That’s not all, though. The dive masters and boat captains were experts. Despite that, they were so friendly and made the whole process feel so safe and well-organized. Not to mention, you can find tons of diving options there, ranging from scheduled boat trips to excursions to the cenotes. What we appreciated the most, though, was the unlimited shore diving access.

Now, we also have to praise the resort’s beach location. It put us right near Chankanaab National Park as well as the area’s main water parks. Our diving experience was nothing short of fantastic. The water was consistently clear, giving us great visibility. We were also able to see many different fish species. In fact, there are hundreds you can find. What’s more, the resort caters to all experience levels.

Meanwhile, the on-site dive center is well-equipped with the specific amenities we looked for as divers. We took advantage not only of the freshwater showers but also of the gear-washing facilities. We also had storage lockers, so we didn’t have to haul wet equipment back to our room.

Coral Princess Hotel & Dive Resort

The Coral Princess Hotel & Dive Resort is just as beautiful as the name. And as you can guess, this resort is built with divers in mind. For us, the biggest highlights were the private sea access and the on-site Pepe Scuba Dive Shop. Diving just felt so easy here. Not to mention, the shop is fully equipped with fast boats, rentals, PADI courses, and everything else you can imagine.

Moreover, we think this resort is great for groups. Why? In addition to specialized dive facilities, it also boasts many other activities. While some of us were diving, there were options for Jeep tours, kitesurfing, and cultural trips that kept everyone else busy. Whether you’re a diver or a non-diver, you’ll have fun nonetheless.

That’s not all, though. This resort also features a gorgeous infinity-edge pool as well as an international restaurant and a sports bar. For evening entertainment, we highly recommend the K8 Karaoke Bar. Imagine a lively, sports-themed bar where you can sing your heart out with no one judging!

Kinta Kan Hotel Cozumel

Best Budget. Kinta Kan Hotel Conzumel is a charming little boutique hotel. It’s a great option for divers who want to avoid the crowds of a larger resort. One of the standouts here was the service. Every staff member understands the needs of divers. While we were there, they were more than happy to help us with anything, from booking excursions to arranging specific classes.

For those looking to improve their skills, the hotel is only two blocks from the Cozumel Dive School. You can get your PADI courses and find some of the best instructors in Mexico. Based on what the staff told us, it’s a great place for beginners.

Now, being a boutique resort, Kinta Kan only has 12 rooms. Lucky for you, every room is comfortable and comes with a private terrace and reliable air-conditioning. When we weren’t diving or exploring, we loved relaxing in the garden or by the pool. It was incredibly peaceful.

Grand Park Royal Cozumel

Best Instructors. For a memorable diving session, consider spending your nights at the Grand Park Royal Cozumel. The water just offshore is incredibly clear, giving guests easy access to the world-class reefs and marine life. No wonder divers from around the world are drawn here. We loved having such high-quality dive sites only steps away from our room.

What we loved the most, though, was the on-site dive shop. The instructors there were so knowledgeable. They were kind, professional, and prioritized the safety of the group. They even customized our dives based on each of our skills and what we wanted to find. Thanks to them, we managed to spot a seahorse!

On land, the resort is connected to the Royal Village Shopping Center. We’re just as big shoppers as we are divers, so we made sure to visit the shopping center. And since we were guests, we were able to enjoy a special discount from many stores. All we had to do was just show our guest wristbands.

El Cid La Ceiba Beach

El Cid La Ceiba Beach is easily one of our favorite dive resorts in Cozumel. With the Babieca Dive Center located on-site, our daily excursions were super efficient. On top of that, the hotel staff understands that not everyone is a pro diver. They let guests go diving in different areas based on their skill levels. Even kids can join the fun, too.

This beachfront hotel isn’t all about diving, though. The hammocks positioned over the water are great, and the swim-up bar near the hot tub became our go-to spot for drinks. Moreover, the rooms are well-appointed and serve as a great home base. They’re exactly what divers need for a comfortable stay after activities.

For foodies, there are plenty of dining options, and they don’t disappoint. We mostly ate international fare at La Chopa, but Trattoria Da Salvatore was our favorite for a more casual dinner. The pizza was so good! For travelers who want to balance diving and relaxation, this is a great choice.

Iberostar Waves Cozumel

Best Coral Reef. Looking for somewhere a bit more secluded? We highly recommend staying at Iberostar Waves Cozumel, which is located on the quieter southern end of the island. One of the highlights of our stay was being just a short walk away from the Caribbean Sea. We also loved the themed restaurants and the international buffet on-site. We were spoiled!

