bread, coffee, and juice delivered to our room.
This boutique hotel also boasts a small but beautiful pool. As long as it’s not too hot or raining, we highly recommend spending your spare time there. Meanwhile, meals at Lool Kan were always enjoyable. Even better, our meals were already included in the all-inclusive rate.

Hotel Villas Las Anclas

Up next is Hotel Villas Las Anclas, tucked away on a quieter stretch of Fifth Avenue. Staying here, we were only a short walk away from the ferry terminal, so getting around was never a headache for us. Not to mention, the area felt very safe, and we were surrounded by great local restaurants, dive shops, and little stores to browse.
Here, you’ll find a handful of villas. It was never crowded while we were there. Our villa was spread over two levels, and it came with a kitchenette downstairs and a cozy bedroom upstairs. We were provided with the essentials, too, like a fridge, coffeemaker, and complimentary bottled water.
When it was time to unwind, we headed to the outdoor swimming pool, which had a waterfall. If you don’t swim, you can relax on one of the lounge chairs. Even though the hotel doesn’t have a restaurant or food service, we honestly didn’t mind because everything was nearby. Plus, there was coffee in the lobby, which was basically the only thing we needed!

Amaranto Bed and Breakfast
8
Another great addition to our list of the best boutique hotels in Cozumel is Amaranto Bed and Breakfast. This property is super charming, thanks to its unique, oval-shaped bungalows. However, what stood out most to us was how comfortable everything was. We booked the Superior Bungalow, and it was immaculately clean, complete with all the essentials we needed. We’re talking about a kitchenette, private bathroom, and safe.
One of the best parts of staying here was the breakfast. We spent three nights, and it was consistently fresh and filling. No more hungry mornings! The hosts were also a big reason why our stay was so smooth. They were friendly, helpful, and knew the island well, so their recommendations made it easier for us to plan our days and find places that suited our itinerary.
What about the location? It’s close enough to the ferry terminal and main parts of town, but still quiet enough to feel peaceful at night. We liked that we could quickly get to the waterfront without staying in a busy area. If you want somewhere comfortable, well-located, and welcoming, this is a great choice.

Villas El Encanto Cozumel

Set in Corpus Cristi, it’s easy to spot Villas El Encanto Cozumel becasue of the colorful mural outside that gives away its location. When we arrived, we even saw a group of travelers taking pictures in front of the mural. Once we stepped through the gates, though, it opened up into a surprisingly spacious boutique hotel with lush gardens and a lovely swimming pool.
The grounds were private and beautifully maintained. After talking with the staff, they even told us that the hotel is often booked as a small wedding venue, and we could see why. It was so intimate and sweet. While we were there, we also found a little shop near reception with thoughtfully curated souvenirs.
Our suite, though, was the highlight of our stay. It had a relaxed Caribbean feel, with soaring vaulted ceilings and a stylish layout. We had a separate living and kitchen area, plus a comfortable bedroom and en suite. We were planning to cook a few proper meals to balance out all the eating out, and the kitchen had quite literally everything we needed. The hotel even provided us with a huge 20L water container to reduce plastic waste.

Hotel Villas Deja Blue & Restaurant

Most Sustainable. There aren’t many hotels that are doing it like Hotel Villas Deja Blue & Restaurant, and we think it deserves more spotlight. This hotel is located in the quieter Corpus Christi neighborhood. It felt peaceful at night, but we were still only a short walk from downtown, restaurants, and the ocean. We also loved having grocery stores and a gym nearby. We rented a car, so the easy street parking was a big plus.
There’s a great variety of rooms available, but we chose the King Room. It wasn’t too big for us, and the bed was to die for. The bathroom was spacious with a large shower, and we even had a small kitchen with complete appliances. Additionally, we also appreciated having a proper living area with comfortable seating.
The hotel was very well maintained, and the staff was helpful whenever we needed anything. Housekeeping was done well, too. We also really liked having Silvia’s restaurant next door. The breakfasts were fresh and consistently good, so make sure to give them a try. It was also a bonus knowing the hotel supports more sustainable travel through its early use of solar power.

Xiknal Cozumel

If you’re intrigued by Cozumel’s history but don’t want to sacrifice comfort, Xiknal Cozumel is the perfect boutique hotel for you. This hotel is set inside a beautifully restored colonial-style island building, and we could immediately tell it was preserved thoughtfully. Unlike many other “historic” hotels on the island, this one felt authentic. Think rock-work walls and traditional Mexican tile floors.
Our room was comfortable, but the shared spaces made it hard for us to stay still! There’s a beautiful garden, a small pool for cooling off, and an outdoor kitchen so we can whip up a meal and have breakfast under the sun. It was the simple moments that we enjoyed the most.
Now, let’s talk about the location. Even though the hotel sits on a quiet street in downtown Cozumel, we were still just a short walk from shops, grocery stores, and some fantastic local restaurants. We even found a taco spot we kept going back to. It’s a charming boutique hotel that manages to balance convenience and character perfectly.

Hacienda San Miguel Hotel & Suites

Boutique hotels are fun and full of character, and Hacienda San Miguel Hotel & Suites completely understands that. From the wooden furnishings to the charming archways and traditional design details, the whole place oozes the charm of an old Mexican hacienda. We took tons of pictures of the pink walls, hand-painted tiles, and peaceful courtyard. Make sure your camera has enough storage!
Beyond the charm, we were also in love with the convenient location. This hotel is only a short stroll away from the beach. On top of that, there are plenty of restaurants and local shops sprinkled around it. We had a lot of fun exploring the surrounding area on foot. Better yet, it was clean and safe. We barely needed transportation as everything was so accessible.
Our Studio was simple yet comfortable. We had plenty of space to settle in and a nice little balcony where we could enjoy the fresh air. However, if you need a more spacious option, you can consider the two-bed Studio or the Junior Studio Suite. No matter what you choose, though, you’ll have a view of the garden.

Casita de Maya Boutique Hotel
3
Casita de Maya has to be one of the most charming boutique hotels in Cozumel. The bright orange adobe exterior instantly stole our attention, and we loved the classic Mexican casita look. After dropping our bags, we explored the hotel and noticed there were many shared spaces, and they were perfectly designed for lounging and recharging.
The large swimming pool area was our go-to spot to beat the heat, and we liked having a shared kitchen, too. Moreover, the room options here are so flexible, depending on what kind of trip you’re having. Some of them open directly onto the pool, while the upper-floor rooms offer better views across the island.
Location-wise, it’s located right by the airport. Yes, you read that right! This makes it an amazing option if you’re arriving late at night or leaving super early in the morning. And while it’s not the most central hotel on the island, you can still explore many spots by renting a car or scooter.

Hotel B Unique

Best for Ocean Swimming. There are tons of ways to enjoy Cozumel, but if swimming is your thing, you’ll want to stay at Hotel B Unique. By staying here, it’s incredibly easy to spend hours by the ocean. Being a waterfront property, it allowed us to swim in the sea whenever we wanted to. You can also lounge by the pools or simply soak in the view. And since it’s set in the quieter area of the North Hotel Zone, you can truly relax.
As if that’s not enough, every room here faces the water. We were able to wake up to the ocean every morning, which was a luxury in itself for us. When you’re ready to be productive, feel free to join a yoga class. Or, if you need another round of relaxation, book a spa treatment. During our stay, we were lucky as there was live music, which made our evening even more special and fun.
For accommodation, we booked the Jr. Suite Grand. It’s one of the pricier options, but it was worth every penny. First of all, our bed directly faces the sea. That alone is already a huge perk. Additionally, we also had a private balcony with a cozy seating area. Best of all, we had a bathtub in our suite along with all the toiletries we needed. All in all, this place is so chill, and its vibe actually reminded us of some of the best yoga retreats in Tulum.
“We couldn’t thank Hotel B Unique enough. Waking up to the ocean every morning made us realize we didn’t need to be anywhere else.”

Flamingo Hotel
1
Best Downtown Boutique. Flamingo Hotel checked all of our right boxes effortlessly. First of all, let’s talk about its location. Being right in downtown Cozumel, we were within a short walk from all the great local restaurants and the island’s best dive spots. But what makes it even more special is the fact that it’s one of the only downtown hotels with free Wi-Fi and on-site dive services.
Speaking of which, we really enjoyed our diving experience. Flamingo’s long-standing partnership with Aquatic Sports Dive Shop made everything easy. We witnessed some of the most colorful mazes of coral and saw countless tropical fish. If diving is a big part of your trip, this hotel will help you make the most of the island.
We spent our nights in the Junior Suite, and we highly recommend it. The bed was spacious and comfortable, and the room stayed quiet all night. If you’re not an early sleeper, consider having a drink or two at the on-site bar. Or, if you want to relax after your dive, you can take a dip in the pool on the sundeck.

Where to Stay in Cozumel
If you’re looking for the best boutique hotels, there are three main areas in Cozumel you should consider. The first one is downtown Cozumel. This is one of the most popular areas on the island. It’s walkable, full of local restaurants, and while it’s lively, it’s never too crowded. While you won’t find big beaches, downtown offers you culture, convenience, and the most authentic experience.
Just a short ride from downtown, the North Hotel Zone is much quieter and more relaxed. Here, you’ll find smaller, charming stays with ocean views and a more laid-back atmosphere. It’s great if you want calm mornings by the water, but still easy access to town when you feel like going out.
As you can guess, our next recommendation is the South Hotel Zone. This is the classic coastal stretch. It’s known for its super clear water, easy beach access, and dive-friendly resorts. While the boutique hotels here tend to feel resort-ish, they’re still more intimate compared to all-inclusives. If your trip revolves around the ocean and snorkeling, this is the place to be.
Is it better to stay in Cozumel or Playa del Carmen?
It depends. If you prefer somewhere quieter and with an island vibe, choose Cozumel. However, if you enjoy nightlife more and have easier access to day trips around the Riviera Maya, then Playa del Carmen is the better choice.
What’s so special about Cozumel?
Cozumel is special for its crystal-clear Caribbean waters and some of the best coral reef diving in the world.
What is the best thing to buy in Cozumel?
There’s no single “best” thing to buy in Cozumel. However, we do recommend handmade Mexican crafts like pottery and embroidered textiles.