However, none of those compares to the resort’s proximity to the second-biggest coral reef on Earth, the Great Mayan Reef. Better yet, the resort has an on-site dive center: Dressel Divers. In fact, it’s one of the best dive centers in all of Cozumel! Thanks to this convenience, we could gear up and hop on a boat without wasting much time. The staff there was very kind, too.

The diving experience itself was world-class. Our group was a mix of experience levels, and every single one of us had a blast. Best of all, the coral reef was breathtaking. We were completely in awe. Additionally, we were also impressed by the instructors, who knew these reefs inside and out. You can even ask them to teach you if you want to get your PADI certification. What’s not to love?

No matter where you go, you can’t go wrong with The Westin. And when in Mexico, you should check out The Westin Cozumel. This stunning hotel is near the Yucatan Peninsula’s top-tier dive sites, making it an ideal choice for divers. During our stay, we spent countless hours exploring the nearby coral walls and swim-throughs. Make sure to bring your waterproof camera, as the underwater scenery was gorgeous. We even encountered some eagle rays and barracuda!

Not only that, the resort’s amenities are perfect for unwinding after a dive. We particularly loved our time at the on-site spa. The masseurs’ hands were magical. For food, there are two restaurants on the property, so we didn’t have to go far for food. And in the evenings, we were at the swim-up bar almost all the time.

Traveling with your kids? No problem! This resort also boasts a playground, which is well-maintained and safe for kids. When it comes to location, Allegro Cozumel is easily one of the best. This dive resort is located on San Francisco Beach and close to the Palancar Reef. And since it sits right within the Cozumel National Marine Park, anyone can spend their time underwater for as long as they want.

If you’re a pro or want to dive multiple times a day, this is the place to be. Allegro offers up to four dives a day, including night dives. We found the 8 AM and 1 PM slots the most convenient ones because the boats usually stay out for two tanks at a time, so we didn’t have to waste time heading back to the dock between dives.

Aside from that, the resort also has five swimming pools, several restaurants, and a fun water park. There are plenty of entertainment options to keep guests active throughout their stay. Add to that the all-inclusive setup, and it easily stands out as a top-tier dive resort.

Occidental Cozumel

Best for Families. While many dive resorts Cozumel has to offer are busy, the Occidental Cozumel is a great alternative for travelers seeking tranquility. This resort is just a short stroll down the beach, and when we first arrived, we instantly fell in love with the hacienda-style buildings. What’s more, all of the 25 rooms are big, which is great for families with older kids.

What about the diving facility? Here, you’ll find a PADI-certified, beachfront dive center and a private dock, so boat departures are always easy. Personally, we loved how we could save tons of time by being able to go straight from the resort ot the reefs for guided dives. Once we were done diving, we didn’t have to stress about dining as Occidental has two main buffets and three specialty restaurants. And if your entire family is too tired, you can take advantage of the room service at no extra cost. However, if your kids still have tons of fuel in the tank, you can send them to the on-site supervised Kids’ Club.

Most Convenient. We love every single resort we include on this list, but Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa has a special place in our hearts. This is arguably the best resort for a dive-focused trip. As soon as we checked in, we headed straight to the house reef. The resort offers its guests unlimited shore diving, which is a huge plus. It was a great way for us to test our gear and get comfortable in the water before having a full boat schedule the next morning.

That said, our boat diving experience was amazing, too. We were picked up directly from the private dock, and we reached the main Cozumel dive sites in just a few minutes. On top of that, the staff members were so kind and helpful. We loved how they always offered practical tips for us without us asking first.

As a 5-star hotel, Presidente InterContinental has plenty to offer beyond the diving. When we weren’t underwater, we loved chilling in the infinity pool and making use of the hot tub. The resort also provides free bicycles for exploring the area, along with yoga classes and tennis courts.

Where to Stay in Cozumel

For divers, there are three major areas in Cozumel to consider. The first one is the South Hotel Zone. This is our top recommendation if diving is your main priority. It’s closest to some of the most famous reef sites like Palancar, Colombia, and Santa Rosa. This means boat rides tend to be shorter, and you can spend more time diving. What’s more, many resorts here have dive shops. It’s definitely a great area for serious divers who also love easy beach access.

Aside from that, you can consider staying in downtown Cozumel. Here, you’ll have easy access to countless dive shops, restaurants, shops, cafes, and the ferry. Even better, most dive operators here are willing to pick you up. Not to mention, the area is highly walkable. We think it’s the best option for first-time visitors who prioritize budget and walkability.

For couples or travelers seeking a bit of tranquility, we recommend the North Hotel Zone. It’s quieter than downtown and home to some upscale oceanfront resorts. It’s still close enough to dive operators and town, but it feels more relaxed. It’s a nice choice if you want comfort without being too far from everything.
